The initial results of Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections are being reported, indicating that Richard Tsvangirai of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has defeated the incumbent independent Member of Parliament, Temba Mliswa, in Norton.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is currently in the process of verifying and consolidating results in various regions.
Caston Matewu, the CCC Member of Parliament for Marondera Central, has claimed his re-election through a social media announcement.

Zimbabwe 2023 Elections: Results Trickle In, Mliswa Loses To Tsvangirai

Misheck Manyere, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Marondera Central parliamentary candidate, has announced that he will not withdraw from the upcoming elections despite the party’s official endorsement of Caston Matewu as the candidate.
Manyere who is also Ward 5 councillor successfully filed his nomination papers under CCC, despite the party’s leadership endorsing Matewu. Manyere has also been seen mobilising resources for his campaign. He told Marondera’s State of Streets Address (SOSA):

I successfully filed my papers under CCC and that will stand.
</blockquote>
However, the Nelson Chamisa-led <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/06/26/ccc-sues-41-fraudulent-candidates/">party has denounced 41 candidates</a> who registered to participate in the upcoming elections under the party’s name without authorisation. The party has filed criminal charges and appealed to the Electoral Court. The 41 unauthorised candidates include 20 who filed nomination papers for National Assembly seats and 21 who filed for local authority seats.
The CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, has stated that the party will not proceed with civil and criminal proceedings if the fraudulent candidates withdraw their candidature within 24 hours.
Some of the “fraudulent” candidates <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/06/23/ccc-official-i-won-polls-but-didnt-make-official-party-list/">claim that they won</a> in the party’s selection process to determine Parliamentary and council candidates. However, they were ultimately not included on the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/06/22/full-list-ccc-parliamentary-candidates-2023-elections/">official party list</a>.
However, some of them have accepted the candidates that the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">party leadership</a> has chosen to represent the party.

CCC Parliamentary Candidate Refuses To Withdraw From Elections Defying Party Order

The ZANU PF Mashonaland East provincial leadership has reversed the suspension of the provincial deputy secretary for legal affairs, Cleopas Kundiona.
Kundiona was suspended on 4 March from carrying out party activities after being accused of snubbing events organised by ZANU PF Marondera Central candidate for the March 26 by-elections Ignatius Mateveke.
He had also been ordered to appear before a disciplinary committee on 25 March to answer to several allegations.
The move to suspend Kundiona, however, was not well-received by some ZANU PF supporters in the province who threatened a protest vote.
Kundiona Monday confirmed to NewsDay that he had been reinstated. He said:

I am back at the party. We are focusing on winning the Marondera Central seat, hence we are mobilising support for the party candidate.
</blockquote>
Kundiona lost to Maveteke in the Marondera Central ZANU PF primary elections but he was still expected to campaign for his rival.
The Marondera Central National Assembly seat fell vacant following the recall of  Caston Matewu (MDC Alliance) by the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora.

ZANU PF Reinstates Suspended Official

ZANU PF’s Mashonaland East provincial executive has suspended party official and UMAA Group of Colleges owner Cleopas Kundiona for failing to avail himself during party programmes.
Kundiona lost the ZANU PF primary elections to Ignatius Mateveke for the Marondera Central constituency which became vacant after the MDC-T recalled Caston Matewu (MDC Alliance‎)‎.
Despite losing the primary poll to his rival, Kundiona was still expected to help campaign for him and fund his campaign.
In a letter dated 4 March 2022, ZANU PF provincial vice-chairperson Kudzai Majuru said:

You were seen in the constituency moving and campaigning for the MDC candidates and you failed to avail yourself for the party programmes without real cause.
</blockquote>

ZANU PF Suspends Kundiona For Shunning Rival's Rallies

Former MDC Alliance legislator for Marondera Central, Caston Matewu has said he was paid an equivalent of US$40 as terminal benefits.
Matewu was recalled from Parliament in October 2020 by the MDC-T then led by Thokozani Khupe. 
Matewu posted a copy of a letter from the Public Service Commission which notified him of the payment of his terminal benefits. Before attaching the copy of the letter, he said:

Former MP Given US$40 As Terminal Benefits

ZBC News yesterday ran the following story on Proton Bakeries. The publication said Proton is dismissing viral social media reports that the bread manufacturer is <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/07/update-scores-contract-covid-19-at-proton-bread/">shielding COVID-19 positive cases and ordering them</a> to continue working risking the lives of other employees.
Proton reportedly told the national broadcaster that only 30 out of 1000 employees tested positive for COVID-19 and they were in self-isolation.
This came after social media including <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/13/full-text-boycott-proton-bread-over-covid-19-ex-mp/">EX Marondera MP Caston Matewu started urging</a> people to boycott Proton Bakeries’ bread until they dealt with alleged the COVID-19 case at their bakery.

It is disheartening to note that over 40 wokers at Proton Bakeries have contracted Covid 19 and yet the bakery still operates like nothing has happened.
I have been talking to various employees who say that they are still told to come to shifts and do thier jobs despite the spread of the pandemic at the workplace. Worse still most of these workers have not been tested. The senior managers are given risk allowance whilst the rest of the workers suffer. This is an indictment of corporate greed.
When a company puts profits over saving lives then you know there is something fundamentally wrong with their Directors.
Proton must immediately shut down thier plant for a week and allow ALL workers to be tested and disinfect all work stations. I will be promptly writing to the Ministry of Health and the local Provincial Medical Director PMD about the situation at one of our biggest companies.
By allowing Proton Bakeries to remain open they are now the biggest Covid 19 super spreader in our Town. The hundreds of people employed at the bakeries interact with thier families and the rest of the Marondera community therefore they have the propensity to diffuse this disease to the rest of the town.
I humbly plead with Proton Bakeries to do the right thing before the residents take it upon themselves to act.

Thokozani Khupe is reportedly planning to recall prominent MDC Alliance MPs including Nelson Chamisa’s Deputy Lynette Karenyi-Kore, New Zimbabwe reports. Recall letters signed by Douglas Mwonzora the MDC T’s Secretary-General have already been sent to the Speaker of Parliament according to the publication.
The publication claims it has leaked correspondence between the MCD T National Executive Committee in its possession which according to the publication states that:

Khupe Planning To Recall Chamisa's VP, Prince Dubeko Sibanda, Matewu, Makoni And Gonese - Report

The MDC Alliance leadership has nullified Marondera Mayor Chengetai Marowa’s suspension on the basis that it was unconstitutional, Newsday reports.
Marowa had been suspended by some party district leaders for his alleged ties to Thokozani Khupe’s faction. The MDC Alliance released a statement declaring his suspension null and void and stating their reasons for doing so. The statement reads in part:
<blockquote>We want to put it clear that the mayor of Marondera, his worship Chengetai Murowa is not suspended as reported. He is not suspended as councillor, mayor or party member. The said suspension as reported is dubious, flimsy and void. Our party’s construction is very clear on disciplinary procedures.
Murowa is a member of the provincial executive and national council and in this case, cannot be suspended by a lower structure such as the constituency co-ordinating committee. All our councillors in Marondera subscribe to the leadership of MDC-A, the party that sponsored them during the 2018 harmonised elections.
If there are any other issues of disharmony of some sort the party leadership has got the capacity to unite our family for the good of Marondera residents and rate payers.</blockquote>

In a video posted by firebrand journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, Marondera MP is seen questioning a Croco Motors representative who clearly states that the value of Land Cruisers they supplied and sold the government is $110 000 but Matewu says the government has presented documents that state that they bought the Land Cruisers for $400 000.

The Marondera <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/02/mdc-alliance-mp-in-road-accident/">MP Caston Matewu who was involved in an accident yesterday</a> has spoken about the accident and said he was trying to avoid a car with no number plates speeding towards them when his car veered off the road, The Standard reports.
Matewu spoke to the publication and narrated that after the accident a Zanu PF vehicle was the first to arrive at the scene:
<blockquote>As we drove along Longlands Road, a car with no plates was speeding straight at us so we decided to veer off the road to avoid a direct hit.
Unfortunately, the car went on to hit a tree, and two minutes after the accident, a Zanu PF branded vehicle arrived at the scene carrying people.
Before they got off, a twin cab with soldiers then arrived and then assisted us and called an ambulance.
I want to thank the unnamed army colonel for his help.</blockquote>
According to the legislator, the speeding car disappeared from the scene after the accident. Matewu who is complaining of chest pains is admitted at a private hospital in Marondera.

A Car With No Number Plates Was Speeding Straight Towards Us - MDC MP Speaks About His Accident

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) legislator for Marondera Central legislator Caston Matewu was on Friday night involved in a road accident near Rufaro Dam, about 7km from the central business district.
The accident was confirmed by MDC Alliance Mashonaland East provincial spokesperson, who is also Marondera mayor, Chengetai Murowa who said the cause of the accident is not yet known. He said:
<blockquote>Details are still sketchy, but I confirm that the honourable MP was involved in an accident. He is in a stable condition, although the vehicle was extensively damaged. 
I am currently at the (Marondera Provincial) hospital and I can say there were three people in the car. We are still to get more details of the accident.</blockquote>
NewsDay reports that the 38-year-old legislator travelling from Murewa when his brand new Toyota Fortuner veered off the road, overturned and landed in a bush.
This comes a few months after Matewu survived death by a whisker after gunmen opened fire at his residence in Nyameni.

Marondera MP Caston Matewu has taken to Twitter to narrate how he failed to donate protective gloves to Marondera ZRP as he says he was constantly tossed from one office to another until he gave up.
Matewu Tweeted:

Politics At Play - Marondera MDC MP Narrates How He Failed To Donate Protective Glove To ZRP Marondera

The London Branch of the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has claimed that there was an assassination attempt on Chamisa this Sunday in Marondera.
The party announced the alleged development on twitter but did not reveal who fired the shots. <a href="https://twitter.com/BranchMdc/status/1201116240166768644">The party said:</a>

"Assassination Attempt On Chamisa, Live Shots Hit Precast Wall" - MDC

Independent legislator, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Temba Mliswa</a> had to play the role of peacemaker in Parliament on Friday after ZANU PF and MDC MPs traded insults during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting.
Chegutu West MP (<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dexter_Nduna" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Dexter Nduna</a>) disrupted the meeting that was being chaired by MDC vice president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tendai_Biti" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tendai Biti </a>resulting in accusations of bribery and stage-managing shootings being thrown around between Nduna and Marondera Central MP – Caston Mateu (MDC Alliance). As a mediator, Mliswa said:

Temba Mliswa Calms MPs After Tempers Flare Over 'Legitimacy'

MDC secretary-general, Chalton Hwende said that bullets were fired last night at the House of Marondera MP, Caston Matewu (MDC Alliance).
Writing on Twitter on Thursday, Hwende said that most of the party’s MPs and leaders have been targeted for abduction. He said:

Marondera Central legislator, Caston Matewu (MDC Alliance) came under fire from his councillors last week who accused him of reneging on his promises during the campaign period.
In a full council meeting held in Marondera last week, the councillors took turns to lambast the MP.
However, in an interview with Newsday, Matewu denied that he had reneged on his promises. Speaking about developments that were expected to have been done on stands in Marondera’s Elmswood Farm, Matewu said:
<blockquote>It is a process that involves planning, drawing actual plans, surveying authorisation and finally purchasing of material. We have already started purchasing (material). Such a big project cannot be a sprint, but a proper execution.
No councillor has ever asked me on progress. I am surprised that this was even mentioned in a full council meeting. The issue of the ambulance, I never gave a timeline nor did I put it in writing like all other projects.
I said in time, I will acquire an ambulance for them. Remember I am not even six months into office, I have been consulting residents on a way forward and then effective development can begin. The council needs to focus on service delivery.</blockquote>
