Early Life

Vardolysis liked music at an early age,he listened to Sungura ,Reggae and Hip Hop. The latter with which he fell in love with. He could dub onto a cassette music playing on Power FM, a local radio station that prioritised urban local content.[1]Because it was pretty much difficult to get music in the hood by then

He is the first born in a family of five on his paternal side and third on his maternal side. After his family split,he was brought up by his grandmother at his Mufudziwakanaka rural home, Mashonaland East province and upon completion of Grade 7, he came back to Glen View. He did his secondary education at Glen View 2 High School and then proceeded to St Peter's Kubatana High School where he completed his A Level. Being a bright student, he was brought out of his final mathematics exam pertaining to non payment of school fees, only to be re-admitted with 45 minutes remaining for the exam to end. The impact was so adverse that he completely lost confidence in passing the entire exam and contributed to lower grades.[2] However, in 2015 he enrolled with Harare Institute of Technology but dropped out with lack of funding. He was studying towards a B Tech Degree in I. T.

Music career

Confessions - 2014

Soon after completion of his A level exams, he was discovered musically by Churchboy and the latter gave him a CD full of international instrumentals. He began writing lyrics to the beats and went back to recite before Churchboy and he immediately fell in love with his lyrical content and rapping skills. The duo approached producer Jonso in Glen Norah and recorded the first track called Confessions in 2014. They proceeded to make the remix of the track at Black Copy Records with producer Young Mic featuring a guest verse. They also shot a video of the track within the same year.

Influences, Lyrics & Style

He sites music in general as his influence, irrespective of a particular genre, but hip hop is his major interest. He remembers the song by T.I, "No Matter What" as the song that gave him a pushing factor to write music as a way to express and speak his mind.

"You know, I tend to be weak in verbal exchanges and I'm more like an introvert, so I can't immediately put out what's on mind in general. I like to think things through before I react or act. Hence, the music represents my voice and my mind just like T.I points in No Matter What." says Vardolysis

The music and life of 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, Bob Marley,Lucky Dube and Jay Z are major influences. Locally, he sites Jnr Brown,Stunner, Alick Macheso,Oliver Mtukudzi,Shingisai Suluma, Churchboy, Mudiwa Hood, Winky D and Major Playaz as major influence.

His lyrics are inspired by the gospel, research and life experiences. The ghetto scene inspires him that direct his lyrics to social commentary.

He follows through a four line - same rhyme style where four rhyming words are used to make four lines/bars that make a stanza. His verse may contain three to four stanzas, with different rhymes which translate to twelve to sixteen lines. One line may contain two rhymes but the four line stanza rhyme the same. He involve metaphors, word play and similes to make punch lines.
