The Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe (AFMOZ), which broke away from the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe a few years ago, is facing a potential split due to clashes between church elders over its constitution, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/chiangwa-led-afm-church-heads-for-split/">H-Metro</a>.
This comes after the church’s president, Reverend Cossum Chiangwa, allegedly amended the constitution without involving other elders in an attempt to remain in power.
The report said the AFM constitution calls for elections every three years to elect a new president and deputy president from among senior pastors.
Chiangwa has been accused by concerned pastors of not paving the way for elections and not adhering to the constitution.
Reports claim that Chiangwa’s tenure has lapsed and he has exceeded the 65-year age cap for one to preside over the church, under its constitution.
On Saturday, Mid North Province members reportedly clashed at a meeting as they tried to find common ground to avoid a possible split in Kadoma.
The resolutions of a meeting held by the Mid North Province dated 24 October, copied to Rev Chiangwa and Rev Mathe, read in part:

As concerned pastors, we feel we are being undermined by the chairman, Rev C Chiangwa, Rev Mathe and Pastor Gutura.
We feel we cannot work in harmony with Rev Mathe and Pastor Gutura unless and until you come and resolve our differences.
We feel a fellowship that commenced at 10 AM to 2 PM on October 23 with Rev Chiangwa, Rev Muhamba, Rev Mutikanhi and all pastors, did not address our concerns objectively, hence it left us more divided than before.
Yet we had hope that our concerns would be heard, but this was far from our hope. We pray that as the executive, you shall be able to help us resolve this long overdue problem.
We are sincerely writing this letter with pain because of what we have been going through since 2019.

Breakaway AFM Church Faces Potential Split

The Apostolic Faith Ministries (AFM) of Zimbabwe led by Reverend Cossam Chiangwa said the task of the church is to preach a wholesome gospel that ministers to all spheres of life.
The pentecostal denomination has a seminar pencilled for 25 March at the AFM of Zimbabwe Faith Alive Church in Westgate from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/standard-style/article/200009029/afm-of-zim-youth-empowerment-drives-goes-gear-up">The Standard</a>, AFM of Zimbabwe Harare West provincial youth leader Pastor Ngonidzashe Chimbwanda urged all young people to attend in their numbers so that they are empowered. He said:

The Westgate edition of the empowerment programme is a step up in that we are going to be more elaborate in terms of the presentations and opportunities so that our young people can have something good to take home.
We are bringing in more speakers in addition to Kamili Investments’ Mandela Katsande, Safety N Us’ Lucia Mutsvedu as well as Sino Truck Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Matsenga.
We want the presentations to be wholesome in terms of coverage and content.

AFM of Zimbabwe Kingdom Live Centre pastor and Harare West province overseer Reverend Panganai Vitalis Makarichi said:

We are running a programme for the youth to empower them because young people must be moulded and shaped into future business people, political leaders and captains of industry.
The programmes seek to identify young people with talent and potential so that we expose them to what is in the marketplace so that they become leaders in politics and in the professional world.
We have challenges with drug abuse and if young people are idle, they will indulge in such.
It’s about giving them something to be productive so that they stay focused and pursue excellence and productivity.

Makarichi said the church’s seminars are “premised on exposing young people to opportunities followed by structured training and nurturing on how they can circumvent challenges as well as manage the failures and successes that are part of every enterprise.” He added:

The purpose of the church is to bring people to Christ but the people you bring to Christ have needs,” he said.
Our aim is to preach a full gospel, not only spiritual but beyond spiritual nourishment also cover educational, professional and physical needs.
We must empower our members to become entrepreneurs or formally employed through career guidance and skills training.
This programme will give them a better appreciation of what the marketplace needs through interaction with those doing it.
We also want to link them with organisations and institutions that can get them funding after challenging them to excel; organisations that can absorb the skill coming out of the training.

AFM Of Zimbabwe Launches "Empowerment Programme" For Youths

The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) of Zimbabwe led by Reverend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Cossam_Chiangwa">Cossam Chiangwa</a> has sent a solidarity message to the president of AFM Malawi following the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/cyclone-freddy-deaths-rise-to-190-in-malawi/">death of hundreds of people</a> in the wake of Cyclone Freddy. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Chiangwa said he was saddened to hear about the loss of life. Reads the statement:

Cyclone Freddy: AFM Of Zimbabwe In Solidarity With AFM Malawi

The president of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM)</a>, Reverend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Amon_Madawo">Amon Madawo</a> Saturday 22 October 2022 said his church was not at war with the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/AFM_of_Zimbabwe">AFM of Zimbabwe</a> led by Reverend Cossam Chiangwa.
AFM of Zimbabwe <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/06/15/afm-president-madawo-moves-to-bar-chiangwa-from-using-name-logo-symbols/">was formed in May 2021</a> after the Chiangwa-led faction <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/28/supreme-court-upholds-high-court-ruling-in-afm-saga/">lost a court case</a> which followed a prolonged leadership wrangle that was triggered by the amendment of the church’s Constitution.
Speaking on Saturday at the Greater Harare Conference held at the Glamis Arena from 21 to 23 October 2022, AFM president, Madawo called for Reconciliation, Healing and Unity amongst members of the church and the nation at large.
He urged church members to desist from “selfish agendas that affect the body of Christ,” adding that every member of the AFM church must act in a way that promotes peace, family unity, and love for the Lord, country, and church.
He also urged the gathering to keep praying for Zimbabwe. He said:

Greater city conferences like this one, are intended to bring about revival, healing and to realign the church to focus on its core business of winning souls to Christ, which is the main mission of the church. We’ve so far managed to hold three city conferences namely, Greater Manicaland, Greater CHivhu and Greater Bulawayo. 
These conferences have gone a long way to bring restoration, reconciliation, healing and revival in the church. This trajectory will continue until we finish all our provinces. Come March 2023 we will be meeting or we’ll be having the Greater Midlands Conference.

Also speaking at the event that was graced by Harare Mayor, Councillor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Mafume">Jacob Mafume,</a> Father Moyo leader of the Catholic Churches in Zimbabwe applauded AFM “for winning souls to God”. 
He, however, bemoaned divisions among Christians which he said were dividing the body of Christ.
Moyo said there was a need for unity and dialogue adding that individuals, inducing church leaders must prioritise uplifting the name of God, and not theirs.

Rev Amon Madawo Says AFM In Zimbabwe Is Not At War With AFM Of Zimbabwe

Indigenous church leaders have petitioned President Emmerson Mnangagwa to grant them land to build churches and do other projects as happened with churches “that came with colonial masters”.
Speaking at a Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches conference at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Saturday, Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Bishop <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nehemiah_Mutendi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nehemiah Mutendi</a> said:
<blockquote>We want you to acknowledge us as indigenous churches. The colonial governments were giving farms to churches they came along with. We want the government to give us the same privileges.</blockquote>
The gathering was also attended by the leader of the United Families International Church, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmanuel_Makandiwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmanuel Makandiwa</a>, and leader of a faction of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM)</a> in Zimbabwe, Cossam Chiangwa.
