The Riot Police had to break up a growing crowd in the Harare City centre today, after vendors stage a demonstration at the Town House. The vendors demo was crushed with a number of vendors arrested. As riot police drove away with the arrested demonstrators a growing crowd of people demanding the release of those arrested was dispersed using tear gas.

The protest was led by National Vendors Union of Zimbabwe chairperson, Sten Zvorwadza, who was also arrested with the others. Zvorwadza has been at the forefront of several demonstrations in the past weeks including the protest against Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko's two year stay at Rainbow Towers hotel in Harare.
