Russell Madamombe is a popular footballer who plays for ZPC Kariba Football Club. Madamombe plays in midfield and is well known for his left foot and dribbling skills. He is also one of the very few players in the premier league who can cut through defences and score spectacular goals.

Russel was born on March 1, 1991. He is married to former Mighty Warriors captain and goalkeeper, Onai Chingawo.[1]

Football career

Madamombe's professional footballing career started at Momomotapa United where he made a name for himself as a result of his skillful type of play. After having played for Monomotapa for about two seasons, Madamombe moved to the Harare giants where he did not take long to settle in. Madamombe's move to the Glamour boys was facilitated by Pasuwa following the departure oof Denver Mukamba in 2012[2] He is also one of the players at Dynamos who has significantly contributed to Dembare's decade long domination of their city rivals Caps United Football Club scoring some decisive goals in the process.[3] At times Madamombe is used as a super sub by Pasuwa and he has rarely disappointed.

In the aforementioned City derby between Makepe kepe and Dembare, the talented winger scored the winner for Dembare within two minutes of coming on.[3] Madamombe is a utility player who can play comfortably in any position in the midfield. The player was also used on several occasions by former Dynamos gaffer Callisto Pasuwa as a makeshift right back. Due to his natural attacking style of play, Madamombe still causes a lot of problems for defenders in the Premier League regardless of the defensive position that he is forced to occupy at times. The player has been an integral of the Dembare machine, on the decisive final matchday of the 2014 soccer season, he scored one of the two goals that propelled the glamour boys to their historic fourth successive season. During the 2013 season, Madamombe proved to be a reliable player as his introduction was always a game changing move. Playing in his more traditional role as an attacking midfielder on the left flank, he is also known for his great crosses and defence splitting moves.[4] Following disagreements with the Dembare executive on siigning on fees and salary increments, Madamombe left the glamour boys and went on to join fellow premiership side, ZPC Kariba during the 2015 soccer season.



Accolades

Madamombe has three winners medals of the Zimbabwe premier soccer league from the 2012 to the 2014 soccer season of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. The players has also won other major domestic trophies among them, the Bob @ 89, Bob @ 90, TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup, Mbada diamonds Cup among others.
