Solomon Mutsvairo is one of Zimbabwe's most celebrated novelists of all time. One of his most noteworthy accomplishments was the the composition of the lyrics of the Zimbabwe National Anthem which was officially adopted in 1994 replacing Ishe Komborerai Africa.
The novel Feso was also one of Mutsvairo's finest works. It propelled him to national prominence. The novel was popular among the nationalist movement in colonial Zimbabwe due to the manner in which it seemed to criticize colonialism, which ultimately led to its banning by the colonial government.
