United Bulawayo Hospitals is a combination of the Mpilo Hospital and Central Hospital. The United Bulawayo Hospitals is a government tertiary hospital and subsidised by the Zimbabwean government. It is located in the Eastern side of the second largest city in Zimbabwe, in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. United Bulawayo Hospital is one of the six central hospitals in Zimbabwe, the other hospitals are Mpilo Central Hospital, Ingutsheni Hospital, Harare Hospital, Chitungwiza, and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals

Background

The United Bulawayo Hospitals was opened in 1937 at Khumalo as an extension of the Old Memorial Hospital. The United Bulawayo Hospital is the second referral centres in the Southern Region of Zimbabwe. It has the capacity of 600 beds.

Currently, we are focusing on re-equipping the hospital, rehabilitation of infrastructure and continuous improvement in patient care.

Hospital Facilities

The Hospitals offers cancer screening as well as HIV/AIDS tests at the maternity wards. The following Provinces are attended at United Bulawayo Hospital, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Matabeleland North Province, Matabeleland South Province, Masvingo Province and Midlands Province.

Acreditation

The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa accredited the hospital for training in general surgery, urology, ENT and orthopaedic surgery.

Events

In April 2023, Dr Kelvin Tendai Kaseke, died. He was a senior surgeon at United Bulawayo Hospitals. and held one of the highest offices in the history of Zimbabwe’s medical history. He died at Avenues Clinic in Harare. He developed an emergency while he was there, where he was bleeding in the head. He also suffering from hypertension, which likely contributed to his condition.
