With less than two months to go before the August 23 general elections, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has adopted a ward-to-ward campaign approach. This involves CCC representatives visiting each ward in their constituencies to engage with residents, understand their concerns, and discuss potential solutions.
A senior official of CCC, Felix Mafa, stated that the approach would provide the opposition party with a nuanced understanding of the issues faced by different communities, enabling them to tailor the party’s policies accordingly. Mafa said:

We believe in the power of local communities and the importance of understanding their unique challenges and opportunities. Our ward-to-ward campaign strategy is a reflection of this belief.
We want to ensure that every voice is heard and that our policies reflect the needs and aspirations of the people we serve. We are confident that our ward-to-ward campaign will enable us to build connections with our constituents and deliver policies that reflect their needs and aspirations.

Kuwadzana East legislator, Chalton Hwende, stated that the move was also aimed at drumming up support for the opposition. Hwende said:

Just finished our door-to-door exercise in Kuwadzana East. We visited over 200 households. Our target is to ensure that we visit every household in the constituency so that we allow every potential voter to meet face-to-face with our candidates.

Some Political analysts believe that the ward-to-ward campaign could potentially strengthen CCC’s position in the upcoming elections by focusing on local issues and engaging directly with voters, building stronger relationships with communities, and gaining a better understanding of the issues that matter most to them. CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa, has also been on a whirlwind countrywide tour, meeting cluster leaders in rural areas.
This approach comes as the party’s national campaign launch which was scheduled for the 9th of July in Bindura was not sanctioned by police over the CCC’s alleged failure to meet minimum requirements.

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) recently published the names of its parliamentary candidates who have filed their nominations across the country on Wednesday. Notably, the final list excluded several veterans, ensuring new faces in the upcoming parliament following the general elections on August 23.
According to the leader of CCC, Nelson Chamisa, the party has selected the most competent individuals to lead the country’s recovery. The CCC initiated the process of selecting their candidates in April but faced criticism for delaying the announcement of the winners until the sitting of the nomination courts. FULL LIST: CCC Parliamentary Candidates For 2023 Elections

Members of the National Assembly in Zimbabwe have demanded answers from Finance and Economic Development Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mthuli_Ncube/">Mthuli Ncube</a> over the country’s escalating inflation and collapsing local currency. They claim that these issues have eroded the salaries of government workers. This comes as soldiers and police officers received salaries this month ranging from $25,000 to $68,000, which is insufficient even to purchase a dozen loaves of bread.
Legislators have been demanding a ministerial statement from Ncube for the past few weeks. They accuse Ncube of focusing on his political campaigns in the Cowdray Park constituency in Bulawayo, where he hopes to secure a seat in Parliament. Lawmakers have called for the suspension of parliamentary sessions until Ncube addresses the issue of civil servants’ salaries and price increases.
In his submissions in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kuwadzana East legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chalton_Hwende/">Chalton Hwende</a> (Citizens Coalition for Change) said:

Last week, we appealed for Ncube to come here and speak about the issue of civil servants salaries and increases of prices in shops.
You asked that we show how salaries are pegged. When we talked last week, people had not yet started receiving their salaries.
(On Monday) soldiers and police officers started getting their money and some are still receiving it now.

He presented payslips revealing that police officers and soldiers received salaries from May indicating that their salaries had been eroded by the depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar to the extent that they can only buy one full chicken and 1kg of meat at OK supermarket in Kuwadzana.
Kambuzuma legislator Willias Madzimure said that they have the right to ask the Executive to answer important national issues. He added that it has been three weeks since Minister Ncube was asked to address the National Assembly. Madzimure explained that when a minister is asked to speak, they must ask for permission, but Ncube did not do that last week, which means he is not in a position to respond.
Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has demanded that Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube be summoned to Parliament to explain how he paid unbudgeted US$400,000 to each of the country’s judges. Mliswa expressed concern about the lack of information surrounding the controversial windfall, which he said portrayed the current Zimbabwe administration as a bunch of looters. The judges, who are expected to play a significant role in determining election-related disputes in the coming months, were awarded the unsolicited fortune by the Emmerson Mnangagwa-led government as housing loans. Mliswa also questioned similar payments made to CIO directors, Cabinet ministers, deputies, and MPs.
Zimbabwe’s economy has been deteriorating rapidly, with prices of goods and services soaring beyond the reach of most public and private sector workers. The salaries paid to these workers in the local currency have remained largely unchanged, exacerbating the situation.

Zimbabwean MPs Demand Answers From Finance Minister As Inflation Rises

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators expressed concerns about the biased coverage of State-controlled media, particularly the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), during general elections.
During a meeting to discuss the Electoral Amendment Bill, the CCC MPs suggested that the bill should further bind State media to be impartial in the pre-and post-election periods. However, Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi argued that ZBC should not be constrained by laws and should be allowed to operate freely, like any other media house. He claimed that the issue of ZBC being singled out for impartial coverage had fallen away due to the advent of technology and the presence of several media houses. He said:
<blockquote>
I also agree that the issue of ZBC being singled out to be impartial, we now have several media houses. I think that has fallen away because of technology and the times that we are in, it is not necessary to single out the State media during elections.
There are several media houses and because of the advent of technology, there is no prejudice whatsoever. ZBC should be allowed to behave like any other media house according to their way of working. They should not be constrained to the rules set up by ZEC.
</blockquote>
Charlton Hwende responded to Ziyambi saying ZBC is funded by taxpayers’ money and should, therefore, provide fair coverage to all political parties. He said:
<blockquote>
On journalists, we are happy that you are also agreeing but the issue of ZBC, I do not understand your logic because the reason why ZBC is being singled out is because it is funded by taxpayers’ money.
The reason why it is funded by taxpayers’ money is precisely for them to cover all political parties, kwete zvenyu zvamunoita zvekuti (not what you are saying that) ZBC is only covering ZANU PF. They are not covering all other political parties and so forth.

According to the Electoral Act, ZBC and other public broadcasters and state-controlled media houses are required to provide equal coverage to participating political parties. However, State media has been accused of failing to comply with the Electoral Act during past elections.

CCC MPs Express Concern Over Biased State-controlled Media Coverage During Elections

The Government has rejected calls by the opposition to pay farmers for their produce exclusively in United States dollars.
Speaking during a Question and Answer session on Wednesday, Kuwadzana East MP Chalton Hwende (CCC) asked the Government to consider paying farmers in USD to enable them to buy inputs for next season. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200011744/dump-the-failed-zimdollar-mps">Said Hwende</a>:
<blockquote>
The RTGS will not enable these farmers to buy inputs for the next cropping season.
Why is the government not considering paying them in United States dollars for all their produce just like what is being done beyond the borders?
Right now, the government is paying farmers RTGS and expects them to go to shops where prices are being inflated.
</blockquote>
In response, Justice, Parliamentary and Legal Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is also the leader of Government business in Parliament, said the Government will not abandon the Zimbabwe dollar. He said:
<blockquote>
Honourable Hwende is in other words encouraging government not to pay in RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement), but in US dollars. The truth is that we cannot stop paying farmers in RTGS.
We cannot, therefore, say we are no longer paying in RTGS. We cannot dump the RTGS because it has lost value and we adopt another currency.
That is not possible. We have to promote our own currency if we want to control our own economy.
We can only put measures to control and stabilise the inflation rate on the parallel market.

Last month, the Government announced that grain farmers will be paid at US$368 per metric tonne.
US$200 will be in foreign currency and the remaining US$168 in Zimbabwe dollars at the interbank rate.
When the local currency was reintroduced in June 2019, it was trading at 1:1 with the US dollar but has since fallen to $1 407 on the official auction market and more than $3 000 on the black market.

Govt Rejects Legislators' Call To Pay Farmers Exclusively In US Dollars

CCC interim secretary-general Chalton Hwende has condemned the continued detention of the party’s interim vice chairman Job Sikhala who has been in jail since June this year. He has been denied bail several times.
Sikhala appealed against the dismissal of his bail application at the High Court in a case where he is accused of inciting public violence.
But High Court Judge Justice Samuel Deme said he needs time to study previous judgments made against Sikhala.
According to Hwende, Sikhala’s bail application ruling was suspended indefinitely. Said Hwende:

Hon Job Sikhala’s bail application ruling was suspended indefinitely. Sadly our Judiciary is captured. Bail is a Constitutional right and Job is being punished by his political rivals who have captured the State and judiciary. This is no longer a legal matter but a political matter.
To expect a legal solution to a political problem in my view is wrong. We must examine the political options that we have as a people and exercise our rights to protect ourselves as citizens. This judiciary stole our victory they must not be allowed to steal our FREEDOM.

Sikhala’s co-accused, Chitungwiza North MP Godfrey Sithole (CCC) has since been granted bail.
Sikhala also faces a charge of obstructing the course of justice.

Sikhala's Bail Application Ruling Suspended Indefinitely

Kuwadzana East legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chalton_Hwende">Chalton Hwende</a> (Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)) has withdrawn from the party’s rural mobilisation exercise, citing hostile social media comments from colleagues in the party.
He said he would now concentrate on other arms of the party, according to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200004608/hwende-dumps-ccc-rural-campaign">NewsDay</a>. He is quoted as saying:

 My withdrawal from rural mobilisation is strictly attributed to people who are hostile on social media platforms; not any other reason.

The campaign is meant to encourage citizens to register to vote in numbers for the 2023 polls.

Hwende Withdraws From CCC’s Rural Mobilisation Exercise Citing Hostile Colleagues

Opposition Members of Parliament have expressed frustration over Vice President and Health Minister, Constantino Chiwenga and other Cabinet Ministers’ absence from Parliament.
During the question and answer session on Wednesday, the MPs said various issues have not been addressed due to the absences.
CCC secretary-general Charlton Hwende (Kuwadzana East) told the National Assembly that he was yet to see Chiwenga in the August House since March. He said:

I need clarity regarding the Honourable Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. C. G. D. N. Chiwenga, since I was elected as a Member of Parliament in March, I have never seen him in this House.
We have a lot of issues that we want to ask him concerning the health of the nation.

My question is: is he still the Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care or he is now out of office?

VP Chiwenga's Absence Infuriates Opposition MPs

Senior CCC official, Chalton Hwende, has called for mass protests or political engagement to force the immediate release of Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole, along with 14 other CCC political activists who have been in pre-trial detention for almost three months.
Hwende, who is the former secretary-general of the disbanded MDC Alliance, said if the “Nyatsime 16” are not released from prison soon, they may die. He posted on Twitter:

The situation of our MPs Hon Job Sikhala &amp; Godfrey Sithole, plus the Nyatsime Cdes is very depressing.
If we don’t act, these Cdes will not be released soon and some might even die in detention.
Political prisoners require either mass action or political engagement to be released.

Last week, Sikhala fell sick in his D Class detention cell reserved for dangerous criminals, amid unconfirmed reports he was poisoned.
Meanwhile, National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Lovemore Madhuku, has called for political dialogue between CCC and ZANU PF to ensure the release of the Nyatsime 16.
The two MPS, Sikhala (Zengeza West) and Sithole (Chitungwiza North) and the other 14 CCC activists, were arrested in June after violence broke out in Nyatsime following the abduction and murder of Moreblessing Ali, a local CCC activist.

Hwende Calls For Mass Protests, Political Engagement To Secure Sikhala's Release

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuwadzana East, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chalton_Hwende">Chalton Hwende</a> has claimed that anti-riot police disrupted the party’s citizens’ engagement meeting this Saturday.
Hwende who is the party secretary-general sought to also celebrate his triumph at the March 26 by-elections.
He said some party members were arrested even though police had been notified of the meeting.
The move follows similar incidents in Gokwe, Marondera and Chegutu before the by-elections in which CCC dominated. He said:

Opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> for Kuwadzana East <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chalton_Hwende">Charlton Hwende</a> was Wednesday ejected from the August house after insisting that more time should be allocated to debate the US$344 million Pomona Waste to Energy deal.
Hwende and his colleagues in the opposition were demanding to know why the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/07/11/minister-directs-hcc-to-immediately-rescind-resolutions-seeking-to-suspend-pomona-waste-project/">minister was acting like a debt collector</a> on behalf of a private company.
The opposition-controlled Harare City Council has rejected the US$344 million contract awarded to a Netherlands-based company fronted in Zimbabwe by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dilesh_Nguwaya">Dilesh Nguwaya</a> who is said to have close relations with the first family.
The deal requires the council to pay Geogenix B.V US$22 000 per day and the bill has already reached US$780 000 with the local government minister recently writing to the council, directing payment to the company.

CCC MP Ejected From Parliament In Row Over Pomona Waste Project

The Secretary-General of the newly-formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Chalton Hwende has dismissed reports saying he was abducted on Saturday, February 2022.
A message circulating on social media suggested that Hwende was abducted by 3 suspected state security agents with AK47 rifles at Makoni Shopping Center where he was conducting a voter registration mobilization campaign. Pindula News presents the message posted by one Malvern Dengu @HumanRights112:

Responding to the message, Hwende said it was a fake distress call. He said:

My daughter has just informed me that there is a message circulating alleging that I have been abducted. This is false l have been freely moving around constituencies in Harare monitoring voter registration. The focus is on getting 6 million votes for Nelson Chamisa.

This comes as there are unresolved cases in which some opposition leaders and some human rights activists claimed that they were abducted by suspected state security agents.
The state denies any involvement and argues that the said kidnappings are staged to soil the image of the government.

CCC SG Chalton Hwende Denies Abductions Reports

Police Sunday arrested scores of MDC Alliance supporters in Mabvuku, Harare, and blocked a rally to celebrate the party’s 22 years in existence.
MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende confirmed the arrests of at least 15 party supporters who attended the event which he was scheduled to address.
Hwende described it as “effectively banning the opposition” by the regime after the rally was stopped by the police despite having given them notice of the gathering. Hwende said:

I was supposed to address the meeting only to be told that the police have blocked the event and arrested our party supporters.
They insisted the meeting will not take place, despite the fact that we had booked and notified them.
This regime has banned the MDC Alliance, first by working with some elements to recall our MPs and councillors, then taking over our headquarters.

He said it was unfortunate that the MDC Alliance was being treated as a banned outfit in Zimbabwe. In a statement on Sunday, the party said:

This afternoon, [police] violently disrupted our Anniversary celebrations in Mabvuku. More than 50 were arrested and detained at Mabvuku Police Station. Several members and supporters have been badly injured.

The party’s leader, Nelson Chamisa was recently attacked by suspected ZANU-PF supporters and suspected State security agents during his provincial tours. 
The ban on the MDC Alliance meeting comes as President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been crossing the country’s provinces and holding rallies that were attended by thousands of ZANU PF supporters. 
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he would check on the arrests.

Police Arrest MDC Alliance Members At A Blocked Rally

MDC Alliance Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende, has claimed that President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa (ED) offered millions of dollars, gold and other gifts to the opposition MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa, allegedly to destroy the party.
Hwende did not state when this happened. Posting on social media, Hwende said MDC Alliance leaders, however, rejected the offer. He said:

We have our own shortcomings as opposition leaders and human beings but President Morgan Tsvangirai taught us one thing: To Never Sell Out The People’s Struggle.
ED offered us millions of USD$, cars, offices, farms and gold mines in order for him to destroy the MDC Alliance but we refused. After the refusal, he has gone after every business and employment opportunity that comes our way and the system has ensured that genuine opposition leaders don’t get any employment or business.
They have made it even difficult for our party to get a lease agreement to rent a place to stay or even open a bank account. But we march on until victory!

His remarks come as President Mnangagwa last week handed over 19 brand new Isuzu cabs to principals of the Political Actors’ Dialogue, a forum initiated by Mnangagwa in 2018 for presidential candidates in the 2018 presidential election.
Some argue that the vehicles were meant to influence the politicians and will affect their objectivity.
MDC Alliance refused to join the forum arguing that nothing useful was to come out of POLAD, a platform the party said was created to legitimise Mnangagwa’s rule and endorse the disputed 2018 elections.
POLAD was formed after calls for national dialogue to put an end to economic, humanitarian and political crises that were reportedly being worsened by the deadlock between MDC Alliance and ZANU PF.
Hwende’s remarks also come amid allegations that MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonora is a ZANU PF agent mandated with neutralising and if necessary destroy the opposition.
MDC-T dismiss the allegations as lies by their rivals who want to taint the party’s image.

Hwende: ED Offered MDC Alliance Millions Of USD$, Cars

The MDC Alliance has claimed credit for the improved uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations by members of the public over past few days.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 48 391 people received the first dose on Friday, while the figures were 59 872, 45 184 and 63 059 on Thursday, Wednesday, and Tuesday respectively.
MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende claimed on Friday that it was through the efforts of his party that vaccine hesitancy has been eradicated. He said:
Statistics show that the number of Zimbabweans who were vaccinated increased significantly this week following a sustained campaign by the MDC Alliance leadership encouraging citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
However, reports indicate that there has been a stampede for vaccines across the country for over a month now since the onset of the COVID-19 third wave.

MDC-A Claims Credit For Improved Uptake Of COVID-19 Vaccines

High Court judge, Justice Pasirayi Kwenda has dismissed with costs a bid by recalled MPs to be reinstated in Parliament.
Former MPs Charlton Hwende, Prosper Mutseyami, Thabitha Khumalo, and Senator Lilian Timveos, now a Zanu PF member, had sought an order that sets aside their recall by the MDC-T.
The four had argued that the Speaker of Parliament and the President of the Senate blundered in removing them as lawmakers on the basis of a letter written by Douglas Mwonzora who was Secretary-General of MDC-T then.
Following a March 30, 2020, Supreme Court judgment that said Nelson Chamisa had illegally succeeded founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai, MDC-T has recalled dozens of MDC Alliance councillors and legislators arguing that they had ceased to be members of the party that gave them the ticket into elections.
The court declared Thokozani Khupe, who contested the 2018 polls as MDC-T leader, the rightful heir, prompting a sustained recall spree targeting MDC Alliance legislators who stuck with Chamisa.
The purge continued even after Khuphe was toppled by Mwonzora.
The four lawmakers had maintained in their application that they ran and won the July 2018 elections on an MDC Alliance ticket and could not, therefore, be said to be members of the MDC-T, whose members they beat in the polls.
On the other hand, MDC-T says it is the party that joined the 7-party alliance in 2017, therefore, had a right to recall councillors or MPs who were claiming to be members of another party.
Some observers, however, accuse MDC-T of being used by the ruling ZANU PF to destabilise the opposition.

High Court Dismisses Recalled MPs Reinstatement Bid

Parliament has approached the High Court seeking to recover a motor vehicle granted to MDC Alliance MP Chalton Hwende during his time in office.
Alternatively, Parliament wants an order compelling Hwende to repay the US$55 000 loan that was advanced to him under the government vehicle loan facility agreement.
Parliament initially approached the court in March with similar summons against 20 recalled MDC MPs demanding that they return the motor vehicles granted to them or alternatively pay back the US$50 000 loans.
The summons state that Hwende entered into a loan agreement with the government during his time in office which saw the Parliament advancing him the funds for the purchase of a motor vehicle. Read the summons:
<blockquote>On or about the 25th of July 2019, and at Harare, the plaintiff (Parliament) and the defendant (Hwende) entered into a vehicle loan facility agreement in terms of which the plaintiff lent and advanced to the defendant a sum of US$55 000 for the purchase of a motor vehicle.
The following were … the express terms of the said agreement…that…the plaintiff would advance a loan to the defendant for the purchase of a motor vehicle.
In the event of the defendant ceasing to be a MP…for any of the reasons outlined in…the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the agreement would terminate and the plaintiff would be entitled to repossess the motor vehicle or claim the full balance of the loan and any other sums payable under the agreement.
At the time of the termination of the agreement, the total amount due, owing and payable to the plaintiff was a sum of US$50 000 since the defendants had not paid anything towards the loan.
By reason of the said termination of the agreement, the defendants are obliged to return the motor vehicles to the plaintiff or to pay the outstanding loan in the sum of US$50 000 or the equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars, using the official rate obtained on the date of payment.
Despite demand, the defendants have failed, neglected or refused to return the motor vehicles or pay the aforementioned sum,” Parliament further stated.</blockquote>
Hwende was recalled from Parliament on May 5, 2020, and he has reportedly been refusing to stand by the conditions of the agreement and was refusing to return the motor vehicle.
The MDC Alliance Secretary-General is yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Parliament Moves To Recover Vehicle From Hwende

MDC-A national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said secretary-general Chalton Hwende has not been suspended from the party but is on pre-planned leave.
In a statement on Wednesday, MDC-A Secretary for Presidential affairs, Jameson Timba revealed that party president Nelson Chamisa had appointed David Chimhini as the Acting Secretary-General in Hwende’s absence.
Timba, however, did not reveal Hwende’s whereabouts or even when he will return to assume his duties and this raised a few eyebrows, with some people speculating that Hwende had fallen out of favour with Chamisa.
In a tweet this Thursday evening, Mahere said there are no plans to suspend Hwende. In fact, his colleagues are looking forward to his return within the next two weeks. Said Mahere:

Fadzayi Mahere Clears Air On Hwende's Absence

MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa has appointed David Chimhini as the Acting Secretary-General in Chalton Hwende’s absence.
In a statement on Wednesday, Jameson Timba, the Secretary for Presidential affairs said the appointment was made in terms of the party constitution.
Timba, however, did not reveal Hwende’s whereabouts or even when he will return to assume his duties. He said:
<blockquote>Please be advised that the President has with immediate effect appointed Hon. David Chimhini as the Acting Secretary-General in terms of the Constitution until the return of our Secretary-General, Hon Chalton Hwende.</blockquote>
Hwende has made been in the news recently following former MDC-A senator Lilian Timveos’ defection to ZANU PF.
Timveos accused Hwende of persecuting and sidelining senior party members and hounding her out of the party, embezzling party funds, and destroying the party single-handedly.
Her salvo came after Hwende had claimed that Timveos defected to Zanu PF after making a pact with First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa that will allow her to keep a vehicle she received from Parliament.

Chamisa Appoints Chimhini MDC-A Acting Secretary-General

MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende has castigated the decision by the Zanu PF-led government to evict over 12 000 villagers settled in Chilonga in Chiredzi to pave way for a grass project.
Recently the Government gazetted Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021 for the removal of the Chilonga people in Chiredzi from their ancestral home to pave way for a dairy company, Dendairy to run a lucerne grass farming project.
In remarks posted on social media, Hwende described the country’s ruling elite as callous and selfish. He wrote:
<blockquote>The latest decision by the ZANU PF government through its Local Government Minister July Moyo to evict over 12 000 villagers settled in Chilonga in Chiredzi to pave way for a grass project meant to feed cattle for a dairy company is the clearest demonstration of the callousness and selfishness of the political elites running our country.
What makes the directive by July Moyo even more inhuman is that it does not provide the evicted villagers with alternative resettlement options.</blockquote>
Hwende further alleged that Dendairy is a company linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The former Kuwadzana East legislator noted that this is not the first time that the Zanu PF government has evicted innocent villagers from their land to pave way for private capital ventures.
He cited evictions in Chisumbanje, Chingwizi, and Chiadzwa as the other incidents showing that the government has scant regard for people when they are in the way of private capital. Added Hwende:
<blockquote>These forced evictions must be condemned by all right-thinking Zimbabweans. We will take all the necessary action to protect the affected villagers’ dignity, livelihoods and right to land.
ZANU PF’s prebendalism, patronage and cronyism must be challenged. Only an unelected and illegitimate government can give preferential treatment to cows ahead of its people.</blockquote>

Hwende Criticises 'Callous' Zanu PF For Evicting 12 000 Chiredzi Villagers

MDC Alliance sources have alleged that the party’s Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende is targeting the party’s senior members among them Job Sikhala and Thabita Khumalo whom he is said to have removed from WhatsApp groups.
The sources told The Standard that Hwende who works in cahoots with a group consisting of MDC Alliance organising secretary Amos Chibaya, deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo, youth leader Obey Sithole, deputy secretary-general Happymore Chidziva, and Harare Central MP Murisi Zvizwai is frustrating the old guard in the hope that they leave the party.
The sources said Hwende’s group which is close to Chamisa, was targeting deputy national chairman Job Sikhala, vice-president Tendai Biti, treasurer-general David Holtart and national chairperson Thabita Khumalo. Said an anonymous top official:
<blockquote>It is true Hwende has been harassing other members in the standing committee meetings, including removing them from party Whatsapp groups.
But president Chamisa has done nothing to rein them in. There is a general feeling that he is the one sending Hwende to target other leaders.
It is surprising that the party can afford to have internal wars at a time it is facing a fierce war from Zanu PF and MDC-T.
At one time, Ruth Labode was harassed for suggesting that there was need to come up with a new name for the party.
Hwende told her to leave that issue to the president.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Sikhala refused to respond to allegations that he was being targeted by Hwende’s group adding that his removal from the MDC Alliance WhatsApp groups was for security reasons. He said:

I am a member of more than a thousand groups and I don’t even care if I am removed from one group. I don’t have time to look at that</blockquote>
Khumalo, who was also removed from some MDC Alliance groups, refused to comment and referred questions to party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere.

Hwende Trends On Twitter After Lilian Timveos Made Several Claims Against Him

MDC Vice President Welshman Ncube has dismissed rumours that he is planning to leave the MDC Alliance for an international job elsewhere. Ncube used the <a href="https://twitter.com/Welshman_Ncube/status/1364841362584174595">microblogging site Twitter</a> to dismiss the rumours and said they were probably being used to decampaign him.
Said the firebrand politician:
<blockquote>Woke up this morning to the old news (this being recycled decampaign news used in the run up to the Gweru Congress) that I am quitting the MDC Alliance to take up some international job somewhere. Someone somewhere is waging psychological warfare. I am not going anywhere.</blockquote>
When one Twimbos asked about the party deputy’s silence Ncube responded and said party building is often done with closed mouths before he agreed he will take the time to engage with supporters in the future while responding to one Nelson Mrewa.

In the open letter that was written by former MDC Alliance Senator, Lilian Timveos, she insinuated that Douglas Mwonzora and Morgen Komichi might have been frustrated out of the MDC Alliance and went on to join Thokozani Khupe in the court resurrected MDC T.
According to Timveos, Komichi was accused of visiting traditional healers trying to revive Morgan Tsvangirai’s spirit at some point and he was hurt by the accusations:

Hwende is the one who approached Douglas Mwonzora begging him to save his car. I have got more than 5 cars and I am a woman of means, that’s why I never stole party funds which no one knows how it disappeared.
No one in the party knows how the party funds from the political parties Finance Act before given to the MDC T disappeared since the death of the late Morgan Tsvangirai. MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende has responded to MDC-T chairperson Morgen Komichi after the latter bragged of being in control of the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai (MRT) House, formerly Harvest House, the original MDC’s national headquarters.
In a post on Facebook this Thursday, Hwende said at the right time, the MDC Alliance will repossess what rightfully belongs to the people.
Hwende slammed the MDC-T for using violence to take control of MRT House from the MDC Alliance last year.
The former Kuwadzana MP also hit out at Komichi for his remarks to the effect that the MDC-T has commenced a process to stop the Nelson Chamisa-led party from using the MDC Alliance name. Said Hwende:

While giving a speech on the third anniversary of the late MDC founding father Morgan Tsvangirai’s death on Sunday, Komichi said:

We have a legal position which says MDC Alliance is our name. Anyone who is using it is misguided.
We have started the process to stop them from using the name and I cannot tell you our strategies. They must come up with a name of their own.</blockquote>

Hwende Responds To Komichi's Remarks On MRT House

MDC Alliance secretary-general, Chalton Hwende says he is not in politics for money but to help fellow citizens do away with a ruthless system that is destroying the country’s future.
Hwende, who is a close confidante of MDC-A leader Nelson Chamisa, said he declined a salary and other benefits from his party when he landed his current post at the 2019 congress. He wrote on his Facebook page:

Hwende urged the party’s supporters not be distracted, claiming that recalled MDC-A legislators and councillors are busy working on the party’s rural strategy to grow the rural vote.
The former Kuwadzana South legislator runs a SADC region transport logistics business and is a former MDC-T deputy treasurer-general.

Zimbabwean journalist and documentary filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono has questioned some of the appointments made by Nelson Chamisa, the leader of opposition MDC Alliance.
Chin’ono said the appointment of Welshman Ncube to deal with International Relations affairs while Tendai Biti, whom he says is well-connected yonder Zimbabwe, was an oversight on Chamisa’s part. He posted on Twitter:
<blockquote>The appointments of Welshman Ncube in International Relations and Tendai Biti in Policy and Admin haven’t worked.
Ncube lives in Bulawayo where there is no single embassy. Biti is a well known Foreign Affairs expert.
Why not swap them and allow their strengths to come through?</blockquote>
The freelance journalist added that “No Zimbabwean politician has an international contact book as Tendai’s. Welshman is a brilliant administrator, so their appointments are a misplacement”.
MDC Alliance Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende responded by tweeting a list of senior party members and their respective portfolios. He said:
<blockquote>On a point of correction, Prof Ncube is the VP responsible for Finance and Admin. Hon Tendai Biti for Policy and Local Government Hon Lynette K. Kore for Party Building. Prof Ncube also assists on International Relations which is largely located in the Office of our President.</blockquote>
Some social media users said Chin’ono was asking not because he was concerned with the party’s affairs but for publicity purposes, while some accused of being a ZANU PF agent. Below are some of the responses:
