Dr. Peter Magombeyi is a junior medical doctor and trade unionist in Zimbabwe. He is the acting president of the Zimbabwean Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA).

On 14 September 2019, he is believed to have been abducted at around 10 pm from his home. The union leader sent a short message to colleagues saying he believed he was being kidnapped before all communications ceased.

On 16 September 2019 High Court Judge Justice Edith Mushore ordered people holding Magombeyi to immediately release him or bring him to court within 48 hours. She also ordered Home Affairs and State Security Ministers to determine his whereabouts and set up a team of investigators to search for him.

Response To His Abduction

There was a significantly large from colleagues in the health profession who went on a march on 16 September 2019 to protest his abduction. Over 200 medical doctors delivered a petition to President Emmerson Mnangagwa demanding the release of Magombeyi.

A prayer vigil was held at Parirenyatwa Hospital on the night of 16 September 2019 in solidarity with Magombeyi.
