2017 Africa Cup of Nations, aka AFCON 2017 is starting on 14 Janurary 2017 and ending on 5 February in Gabon. A total of 16 teams qualified with Zimbabwe amoung them. The last time Zimbabwe was at AFCON was in 2006. Zimbabwe is in group B together with Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia.
Afcon is sponsored by Total SA.
Zimbabwe's first game will be against Algeria on 15 January 2017. Next, Zimbabwe will play Algeria on 19 January 2017 Finally, in the group, Zimbabwe will play Tunisia on 23 January.
The winners of AFCON 2017 will qualify for FIFA Confederations Cup to be held in Russia the same year.

Only the hosts will receive an automatic qualification spot, the other 15 teams will qualify through a qualification tournament. At the finals, the 16 teams will be drawn into four groups of four teams each. The teams in each group play a single round robin. After the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals. The semifinal losers will play in third place match, while semifinal winners will play in final.
The draw was done on 19 October 2016 in Gabon. The seedings approved by the Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations at its meeting on Monday, 26 September 2016 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, was determined taking into account the performance of the qualified teams during the following competitions:
- Afcon finals in 2012, 2013 and 2015
- Afcon qualifiers in 2013, 2015, and 2017
- World Cup in 2014
- World Cup qualifiers in 2014
