The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has criticised ZANU PF for alleged political indoctrination of learners amid reports that they are being forced to participate in the ruling party’s political events.
Earlier this week, hundreds of learners across the country missed lessons after they were reportedly forced to take part in anti-sanctions marches.
ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure said learners should be in class preparing for examinations and not being abused by politicians. Said Masaraure:

The ruling party is disrupting learners when they are supposed to be preparing for examinations; this is the same government that is presiding over examination leaks and a serious education crisis.
It is sad to note that the learners being abused are the sons and daughters of working people.
The sons and daughters of the abusers are insulated in elite private schools and exotic learning centres.
</blockquote>
The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) claimed that ZANU PF directed schools in Harare to mobilise pupils to take part in ant-sanctions marches on 25 October.
However, speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200002614/zanu-pf-politicising-education">NewsDay</a>, Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro denied that pupils were forced to march against sanctions. He said:

We have not ordered anyone, but its common cause that civic education on the matter has taken root, and its beginning to strongly espouse Unesco`s definition that children should be educated to become clear-thinking and enlightened citizens who participate in their society’s decisions.
Therefore, as we embrace our curriculum, it follows that without coercion, schools are bent on voluntarily holding anti-sanction events and expressing the impact they have on their society.

"ZANU PF Abusing Children Of The Poor"

A member of the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch, R-Idaho, has outlined what Zimbabwe needs to do for sanctions to be removed.
In 2021, the U.S. government passed the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZDERA) in response to alleged human rights violations.
Under the law, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury instructed the U.S. executive director of each international financial institution to “oppose and vote against” any extension by the respective institution of any loan credit, or guarantee to the Government of Zimbabwe.
ZDERA also bars U.S. officials from supporting any cancellation or reduction of indebtedness owed by the Government of Zimbabwe to the United States or any international financial institution.
Posting on Twitter on Wednesday, Senator Risch said the sanctions will only be removed after the Government of Zimbabwe embarks on genuine democratic reforms and stops abusing its citizens. <a href="https://twitter.com/SenateForeign/status/1585328354009395200">He said</a>:

On 25 October, now the SADC Anti-sanctions Day, the government sponsored anti-sanctions marches across the country calling for the removal of the restrictions.
The Chairperson of SADC, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who is the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, also issued a statement calling for the lifting of all sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

United States Senator Says Anti-sanctions Marches Are A Waste Of Time

The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has condemned the politicisation of education after ZANU PF and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education reportedly assigned teachers to mobilise learners for anti-sanctions marches on Tuesday, 25 October.
In a statement, ZPP said it was regrettable that learners were made to abandon lessons and take part in the march at a time some of them are writing public examinations. ZPP said:

ZPP reports that the ruling party ZANU PF has mobilised pupils from different schools in Harare to convene for an anti-sanctions march and exhibition at Moffat Primary School in Arcadia, Harare. 
The activity is being engineered by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
Some teachers across the province have been assigned to mobilise pupils to do arts, particularly poetry, drama, and traditional dances during the anti-sanctions campaign.
This is in violation of Section 75 (a) of the Constitution which states that all citizens and permanent residents of Zimbabwe have a right to education.
This is also during the time students are sitting for their final examinations. ZPP condemns the politicisation of the education system.

ZANU PF acting secretary for Administration <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Chinamasa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Patrick Chinamasa</a> said that the Anti-Sanctions Day, as set by SADC, will now be an annual event.
Speaking in an interview with The Herald, Chinamasa the Day will be held annually until the sanctions are removed. He said:
<blockquote>We remain under sanctions and the Anti-Sanctions Day is going to be an annual event to demand the lifting of those sanctions because until those sanctions are lifted, we cannot expect a normal economy because the sanctions are excluding Zimbabwe from access to international capital markets.</blockquote>
Last year the government held an anti-sanctions rally at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Sports_Stadium" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Sports Stadium</a> in Harare on 25 October to call for the lifting of sanctions.
Zimbabwe has been under some economic restrictions from Western countries, particularly the United States of America, Britain and The European Union following violent farm seizures at the turn of the Millenium.

Anti-Sanctions Day To Become An Annual Event

War veterans in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Masvingo province</a> are considering expelling the association’s provincial secretary for lands, Faster Gono from the structures.
Gono, a former army captain and sugarcane farmer, reportedly urged the government to deal with corruption which is the country’s number one enemy rather than focusing on anti-sanctions marches. Gono is reported to have said:
<blockquote>Zimbabweans could have merged the march with some form of anti-corruption advocacy to drive home the idea that all corrupt individuals must be arrested.
… corruption is our number one enemy which should be eradicated first before we talk of sanctions.</blockquote>
An unnamed war veteran told NewZimbabwe.com that Gono should be expelled from the structures and be stripped of everything that he got through Zanu PF as he has become a traitor to the liberation movement.
The ruling <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ZANU PF</a> party has of late been blaming all the country’s economic problems on sanctions and went as far as declaring an Anti-sanctions national holiday on October 25.

War Veterans Leader In Trouble For Downplaying Effects Of Sanctions

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo is reportedly pleading with Western diplomats over his threats to USA ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols.
Zim Live founder, Mduduzi Mathuthu posted on Twitter saying:
<blockquote>SB Moyo has been pleading his case with western diplomats, says he didn’t write that statement on US ambassador but received it from Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office to read.</blockquote>

Moyo had in a statement threatened to take action against <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/31/full-text-were-tolerant-not-weak-zimbabwe-tells-usa/">Nichols over alleged violation of diplomats’ code of conduct</a> specified under international law.
Nichols had commented on Zimbabwe’s anti-sanctions march saying that Zimbabwe was barking at the wrong tree since the real cause of the economic demise was corruption in the country.

"ED's Office Gave Me The Statement" As SB Moyo "Pleads With Western Diplomats"

The <a href="https://twitter.com/SenateForeign/status/1190298832040611840">United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations</a> on Friday backed the US ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government threatened to expel him for alleged political meddling.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo had <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/31/full-text-were-tolerant-not-weak-zimbabwe-tells-usa/">threatened the diplomat after Nichols</a> commented on Zimbabwe’s anti-sanctions march saying that corruption was the real cause of the country’s economic demise contrary to claims by the government that sanctions had triggered the collapse.
Posting on microblogging site, Twitter this Friday, the US Senate committee chaired by Senator Jim Risch (Republican-Idaho) said:
<blockquote>The US is deeply committed to the people of Zimbabwe. Ambassador Nichols set the record straight that culpability for Zimbabwe’s dire economic situation rests with its leaders, provided the truth about sanctions, and reiterated our strong and lasting commitment to a free and open Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
The development comes when the Mnangagwa-led administration has been pushing its re-engagement agenda following two decades of isolation.
The Western community has since indicated that political reforms were a prerequisite for reengagement saying that they wanted Mnangagwa’s administration to depart from former late president Robert Mugabe’s violation of human rights.

USA Senate Responds To Zim Attacks On Ambassador Nichols

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sibusiso Moyo has responded to remarks that were made by USA Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols over sanctions saying that he was testing the patience of the Zimbabwean government. We present Moyo’s full statement below.
<blockquote>PRESS STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE ON THE RECENT CONDUCT AND STATEMENTS OF THE AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
The unfortunate statement made by the US Ambassador on the occasion of the SADC Anti-Zimbabwe Sanctions Day on 25 October, exhibited a clear contravention of acceptable diplomatic etiquette, was grossly partisan in nature, and reflected not only a worrying lack of respect for the Host Government but was also abusive of the hospitality of the people of Zimbabwe as a whole.
Compounding these statements was the wholly unjustified imposition of US sanctions on the Honourable Owen Ncube, Minister of State Security Whilst we are a welcoming, extremely tolerant and friendly people, it would be a mistake for these qualities to be misinterpreted by any diplomat to mean that we are weak or that we will simply ignore or tolerate any form of insult or abuse.
International law helps us to draw a line between the functions which a diplomatic mission may exercise and those that it may not.
Furthermore, it establishes that, as sovereign nations, all countries in the world enjoy equal rights and protection. The legal functions of a diplomatic mission permitted under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (Article 3) include:
<ul>
<li>Representation of the sending State in the receiving State:</li>
<li>Protecting in the receiving State the interests of the sending State and of its nationals, within the limits permitted by international law;</li>
<li>Negotiating with the Government of the receiving State;</li>
<li>Ascertaining by all lawful means conditions and developments in the receiving State and reporting thereon to the Government of the sending State, and</li>
<li>Promoting friendly relations between the sending State and the receiving State, and developing their economic, cultural and scientific relations.</li>
</ul>
Clearly, the Convention does not permit Embassies to conduct themselves like opposition citadels, pre-occupying themselves with the constant casting of aspersions, innuendo and even insults at the Host Government.
In fact, the Convention (Article 41) places a two-fold duty on diplomats in that they:
<ul>
<li>Have to respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State; and</li>
<li>Should not interfere in the internal affairs of that State.</li>
</ul>
It follows, therefore, that the conduct of any diplomat which is openly inimical to the promotion of friendly relations is far removed from the core objectives of the Convention and cannot simply be ignored.
Any conduct which violates the generally accepted and legally recognised functions of diplomats constitutes an abuse of diplomatic privilege.
Moreover, no diplomat, let alone an Ambassador, should allow themselves to behave or to conduct themselves like some kind of Opposition member, with complete disregard for all norms of permissible diplomatic protocol.
The constant portrayal as a fact of what are mostly largely unsubstantiated allegations or even rumours, often still being investigated or process 212 law-enforcement or other Agencies of Government, is unacceptable.
Persistent behaviour of this nature will test the patience of even the most tolerant amongst us. It would be a very sad day if the dialogue between the US Embassy and this Ministry, and Government more broadly, were to 
collapse completely under its present leadership, such that we would end up just ignoring or even avoiding each other.
We genuinely seek dialogue with all well-meaning countries as part of our re-engagement efforts. But our openness and the innate generosity of spirit of all Zimbabweans should not be taken for granted and should certainly not be abused.
We have the means to bring all of this to an end, should we deem it necessary or should we be pushed too far.

The October 25 anti-sanctions march has been described as a huge strategic blunder on the part of President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> as it will likely harden the United States of America’s stance towards Zimbabwe.
Observers who spoke to the Daily News said that the sanctioning of Zimbabwe’s security minister, Owen Ncube, a few hours after an anti-sanctions rally at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Sports_Stadium" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Sports Stadium</a> could be the beginning of the end of Zimbabwe’s much-needed restoration of its cool relations with the US and the European Union.
The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Government_of_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">government of Zimbabwe</a> chose the slippery path of confrontation by denouncing the US as the author of all the country’s economic and social problems.
The US ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols, spent the greater part of the day trolling the government of Zimbabwe on social media, something which did not go down well with Harare.
Earlier in the week, Nichols had been interviewed by a local media mogul, where he absolved his country of the allegations of destroying Zimbabwe’s economy through economic sanctions.
In fact, Nichols went on the offensive, saying that corruption and the lack of socio-economic and political reforms, as well as human rights abuses, are Zimbabwe’s Achilles heel.

'Anti-sanctions March Was A Strategic Blunder'

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Government_of_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">government of Zimbabwe</a> has taken America’s ambassador <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Brian_Nichols" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Brian Nichols</a> to task over his highly critical statements leading to, and during last Friday’s anti-sanctions marches held across the country.
Harare was incensed by Ambassador Nichols, not only for his statements but also for the United States government’s decision to sanction Zimbabwe’s security minister barely 24 hours after the anti-sanctions march. In an interview with the Daily News on Wednesday, government spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nick_Mangwana" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nick Mangwana</a> said:
<blockquote>The government will engage with all diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe in a diplomatic way, in accordance with accepted conventions such as the Vienna Convention.
The government will, therefore, not engage in online trolling of any country as this is not according to accepted diplomatic decorum.</blockquote>
Nichols was busy tweeting on anti-sanctions day, refuting all the allegations directed towards Washington for causing the current economic meltdown in Zimbabwe through sanctions.
A few hours after a poorly-attended rally held at the National Sports Stadium to denounce the US and EU economic restrictions imposed on Zimbabwe, the United States secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced that the American government had placed State Security Minister Owen ‘Mudha’ Ncube on the sanctions list.

United States Ambassador, Nichols Taken To Task For 'Trolling' Zimbabwe

An opinionist in The Zimbabwean has drawn a parallel between the late former President Robert Mugabe and President Mnangagwa and said a dead Mugabe drew a much bigger crown than an alive Mnangagwa.
The writer opined:
<blockquote>….However, what I found most interesting was the undeniable fact that far much more people attended his funeral and body viewing than those who attended his successor’s ‘anti-sanctions march’ – in fact, a dead Mugabe managed to fill a huge stadium (over a period of two consecutive days), in stake contrast to his successor who barely managed to mobilise only a tenth of the 60,000 seater giant National Sports Stadium
in spite of the day being declared a national public holiday, government pouring in $4 million of money that we do not have as a nation, a concerted propaganda onslaught in state media, a hundred free buses and a train to ferry people to the march venue from all corners of the country, reports of rural people being threatened to attend, and free takeaways for each attendee – only an approximate 7,000 people gathered into the giant 60,000 seater stadium.
If we were to make a comparison, when Mugabe passed away a month earlier, notwithstanding his loathed record, far much more people turned up to bid him farewell at another huge Harare stadium – in fact, the venue was filled to be brim on two consecutive days, without provision of any free transport, neither was his death declared a public holiday, nor free food offered or threats issued.
…The people have had enough, and their boycott of the ‘anti-sanctions march’ was their loudest demonstration against the government ever – rather choosing to travel to see a dead president than a living one</blockquote>

Ngwenya allegedly called for President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa’s</a> arrest for organising last Friday’s anti-sanctions march while blocking police officers from carrying their lawful duties. Part of the court papers read:
<blockquote>On their way, they met accused one (Ngwena) and two (Chikuni) who were in their vehicle, a Toyota Prado, green in colour, parked near the Marondera Municipality offices.
Accused one then shouted to the police officers saying, Mapurisa munopenga munosunga vanhu vanotambura, endai munosunga Emmerson ari busy kuita anti-sanction (You police are crazy, you are arresting poor people, go and arrest Emmerson who is organising anti-sanctions marches).</blockquote>
On October 23 this year, Ngwena (38) and Chikuni (34) forced the three police officers to release a hawker, Patrick Chabvata, who had been arrested for illegal vending.
The two are represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, a member of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Lawyers_for_Human_Rights" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)</a>. They were released on $100 bail and will be back in court on November 11, 2019.

'Go, Arrest Mnangagwa' Slur Lands MDC Councillor In Trouble

According to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Lawyers_for_Human_Rights" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)</a>, two people were arrested over “offensive” comments that they made about last Friday’s anti-sanctions march.
They were charged with undermining police authority and defeating or obstructing the course of justice. Below is a full statement by ZLHR:
<blockquote>TWO people were on Monday 28 October 2019 set free after they were arrested and charged with undermining police authority and defeating or obstructing the course of justice for allegedly passing on some offensive comments about the anti-sanction march organised by the government last week.
ZRP officers arrested Charles Ngwena, the Councillor for Ward 4 in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marondera" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Marondera</a> Central constituency and Paul Chikuni, a municipal police officer employed by Marondera Municipality on Saturday 26 October 2019 and charged them with undermining police authority as defined in Section 177(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act or alternatively with defeating or obstructing the course of justice as defined in Section 184(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Prosecutors told Marondera Magistrate Patience Chirimo that Ngwena and Chikuni, who were represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, undermined police authority when he questioned why the ZRP officers were arresting some vendors who were struggling to make ends and yet they were not bothered about apprehending President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> whose government organised an anti-sanctions protest last week.
Ngwena reportedly uttered the following words; “Mapurisa munopenga munosunga vanhu vanotambura endai munosunga Emmerson ari busy kuita ma anti-sanctions” which was translated to mean “Police you are mad. You are arresting poor people. Go and arrest Emmerson who is organising anti-sanctions”.
On the charge of defeating or obstructing the course of justice, prosecutors accused Ngwena and Chikuni of hindering three ZRP officers from executing their duties when they grabbed a pushcart containing some bananas and which belongs to Patrick Chabvata, a vendor and pushed it away.
The incident reportedly took place near Marondera Municipality offices as the ZRP officers were escorting Chabvata to Marondera Police Station after arresting him for illegal vending.
Prosecutors claimed that an altercation ensued between Ngwena, Chikuni and the three police officers and this attracted members of the public who gathered around the scene resulting in the law enforcement agents leaving the scene fearing for their safety.
Ngwena and Chikuni, prosecutors charged, had no right to act in the manner they did.
Magistrate Chirimo granted $100 bail each to Ngwena and Chikuni and ordered them to continue residing at their given residential addresses and not to interfere with State witnesses until the matter is finalised.
The duo returns to court on Monday 11 November 2019, where their trial is expected to commence.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe Cabinet has during the 38th session made a number of resolutions including the need to rehabilitate infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Idai. Cabinet also resolved that four boreholes have to be drilled in each constituency using money from the Ministry of Land Agriculture and Water under the Water Fund.
Also noted the Russia-Africa summit gave President Emmerson Mnangagwa an opportunity to advertise Zimbabwe to potential investors who were gathered at the event held in Russia.

The leader of the opposition MDC, advocate Nelson Chamisa has said that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/25/pictures-anti-sanctions-rally-flops-as-thousands-stay-away-from-nss/">the low turnout at the Friday Anti-Sanctions March</a> was indicative of the diminishing support base for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF.
Zimbabwe marched on 25 October after <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/08/19/sadc-proclaims-october-25-zimbabwe-anti-sanctions-day/">SADC leaders had set the day aside for the anti-sanctions campaign</a> by member countries who jointly called upon Western countries to lift sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe since the turn of the millennium for alleged human rights abuses. Chamisa said:
<blockquote>There was a big sign in the stadium. If Mnangagwa is choosing to ignore this sign, he will be victim, like the biblical Pharaoh.
He (Mnangagwa) can come with Sadc to roll out a false war, but the message was huge and only an ignorant and arrogant leader can ignore that. But, I know him; wisdom is not his regular visitor due to arrogance and ignorance and arrogance are twins.</blockquote>
The march did not yield the intended objectives as the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/26/usa-adds-another-zimbabwe-govt-official-on-sanctions-list-hours-after-anti-sanctions-march/">defiant USA added another government official onto the sanctions list barely hours after the march.</a>
The European Union and the United States of America have since <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/28/anti-sanctions-campaigns-wont-divert-attention-on-the-situation-on-the-ground-eu-usa-speak-on-sanctions/">urged the Zimbabwean government to implement reforms</a> which they said are the only way the sanctions can be removed.

WATCH: "Tell Your Brothers To Lift Sanctions On Zimbabwe," Man Throws Bricks At Cars

The European Union and the United States of America have said that the Anti-Sanctions March which Zimbabwe embarked on last Friday is not enough for them to lift the sanctions they imposed on the country.
The urged Zimbabwe to implement reforms saying that was the only way of ensuring the removal of sanctions. Seeking to Hstv on Friday, EU ambassador to Zimbabwe Timo Olkkonen said:
<blockquote>(The) EU is looking at what is on the ground, what is the actual situation on the ground and these are the kind of issues that can come into play for us to lift the sanctions.
Lifting of the sanctions is not decided on street marches or social media campaigns; this will not divert attention on the situation on the ground. Frankly speaking, there are a lot of other issues challenging Zimbabweans that would warrant attention than the EU restrictive measures.</blockquote>
The Anti-Sanctions march came after SADC leaders <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/08/19/sadc-proclaims-october-25-zimbabwe-anti-sanctions-day/">declared the 25th of October</a> a day for member states to call for the removal of sanctions.
Days before the sanctions, president Emmerson Mnangagwa said that the anti-sanctions march’s main objective was to make those who <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/23/whether-something-will-come-out-of-it-or-not-ed-speaks-on-anti-sanctions-march/">imposed sanctions know that citizens were against them</a>.

"Anti-Sanctions Campaigns Won't Divert Attention On The Situation On The Ground," EU & USA Speak On Sanctions

Kenneth Mtata, the secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, has dismissed social media reports suggesting that he participated in the march against sanctions on Zimbabwe by the United States and other Western states.
Mtata told <a href="http://www.zimmorningpost.com/">Zim Morning Post</a> on Friday that he was in support of the march against sanctions imposed by the US and its allies on the country from 2001. He said:
<blockquote>Our position on sanctions has not changed. We maintain that the government should act responsibly.</blockquote>
<div>Mtata said that sanctions have to be removed, but, at the same time, the Government of Zimbabwe must also work towards enhancing democracy in the country.</div>

Whilst the government insists that sanctions have to be lifted as they have caused “untold suffering to the general populace”, the opposition MDC, on the other hand, argues that sanctions must only be removed when the government has stopped abusing human rights.</div>

"Our Position On Sanctions Has Not Changed", Churches

Analysts that spoke to the Daily News in the wake of the SADC Anti sanctions day have all said the current admin risk being slapped with more sanctions if they don’t implement the much-needed reforms.
This came after the US added <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Owen_Ncube">Owen Ncube</a> to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/26/owen-ncube-to-be-put-under-us-sanctions/">the list of travel embargoed Zimbabweans hours after the anti-sanctions march.</a>
Analysts that spoke to the Daily News said:
<blockquote>It shows that patience with Mnangagwa is running out 
and that he has squandered the goodwill and hope that the West had held out for him. As the country’s economic collapse continues, and unfortunately for Zimbabweans, the Mnangagwa regime which is devoid of popular support and legitimacy will likely turn more and more towards violence and coercion rather than persuasion – McDonald Lewanika</blockquote>
<blockquote>The response of the Ameri- cans is guided by their foreign policy and law. Re-engagement is dead in the water as of now. Their message is simply that ‘change your behaviour’. Zidera (the US sanctions law on Harare, the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Re- covery Amendment Act of 2018) speaks to requirements in the 2013 Constitution which they are insisting must be followed. – Eldred Masunungure
The sanctioning of Ncube, on top of (former Presidential Guard commander Anselem) Sanyatwe, demonstrates that the honeymoon for Mnangagwa’s administration is over and that there will be consequences, at least from the US, for individu- als engaged in egregious behav- iour. ED And ZANU Risk Being Slapped With More Sanctions If They Dont Implement The Much Needed Reforms - Analysts

ZANU PF MP, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Energy_Mutodi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Energy Mutodi</a>, who represents <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Goromonzi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Goromonzi</a> West in the National Assembly has boasted that the ruling party will add 2 million more votes in 2023.
Mutodi was responding to MDC Standing Committee member <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/David_Coltart" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">David Coltart</a> who had implied that ZANU PF wins elections through fraud after it failed to attract a sizeable crowd for the 25 October Anti-Sanctions march despited giving people free chicken and chips. Writing on Twitter, Mutodi said:
<blockquote>Voters do not stay at the National sports, Mr Coltart. They stay in the countryside in communal areas and farms.
Our land reform benefited at least 300, 000 families, assuming each family has 10 members it’s already 3m votes. Wait and see 2023 we will be adding 2 million more votes.</blockquote>
However, Coltart refused to take the jab lying down. He responded by telling Mutodi that people don’t actually vote for ZANU PF but the party “adds” the votes. Wrote Coltart:
<blockquote>ZANU PF has never been prepared to give farmers title because then you won’t be able to control and threaten them.
You are correct in saying you will “add 2 million” voters – as you did in 2018. They didn’t actually vote for ZANU PF, they were just added to the final tally.
But your electoral fraud has now been exposed and you will not be able to just “add” votes when the next election is held.</blockquote>

Coltart, Mutodi Clash Over 'ZANU PF Will Add 2 Million Votes' Remark

The government intends to have a “permanent” Anti-sanctions Day on 25 October of every year until the United States of America and European Union sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe are removed.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Deputy Information minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Energy_Mutodi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Energy Mutodi</a> also argued that Zimbabwe will not require Western aid if sanctions are removed. He said:
<blockquote>25 October is an annual event which we are going to be holding and our diplomatic missions will be working flat-out to get these sanctions removed.
The US, Britain and their allies come with aid to us yet that aid was not going to be necessary if there were no sanctions.</blockquote>
The day was set aside by regional leaders at the 39th <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Southern_African_Development_Community" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Southern African Development Community (SADC)</a> summit held in Tanzania in August.
All members states were expected to collectively call for the unconditional removal of the sanctions.

Mutodi: October 25 To Become An Annual Event

The President during the anti-sanctions day speech took the time to commend the EU for their initiative towards re-engagement.
The president said:
<blockquote>Allow me to acknowledge and commend the European Union for taking some initial, positive steps towards responding to our offer for dialogue and friendship.
The EU has begun progressively removing the sanctions that it imposed on us, thereby allowing us to access some development assistance under the European Development Fund</blockquote>
The EU has always maintained that sanctions<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/03/28/eu-diplomat-dismisses-claims-sanctions-hurt-ordinary-people/"> imposed on Zimbabwe don’t harm the ordinary Zimbabwean as they only affect 5 individuals and include an arms embargo</a>.

Let Me Commend the European Union For Taking Some Initial, Positive Steps Towards Responding To Our Offer For Dialogue - ED

A member of the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/26/dr-noah-noah-manyikas-statement-on-failed-anti-sanctions-march-full-text/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Presidential Advisory Council (PAC)</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Shingi_Munyeza" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Shingi Munyeza</a>, said that bad governance and corruption, among other vices, have to go if Zimbabwe is to succeed.
Speaking to the Daily News on Friday, the clergyman revealed that he is not a fan of marches and prefers dialogue instead. He said:
<blockquote>I believe that bad governance, corruption, lack of constitutionalism and state capture are also sanctions and must go if we are to succeed as a nation.
… While it is a person’s democratic right to march, I personally do not believe in marches. I believe in dialogue and engagement and that is why I did not go to the (National Sports) stadium.</blockquote>
Hundreds of citizens bussed from different parts of the country converged at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Sports_Stadium" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Sports Stadium</a> on Friday for an Anti-Sanctions rally.
Similar rallies were held across Zimbabwe with crowds, however, disappointing.

ED's Advisor Attacks State Capture, Corruption & Bad Governance

The MDC Youth Assembly says it is not surprising that Friday’s anti-sanctions march failed.
Spokesperson, Stephen Chuma, is of the view that Zimbabweans are currently facing a myriad of challenges and did not have time for a charade. He said:
<blockquote>It is not surprising that the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zanu PF</a> so-called anti-sanctions march flopped. Zimbabweans are currently faced with problems like electricity outages, high prices, and water shortages hence their choice to stay away from this non-event.
It is very clear that the anti-sanctions rhetoric represents a pie in the sky and is meant to chlorinate (President) <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa’s</a> failed leadership. Unfortunately, it did not yield the desired results.</blockquote>
Despite several months of building up to the SADC-initiated Anti-sanctions Day, fewer people than expected across the country bothered to attend the marches.
At the 39th SADC Summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Heads of State and Government set aside the 25th of October 2019 as a day to collectively call for the removal of the US and EU sanctions on Zimbabwe.

It's Not Surprising That Anti-sanctions 'Charade' Failed - MDC Youths

Earlier this week, the organizers of the anti-sanctions march announced that the 25th of October 2019 would be a historic day.
They were right. Today was a historic day, but not for the reasons they thought. It wasn’t because of an earth-shaking turnout by desperately poor Zimbabweans in support of the march. As we all know, that didn’t materialize.
It wasn’t because the leaders of the western world, seeing millions of Africans thronging the streets of the capitals of SADCC countries in support of the Harare regime, were induced by the fear of Africa’s wrath to convene emergency meetings to remove the sanctions.
Instead, it was because of the simple act of letting E.D. and his Zanu(PF) bullies have the empty <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Sports_Stadium" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Sports Stadium</a> to themselves.
Zimbabweans took that big, bold, and necessary first step towards their total liberation, the kind that sends a shiver down the spine of every bully by simply denying <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zanu(PF)</a> the legitimizing presence and forced applause of their victims.
Nothing worries bullies more than being ignored. Nothing scares them more than their victims no longer being afraid of their threats.
They may not say so, but the echo of each word E.D. spoke in that empty stadium put more fear in the hearts of E.D’s people and those who defend this monstrous regime than any threat from anyone in the opposition.
In that empty stadium, they could hear their own madness clearly without the interference of the crowd.
They saw that Zimbabweans understand that economic emancipation cannot happen without rejecting Zanu(PF) and E.D.’s Neanderthal politics and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mthuli_Ncube" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mthuli Ncube’s</a> voodoo economics.
They drove away from that stadium knowing that they are not always going to be in power, that there are some things Zimbabwean people will not let them get away with, and that in life and politics there is no such thing as eternal impunity.
Earlier this year, I hand-delivered a letter to E.D. at State House where I let him know it was the people in his own circle that would bring him to his own ruin.
Since the November 2017 coup, we have watched him and his regime squander the amazing amount of goodwill it had been extended by the people of Zimbabwe and the international community faster than anyone could say “E.D. Pfee.”
No President has been on a faster track to be crowned Africa’s worst leader than our very own. No leader stubbornly refuses to learn the free lessons of history more than he does.
The end of such regimes and such leaders is never good, not because of the sinister hand of any “Third Force” but because of the perfect storms of circumstances, delusional leaders create for themselves and which invariably swallow them up.
Zanu(PF) leaders poison themselves daily with the lethal ideological concoctions they brew in the cauldron of self-deception, corruption and incompetence.
Professors and clergymen and women and diaspora Zimbabweans who underestimate the power of this witches brew to impair their reasoning and compromise their character drink it at their own peril.
E.D. Mnangagwa owes the people of Zimbabwe one act of statesmanship which unfortunately he has so far not demonstrated he is capable of.
The hope of every Zimbabwean is that the empty stadium might have induced a moment of lucidity that would convince him that the country is worth saving more than Zanu(PF), and that if a stalwart of apartheid-like F.W. De Klerk could steer South Africa to democracy, he too can be the champion of the transition our country must make now to total emancipation.
Unfortunately after listening to President Mnangagwa’s latest performance at the National Sports Stadium, (including the “Ngazviyende! Zviyende! Zvigoyenda! Ngazvibviswe! Zvigobviswa! Zvigobviswa! Dr Noah Noah Manyika's Statement On 'Failed' Anti-sanctions March {Full Text}

Hundreds of people who braved the blazing heat to march to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Sports_Stadium" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Sports Stadium</a> on Friday morning seemed to have had their hearts set on food rather than the anti-sanctions programme.
A crowd stayed outside the giant stadium to get food handouts even after the presidential motorcade had arrived. An elderly woman, who received fried chips, chicken and Pepsi as the rest of the marchers, said:
<blockquote>This is a great day, I last ate Chicken Slice many years ago because of the cost, but today, because the President has called us to march against sanctions, we are eating the meat. Everything is good now.</blockquote>
A Harare South resident who identified himself as Munyaradzi Chitima said sanctions mean high fuel prices since Zimbabwe has to buy fuel at higher prices than other countries.

Anti-sanctions March 'All About Chips, Chicken & Pepsi'

The much-hyped anti-sanctions march was a huge failure if the number of people who took part is to be used as the yardstick.
People in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mashonaland_Central" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mashonaland Central</a> province were reportedly threatened with sanctions if they did not board free buses to travel to Harare for the march. A Mvurwi resident who spoke to NewsDay had this to say:
<blockquote>We were 32 passengers on the bus from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mvurwi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mvurwi</a>, but the second bus only had seven people on board.
We were being threatened with being denied inputs for this year’s agricultural season if we failed to come to Harare for the anti-sanctions march.</blockquote>
The 25th of October was set aside by regional organisation, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to collectively call for the removal of economic restrictions imposed on several Zimbabwean government officials and entities by Western powers.
In Beitbridge, about 1 000 members of South Africa’s ruling party, the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/African_National_Congress" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">African National Congress (ANC)</a> gathered in Beitbridge for a solidarity rally.
