The Agrippa Mutambara led Zimbabwe People First (Zim PF) which <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/05/27/full-thread-zimbabwe-people-first-pulls-out-of-mdc-alliance/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">recently withdrew from the MDC</a>, has said that they recognise President Mnangagwa as the legitimated leader of the country. This is a departure from the position of the MDC which maintains that Mnangagwa did not legitimately win the July 2018 presidential election.
Senior party member Vongai Muti, made the statement during a ZTN show when she was asked if the MDC was right to put the question of Mnangagwa’s legitimacy as a precondition for involvement in the ongoing political leader’s dialogue.

FULL THREAD: Zimbabwe People First Pulls Out Of MDC Alliance

Speaking to NewsDay yesterday, MDC Alliance co-principal and ZimPF leader Agrippa Mutambara said there was no point in rescuing Zanu PF through a Government of National Unity.
He said the opposition should not interfere and let Zanu-PF deliver its election promises. Said Mutambara:
<blockquote>The position that I think we should adopt as an alliance is that if the government says it was elected by the people on the promises that he [Mnangagwa] gave, including turning around the economy, let us not interfere. Let them deliver what they promised and as the alliance we must not be lured to join the bandwagon of Zanu PF. Let them deliver what they promised. When we said we are capable of delivering, they said a lot of things, promising economic success to the people of Zimbabwe and let them show us now. There is no need for a GNU and if there is one, I will not be part of it.</blockquote>

No Need For GNU, Let Zanu-PF Fail Alone: Mutambara To MDC Alliance Leaders

Agrippa Mutambara who is the leader of Zinbabwe People First (ZimPF) said that he was still in charge despite being dismissed by the party’s secretary-general Kudakwashe Bhasikiti. Mutambara said that Bhasikiti had already been dismissed when he fired him for failing to properly consult on the MDC Alliance.
Said Bhasikiti:
<blockquote>I have not had any leadership challenge. There is a rogue element, an impostor in the name of Bhasikiti, who is doing his own things. I have 100% support except Bhasikiti alone and a few of his followers. I am firmly in charge, stronger than before. 
We have no problem at the MDC Alliance. We are in touch with them and we are not going to entertain people like Bhasikiti. He will no longer feature as representing ZimPF. We removed him and the alliance is aware of that. He is not going to participate on our behalf and we have replaced him.
When he purported that he fired me, we had already suspended him with a unanimous decision of the steering committee, in fact, when he panicked and went to the media, he had already been stood down.</blockquote>

Mutambara says he was not fired from Zimbabwe People First

The circus at opposition party, Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF)continues after the party fire interim president retired brigadier general Agrippa Mutambara. Mutambara was expelled from the party in a letter signed by the party’s secretary general and former Masvingo provincial affairs minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti. He was expelled for forming an alliance with former prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai by joining the MDC Alliance. Mutambara is alleged to have made the decision unilaterally.
<blockquote>Upon taking the position of the interim president of the party, you categorically promised to share the platform with Judith Todd in order to clear your name on the rape allegations and we are worried that this has not happened as you want to hold congress leaving these issues unattended to.
You can continue as ordinary party member if you so wish … hope you will adjust yourself to leave (sic) with this new reality</blockquote>

ZimPF Fires Interim President Mutambara For Forming Alliance With Tsvangirai, Failing to Clear Rape Allegation

Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader Agrippa Mutambara denied raping Judith Todd and instead implied the two were in a relationship.
Said Mutambara:
<blockquote>A lot has been said about Judith Todd and Brigadier –General Mutambara. We developed a relationship with Judith when I met her at the Quill club when I was in the company of the late Justin Nyoka and army commander General Solomon Mujuru. We developed a friendship with Todd. I know there are a lot of misconceptions regarding my relationship with her. Yes, we were friends and there was nothing wrong in having a friend in Judith Todd. Even up to now our relationship is not that bad. Of course that time I was not married and to the best of my knowledge she was not married also. So any relationship that might have taken place was nothing wrong.</blockquote>

Mutambara denies raping Judith Todd, says she was a 'friend'

Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader Agrippa Mutambara distanced himself from the Gukurahundi atrocities claiming he had no links to the killings.
Said Mutambara:
<blockquote>I want you to understand that what happened during Gukurahundi was a closely-guarded secret even to army commanders. The only indicator that something was afoot was the fact that I might have seen some vehicles, which I had not seen before, and did not know where they were going. But otherwise, we were not privy to anything. Also at the time, I was not a member of the fighting force, and so, I have no link to Gukurahundi whatsoever.</blockquote>
Mutambara also said he felt sorry for President Robert Mugabe and those that are urging him to continue in power. He said that such people should be held accountable when the Government comes.

Mutambara distances himself from Gukurahundi, says he feels sorry for Mugabe

The interim leader of the Zimbabwe People First Party (ZimPF), Retired Brigadier General Agrippa Mutambara has accused members of the G40 Faction and First Lady Grace Mugabe of propping up President Mugabe in order to continue looting the country’s resources. Mutambara said Mugabe’s continued stay in power allowed Kasukuwere, Grace and others to amass immense wealth.
Said Mutambara:
<blockquote>President Mugabe is no longer in control but Grace, Kasukuwere and others. They want Mugabe to stay in power at all costs so that they continue to loot country`s resources and enriching themselves at the expense of the suffering masses</blockquote>
Mutambara also attacked Grace for allegedly abusing her position and inciting youths to kill. He added
<blockquote>You buy a $1,5 million diamond ring at a time the majority of people are sinking in a sea of poverty, when parents cannot pay fees for their children.
You can afford to charter a plane for your daughter to deliver abroad at government expense while people are suffering.
She has turned our youths to be murderers. Our youths are being turned into giant killing machines being used by Zanu PF.
As Zim PF we don’t want to allow this in the country we fought for and liberated.</blockquote>

They are keeping Mugabe in power in order to loot: Retired Army General

Zimbabwe People First elders, Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa reportedly walked out of a party meeting that sought to endorse Agrippa Mutambara as the leader.
Sources who spoke to NewsDay said that the two founding members and their supporters walked out in protest after disagreeing on Mutambara taking over. Mutambara said that he will address the issue today in a press conference. However, Gumbo refused to comment and referred all the questions to spokesperson Patrick Chitaka, who confirmed the walkout.

Opposition party Zimbabwe People First has split again less than 2 months after splitting for the first time. Party elders Rugare Gumbo and Didymus Mutasa insisted that they are still in charge of the party, despite earlier reports by Kudakwashe Bhasikiti that former army general Agrippa Mutambara was now in charge. However, Patrick Chitaka speaking on behalf of Gumbo and Mutasa said that Bhasikiti and Mutambara had expelled themselves from the party by their actions. The

<blockquote>To us, the two are no longer with us as they have decided to form their own party after they unsuccessfully attempted to impose their leadership on ZPF.
What we will not allow them to do though is to use the name of our party because we have realised that we are not walking the same path.
However, Bhasikiti and his group had made their mind on Mutambara and they wanted to have him as leader and they pushed us to interview him and the majority of us felt he fell short of what we wanted while they wanted him as leader regardless so they decided to foist him on the people which we said no to.
After Bhasikiti announced Mutambara as the new leader youth members of the party protested the appointment.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe People First splits again

Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) has split again following a leadership dispute between a faction led by Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo and another led by Agrippa Mutambara who was announced as the party’s leader by Kudakwashe Bhasikiti.
Gumbo and Mutasa’s spokesperson Patrick Chitaka told Daily News that Mutambara and Bhasikiti had fired themselves from the party by trying to impose a leader. Said Chitaka:
<blockquote>To us the two are no longer with us as they have decided to form their own party after they unsuccessfully tried to impose their leadership on ZPF.  What we will not allow them to do though is to use the name of our party because we have realised that we are not walking the same path. We had called a management meeting to consider the four names that had been proposed as potential party leaders, including Ray Kaukonde, Jabulani Sibanda, Mutambara and Nkosana Moyo but when the other three said they were not interested, we decided that we would wait until congress. However, Bhasikiti and his group had made their mind on Mutambara and they wanted to have him as leader and they pushed us to interview him and the majority of us felt he fell short of what we wanted while they wanted him as leader regardless so they decided to foist him on the people which we said no to. We are therefore going ahead with our plans without them because they were a problem and against the coalition with other parties that we are pursuing.</blockquote>
When asked by Daily News for a comment, Jabulani Sibanda who had been announced as the party’s political commissar, said he was unaware of his election to the position and promised to issue a statement dismissing it. The Daily News could not reach Bhasikiti for a comment as he was said to be attending an important meeting.
