The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of some of the 22 people who lost their lives in a road accident on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road on November 14, 2023. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, mentioned that seven of the victims still need to be identified by their relatives. <h3>UPDATE ON FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AT THE 27-KILOMETRE PEG ALONG BULAWAYO-BEITBRIDGE ROAD</h3>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of 15 of the 22 victims who were killed in a road traffic accident which occurred on 14th November 2023 at the 27 Kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road when a Toyota Quantum motor vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board.
The 15 victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:-
• Brian Phiri (44), a male adult of Ndiweni Village, Kezi 
• Sadam Maenzane (31), a male adult Old Magwegwe, Bulawayo 
• Kifi Sphandla (48), a male adult of Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo 
• Tobias Ncube (36), a male adult of Mbundane, Bulawayo 
• Mehluli Sibanda (39), a male adult of Mpopoma, Bulawayo 
• Gilbert Nyoni (45), a male adult of Entumbani, Bulawayo 
• Ntuntuko Mpofu (33), a male adult of Emganwini, Bulawayo 
• Kylene Ndlovu (2 years), an infant of Njube, Bulawayo 
•Vongai Tshuma (36), a female adult of Njube, Bulawayo 
Jennifer Ndlovu (42), a female adult of New Mangwegwe, Bulawayo 
• Sibonginkosi Ndlovu (42), of K West, Summerton , Bulawayo

Police Names 15 Victims Of The Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road Accident

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has instructed all government departments to prioritise road safety following a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/11/15/22-bodies-of-toyota-quantum-accident-victims-stashed-in-back-of-truck-no-body-bags/">fatal accident</a> on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway that resulted in the death of 22 people. In a message of condolences to the victims’ families, the president urged government officials to work tirelessly and use all legal means available to prevent such tragedies from happening again. The death of 22 Zimbabweans in a head-on collision along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway on Tuesday night left me horrified and heartbroken. What adds to the horror is that this accident comes barely days after two separate similar ones in which nine innocent lives also perished. Zimbabwe does not deserve this at all, let alone such a bloody beginning to this year’s festive season. Everything has to be done to arrest this needless loss of life at a time when we all should be celebrating closure to yet another peaceful year. I thus appeal to all motorists to exercise maximum caution on our roads, both for their sake and for the safety of fellow road users who do not deserve a violent end such as we have just witnessed. I direct all arms of Government seized with the responsibility of ensuring safety on our roads to work around the clock, and to use all means and powers lawfully available to them to reduce if not put an end to such carnage. No effort should be spared towards ensuring compliance with our traffic rules, in order to serf any more such accidents which invariably leave scores dead and injured. 
Government will weigh in by according victims of this horrendous crash State-assisted burial.
As I express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to families and relatives who have lost their loved ones in this deadly crash, my heart goes out to all those injured and still hospitalized, Praying that theirs will be a speedy recovery. President Mnangagwa Instructs Govt To Prioritise Road Safety As 22 Perish In An Accident

Police in Matabeleland North are investigating a tragic incident where a tout fell off a moving bus and died instantly. The victim, Trust Moyo, aged 35, from Inyathi in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bubi/">Bubi</a> District, fell from the carrier of a Dubbies Bus while it was travelling from Bulawayo to Muchesu in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Binga/">Binga</a>.
Moyo, who was assisting with unloading passengers and luggage at bus stops, had apparently chosen to stay on top of the bus. The conductor, Mr Knowledge Moyo, heard a falling sound near Chilelema Business Centre and immediately alerted the driver, who stopped the bus. Upon investigation, they found Trust Moyo had fallen off and was lifeless on the road. The police were informed, and they observed that the deceased had sustained head injuries from the fall. The body was taken to Binga District Mortuary for a postmortem examination. The police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
Similar incidents have happened before. In 2011, a bus conductor fell from the top of the carrier while loading passengers’ luggage in Matopo District. Given Mpunzi, who worked for Majaha Bus Company, was busy loading luggage when the driver started the bus without realizing he was still on top. A passerby discovered his body along the road and reported it to the police.

A Tout Falls Off A Moving Bus And Dies Instantly

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a road accident that took place on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, near Marondera. The accident involved a Mazda BT50 vehicle that veered off the road, hitting a pedestrian, and then overturning, resulting in the death of a passenger. According to a police report seen by Pindula News, six other individuals sustained injuries in the accident. Read the report:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 08/11/23 at 1230 hours at the 24-kilometre peg along North Road near Summerset area, Marondera where two people were killed whilst six others were injured.
Mazda BT50 vehicle veered off the road and hit a pedestrian before overturning resulting in a passenger being killed. The bodies were taken to Marondera General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

Vehicle Veers Off The Road, Hits A Pedestrian, Overturns Killing A Passenger

An unidentified woman died on November 3, 2023, after she was hit by a car driven by an unknown person on Plumtree Road near Island Stream. Police said the motorist did not stop after the accident. According to a police report seen by Pindula News, the woman died on the spot. Her body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post-mortem examination. Read the statement:

In another incident on November 3, 2023, five people lost their lives in an accident on the Harare-Bulawayo Road at around 9:00 PM. According to the police, a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle went off the road and flipped over, causing the tragic incident. Read the statement:

The bodies of the accident victims were transported to the mortuary at Kadoma General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the injured individuals from the accident are currently receiving treatment and are admitted to the same hospital.

Woman Dies In Hit-and-run, 5 Die In Another Accident

Masvingo Teachers’ College principal, Mr Ben Mutambudzi, has died in a road traffic accident on the Masvingo-Harare highway. He was reportedly on his way to Harare when the crash occurred around 2130 hours on Thursday 26 October 2023. He was 61.
A close family friend confirmed the tragedy, stating that the family has been contacted by the police to identify Mr Mutambudzi’s body at Masvingo General Hospital, according to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/masvingo-teachers-college-principal-dies-in-crash/">The Herald</a>. The exact details of the accident are still under investigation, but it is believed that the collision occurred along the busy highway.
Acting Masvingo Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Lorraine Ndlovu also confirmed Mr Mutambudzi’s death. She added that six other people were rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital with injuries, <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/details-on-mutambudzi-accident-emerge/">Masvingo Mirror</a> reported.
Mr Mutambudzi was travelling from Harare to Masvingo with one passenger, having attended a graduation ceremony. He was driving a Honda CR-V, while Raymond Nyamweda of Warren Park, Harare, who was driving a Toyota Fortuner with six passengers was behind him.
According to Ndlovu, Mr Mutambudzi made a sudden right turn in the middle of the road at Chatsworth Turnoff along Harare Masvingo Highway, resulting in Nyamweda’s vehicle colliding with the driver’s side of the CR-V. The impact caused Mr Mutambudzi’s vehicle to veer off the road and come to a stop three meters away. The Fortuner also swerved and hit a culvert, resulting in injuries to five passengers.
Ndlovu said it is unclear at this point whether Mr Mutambudzi signalled before making the turn or if Nyamweda was driving closely behind or speeding. The CR-V sustained extensive damage, while the Fortuner suffered significant frontal damage. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the exact cause.
The Herald reports that this was not the first time Mr Mutambudzi was involved in a road accident this year. Sources close to him revealed that he had already experienced two near-fatal crashes earlier in the year. The unfortunate sequence of events has left many in disbelief and questioning the circumstances surrounding the accidents.
Mr Mutambudzi was highly respected for his dedication and commitment to Masvingo Teachers’ College. Kangela Mine Collapses Killing 4 People

The leader of <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Forever_Associates_Zimbabwe">Forever Associates Zimbabwe</a> (FAZ), Kudakwashe Munsaka lost three family members on Tuesday after they were struck by a bolt of lightning during a ferocious thunderstorm.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200018432/faz-leader-loses-3-family-members-in-lighting-strike">The Standard</a> on Saturday, Munsaka said his aunt and her two grandchildren were struck by lightning in Binga, Matabeleland North Province. He said:

It’s actually a tragedy that befell the people of Binga in Chabwidi village under Chief Siabuwa, particularly my family.
It was the eve of the 18th around 11 pm.
My aunt Belitha Munkuli (79) with her grandchildren; Meekness Munkuli (11) and Accept Bulemu (5) and a neighbour Rudo Muzamba were struck by lightning.
They were sleeping in a thatched hut and lightning struck and burnt the hut.
Neighbours tried to come and rescue them, but they failed as they had locked the door from inside. So this takes our death toll to four.

FAZ Leader Loses 3 Relatives In Lightning Strike

The deputy head boy of St George’s College in Harare and an Upper Sixth student, Ashley Musendekwa, has died in a car accident. Their vehicle collided head-on with a Koala Park Abattoir truck along Harare Drive in Marlborough.
Witnesses claim they were racing before the collision occurred on Wednesday. Both the deputy head boy and the truck driver also lost their lives in the accident. Ashley Musendekwa had just finished writing one of his final exams when he was involved in the accident.
He was described as a bright and ambitious young man by a relative who spoke to Pindula News on condition of anonymity. The relative told this reporter:

In response to reports suggesting Ashley’s involvement in reckless driving, racing, and speeding before the accident, the relative stated that they considered him a careful and responsible driver. Said the relative:

To us, Ashy was a careful and responsible driver. When he was given this car, the family said they would rather give it to Ashy since he is the one more responsible but yeah, that’s life sometimes a lot just happens, leaving us with many questions. His father is profoundly devastated by the loss. Ashy often expressed his desire to achieve at least half of what his dad had accomplished. The relative expressed disbelief at his sudden death, particularly considering his young age. They added that the circumstances of his rush and the lack of clarity on what really transpired led to thoughts of black magic, as such occurrences are often attributed to it. Said the relative:

He passed on while coming from writing his Maths exam. There is a brother who had promised to come and fetch him. We don’t know where he was rushing to but as you know, in Africa, we have beliefs. When things like these happen we often conclude that it’s black magic because nothing else makes sense. It’s really not easy.

His schoolmates have gathered at his parents’ residence in Borrowdale, Harare, to pay their respects and mourn his passing. The funeral service for Ashley is scheduled to take place on Saturday, followed by his burial at Glenforest Cemetery.

Deputy Head Boy Of George's College In Harare Ashley Musendekwa Has Died

Julie Kadungure, the sister of the late businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, died on October 10, 2023, which was supposed to be Ginimbi’s 39th birthday. Reports suggest that she was involved in an accident while coming from Tanzania and she did not make it. 
The news of Julie’s death was shared on social media, prompting an outpouring of condolences from many people. 
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/juliet-kadungure-dies-on-ginimbis-birthday/">H-Metro</a>, Julie’s last WhatsApp status update was a tribute to her late brother, where she expressed her belief that God knows best. In a previous post, she referred to Ginimbi as a legend who will never be forgotten.

The impact caused his vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a tree, resulting in a fire.

Juliet Kadungure Dies On Her Brother Ginimbi's Birthday

The owner of Murowa Diamonds (Rio Zim) and his son were among the six people who died when the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/09/29/rio-zim-plane-crashed-on-friday-in-mashava-masvingo-killing-six-people/">company’s plane crashed</a> in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mashava/">Mashava</a>, Masvingo on Friday 29 September 2023.
Giving an update on Murowa Diamonds plane crash and the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/09/30/42-trapped-in-bayhorse-mine-collapse-in-chakari-chegutu/">Bay Horse Mine shaft collapse</a> during the Central Committee meeting at ZANU PF Headquarters in Harare on Saturday, Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga/">Constantino Chiwenga</a> said the victims would receive State-assisted funerals. Chiwenga said:

Your Excellency (President Emmerson Mnangagwa), last night we had an accident at Chakari. This is a disused former German mine. However, when it was reopened, the new owner did not take necessary precautions, which saw the 34 miners being trapped.
First to be rescued were 13 miners, and then followed by eight, bringing the total to 21. Three bodies were retrieved, five are still in there and have been located. So, we believe we might have lost about 13.
Also yesterday, the owner of Murowa Diamonds and his son, as well as four other members, were involved in a plane crash.
I was in Chirumanzu when the accident happened. It was bad weather. Arrangements have been done for the State to assist with burials.

Nine fatalities have been reported at the Bay Horse Mineshaft in Chegutu, with six individuals still buried under debris. Ongoing efforts are being made to recover the remaining bodies. The Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has been mobilised and a command centre established at the mine. Four additional miners are yet to be located, but it has been confirmed that they were part of the teams present underground during the collapse.
Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister Dr Polite Kambamura told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/president-mourns-accident-victims">The Sunday Mail</a> yesterday that efforts were underway to account for everyone. He spoke from the site:

There were 34 people underground when the accident occurred. Out of the 34 miners, 21 survived and escaped with injuries.
Out of the remaining 13, nine have been confirmed dead and we have retrieved three bodies that have been taken to mortuary.
We are making frantic efforts to retrieve the other dead bodies and locate the other four, as we try to account for everyone.

According to Mr. Michael Munodawafa, the chief mining engineer in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the retrieval operation for the bodies will be conducted with utmost respect and dignity. They plan to utilize a specialized motor that will break the rock without causing ground movement or further harm to the bodies. This approach will facilitate the removal of rock fragments more easily and safely.
Mr. Trevor Murombedzi, one of the survivors, recounted the tragic incident that claimed the life of his brother, Tendai (23). He said they observed signs of an imminent roof collapse in the mine and attempted to flee. Tragically, a large section of the ground above them collapsed, leading to the devastating outcome. He added:

I escaped unhurt together with the other three that I was working with from a group of nine.
The other five, including my brother, were trapped by the ground.

The aircraft got airborne from RGMIA at 06:30 a.m. Zimbabwe time, flying to Murowa (near Zvishavane) with 6 people on board. Last contact with the aircraft was at 07:03 am Zimbabwe time. The FIC had checked with destination and were told that the aircraft had not arrived. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirms the aircraft accident, and 6 fatalities of the occupants on board the aircraft about 6 km to the North West of Masluwa.
The names of the deceased pilot and the other five occupants of the aircraft have been withheld until the next akin had been notified about the accident.

There have been reports that up to 30 people may have lost their lives in the collapse. The community in Chakari has criticised mine guards for obstructing rescue efforts by artisanal miners, stating that more lives could have been saved. Community members told journalist Owen Matava that rescue efforts were still to be conducted as of 8 p.m. on Friday.
According to Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Polite Kambamura, a government team assessed the situation and confirmed that a mine collapse occurred at around 10 a.m. The team also established that 34 miners were trapped underground, with 13 managing to escape. Dr. Nembaware, who had been working at a rural hospital in Hauna, was involved in a road accident while travelling to Mutare. Despite being stabilized at Mutare Hospital for severe Traumatic Brain Injury, the hospital lacked a functional ICU unit and city-to-city ambulance service. Thus, he needed to be transferred to Harare for specialized care via air ambulance. Chin’ono wrote:

Despite parading the overpriced so called helicopter ambulance, the State couldn’t airlift him to Harare. His family put together US$5,000 to airlift him using a private ambulance air service. An illegal gold panner named Macron Japajapa (40) from Nehanda village, Chief Kazangarare, Hurungwe in Karoi, was killed by an elephant in the Zambezi Valley Escarpment on September 12, 2023. 
Japajapa, his brother Knowledge (23), and other villagers went into the wilderness for unauthorized gold prospecting. Around 11 p.m., they paused near Mukwichi River for a break. They then encountered the elephant which killed Japajapa.
Inspector Margaret Chitove, the spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Mashonaland West confirmed the development. Said Chitove:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police announces names of eight (08) victims who died in fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 60 km peg along Harare-Mutate Road on 30th August 2023 when a Honda Fit vehicle collided head-on with a VW Toures. 
The victims were positively identified as follows:-

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, avoid speeding and overtaking when it is not safe to do so.

Some individuals on social media have criticized the police, blaming them for the accident and alleging that they overlook illegal public transportation vehicles known as “Mshika shika.” They find it unacceptable that the Honda Fit, designed for up to five passengers, was carrying eight individuals. They suspect that the vehicle may have passed multiple police checkpoints through alleged bribery.

ZRP Has Released Names Of Victims In Fatal Road Accident Near Marondera

Seven people died, while four others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on the Harare-Mutare Road. According to a police report obtained by Pindula News, the accident involved a collision between a Honda Fit and a VW Touareg vehicle. Some social media users have criticised the police, holding them responsible for the accident and alleging that they turn a blind eye to illegal public transportation vehicles known as “Mshika shika.”
They argue that it is unacceptable the Honda Fit involved in the accident, which typically seats up to five people, was carrying eight passengers. They presume that the vehicle may have passed through multiple police checkpoints but was allowed to pass due to alleged bribery. 
The increase of “Mishka shika” vehicles in Zimbabwe can be attributed to limited public transportation options, high unemployment rates, flexibility in routes and schedules, and weak regulation and enforcement. These informal vehicles fill the gap in areas with inadequate formal transportation services. Addressing the issue requires improving public transportation infrastructure, promoting formal employment, enhancing regulation and enforcement, and prioritising commuter safety.

Seven Dead, Four Injured In Tragic Harare-Mutare Road Accident

Rescue operations are underway in Penhalonga, Manicaland province, to locate the bodies of two illegal miners who are feared dead after a mine shaft collapsed on Wednesday.
James Mupfumi, Director of the Centre for Research and Development, confirmed the search and revealed that open-cast alluvial gold mining was taking place along the Mutare River in Penhalonga.
Mupfumi stated that a representative from Chief Mutasa had conducted a ritual at the site seeking guidance, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200015529/2-illegal-miners-feared-dead-as-mine-collapses">NewsDay</a> reported. He added:

Two people died in an accident that occurred on August 12, 2023, at approximately 0930 hours along Nyanga-Rwenya Road’s 18-kilometre peg. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the incident and reported that an additional 12 individuals sustained injuries.
According to the police statement seen by Pindula News, the accident involved a Mazda B2500 vehicle carrying 13 passengers, which veered off the road. Reads the statement:

Two Die, 12 Injured In Nyanga-Rwenya Road Accident

Four people died in a tragic road accident that occurred on Friday, August 11, 2023, along the Birchenough Bridge-Chipinge Road. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident in a statement obtained by Pindula News. According to the ZRP, the accident involved a head-on collision between a Nissan Caravan vehicle, carrying 32 members of the African Apostolic Church, and a Mercedes Benz vehicle with five passengers on board. Four individuals lost their lives in the collision, while 33 others sustained injuries.
ZRP said the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Birchenough Bridge General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital. Reads the police statement:

Four People Die In Birchenough Bridge-Chipinge Road Accident

ZRP Confirms Fire At Harare Central Police Station

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of six victims in the tragic incident at Lilian Mine in Inyathi on August 3, 2023. The incident occurred when underground water was accidentally struck by drillers, resulting in flooding of the mine tunnels.
According to an initial report obtained by Pindula News, a total of 14 miners were trapped while extracting gold ore at the mine in Matabeleland North Province. Fortunately, eight miners were able to escape, but sadly, six individuals lost their lives.
Police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, has released the names of the victims as identified by their next of kin. The police update areas as follows:
