Jah Seed is an award winning, Zimbabwean kwaito and reggae/dancehall artist based in South Africa. He made a name for himself singing with the group Bongo Muffin. Apart from being a musician, Jah Seed also doubles as a disc jockey.


Jah Seed was born Anesu Mupemi in Mbare in 1973.[1] During the early part of his career, he was also known as Apple seed before switching to Jah Seed.


Jah seed has been in the music circles for a very long time. In 1996, he co-founded African Storm Sound System with Andy “Admiral” Kasrils.[2] He is also the co-founder of acclaimed South African outfit Bongo Muffin alongside Thandiswa Mazwai and Stoan in the same year. The group released hits such as Thath’ isgubhu and Kura Uone.

The artist has been entangled in controversial happenings in his career. He was reported to have bashed a female patron in a pub who was in the company of her lesbian partner. The artist was also deported from South Africa after it was alleged that he was in the country illegally.[3]
