<p>The General Secretary of the African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Kwasi Adu-Amankwah was on Tuesday morning dragged from his hotel room in Harare by authorities soon after his arrival.</p>
<p>Adu-Amankwah was on a visit to meet the leaders of local labour body, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU). He is set to be deported.</p>
<p><a href="https://twitter.com/ZctuZimbabwe/status/1100293029741637632" rel="noopener" target="_blank">This was revealed by the ZCTU in a statement:</a></p>
<blockquote><p>Secretary-General Kwasi Adu Amankwa faces deportation, detained at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare. He was dragged from a local hotel and taken back to the airport soon after arriving early this morning. He was scheduled to meet ZCTU.</p></blockquote>
<p>The government of Zimbabwe has shown evident distaste towards international labour leaders. A few years back, the then leader of the Confederation of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Zwelinzima Vavi was deported soon after arriving from South Africa.</p>
