  • Matangira joined the party in 1974 at the formation of the people s' movement in Bulawayo.
  • Vice Provincial Youth Organizing Secretary to 1976.
  • 1977 supported the liberation struggle and in 1979 worked with Matebeleland North Province Youth Wing.
  • In 1981 was transferred to Bindura and in 2008 elected DCC chairman.
  • In July 2018 was elected Member of Parliament of Bindura South after he had the highest number of votes in that constituency.
