<vote /> Three of the suspects in the fake roadblock $56 000 heist, Dickson Morosi, Kundai Makwarimba and Fortune Sibanda, were yesterday denied bail by magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe who ruled that there was overwhelming evidence against them.

They are now facing robbery charges after the State successfully applied to have the charge altered from theft. The court heard that four of the six policemen who reportedly connived with five civilians and mounted a fake roadblock in Belvedere, Harare, where they robbed an Indian businessman over $56 000 have not been reporting for duty after their colleagues were arrested in connection with the case.

In denying them bail, provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe said the suspects Dickson Morosi (32), Kundai Makwarimba (35) and Fortune Sibanda (29) were a flight risk and might interfere with State witnesses. He further said their alleged accomplices were still on the run and might jeopardise the investigations on the matter.

According to the State, on July 26 at around 2pm, Morosi, Makwarimba, Sibanda and seven other suspects, who are still at large, planned to rob Junaid Pervaiz, who operates a tissue-manufacturing business. (read more here)
