<vote /> Following the demonstrations at Beitbridge border post, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority posted on their Facebook page, steps how a returning resident can import a vehicle and other goods duty free. Even those that are part of the import ban list. Below are the steps one can take:

A returning resident can import one motor vehicle and other goods for personal use under the immigrants rebate or returning resident allowance. The allowance can be granted to a Zimbabwean who has been outside Zimbabwe for a period of two years who is above 16 years of age. The allowance is also granted to an individual who is coming into Zimbabwe to take up permanent residence.

The motor vehicle must be for personal use and should have a gross vehicle mass of not more than five tonnes. One must prove that he/she owned the goods before time of arrival.

One is also required to attend an interview at the Customs Port through which the goods are being imported and will be required to complete a questionnaire. The following documents should be submitted.

1.Proof of such absence from Zimbabwe.

2.A certificate stating that goods were owned by him/her at the time of his arrival and at their time of importation

3.In the case of a motor vehicle, a certificate stating that he/she has not imported a vehicle under returning resident’s rebate during the previous four years

4.A certificate that the goods are intended for one’s use in Zimbabwe and will not be used for trade or commercial purposes

5.A written undertaking that the goods will not be sold or disposed of in any manner and that he/she shall not leave Zimbabwe for a period of more than six months within 24 months of arrival

6.Satisfactory evidence relating to the acquisition, ownership or purchase of the goods as may be required by the ZIMRA Commissioner General
