News:War Veterans openly declare support for Mnangagwa presidency. Defy Mugabe's no-succession-talk policy

The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA) has openly called for its members to support Emmerson Mnangagwa to succeed President Robert Mugabe as president.

NewsDay reported today that ZNLWA meeting resolutions made available to it made it clear that the War Vets are openly putting their weight behind Mnangagwa to take over leadership of the party. Says part of the resolutions:

(Victor Matemadanda) advised every member to support VP Mnangagwa to take over after His Excellency's tenure is over, or to rally behind VP Mnangagwa if His Excellency is to die as he is the only suitable candidate

This is a clear defiant move as being suspected of having ambitions to succeed the president in the Zanu-PF is generally considered treasonous. Former senoir members like Joice Mujuru were expelled from the party for this reason.
