The High Court has ordered former world boxing champion, Charles Manyuchi, to pay US$18,000 in damages to Tapiwa Munyaka, the husband of a woman he impregnated after an adulterous affair.
As reported by <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/boxer-manyuchi-to-pay-us18k-for-impregnating-married-woman-at-gym/">The Mirror</a>, Manyuchi had been training the young, married woman, Chengeto Viola Munyaka, at his gym.
On Tuesday, Justice Zisengwe, sitting in the High Court in Masvingo, granted the damages in a default judgment made in favour of Munyaka.
The affair was uncovered in 2021 when Tapiwa Munyaka, a regional manager at a microfinance bank in Masvingo, went through his wife’s phone and discovered explicit pictures and images documenting the sexual escapades between Manyuchi and his wife.
Munyaka claims that the affair severely damaged his self-esteem and exposed him to sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, as his wife and Manyuchi did not use condoms.
Court documents reveal that Manyuchi’s gym operated out of Flamboyant, a Regency Group hotel in Masvingo, and that Munyaka’s seven-year marriage to Viola has now broken down irreparably.
Ironically, Munyaka had been supportive of his wife’s involvement at Manyuchi’s gym, even accompanying her there.
He also allowed Viola to become one of the faces of Manyuchi’s upcoming boxing matches. Together with a team of Manyuchi’s supporters, Viola would visit various holiday resorts, including Kariba, to celebrate the boxer’s victories. Reads part of Munyaka’s application:

The defendant’s reckless conduct exposed me to the HIV virus and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The fact that he impregnated my wife is clear evidence that he was not having safe sex with my wife. 
The pregnancy exposed me to the danger of looking after children sired by third parties… My self-esteem is now low. I am seriously hurt by defendant’s conduct.

The adultery damages awarded in this case are the highest ever granted by the High Court in Masvingo.
Charles Manyuchi, the former world boxing champion, received a letter of demand from Munyaka in November 2022, but he failed to respond, leading to an application for a default judgment.
Munyaka claimed that his wife, Chengeto, fell pregnant by Manyuchi and had an abortion. He had paid lobola for Chengeto in 2015, and they solemnized their marriage in 2019, having two children together.
Munyaka further alleged that Manyuchi had recorded his sexual encounters with Chengeto and that the affair became widely known among his colleagues, severely affecting his reputation and self-esteem.
Munyaka sought a total of US$50,000 in damages: US$30,000 for consortium (compensation for the impact on relationship, companionship, and support lost) and US$20,000 for contumelia (damages for insulting language or treatment). However, the judge awarded Munyaka US$8,000 for consortium and US$10,000 for contumelia.
The affair reportedly began when the couple joined Manyuchi’s training group in 2021. Munyaka stated that Manyuchi selected Chengeto to participate in advertisements and promotions for his match against Ugandan boxer Mohamed Sebyala.
Munyaka, who was represented by Charles Ndlovu of Ndlovu and Hwacha Legal Practitioners, discovered the affair towards the end of 2021.
Despite sending a letter of demand to Manyuchi in 2022, there was no response or attempt to apologize, suggesting that Manyuchi was unconcerned with the matter’s outcome.
Following Manyuchi’s lack of response to the two-year claim, Munyaka applied for a default judgment last month.
Manyuchi is a former World Boxing Federation (WBF), Global Boxing Union, World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight, and World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) champion.

Zimbabwean champion boxer Charles Manyuchi has decided to move his boxing academy and promotion entity to Zambia, citing astronomical fees that local promoters are having to pay.
In an exclusive interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/manyuchi-relocates-to-zambia/">Zimpapers Sports</a> on Thursday, Manyuchi said that the high fees gazetted by the Zimbabwean government make it difficult to recoup investments from events.
He said the boxing environment in Zimbabwe is not conducive due to these excessive fees, and that it is virtually impossible to make a financial return on hosting boxing tournaments. Said Manyuchi:

The boxing environment in Zimbabwe is not conducive due to the gazetted fees that are way too high to sustain promotions.
There is nothing we can do about it because they have been set and ratified by a higher authority which is the Ministry of Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation.
When, as a promoter, one looks at the benefit they would have derived from hosting a boxing tournament, there is virtually none because, at the end of it all, there is no financial reward to talk about. It’s as good as doing charity work.
So given the current state of things, I do not anticipate putting up any tournaments in Zimbabwe in the foreseeable future because it is expensive to do so.

According to The Herald, Manyuchi has acquired an academy licence, promoter and manager licences, as well as licences for his boxers from Zimbabwe and two Zambians who have recently joined his stable.
The Zambian duo includes Simon Ngoma and Alice Mbewe, previously with Exodus Boxing.
According to receipts from the Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board, Manyuchi paid a total of K1 200, equivalent to US$46, for these licences.
Hosting a boxing event in Zambia requires a US$30 payment, a US$25 ring rental, and US$40 for each referee and judge. Boxers, however, do not have to pay any levy on their earnings.
In contrast, Zimbabwean regulations impose a US$250 promoter licence fee, US$275 for an international tournament sanction, around US$300 for ring rental, and US$80-$100 for referees and judges.
In addition, the Zimbabwean boxing control board deducts 10% of a boxer’s earnings from each match.

He says it's hard to make money from boxing events in Zimbabwe because of these fees. Manyuchi has got licences for his academy and boxers in Zambia, and it's cheaper to host events there. In Zambia, he only paid $46 for licences, while in Zimbabwe, fees are much higher. Manyuchi feels he won't be hosting boxing events in Zimbabwe anytime soon because of the high costs.

"Excessive Fees" Force Charles Manyuchi To Relocate To Zambia

Charles Manyuchi, arguably Zimbabwe’s greatest boxer, is set to end his illustrious career with one final fight against Malawian boxer, Sherif Kasongo, in a World Boxing Federation super-middleweight showdown on May 27.
Dubbed “The Grand Finale,” the fight’s venue has not yet been confirmed, but will be staged in Zimbabwe. He said:

I am glad to be making this announcement but first things first. I have a very big fight ahead of me in which I am going to be defending my WBF belt on May 27 in Zimbabwe. The Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy are promoting this bout and they are still considering the most ideal place to stage the fight given the significance it carries.
The fight has since been dubbed the Grand Finale as I will be exiting the boxing stage after the fight. But I cannot say much at the moment as I am occupied, busy with the modalities of the upcoming fight.
I have to prepare well for this fight. I know the responsibility that I will be carrying on my shoulders. This is going to be my last fight and I should leave the stage with honour and dignity.
That means I will spend most of my time in the coming weeks doing training. I need to spend more time in the gym preparing for the bout.
 I will discuss everything in detail when I have my last fight. I am very happy and I have been very lucky to have tested glory in the ring.
This is a sport that changed me in terms of personality and everything and I should also honour the game.

Two other title fights featuring boxers from the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy will also be held on the same bill. Manyuchi will defend his WBF title, and after the fight, he is scheduled to receive honorary replica belts from all the organisations whose titles he has won. Manyuchi, who has won the ABU, WBC silver, and WBF titles, has a pro record of 25-4-1.

Zimbabwean Boxer Charles Manyuchi Announces Retirement

President Emerson Mnangagwa gave champion boxer <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Charles_Manyuchi">Charles Manyuchi</a> a US$10 000 present following <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/03/manyuchi-beats-sebyala-to-retain-waba-wbf-belts/">his latest victory in defence of the WBF world middleweight title.</a>
Manyuchi beat Ugandan Mahommed Sebyala by unanimous points decision in Masvingo recently.
The victory also earned him two newly inaugurated belts – the WABA World Supreme and the World Professional Boxing Federation titles.
President Mnangagwa congratulated Manyuchi for his success and handed him a cash token of appreciation.
In return, Manyuchi gave the President specially branded souvenirs comprising a boxing belt and a pair of gloves dedicated to the country’s fight against Covid-19.

Zimbabwean international boxer, Charles Manyuchi has beaten Mohammed Sebyala of Ugandan nationality to retain the WABA and WBF belts.
Manyuchi won by a unanimous decision in a contest organised and promoted by the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy (CMBA).
He retained WABA World Supreme and World Professional Boxing Federation titles after claiminga 3-0 win with all the three judges going for the Zimbabwean on 116-110 and an identical 117-109.
The tournament was initially scheduled for March last year but failed to take place because of the coronavirus pandemic.
His latest attempt to defend the titles had also been thrown in turmoil a fortnight ago after the government omitted boxing from the list of sports codes that had been allowed to resume.
Manyuchi was set to be stripped off of the two belts if he had not contested.
Manyuchi, a former WBC silver welterweight champion, has also been preparing hard for this fight since last year and said he would retire from the sport if he lost.
The Masvingo-born returned to the ring for the first time since flooring Argentinian Diego Diaz Gallardo in Harare two years ago to land the WBF belt.
The 30-year-old has been trying hard to work his way back to the top since losing his WBC silver welterweight championship title in March 2017.
Beating Sebyala is part of the plan and his next port of call will be in the United Arab Emirates in August.
No fans were allowed at the venue of the fight.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Charles_Manyuchi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Charles Manyuchi</a> has been given two hours to shed off an excess of 200g to be eligible for the World Boxing Federation middleweight fight against Argentine Diago Gallardo.
The fight between the two is scheduled for the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Harare_International_Conference_Centre" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Harare International Conference Centre</a> this Saturday night.
The Zimbabwean boxer weighed over 72.9 kilogrammes against the middleweight limit of 72.575 kilos.
Manyuchi has to shed the excess weight within two hours and is reported to be undergoing some weight-shedding activities under the supervision of his coach Ali Phiri.

Boxer Charles Manyuchi Given 2 Hours To Lose Excess 200g Weight

Zimbabwean boxer, Charles Manyuchi defeated Rodolfo Pablo Ezequiel Acosta of Argentina with a devastating knockout in the fifth round to win the vacant GBU/UBC middleweight inter-continental titles.
Manyuchi dominated from the first round and Acosta could not contain the onslaught from Manyuchi and finally threw in the towel in the fifth round.
Speaking after his victory, Manyuchi thanked his sponsors who helped him revive his sinking career. He said:
<blockquote>I want to thank all the sponsors, who came in to make my dream of re-launching my career come true.
I always said it’s not over when you lose but it will be over when you quit. It was not easy especially to deal with losing my WBC belt but I stayed focused.
And because of all the sponsors like Timac, NetOne, Delight Credit and many others who stood by me I prevailed once again.
I felt I had too much power over my opponent that’s why I made it. In boxing you can only wait for the opponent but I was prepared for anything and I’m glad I won. 
Manyuchi said next fight will be a WBF world title against Tunisian opponent.
My next step will be fight for the WBF world title in August against an opponent from Tunisia. I just want to keep on working hard going forward. This victory will obviously go a long way in boosting my confidence levels going forward.</blockquote>

Charles Manyuchi In Comfortable Win Against Argentine Boxer

Zimbabwean boxer, Charles Manyuci is reported to be in great form ahead of his fight against Argentine opponent Pablo Ezequiel Acosta on May 25 in Harare. This was revealed by top Zambian boxing trainer Greetings Kaunga.
Manyuchi has been training under Issa and Ali Phiri before they Kaunga joined the team last Wednesday. Kaunga said:
<blockquote>The preparations are going on fine. Charles is looking fit and ready for the match. I am pleased with his condition.
He has been working hard with local trainers and these guys have been doing a fantastic job.
We are only left with 2kgs to shed in the next two weeks so that he fits comfortably into his category.
He is ready. This guys is showing he wants to get back to the heights where he belongs so we expect an interesting fight.</blockquote>

Manyuchi Looking Fit And Ready For The "Restoration Fight" - Trainer

Zimbabwean boxer, Charles Manyuchi, is set to return to the ring when he faces Alejandro Zampedri in an IBF Inter-continental lightweight title match this May in Harare. 
The build-up to the fight begins today with the launch at Gary Thompson and Associates, in Mount Pleasant. The fight is being promoted by Charles Manyuchi Academy while Gary Thompson and Associates and Incorporated Bere will market and raise funds for the fight.  Said Manyuchi:

Zimbabwean boxer Charles Manyuchi lost by a unanimous points decision to Russia’s Magomed Kurbanov in a 10-round international match at the DIVS (Palace of Sport) in Ekaterinberg, Russia, on Sunday night.
Manyuchi, fought the 23-year-old Russian as part of a nine-bout bill put together by RCC Promotions. The Herald could not get an official comment from Manyuchi’s manager, Christopher Malunga. However, Prosper Chibaya who travelled with the boxer said Manyuchi could have been affected by the dry fast he underwent to lose weight. Said Chibaya:
<blockquote>He fought impressively in the first four rounds, but after that he was struggling. I think he lost weight from 83kg to 69kg, and to achieve this he was compelled to undergo dry fasting for close to a week and this must have affected him physically. He was not fit and a bout of stomach upset started after he began eating after the weigh-in.</blockquote>

Charles Manyuchi Loses In Russia

In a statement, Charles Manyuchi’s sponsor Mr T35 announced that they have terminated their boxing sponsorship.
Mr T35 general manager, Martin Beula, cited financial challenges as the reason behind the decision to quit sponsoring the sport. Said Beula:
<blockquote>Mr T35 company would like to notify the Zimbabwe Boxing Board that the company has resolved to quit from boxing sponsorship. We would like to thank the boxing fans for the seven years of support we shared together. We feel we have tried our best to uplift boxing considering all the achievements that we have celebrated and tabled together. We really appreciate the opportunity afforded to us to showcase our passion in sports.</blockquote>
Manyuchi told The Herald, he would not have made it without Mr T35’s support.

Charles Manyuchi's Sponsor Terminates Contract

Charles Manyuchi’s hopes to reclaim the WBC welterweight silver title have been rekindled after the WBC 55th Convention which ran between October 1-6 in Baku, Azerbaijan, declared the title vacant after holder Qudratillo Abduxorov’s camp indicated the Uzbek would no longer be able to defend it. 
This means that the Number One contender on the WBC welterweight ratings, Shawn Potter, will square off with a former super-lightweight, Adrian Proner, and the winner between the two may then fight Manyuchi. Though he had been pushed to a distant 27th on the rankings, Manyuchi got a 15th place slot at the convention that makes him eligible to be a challenger. A WBC source said:
<blockquote>While Clause 5 of their contract stipulates that should Manyuchi lose to Abduxorov, as happened in Singapore, the Zimbabwean would have the chance for a rematch. But it appears the Uzbek’s camp have been changing goalposts and the matter was deliberated at length at the WBC where the president, Mauricio Sulaiman, requested to be furnished with the contract. The title was immediately declared vacant.</blockquote>

Manyuchi gets second chance to reclaim WBC welterweight silver title

Former World Boxing Council welterweight international champion Charles Manyuchi will face Zambian Kasongo Sherrif in a non-title bout at the Zimart Mall in Ndola, Zambia on July 2.
According to Manyuchi’s managers Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions, the tournament is being hosted in Northern Zambia as a way to spread boxing. Manyuchi will be hoping to reclaim his welterweight title when Qudratillo Abduqaxorov takes on Russian Dmitry Mikhaylenko in the WBC silver title decider in Ekatenrinburg on July 10. Reports suggest there is a clause in the contract that was signed between Manyuchi and Qudratillo that gives the Zimbabwean another shot at the title if he fails in the first match.

Manyuchi faces Zambian in non-title match

The management of Charles Manyuchi is threatening to sue anyone who insinuates that the boxer’s match against Qudratillo “Punisher” Abduqahorov was fixed. Manyuchi lost the match<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/03/26/video-charles-manyuchi-loses-wbc-silver-welterweight-title-knocked-first-round/" target="_blank"> after he was knocked out in the first round  in Singapor</a>e. In the process he lost his, WBC World Welterweight (silver) belt to the undefeated Abduqahorov when he was knocked out after just 2 minutes and 55 seconds, leading some to speculate that Manyuchi had been paid to lose the match.
Manyuchi’s manager Chris Malunga of Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) took to social media to address the allegations against his fighter saying:
<blockquote>… I am appealing to you to be very careful with what you are saying.
So all those comments which are coming up are very dangerous to the sport and certain individuals might end having to answer charges in the courts of law because those are serious allegations.
Let’s be very careful with our comments. I know that everyone is at liberty to comment the way they want but certain comments are very false and alarming.</blockquote>

Manyuchi's management threatens to take legal action against people saying that the fight was fixed

Boxer, Charles Manyuchi returned back home yesterday from Singapore where he lost his World Boxing Council welterweight silver title on Saturday, to rising star Qudratillo Abduqaxorov in a match that lasted just two minutes and 56 seconds.
Manyuchi flew from Singapore to his training base in Zambia and drove back home yesterday. However, he refused to comment on the fight stating that he was waiting for his manager, Chris Malunga, who is in Mexico for a title fight with another member of his stable Catherine Phiri.  On Monday, Malunga refuted suggestions circulating on social media that Manyuchi had fixed the match and warned he will take legal action against anyone making those suggestions.

Manyuchi returns from Singapore, refuses to comment on fight

Charles Manyuchi’s management team have also criticised the showboating which cost him the WBC welterweight silver title at the weekend. Manyuchi’s manager Chris Malunga told the Singaporean media that the 27-year-old was “careless” in his approach.
Said Malunga:
<blockquote>The technical approach was a bit bad on our side. Charles was careless. That (the showboating) is his style of fighting, but I felt it was a bit early for him to do that. Good boxers have taken such knockout (defeats) and come back. So it’s a learning process for us.</blockquote>
Malunga also also dismissed stories circulating on social media that the match might have been fixed. Manyuchi, whose record is now 20-3-1, will now need to go back and prepare for a possible rematch with Qudratillo Abduqaxorov. But it is usually not easy to get a rematch and his Zambian stable Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions would need to make an aggressive bid against the Uzbek. Abduqaxorov’s camp has since indicated that he will defend his title against Russian Dmitry Mikhylenko, the man who was defeated by Manyuchi last year for the belt.

Manager criticises Manyuchi for loss in Singapore

Charles Manyuchi relinquished the World Boxing Council silver welterweight title at the OCBC arena in Singapore yesterday, after being knocked out by Qudratillo Abduqaxorov in just two minutes, 52 seconds.
The 27-year-old Zimbabwean boxer had not been defeated since April 2010 but the manner in which Manyuchi fell twice in the first round in Singapore yesterday left more questions than answers. He was comical as usual, exposing his face to the opponent as if to mock Abduqaxorov but a combination of punches from the Uzbekistan boxer sent him to the canvas. You can watch the video here:

Zimbabwe`s World Boxing Council (WBC) silver welterweight champion <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Charles_Manyuchi">Charles Manyuchi</a> has started training in preparation for his title defence match on March 25 next year in Singapore against challenger Qudratilo Abduqaxorov.
The match was sanctioned by he WBC at the just ended convention in Miami, Florida in the United States. Manyuchi is training with his Zambian stable and promoters Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP). Manyuchi will use the March 25 fight to challenge for the WBC welterweight gold title belt formerly held by the retired Floyd Mayweather Jnr but now with Danny Oscar Garcia also of the US.

Manyuchi begins preparations for title defence

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Charles_Manyuchi">Charles Manyuchi</a>‘s Manager, Chris Malunga of Oriental Quarry Boxing Promotions has dismissed media reports that Manyuchi lost his WBC Welterweight Silver Championship title to Russian Dmitry Mikhaylenko after he failed to fight in the stipulated time.
He explained the process that results in a champion losing his title which he said is only created for better opponents waiting for a fight with the champion. Malunga also revealed that he will be travelling to the Miami, USA this week to organize a lucrative match for Manyuchi who is set to fight an Asian opponent in Singapore this year, prior to the Miami fight and urged the media to promote boxing as a sport in the country and help build a legacy through reporting positively about Manyuchi.

Manyuchi dismisses rumours that he lost his WBC Welterweight Silver Championship title to Russian boxer

Boxer, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Charles_Manyuchi">Charles Manyuchi</a> yesterday confirmed to NewsDay that <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Phillip_Chiyangwa">Phillip Chiyangwa</a> and a businessman identified as Munyaradzi had fulfilled their pledges by giving him land in Harare’s low residential areas.
Speaking to NewsDay Manyuchi said,
<blockquote>Chiyangwa gave me a residential stand measuring 1 225 square metres in <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Borrowdale">Borrowdale</a>. He called me a few days after the fight and he showed me the land, and all the paperwork is done. I have the title deeds as we speak. Munyaradzi also gave me a residential stand in Westgate measuring 1 200 square metres and a new car. There are also others, who made their pledges, but are yet to deliver. I know they will keep their promises. I’m happy for these gestures and it should be an encouragement to other upcoming sportspeople that if they work hard, they get rewarded.</blockquote>
<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Harare_City_Council">City of Harare</a> has also promised him another low-density residential stand, which he is set to receive this week while <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Sir_Wicknell">Wicknell Chivayo</a> promised to give Manyuchi money to build a house on the piece of land Chiyangwa had pledged.
Manyuchi next assignment was a rematch against Russian boxer, Dmitry Mikhaylenko for the WBC silver welterweight title on November 18 which has been cancelled. Media reports from the European country show that Mikhaylenko has agreed to fight 42-year-old former champion, American Randall Bailey in a 12-round non-title fight.
