  • 20 February 1898: Sekuru Kaguvi, Mbuya Nehanda, Zindoga, Hwata and Gutsa are arraigned before the High Court of Matabeleland that sat in Salisbury wrongly accused of murdering a brutal white native commissioner, Henry Hawkins Pollard of the British South Africa Company (BSAC) who lived near Mazowe and terrorised people in the district.
  • 20 February 1959: 17 men perish when the platform they were on collapses, sending them falling 61m down a shaft at the Kariba Dam.
