Trade Union
A Trade Union is a non-profit membership-based organisation set up to advance and fight for the rights of workers.
The main functions of trade unions:
- They negotiate agreements with employers on pay and conditions
- They form part of collective bargaining at the employer level of even at sector level.
- They help workers protest against unfair and ill-treatment by employers
- They usually accompany workers to disciplinary and grievance meetings with employers
- They help their members with legal advice
- They voice out and contribute on issues concerning workers in the national policy (e.g. constitution, budgets, laws). This usually brings them into clash with political leaders in the government of the day.
