Award-winning guitarist, lyricist, and dancer <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a> says he values family shows and will always prioritise such gatherings as they are important for bonding.
The “King of Sungura” was speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/family-comes-first-macheso/">H-Metro</a> ahead of his performance at the Winter Warmer Family Bash at the Harare Gardens on Sunday. He said:

I have been performing for years now but family shows have a special place in my heart. I always love to see parents with their children enjoying our music in one place.
Most of our schedules are demanding, nhasi Baba vabuda neuko mai neuko kunoshava, and it is only at such events that they can get the chance to be together with their families.

The event on Sunday is expected to start as early as midday to enable children to attend. Said Macheso:

This is a family show and we should make sure that even children have a chance to see their favourite artists performing.
We are looking forward to it and we are inviting families to come in their numbers and have fun with their loved ones in one place.
It’s been a long time since we staged a family show at Harare Gardens and this will also come with special memories for us as musicians and the fans as well.

Sungura musician Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo has denied reports claiming that he has hit hard times and begged for financial assistance from <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a>.
Posting on his Facebook page, <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Peter_Moyo">Peter Moyo</a>, son of late musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tongai_Moyo">Tongai Moyo</a>, popularly known as Dhewa, thanked his fans who checked on him following the reports, adding that the claims are falsehoods. <a href="https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02Ctq34KsaYRfMWBtthLUpxubDEcPtdVDRqqfpf3aTthrKnSq88bWL8Lymw3YcRETBl&amp;id=100000807777650&amp;mibextid=Nif5oz">He wrote</a>:

According to a report, Peter asked for rent money from Macheso during a family musical show at Steak House in Waterfalls recently.
He was quoted as saying he received the money to pay his rent and more than US$500 from well-wishers after his public appeal. 
The report also claimed that Macheso commended Peter for opening up on his problem and that pledged to assist him. Macheso reportedly said:

Chekuvanza hapana mikore yatiri iyi, we must be sharing our problems and situations in life as is the case with Peter Moyo.
Peter, you are my son, be open, I am there for you, Tongai is not dead because we are there.

Peter Moyo Refutes Reports He Begged For Money From Macheso

Sungura musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a> has paid rent for <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Peter_Moyo">Peter Moyo</a>, son of late musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tongai_Moyo">Tongai Moyo</a>, popularly known as Dhewa.
Peter asked for rent money from Macheso during a family musical show at Steak House in Waterfalls last week.
The Utakataka Express band leader later said he received the money to pay his rent and more than US$500 from well-wishers after his public appeal. Said Peter:

At least if you help me with US$150, I will look for another US$150 to pay my rent.

Alick Macheso Pays Rentals For Peter Moyo

Sungura musician Alick Macheso has urged Allan Chimbetu to unite with Suluman, Tryson, and his son Douglas to preserve Dendera music which was pioneered by the late Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu several decades ago.
Macheso said the Chimbetus should emulate the unity that was demonstrated by the late Dendera co-founders, Simon and Naison, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/chimbetus-must-unite-macheso-wishes-for-united-dendera-family/">H-Metro</a>.
Addressing Allan on the stage after their joint show at Makuluwani Gardens near White House Shopping Centre at the weekend, Macheso said:

As the torch bearer of the Dendera music genre, you should help preserve the genre together with your children.
You must move together with Suluman, Tryson and Douglas as their father figure.
So far you are yet to realise much, which calls for you to unite.

Macheso later closed his eyes and prayed for Allan and the other Chimbetus’ financial prosperity. Said Macheso:

Simbarashe has given interviews to a number of social media pages claiming to be Alick’s son.
However, speaking in an exclusive interview with <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/he-is-not-my-son-macheso-speaks-on-forgotten-son/">H-Metro</a> on Wednesday, Macheso said Simbarashe is an attention-seeker. He said:

I heard of these stories for some time now. I can’t speak much about social media stories, but the truth is he is one of those people who want to use celebrities to get into the limelight.
This is not new in this industry. What I can say is vanhu vanotsvaga mbiri zvakasiyana.

On this one, it’s up to you (the media) to keep entertaining such things for likes and sales.

If you love Sungura and stay in Ruwa, the place to be tonight is Leisure Centre, where Alick Macheso and the Ochestra Mberikwazvo will be performing alongside Peter Moyo and Utakataka Express from 6pm till late. Admission is Cover Charge.

Alick Macheso’s former lover, Petunia Rwizi, to whom he dedicated one of his popular songs, Petunia, has died.
Petunia died at the age of 45.
Petunia recently succumbed to cancer and was laid to rest on 11 October at her rural home in Dirikwe Village of Nyanyadzi in Chimanimani District, according to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/funeral-party-for-machesos-lover/">Manica Post</a>.
Macheso and Petunia have one child named Munashe who was born in 2000, the same year the song Petunia was released.
Mourners who gathered at Petunia’s rural homestead for a three-day funeral wake would often break into song and dance, with the hit song “Petunia”, being the soundtrack of the funeral.
Brother to the deceased, Isay Rwizi, spoke to Manica Post: 
<blockquote>
Most people who knew my sister well pleaded with us to have some sort of a funeral party for Petunia.
They played Alick Macheso’s music throughout and danced.
Apart from the suggestive dances, we saw nothing wrong with that because we all know that the two, Macheso and my sister Petunia, once had an affair and they had a child together.
</blockquote>
Macheso also assisted Petunia with her hospital bills, long after her relationship with Macheso had ended, according to The Weekender.
The sungura maestro is also said to have contributed towards Petunia’s burial. Isay Rwizi said:

During the days she was unwell, Mai Shero (Macheso’s wife) gave our sister some financial assistance and we appreciate such humility.
</blockquote>
In the song “Petunia”, Macheso expresses his deep love for the woman. 
Back then, the rumour mill had it that a Chipinge man only identified as Garikai, who is also now late, was in a relationship with Petunia when Macheso came into the picture and he dumped her.
Macheso is said to have dedicated “Madhau” to a lover who was based in Marondera, while “Monalisa” hailed from Bulawayo and “Tafadzwa” traces part of her upbringing to Mutare.

Alick Macheso's Petunia Dies

Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo will be without key member, Jonasi Kasamba when they embark on their international tour beginning Saturday night. 
The group’s publicist, Tich Makahamadze, told <a href="https://ztn.co.zw/bereaving-kasamba-misses-macheso-tour/">ZTN</a> that Kasamba lost his mother and has since returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo, his home country. He said:

Yes, Jonasi is missing the tour. He has lost his mother back in DRC and we have allowed him to travel and mourn his mother. “We have him and his family in prayers and we would have loved to be with him in these difficult times but it’s unfortunate the death came at a time we’re on this tour.
It’s not a secret that Jonasi brings that vibe into the band, that’s his job. We are going to miss him but work has to continue. Those who are available will do the job.
We were set to start the tour Friday night in Dubai but due to reasons beyond our control, we had to postpone it to Saturday (tonight).

Macheso is set to perform in Asia, Australia and Europe, with a performance at Secret Lounge, Excelsior Hotel, Al Barsha in Dubai tonight.
In Australia, Macheso is to perform in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane between August 12 and 20. He completes the tour with a performance in Leicester, the United Kingdom on August 28.
He will be supported by Gemma Griffiths.

Macheso Leaves Jonasi Kasamba Behind As He Embarks On International Tour

Sungura musician Alick Macheso has engaged various local video producers, including Vusa “Blaqs” Hlatshwayo, for the production of videos for songs on his latest album “Tinosvitswa Nashe”.
Orchestra Mberikwazvo manager Tich Makahamadze said they approached various video producers and tasked them to come up with scripts so that they will pick the best.
Makahamadze also revealed that Macheso will be touring the United Kingdom in the coming weeks. He said:
We are expecting to start working on the videos on Tuesday.
So far we gave various video producers tasks to develop a script for the song Kutadzirana, which we want to start working on before our United Kingdom tour.
We will be touring the United Kingdom in the coming weeks and we hope we will be done with the initial stages of the videos.

Macheso Working On Videos For Latest Album

Musician, Mark Ngwazi, says he is not afraid of competition from Sungura rival Alick Macheso.
Ngwazi is set to release his new album on 25 June, a fortnight after Macheso, widely considered one of the best Sungura artistes, releases his album. He told H-Metro:

This is the year for sungura in Zimbabwe. I am urging everyone who sings sungura to release projects this year.

Ngwazi will launch his seven-track album, titled Nharo Nezvine Nharo, at Longchen Plaza, in the capital, Harare.
The musician is confident his new offering will be popular with his fans after tracks he sampled at shows have been well-received on social media platforms. He said:

Mark Ngwazi "Not Afraid" Of Alick Macheso

Alick Macheso’s dancer, Selemani Mpochi, popularly known as Majuice, has appeared in court on allegations of raping his 17-year-old girlfriend.
Mpochi (34) was facing rape charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded him out of custody on his own recognition.
Prosecutors told the court that on 20 August this year, the complainant sent a text message to the dancer begging him to drive her to Kuwadzana the following day for a party.
It is alleged that the next day Mpochi met the complainant and they proceeded to Kuwadzana where he dropped her and went away.
At around 5 pm on the same day, the complainant sent a message to Mpochi advising him that she was not feeling comfortable at the party. She told him to come and pick her up.
The court heard that Mpochi drove and picked the complainant and went to a certain house in Crowborough phase 3 where he had sexual intercourse with her once without her consent.
After the act, it is alleged, Mpochi drove the complainant to her house where she arrived late.
On being quizzed by her mother on why she arrived home late, the complainant initially lied about what had transpired.
However, on the following day, she confessed her ordeal to a friend and the matter was reported to the police leading to Mpochi’s arrest.

Alick Macheso’s daughter, Stacey, is set to release a single titled “Amai” on Friday 25th June 2021.
Last year the then Form Three pupil released her debut single “Ingozi” which was recorded at Illicit Records and co-produced by DJ Marcos and Leekay.
Announcing Stacey’s upcoming single in a recent Facebook post, the legendary Sungura musician said “Amai” is aimed at softening the hearts of mothers so their children may be showered with blessings. He said:

Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/macheso-daughter-releases-single/">H-Metro</a> last year ahead of Stacey’s debut single, Orchestra Mberikwazvo publicity manager Tich Makahamadze, who was also assisting Stacy on a voluntary basis, said:
<blockquote>Stacey is still a young girl doing Form 3 but has a deep-seated passion for music as shown by the release of her single.
Lyrically, she is talented and for a young girl for her age, it shows that she is going places and what she needs is support.
And the best support she has received is the backing from her father who has been supportive of his children.
… Unlike most kids of music legends who would want to sing or follow their father’s genres, Stacey has branched into urban contemporary music.
She is sounding differently from her father and that alone shows she has a calling for music.</blockquote>

Macheso's Daughter, Stacey, To Release Single

The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) has released the list of the top 20 highest-earning musicians in terms of royalties disbursed by the organisation.
Zimura is an association of composers and publishers of music that was created to protect the rights of musicians under copyright law and to collect royalties on behalf of the musicians from radio stations that would have played the music.
These royalties are disbursed to the artists every year in the month of June according to the airplay that the music received on the stations.
According to Zimura, the organisation collected $23 million in royalties from Star FM, ZiFM and ZBC and the money is being distributed to 3 300 Zimura members.
The organisation also collected US$30 810 for disbursement to foreign musicians.
The highest-earning musician received $400 000 (approximately US$4700 on the official market and US$3 300 on the black market) while the lowest-earning musician overall received $12 (approximately US$0.14 on the official market and US$0.10 on the black market).
While the list is dominated by contemporary musicians, yesteryear musicians who passed away many years ago are holding their own and are outperforming a vast number of living artists.
The late national hero and music legend Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi who passed away in 2019 is second on the list. Music icons Leonard Dembo who died in 1996 and Simon Chimbetu who died in 2005 are also in the top 10 highest earning Zimbabwe musicians lists in terms of royalties.
The list below is only about royalties and does not include money which the musicians earn from live shows, online streaming platforms and product endorsements.

Zimura Releases Top 20 Highest-Earning Musicians In Zimbabwe

Alick Macheso has denied reports circulating on social media claiming he was planning to plunge into politics with intentions to contest Gutu West seat in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking to The Herald through his manager Tich Makahamadze, the Sungura maestro said he has no aspirations to be a politician in future. He said:
<blockquote>It’s news. Alick Macheso is a whole entertainer with no intentions to join politics in future. I thought that statement was meant for April’s Fools Day.</blockquote>
This comes after some people circulated rumours on social media platforms that Macheso was mobilising support on the ground and was spending time with villagers at Chipisa farm in Chivhu.
But Makahamadze said Macheso was spending most of his time at the farm during the lockdown period.

An unnamed businessman is facing charges of contravening COVID-19 regulations after he hired Sungura maestro Alick Macheso to perform at a family birthday celebration in Watsomba, Manicaland on New Year’s eve.
Speaking to ZBC News, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the event in Watsomba did not go ahead as it was stopped by police. Said Nyathi:
<blockquote>The businessman is now also facing charges of contravening COVID-19 regulations, where it is said twenty people attended the celebrations, but we want to verify.
We are also aware that Macheso had been hired to perform on the 31st of December by another businessman in Mutare.
That event was stopped by the police. So we want musicians to be responsible. Let’s not take for granted the issue of COVID-19.
Musicians should comply with covid-19 regulations. Business-people should comply with covid-19 regulations. This includes members of the public.
Please, please, let us not wait for the police to force us to wear a mask, to practise social distancing, to sanitise.</blockquote>
Ass Comm Nyathi also revealed that fifty-two people have been arrested following an illegal music concert held in Harare’s Mbare suburb on New Year’s Eve.
He said police are looking for the chief suspect in the case, popular music promoter, DJ Fantan, who is allegedly on the run.

Police Probe Businessman Who Hired Macheso For Family Bash On 31 Dec.

The song that was recently released by<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/listen-machesos-brand-new-single-zuro-ndizuro/"> firebrand musician Alick Macheso on Friday</a>, a few hours later had flooded social media due to piracy, The Standard reports. The song was well-received by his legion of fans and it was being played by many people. since they had received the song on social media.
According to an arts journalist that spoke to the publication on the issue, Macheso’s team made the fatal mistake of sending the song to a few people before the official release on online streaming services which resulted in the few people forwarding the song to a few people till it went viral:
<blockquote>His [Macheso] team messed up by giving the song to a ‘few’ guys just before the launch. The other problem is that the single does not have visuals and platforms like YouTube becomes useful when songs are accompanied by visuals.
Look at how the duet Ngaibake with Freeman shone on online platforms. It had visuals and everone was talking about Macheso’s shirt. That is the power of visuals. Macheso should come out of the cocoon and utilise these digital platforms. He needs the right people to do that for him.</blockquote>
When contacted for comment Macheso said he had received good reports about the song from his fans and he even teased that he might release another song before the year ends:
<blockquote>I am hearing a good report from my team. The fans are generally excited and happy with the single and this gives us cause to give them more.
We have a full album ready for the market, but in as much as we have embraced online music marketing, we would be happy to have a proper launch with our fans in attendance, hence the delay. The single is just but a taste of what’s to come and if it is to be on the full album, it will be a bonus.
Should conditions and logistics allow, we wouldn’t mind releasing another single even before year end just to treat our treasured fans to some good music.
I really miss the stage and though I am happy to have given my fans something to cheer about, I feel saddened by the fact that we can’t be playing the music live.</blockquote>
Macheso’s manager however said Zuro NdiZuro was just a taste of what’s to come as they have a full album ready for the market:

Popular Sungura musician Alick Macheso’s manager’s Tich Makahamadze said the coronavirus lockdown has prevented Orchestra Mberikwazvo to hold a welcome back gig for the returning “prodigal son”, the revered rhythm guitarist Zakaria Zakaria (Zaka Zaka).
Zaka Zaka reunited with his cousin, Macheso, after his venture as leader of the group Chilli Boys failed.
Makahamadze revealed that Orchestra Mberikwazvo is currently working on a new album and fans will be notified of the dates of release when authorities lift the current movement restrictions. He said:
<blockquote>We could have done something big because this is worth celebrating but because of the lockdown restrictions, we can’t do anything. However, he will be instrumental in the upcoming album.
The group is working hard to put together the next album. When everything gets back to normal we will be announcing the dates of release.</blockquote>
Esteem Communication director Takemore Mazuruse said Zaka Zaka’s return was good news for Macheso’s fans and would be a guarantee to exciting compositions from the group. He said:

Prominent Harare Lawyer, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a> has questioned the content of a grade 5 textbook under the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/New_Education_Curriculum_Zimbabwe">new curriculum.</a>
Taking it to Twitter, Mahere captioned a photo that labels Alick Macheso, Sugar Sugar and Beverly as dancers in Zimbabwe and further label, Chris Brown, Shakira and Beyonce as international dancers with this statement:

Legendary Sungura musician <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Alick Macheso</a> has officially handed over a new classroom block which he built for his former school, Enterprise Primary in Shamva.
Macheso built the school in partnership with Enhanced Mortgage and House of Africa where he is currently a brand ambassador.
Zimbabwe Red Cross Society Secretary General Maxwell Phiri joined Macheso during the event, with musicians Freeman, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Selmor_Mtukudzi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Selmor Mtukudzi</a>, Simon Mutambi and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Progress_Chipfumo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Progress Chipfumo</a> entertaining pupils, teachers and guests at the ceremony held that was held this week.
Writing on microblogging site Twitter after the colourful event, <a href="https://twitter.com/alickmacheso3/status/1237860624094433280?s=20" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Macheso said</a>:

Sungura Maestro <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a> yesterday handed over a classroom block that he and Zimbabwe Red Cross Society built for his former school Enterprise Primary in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Shamva">Shamva</a>.

The Sungura maestro, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a> will this weekend during shows sample songs from his upcoming album, The Herald reports.
This was revealed by his manager Tich Makahamadze who spoke to the publication and said:
<blockquote>This weekend we will be performing new songs that are still in the making as we prepare for another album. We are yet to record our album, so at this point we are not yet giving away information on what it entails or when it will be released.</blockquote>
Macheso will perform at  Club Manake in Ruwa before sharing the stage with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Allan_Chimbetu">Allan Chimbetu</a> at Warren Park 1 Bar tomorrow evening according to the publication.

Macheso To Sample Upcoming Album's New Songs This Weekend

Munodawafa, the brother of keyboard wizard and Zodzo hitmaker, Munyaradzi Munodawafa has topped the Radio Zim Coca Cola top 50 chart.
We present below a video of him doing a rendition of Alick Macheso’s song Ndakakutadzireiko on a keyboard at one of the hostels at the University of Zimbabwe.
John told this publication that he has two albums Ndidzivirirei and Mwari Vanoshamisa, produced in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Born in a family of great musicians, John had to learn to play the piano, on his own, at a very tender age.
John would sometimes be punished for playing the piano at Margaret Hugo (Copota) school but he did not give up his dream.
He continued practising until he reached a point when he would be invited to perform at various Church Conferences and that’s when he decided to have a feeling of the studio.
The 23-year-old musician is currently a student at the University of Zimbabwe.
