Solomon Mujuru is one of the country's prolific heroes of the liberation struggle. Mujuru was an army general who served in the Zimbabwe African Liberation Army during the Second Chimurenga and in the Zimbabwe National Army after independence.
In 1971, Mujuru joined ZANU-PF's military wing ZANLA and it was during this period that Mujuru rose to prominence under the moniker Rex Nhongo. After independence he served as an army General until his retirement in 1995.
Mujuru's body was discovered on August 16, 2011 at his farm house at Ruzawi estate in Beatrice about 100 km from Harare. The house had been burnt down by a fire.
