Rutendo Chigudu who is an award-winning literary artist and a staunch feminist who advocates for the plight of women on the basis that human beings are entitled to human rights regardless of sex, gender, age and ethnicity.


Chigudu was born Rutendo Tapiwa Chugudu. She went to Dadaya High Schoo and in 2004, she was at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).[1]In 2007, she graduated at UZ with a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Theatre Arts.[1] From then onwards, Rutendo has been a force to reckon with advancing the plight of women in arts. In 2010, she was also part of Rooftop Promotions ensemble which participated at the All Africa Dance Festival for Peace which was held in Nairobi, Kenya in December 2010.[2]

Rutendo has written so many articles tackling the bias of the society towards men at the expense of their female counterparts. One amongst her numerous articles is entitled The Arrogance of the Penis in which critics the attitude of men towards women and even plants and animals.[3]

Whilst she was still at UZ, she was awarded the UZ Book Prize for being the best student in the Theatre Arts Department in August 2006.[1]
