Bona Mugabe is the daughter of Zimbabwean politician and current president, Robert Mugabe and First Lady Grace Mugabe.
Background
She was born Nyepudzai Bona Mugabe on the 18th of April 1990. Bona is the name of Robert's mother. She has two siblings, Robert Mugabe Junior and Chatunga Mugabe. She married Simba Chikore on 1 March 2014 in Harare.
Education
She attended Dominican Convent Primary School and Dominican Convent High School for her education. She then graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree in Accountancy from the City University of Hong Kong, China in 2011.[1]
Rape reports
Bona hogged the limelight in 2010 when they were reports that she was raped. She was allegedly raped by two Tanzanians at the City University of Hong Kong when the two gave her spiked wines at a party.[2] The claims were only rubbished three years later in 2013 by Bona's mother Grace Mugabe, who claimed that her daughter was still a virgin.[3]
Marriage and Wedding
She was on August 4, 2013 customarily married to Simba Chikore in a traditional marriage held at her rural home Zvimba. Her husband allegedly paid more than US $35, 000 in bride price.[4] Her wedding which took part on the 1st of March 2014, was attended by many foreign dignitaries among them South African President Jacob Zuma, Zambia’s Michael Sata and his wife Joyce and Equatorial Guinea Head of State Teodoro Obiang.[5] Kofi Olomide was the guest artist who perfomed at the ceremony held in Borrowdale. Mugabe gave the pair US$150,000 plus 150 head of cattle. All in all it was estimated that Bona received close to US$3 million in gifts.[6] It was widely reported that Bona was pressured to marry by her mother Grace who wanted to grant her husband Robert Mugabe’s wish who wanted to see her daughter marry before his death.It is also revealed that Bona and Simba are under pressure to have a child quickly so that the Mugabe's will see their grandson soon.[7]
