Nyasha Madzima is a Zimbabwean social and technological entrepreneur, web developer and cryptocurrency enthusiast. He is the Founder and CEO of Blacktoe Productions in Zimbabwe and Executive Director of Blacktoe Africa headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. Madzima is the founder of Zimbabwe's first Online Video Platform, Blacktoe TV and a pan African sports apparel brand Blacktoe TV through his company, Blacktoe Africa. A youthful and futuristic social arts promoter, Madzima rose on the scene when he became the youngest ever promoter of an International concert when, at the age of 23, he brought in the King of Kwaito Arthur Mafokate for a concert at the Glamis Arena for culture week celebrations. [1]. Madzima decided to promote then unknown rising sensations Ngoni Kambarami, Decibel, Nesto, Willom Tight, Major Players, Roy and Royce, Mafriq, Leonard Mapfumo and MC Chita, who had started a genre aptly named "urban grooves".[2]

2003 Minister of Broadcasting and Information Jonathan Moyo had introduced a policy of 75% local content on radio at a time when foreign content was dominant on the airways [3] and the youthful Madzima saw this as an opportunity to market local artists. He is known for organising events that drew crowds. Together with friends, Madzima would hire out big houses and erect stages where local acts would perform. He roped in acclaimed South African based Zimbabwean Dj/producer Oskido as the headline act and advisor to local artists with a view to getting their music out on pan African markets. [4]

Madzima is also principal trader at Bitcoin Community Zimbabwe.

Background

Madzima was born on 17 March 1980 at the Harare Hospital in Harare and was raised by a single mother and grandmother. He has been married to his wife Mutsa since 2004 and they have 3 girls. He studied for Bsc in Information & Communication Technology at the Perth Insitute of Business and Technology located at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia in the early 2000s. Madzima has a diploma in French Studies which he acquired at the Alliance Francais in Harare.

Early Life

He started his career when he dropped out of High School at the age of 18 to pursue his passion in music. Having gone to a show at St Gerards Hall he saw hip hop greats Peace of Ebony, Click Clan, Trix and Games, Kataklizm and Metaphysics perform and he decided to take up rapping. He became synomymous at school events for rapping with peers in his generation, notably MC Chita and Chucknosis, that Llyod "Papa Lodza" Jiro[5] of Baddbwoy Sound signed him to his record label. That would not last as he relocated to the United Kingdom and the Australia to further his education.

Blacktoe

Having ventured into arts, event and music management, Madzima focused on digital media. With mobile penetration growing in Zimbabwe and a rising middle class he changed the name of his company from Blacktoe Entertainment to Blacktoe Productions. He wanted to tap into a new market and positioned himself. In 2012 he launched Blacktoe Sport; a pan african sports brand with distribution in Southern Africa. And then in 2013 he launched Blacktoe TV, a pan african video on demand channel based in Zimbabwe. [6] Zambian sensation and Big Brother Africa 8 runner up Cleo Ice Queen was the headline act and host. That same year Madzima was awarded with the Top Ten Outstanding Young Persons Zimbabwe award by the JCI [7], a membership-based non-profit organisation of young active citizens. Previous award winners include Strive Masiyiwa, Nigel Chanakira and Tawanda Mutyebere.

When DSTV launched Zambezi Magic he poised his company in line to supply content. The company had ventured into film production.
