Higher Education Minister Professor [[Jonathan Moyo]] has justified the building of a new [[Parliament of Zimbabwe|parliament]] building despite the prevailing economic conditions.

While responding to a twitter user who had asked if it was justifiable for [[Government of Zimbabwe|government]] to build a new parliament building in light of the prevailing economic conditions, Moyo said<blockquote>It's funded by a grant from the People's Republic of China. Zimbabweans should be grateful for the grant & we are!</blockquote>

The government owned [[Herald]] reported that Zimbabwe and China had [http://www.herald.co.zw/boost-for-new-parly-building/ signed an agreement worth $46 million in Beijing], as part of the first tranche of funds for the construction of the new Parliament Building in Mt Hampden. The agreement was signed by Macro Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Minister  [[Obert Mpofu]] and Chinese Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi during a meeting on the follow-up to the implementation of various projects being carried out by the Chinese.The meeting was attended by more than 100 government ministers from African countries and was a follow-up to the Johannesburg summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (Focac) held last year.

[[Zimbabwe]] is currently facing acute money shortages with banks such as [[Central Africa Building Society|CABS]] and [[People's Own Savings Bank|POSB]] of recent, failing to furnish their clients with hard cash. The government through the [[Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe]] has resorted to the issuing of [[Zimbabwe Bond Notes|bond notes]] which are slated for an October release.
