Wilson Chivaura was a Zimbabwean radio personality who worked for the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation (RBC) as a presenter and producer for what was known as the African Service. Chivaura was also a poet and wrote poems that were published in overseas magazines and newspapers.

Background

He was born and bred in Zvimba. He survived by a wife and 5 children.

Education

He went to Kutama Mission for his primary and upper education. He later studied at Domboshava Agricultural Training Institute.

Career

After finishing his studies at Domboshava Agricultural Institute he returned at Kutama Mission to be an agricultural instructor. He joined the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation in 1963. He became a senior producer at Harare Studios. Chivaura created the programme "Madzinza nemitupo". He also introduced new Shona books through the programme "Kudzidza Hakuperi".

Chivaura also wrote poetry and some of his poems were published in an anthology titled Madetembedzo Akare Namatsva in 1959. His poems were also translated and published in overseas magazines and newspapers.

Death

He died on March 4, 1968 aged 40.
