<p><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Reverend <strong><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kenneth_Mtata">Kenneth Mtata</a></strong> has expressed concern over increasing reports on political violence in the country. </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">He said there is a need to find ways to establish and enhance peace, healing and reconciliation in the country. </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">In a Twitter thread posted on Friday, Mtata traced violence to the precolonial era. Ending Violence And Bloodshed In Zimbabwe - Rev Kenneth Mtata

<p>Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) change champion in chief, Nelson Chamisa, on Friday graced the funeral of a murdered party member, Mboneni Ncube’s funeral in Sibomvo village Vungu, Midlands Province.</p>
<p>Ncube was stabbed to death by suspected ZANU PF supporters during a CCC campaign rally at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre in Kwekwe on Sunday afternoon.</p>
<p>Posting on Twitter, Chamisa described Ncube as a great citizen and change champion saying his hope for change is not in vain. He wrote:</p>

<p><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Zimbabwean journalist, <strong><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin%27ono">Hopewell Chin’ono</a></strong>, has accused Chronicle, a state-run publication of lacking journalism ethics after the publication reported that <strong><a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/02/27/ccc-supporter-dies-in-spear-attack-during-kwekwe-rally/">murdered Mbongeni</a></strong> Ncube <strong><a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/03/02/murder-at-ccc-kwekwe-rally-family-says-mbongeni-wasnt-a-ccc-member/">was not a member</a></strong> of the opposition <strong><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a></strong>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Ncube was assaulted by sharp objects at a CCC rally held in Kwekwe on Sunday by suspected ZANU PF members. Some of the suspects were arrested and remanded in custody while some have since been released.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Chronicle reported that its crew visited Ncube’s family residence in Mbizo 9 where relatives allegedly said the deceased was not a member of the <strong><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a></strong>-led party. Future, Mbongeni’s brother is quoted as saying:</span></p>

Chin'ono Responds To Article Saying Murdered Mbongeni Ncube Wasn't A CCC Member

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has condemned the violence that took place at a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally held in Kwekwe on Sunday that resulted in the <strong><a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/02/27/ccc-supporter-dies-in-spear-attack-during-kwekwe-rally/">death of a 35-year-old Mbongeni Ncube.</a></strong> In a statement, the lawyers said:</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">ZIMBABWE Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) strongly condemns the acts of violence that took place at a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) rally on 27 February 2022.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">ZLHR urges everyone to shun political violence and all forms of intolerance towards members of different political parties.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">ZLHR also calls upon Zimbabwean authorities to urgently investigate all incidents of political violence so that perpetrators of the heinous crimes can be held accountable for their actions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">On 27 February 2022, some suspected Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) political party youths meted out violence to supporters of CCC political party, who were gathered for a rally at Mbizo 4 shopping centre, in Kwekwe.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">The violence broke out while the leader of CCC political party, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, was addressing his supporters in an open space at the shopping centre. A number of suspected ZANU PF party followers disguised as CCC party supporters threw stones at the CCC members, injuring several people in the process. A man was stabbed multiple times during the skirmish that ensued and he subsequently lost his life after being admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">The deplorable acts of violence by suspected members of the ruling ZANU PF party are extremely concerning because they threaten Zimbabwe’s democracy and the rule of law. A thriving democracy depends on the respect for the fundamental rights of everyone by all members of society and tolerance towards people who may have differing political views. Violence is also a threat to the peaceful co-existence of all Zimbabwean citizens, regardless of their political opinions, association or background. Violence is also deeply condemned by international law.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">The Constitution of Zimbabwe, in Section 52(a), guarantees everyone the right to be free from all forms of violence. The Constitution, in Section 155, also prescribes that electoral processes must be free from violence. The acts of violence by the suspected ZANU PF party youths flout these constitutional principles. The targeting of CCC party supporters by the ruling party’s supporters also demonstrates the latter’s wanton disregard for the fundamental right to freedom of assembly and association, which is enshrined in Section 58 of the Constitution. The unprovoked attacks on the CCC party supporters by the ZANU PF party youths also infringed the victims’ right to personal security, human dignity and right to life.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">The prosperity of Zimbabwe’s democracy heavily depends upon the successful prevention of these politically-motivated violent acts.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">Therefore, ZLHR calls upon:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">• All members of society to shun political violence and all forms of intolerance towards members of different political parties;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">• Members of the ruling party to condemn and desist from all violent activities;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">• The authorities to urgently investigate the acts of violence that took place at the CCC party rally in Kwekwe so that the perpetrators can be held accountable.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">• The authorities to take concrete measures that are designed to prevent politically-motivated acts of violence from occurring again in the future.</span></p>

FULL TEXT: ZLHR Condemns Acts Of Violence In Kwekwe

<p>Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has claimed that police officers were aware of plans by ZANU PF to cause violence at the opposition party’s rally in Mbizo, Kwekwe on Sunday.</p>
<p>Addressing journalists in Harare on Monday on the Sunday incident, Chamisa said ZRP officers reached out to him on Saturday night to inform him about alleged plans by unnamed senior ZANU PF officials to cause violence at the rally.</p>
<p>Chamisa added that the assailants also attempted to petro-bomb his convoy on his way to Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre where he was scheduled to address thousands of party supporters. He said:</p>

<p>We appreciate the police for their professionalism. We understand how politics is poisoning policing.</p>
<p>The institution of the police is interfered with and tarnished by ZANU PF and works against the integrity of its members.</p>
<p>l have it in good authority that members of ZRP knew of the planned murders as early as the night before because they reached out to me but since the number was unknown I did not attend to the many calls until just before the event happened.</p>
<p>They were unable to take action to prevent the murders because of the institution.</p>
<p>The best these members could do is try to warn us, yet they should have arrested the people beforehand.</p>
<p>In order to emphasise without putting officers in trouble, we need not mention their names.</p>
<p>The police knew of the attack before it happened but because it was ordered by high-level ZANU PF, they were unable to act to prevent the violence.</p>

<p>Twenty-three (23) CCC members suffered injuries and were admitted to different hospitals in Kwekwe.</p>
<p>Mboneni Ncube (35), a small scale miner, lost his life after he was stabbed three times with a sharp object by suspected ZANU PF supporters. He leaves behind a wife and his 8-year-old daughter.</p>

Chamisa Commends ZRP For 'Professionalism'

<p>A leaked Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) memo has revealed that several ZANU PF card-carrying members were among 16 people arrested on Sunday in connection with a violent incident at a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally in Kwekwe that left one person dead.</p>
<p>According to the memo, suspected ZANU PF youths who were involved in the murder of Mboneni Ncube were arrested while hiding at Jessie Gardens, Mbizo 11 Kwekwe.</p>
<p>However, Kennedy Simbi, who is believed to be the main culprit who inflicted the fatal blow on the deceased, was yet to be arrested by Sunday.</p>
<p>The arrested are Takunda Chivenyengwa (21), Isaac Tapfumaneyi (37),  James Jere (28), Musa Matingwende (32), Shepard Mbewu (44), Progress Munyuki (30, Amon Kwachata (50), Edmore Shoshera [Alias Masparrow] (30),  Edmore Shoshera [Alias Masparrow] (30), Albert Maketo Tembo (29), Fraud Munyuki (29), Blessing Tomu (18), Perscy Mukwaturi (38), Sydney Samanyayi (29), Valentine Mandizvidza (21), Mischeck Mutetwa (32) and  Talent Imbayago (28). Part of the memo reads:</p>

<p> On the 27TH day of February 2022 and at Mbizo 4 shopping centre open space Kwekwe, CCC held a campaign rally commencing at around 1000 hours and was scheduled to end at 1600 hours.</p>
<p>At around 1400 hours, whilst Nelson Chamisa was addressing the gathering, suspected ZANU PF youths wearing yellow T-shirts infiltrated the meeting which was held in an open space and one of them threw a stone into the gathering and ran away.</p>
<p>Towards the end of Nelson Chamisa‘s address suspected ZANU PF youths intercepted people in CCC T-shirts who were walking to the rally and threw stones on them.</p>
<p>The skirmishes, about 400 metres from the venue, resulted in the deceased being stabbed thrice with a sharp object on the back and died whilst admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.</p>
<p>The injured are admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital and Topomasi Hospital in a serious condition namely Wilson Maseko (28) NR: Unknown of 13611/1 Extension, Mbizo, Kwekwe- he sustained cuts on the head, Isaac Chagonda (50) NR 63-783150K 27 of 11511/9 Mbizo, Kwekwe- he sustained a deep cut on the back, Vincent Sithole (28) NR: 53-2880964Q13 of 679/9 Mbizo, Kwekwe- he sustained cut on the back, Onias Mavhaya (37) NR unknown of 13366/1 Extension Mbizo, Kwekwe- he suffered two broken ribs, Mutwetwa Mudzengi (73) NR unknown of 1205/16 Mbizo, Kwekwe- he sustained dislocated hip and Langton Dube (60) NR unknown of 2644/9 Mbizo, Kwekwe who sustained head injuries. Also injured was Justice Chakanetsa (36) NR 47-179313L37 of ZRP Main Camp, Kwekwe- he sustains swollen hands.</p>
<p>During the clashes, three motor vehicles were damaged, a blue Honda Fit registration number AEQ6375, owned by Tinevimbo Zhou NR 26-128168D26 of 25553/12 Mbizo Kwekwe (damaged rear screen), a white Mitsubishi Canter truck with no registration plates and owner not yet known (had all 6 tyres deflated), and a Toyota Vios registration number AET 0792 owned by Emma Nyika NR 63-112466R32 aged 42 of 7845/1 Mbizo, Kwekwe (rear left window damaged). The vehicles were parked at the shopping centre some 200 metres from the venue.</p>
<p><strong>INVESTIGATIONS CARRIED OUT:</strong><br/>
Police reacted to the scene and got information that the accused persons were hiding at Jessie Gardens, Mbizo 11 Kwekwe, which is about 1km from the venue where they raided and arrested the accused persons mentioned above.</p>
<p>Three motor vehicles were recovered at Jessie Gardens where the accused were hiding. Searches were made in a silver Mercedes Benz AFK 6958 owned by accused 12. Inside the vehicle were three unbranded yellow T” shirts, one yellow bottom, one black trousers and one sjambok.</p>
<p>Recovered inside a black Honda Fit AFC 3464 owned by accused number 16, was one machete, and inside a white Toyota Chaser registration number ACK 0756 (owner not established) were one machete wrapped with red cloth on the handle, one homemade knife with a green handle, two catapults, two small catapult stones, one Tecno cell phone, one Nokia cell phone, one gold scale and two black and green caps inscribed ED.</p>
<p>The above motor vehicles have since been impounded and are parked at ZRP Mbizo.<br/>
Five of the accused persons are detained at ZRP Kwekwe Central DB 351-355/22. <br/>
The other eleven accused persons are detained at ZRP Mbizo under DB 344-354/22.</p>
<p><strong>OUTSTANDING</strong><br/>
 To arrest Kennedy Simbi who is believed to be the main culprit who inflicted the fatal blow on the deceased.<br/>
 To refer the deceased for postmortem.<br/>
 To verify the registered owners of the recovered motor vehicles.<br/>
Investigations are in progress under ZRP Mbizo RRB Numbers 4878031-4878038.</p>

Police Confirm ZANU PF Members Murdered CCC Supporter At Kwekwe Rally

<p>A Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter died following a spear attack by suspected ZANU PF activists in Kwekwe on Sunday afternoon. 17 more were injured during the mayhem.</p>

CCC Supporter Dies In Spear Attack During Kwekwe Rally

<p>Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba has accused the ruling ZANU PF of instigating a mob attack on the party’s supporters during a campaign rally in Kwekwe on Sunday afternoon.</p>
<p>Unknown assailants armed with machetes and stones stormed a CCC campaign rally at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre and interrupted the party’s president Nelson Chamisa’s speech.</p>
<p>Speaking in response to the attack, Siziba urged CCC supporters to remain calm saying, “It’s a difficult path, but that’s the path to change.”</p>
