Former United States President Donald Trump has been charged with criminal charges for allegedly attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a 45-page indictment in Washington, DC on Tuesday, detailing four felony charges against Trump. These included conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy against rights, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and obstructing an official proceeding. 
Trump has been accused of trying to obstruct “a bedrock function” of democracy in order to retain power. The charges stemmed from Smith’s investigation into allegations that Trump sought to reverse his loss to Democrat Joe Biden.
Prosecutors alleged that Trump pushed fraud claims he knew to be untrue, pressured state and federal officials, and incited a violent assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, to undermine the country’s democracy. In a brief statement to reporters, Smith placed the blame for the violence squarely on Trump’s shoulders. Smith said:

The attack on our nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy. It was fuelled by lies – lies by the defendant, targeted at obstructing the bedrock function of the US government.

The indictment offers a broader picture of attempts Trump allegedly made to subvert the election. The case has been assigned to US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who was appointed by Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama. Trump was ordered to make an initial appearance in federal court in Washington, DC on Thursday.
Trump, the 45th President of the United States, last year announced his re-election campaign and candidacy for a non-consecutive second presidential term in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The Trump campaign called the charges “fake” and asked why it took two-and-a-half years to bring them. It added:

Donald Trump was the only individual charged in the indictment filed on Tuesday. However, prosecutors identified several co-conspirators, including lawyers from within and outside of government, who allegedly collaborated with Trump to overturn the election results. The indictment alleges that Trump and his accomplices orchestrated fake slates of electors in seven states, which he lost, with the intent of certifying them as authentic by Congress on January 6. The document also highlights multiple instances of Trump spreading false claims about the election and acknowledges that his top advisers, including senior intelligence officials, repeatedly informed him that the results were valid.

Trump Charged For Trying To Overturn 2020 Election

Twitter has reinstated former US President Donald Trump’s account after Twitter CEO and new owner Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter on Friday night asking the platform’s users if Trump should be reinstated.
According to <a href="https://thenewshawks.com/measles-deaths-hidden-to-avert-panic-red-cross/">CNN</a>, the final poll results on Saturday night showed 51.8% in favour and 48.2% opposed. The poll included 15 million votes. Musk tweeted on Saturday:

</blockquote>
Before the ban, Trump was Twitter’s most influential, if controversial user, according to CNN.
He has 90 million followers and his tweets often move the markets, set the news cycle, and drove the agenda in Washington.
Asked on Saturday what he thought of Musk buying Twitter and his own future on the platform, Trump said:

They have a lot of problems. You see what’s going on. It may make it, it may not make it.

Trump was in Las Vegas at the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting when he made the remarks.
He said he liked Musk and “liked that he bought (Twitter), adding “He’s a character and I tend to like characters… But he’s smart.
Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Twitter began applying warning labels to Trump’s tweets in an attempt to correct his election-rigging claims.
Twitter banned Trump’s account following the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Twitter said at the time:

Elon Musk Restores Donald Trump’s Twitter Account

Former United States President Donald Trump announced Tuesday night that he will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
If successful, he will become only the second commander-in-chief ever elected to two non-consecutive terms, according to CNN News.
Addressing a crowd gathered at Mar-a-Lago, his waterfront estate in Florida, where his campaign will be headquartered, Trump said:

In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.
This will not be my campaign, this will be our campaign all together.
</blockquote>
Trump’s long-awaited campaign comes as the Republicans failed to gain a Senate majority, came up short in their efforts to fill several statewide seats, and have yet to secure a House majority in the mid-term elections.
Trump’s third presidential bid also coincides with a period of heightened legal peril as Justice Department officials investigating him and his associates revisit the prospect of indictments in their Trump-related probes. 
The former president is currently being investigated for his activities before and during the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol and his retention of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate after he left office. 
The former real estate businessman and reality TV star was first elected to office in 2016, beating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a contentious general election.
As president, Trump pushed an “America First” foreign policy approach, pulling the US out of international agreements such as the Paris climate accord and the Iran nuclear deal.

Donald Trump Announces He'll Seek Re-election In 2024

Elon Musk fired Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal along with three other top executives including legal executive Vijaya Gadde as soon as he acquired the microblogging site. 
Reports claimed that Musk is apparently running a cleaning drive at Twitter and earlier there were reports which said that Musk may fire up to 75% of Twitter’s workforce. 
The CEO of electric car maker Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) and self-described free speech absolutist also fired Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, according to people familiar with the matter. 
He had accused them of misleading him and Twitter investors over the number of fake accounts on the platform.
Agrawal and Segal were in Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters when the deal closed and were escorted out, the sources added.
Musk, who also runs rocket company SpaceX, plans to become Twitter’s interim CEO according to a person familiar with the matter and following an earlier report by Reuters. 
Musk also plans to scrap permanent bans on users, Bloomberg said, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Musk said in May he would reverse Twitter’s ban on Donald Trump, whose account was removed after the attack on the U.S. Capitol. 
The former U.S. president previously said he won’t return to the platform and has instead launched his own social media app, Truth Social.
Musk tried to calm Twitter employee fears that major layoffs are coming and assured advertisers that his past criticism of Twitter’s content moderation rules would not harm its appeal.
As news of the deal spread, some Twitter users were quick to flag their willingness to walk away.
European regulators also reiterated past warnings that, under Musk’s leadership, Twitter must still abide by the region’s Digital Services Act, which levies hefty fines on companies if they do not control illegal content.

Former United States of America President Donald Trump was on Saturday acquitted by the Senate in his second impeachment trial for his alleged role of inciting a riot at the Capitol on 6 January 2021 which sent legislators scampering for safety.
Trump is the only United States president to be impeached twice but on both occasions, he escaped conviction.
The former president’s second impeachment trial came to a climactic end on Saturday afternoon after a majority of senators voted in favour of his conviction but failed to reach the required 67 votes threshold.
In a statement following his acquittal, Trump castigated his trial as yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of the United States of America. The statement said:

'The Movement Has Only Just Begun', Trump Speaks After Acquittal

United States president Joe Biden has spoken for the first time since his predecessor, Donald Trump was acquitted in the second impeachment trial.
By a vote of 57 to 43, the Senate acquitted Trump, with 67 votes needed to secure a conviction.
In a statement issued nearly seven hours after the vote, President Biden began by paying tribute to Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick who was killed by a pro-Trump mob during an attack on the Capitol Hill in January. Below is the statement in full:
<blockquote>It was nearly two weeks ago that Jill and I paid our respects to Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who laid in honour in the Rotunda after losing his life protecting the Capitol from a riotous, violent mob on January 6, 2021.

The Senate vote followed the bipartisan vote to impeach him by the House of Representatives.

President Biden Speaks After Trump's 2nd Acquittal

United States president, Joe Biden is Monday expected to reinstate COVID-19 travel restrictions which his predecessor Donald Trump had lifted.
The ban would prevent most non-U.S. citizens from entry if they have recently been in South Africa, where a new aggressive variant of Covid-19 has been identified.
Biden is also expected to reinstate broader restrictions that were in effect much of the past year but were rescinded by President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/18/us/coronavirus-travel-ban-europe-brazil.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">days before his term ended</a>.
The COVID-19 travel restrictions would affect non-U.S. citizens travelling from the United Kingdom, Ireland and much of Europe in what is known as the Schengen countries, which share a common visa process. Travellers from Brazil would also be affected.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Sunday that, beginning Tuesday, it will no longer consider exceptions to <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">its requirement that international travelLers</a> present negative coronavirus tests.
Airlines had asked the agency to relax the rule for some countries with limited testing capacity. A CDC spokesman said in a statement:

Biden Reinstating COVID-19 Travel Restrictions

United States president, Joe Biden, has started to reverse or halt a number of policies which came into effect during the Donald Trump administration “to start moving our country forward.”
Many of the actions will take government policies back to where they were on January 19, 2017, the final day of the Barack Obama-Joe Biden administration. Below is a list of some changes Biden seeks to effect:

<li>Halting construction of the wall that Trump ordered on the US-Mexico border to stem illegal immigration.</li>

<li>Restoring protections of valuable nature reserves removed by Trump</li>
<li>Seeking freezes on evictions and protection for millions behind on their mortgages due to the coronavirus pandemic.</li>
<li>Sending a bill to Congress to revamp immigration policies and give millions of undocumented migrants living inside the country a path to citizenship that the Trump administration denied.</li>
<li>Reversing Trump’s decision to leave the World Health Organization.</li>
<li>Returning to the 2016 Paris accord to contribute to fighting climate change</li>
<li>Reversing Trump decisions to ease emissions and efficiency standards, and rescind the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, a large project that would bring relatively high-polluting Canadian oil into the United States.</li>

Other actions by the new president will require a government-wide, proactive equality effort for minority groups, in hiring, contracting, and service.

United States president Donald Trump has been impeached over incitement of violence that happened last week at Capitol Hill.
The impeachment comes a few days before Trump was to officially leave the White House to allow the president elect, Joseph Biden to take over.
Trump has been refusing to accept the outcome of the November 2020 election claiming that the voting process was manipulated in favour of his rival.
He urged his supporters to march on Capitol Hill where the Senate was endorsing Biden’s victory.
A number of people died in clashes with the police due to the unprecedented insurrection.
World leaders castigated the violence with some describing it as a huge blow to democracy in the whole world.
Trump previously survived impeachment over abuse of power and the alleged involvement Russia in the previous election in which he overcame Hillary Clinton.
Trump becomes the first president in the American history to be impeached twice.

USA Violence: Donald Trump Impeached

United States Vice President Mike Pence has said he will not invoke the 25th Amendment against President Donald Trump.
The 25th Amendment can be used to remove a sitting President and was designed to be used in the event of presidential incapacity or disability.
In a letter to House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Pence said, “I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution”. The letter reads:

Every American was shocked and saddened by the attack on our Nation’s Capitol last week, and I am grateful for the leadership that you and other congressional leaders provided in reconvening Congress to complete the people’s business on the very same day.
It was a moment that demonstrated to the American people the unity that is still possible in Congress when it is needed most.
But now, with just eight days left in the President’s term, you and the Democratic Caucus are demanding that the Cabinet and I invoke the 25th Amendment.
I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution.
Last week, I did not yield to pressure to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representatives to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our Nation.
As you know full well, the 25th Amendment was designed to address Presidential incapacity or disability.
Just a few months ago, when you introduced legislation to create a 25th Amendment Commission, you said, “[a] President’s fitness for office must be determined by science and facts.”
You said then that we must be “[v]ery respectful of not making a judgment on the basis of a comment or behaviour that we don’t like, but based on a medical decision.”
Madam Speaker, you were right. Under our Constitution, the 25th Amendment is not a means of punishment or usurpation. Invoking the 25th Amendment in such a manner would set a terrible precedent.
After the horrific events of this last week, our Administration’s energy is directed to ensuring an orderly transition.
The Bible says that “for everything, there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven…a time to heal, … and a time to build up.” That time is now.
In the midst of a global pandemic, economic hardship for millions of Americans, and the tragic events of January 6th, now is the time for us to come together, now is the time to heal.
I urge you and every member of Congress to avoid actions that would further divide and inflame the passions of the moment.
Work with us to lower the temperature and unite our country as we prepare to inaugurate President-elect Joe Biden as the next President of the United States.

VP Pence Rejects US House Demand To Invoke 25th Amendment

Donald Trump is seen in the following video condemning the protestors who breached Capitol Hill on Wednesday and said those that were violent do not represent their country. Said Trump in an address:

The youthful MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has addressed the photo of a comparison between him and embattled US President Donald Trump being touted by his rivals and said in the end, the will of the people will prevail. Nelson Chamisa has over the years refused to acknowledge President Mnangagwa’s presidency saying he rigged the 2018 elections.

Social Media sites YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook yesterday removed a video of Donald Trump in which he was telling protestors he told to take over Capitol Hill to go home and that he loved them and they were very special.
Trump who incited the protest has posted a short video on the platforms urging the protestors to go home before he told them they were very special and that he loved them. In his ending remarks on the video Trump said:

He failed to condemn the acts of violence that had caused Capitol Hill to be in lockdown in the short clip that was taken down by YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook

Twitter has blocked the account of United States President Donald Trump for at least 12 hours while Facebook blocked him for 24 hours over policy violations.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Monday seized a South Korean oil tanker vessel with the commercial name Hankuk Chemi in the Persian Gulf.
The Hankuk Chemi vessel was said to be carrying 7 200 tonnes of ethanol.
In a statement, the IRGC Navy said it seized the Hankuk Chemi Vessel due to repeated “violations of environmental laws.” Read the statement in part:

Tensions between the United States of America and Iran are rising shortly before the first anniversary of the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/01/03/us-air-raid-at-baghdad-airport-kills-qassem-soleimani-a-top-iranian-commander/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">murder of Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani.</a>
Soleimani, a powerful military figure in the Persian Gulf, was killed on 3 January last year in a Donald Trump-sanctioned US air raid on Iraq.
Soleimani’s successor, Gen. Esmail Ghaani, on Friday marked the death of the former Quds Force commander’s death by pledging that “those who took part in this assassination and crime will not be safe on earth. It’s definite.”
Gen. Esmail Ghaani told the crowd gathered for a ceremony marking Soleimani’s death that “what they have seen so far have been just some part of revenge, but they should wait for hard revenge. The time and place will be determined by the dear Resistance Front forces.”

Chin'ono: Trump Could've Rigged Elections In Zimbabwe

United States of America President Donald Trump has said he will leave the White House if the Electoral College certifies Joe Biden as the winner of the November 3 presidential election.
This is the closest the United States president has come to conceding the contest after weeks of his campaign team refusing to recognise Joe Biden as the outright winner of the presidential race.
Responding to a question after a Thanksgiving videoconference with members of the US military on Thursday, on whether he will leave office if President-elect Biden officially wins the Electoral College vote, Trump said:
<blockquote>Certainly, I will. Certainly, I will. And you know that.</blockquote>
Trump, however, declined to say whether he would attend Biden’s inauguration, scheduled for January 20.
He said he intends to hold a rally in the US state of Georgia on December 5 in support of two Republican Senate candidates there.
The result of those election runoffs will decide which party gets a majority in the US Senate.
Major news agencies called the race for Biden earlier this month, saying Barack Obama’s former deputy had secured 306 Electoral College votes compared with Trump’s 232.
A candidate must gain 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.
Meanwhile, Electoral College voters, known as electors, are scheduled to meet on December 14.
Traditionally, electors mostly vote based on the outcome of the presidential race in their states.

The Senator for Utah, Mitt Romney (Republican) on Thursday directly criticised President Donald Trump for efforts by the president and his allies to reverse the results of the presidential election.
In a statement posted on microblogging site Twitter, Romney denounced the head of state, saying it was “difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action” by the president. He wrote:
<blockquote>Having failed to make even a plausible case of widespread fraud or conspiracy before any court of law, the President has now resorted to overt pressure on state and local officials to subvert the will of the people and overturn the election. Romney’s statement comes after Trump invited some of Michigan’s top Republicans to the White House in a sign he may be seeking a way around the election results where Biden is projected to get 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232.
Trump also reached out to officials in Wayne County who had sought to block the certification of votes there.
Trump has refused to concede defeat to Democratic candidate Joe Biden and this has delayed the transition, with analysts saying it could have a detrimental effect on how the new president addresses pertinent issues.

United States President Donald Trump has said only “time will tell” whether he will retain the presidency or he will surrender it to rival Joe Biden.
Trump speaks when Biden has since secured 306 Electoral College votes, far more than the 270 needed to be elected president and above Trump’s 232.
In his first public remarks since Biden was projected as the election’s winner a week ago, Trump said:

Trump declared victory way before votes in some key states had been counted. When he was losing to Biden, he claimed that there were some irregularities in the counting and sued some states over the irregularities.
Meanwhile, even some of his supporters have since conceded defeat to Biden and Kamila Harris saying the lawsuits will not change the outcome.
Trump’s aides say he is considering starting a television channel or social media company to compete with those he felt betrayed him and stifled his ability to communicate directly with Americans.
The TV channel is believed to be his strategy to keep him in the spotlight ahead of a possible 2024 White House bid.

Trump Says "Time Will Tell" US Election Winner

The ruling ZANU PF has said the comparison between United States President Donald Trump and the late former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe is inappropriate.
The party’s acting secretary for Information, Patrick Chinamasa said Trump by refusing to accept the outcome of the November 3 US election is in fact behaving like opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.
He speaks at the backdrop of a stand-off between the ruling party and MDC Alliance which accuses the former of conniving with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to manipulate the 2018 presidential election in favour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Meanwhile, Trump is refusing to accept the outcome of the US November 3 election citing irregularities in the counting of votes in some key swing states.
He has since dragged some states to court and at some point called for the counting of votes to “stop” prompting some Americans to say he was eager to cling to power, at all costs, like Mugabe.
Chinamasa, however, said it was Chamisa who is refusing to accept the outcome of the 2018 election. He made the remarks during the party’s weekly media address saying:
<blockquote>If you wanted to liken Donald Trump to any personality in our political arena, it will be Chamisa. In fact, it will be Chamisa. President (Robert) Mugabe was never defeated and never refused to vacate as we know historically. It is not true (that he was defeated). He was never defeated in any election as Zanu PF, as President Mugabe since 1980.</blockquote>
In 2008, Mugabe lost to the late MDC veteran leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, but ZEC called for a rerun saying no candidate had attained 50 plus one percent of the votes cast as required by the constitution.
Some believe Tsvangirai had attained over 60 percent but ZEC was arm-twisted by ZANU PF to announce that he had attained fewer votes.
In the run-up to the election, MDC supporters were killed and intimidated by soldiers, war veterans and ZANU PF supporters prompting Tsvangirai to pull out of the race which Mugabe eventually won.

The United States’ Secretary of State <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/03/03/pompeo-north-korea-summit-stalemate-warmbier-military-exercises-trump-2020-caucuses/3028940002/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mike Pompeo</a> has made startling remarks with regards to this year’s elections saying he expects a “smooth transition to a second Trump administration.”
For some, Pompeo’s remarks suggest that President Donald Trump who was defeated by rival Joe Biden would not handover power.
Trump has claimed that the election was marred by irregularities, has sued some states and has demanded that votes be recounted in some key swing states.
<a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4922286/secretary-pompeo-there-smooth-transition-trump-administration" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Pompeo’s remarks</a> Tuesday suggest that those legal challenges might result in a Trump victory although legal experts have said his claims are <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/11/09/trump-isnt-gore-how-2020-s-legal-challenges-arent-same-2000/6220157002/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">weak</a>, and even <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/11/08/mitt-romney-republicans-wrestle-response-trumps-defeat/6213267002/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Trump’s allies in Congress</a> concede the lawsuits are unlikely to change the November 3 election outcome.
Pompeo was asked during a news conference if the State Department would cooperate with Biden’s transition team – and if not, whether that would pose a risk to U.S. national security. He responded:

He claimed victory way before the counting of votes was over, dragged some states over alleged irregularities in the counting of votes and protested against the counting of votes prompting some to say he sought to cling on power at all costs.
Responding to Trump’s Press conference allegations of electoral fraud, former US ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power drew similarities between Trump and former and Mugabe. Power tweeted that:

This was in reference to Mugabe’s long stay in power and refusal to leave office despite losing to his longest rival Morgan Tsvangirai at some point.
Richard Downes, a well-known Irish broadcaster and journalist echoed similar views tweeting that:

Robert Swan Mueller, an American lawyer and former Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice, likened Trump’s behaviour with that of opposition parties in Zimbabwe that cannot accept the outcome of elections.
NewsDay columnist Tapiwa Gomo it is sad that Zimbabwe has become a point of reference for political mischief. Gomo adds that it is imperative for Zimbabwe “to sanitise our political image for the sake of our dignity.”

US Election: Zimbabwe A Global Example Of Bad Politics

Sunday News Editorial has said Joe Biden’s victory against Donald Trump in the United States 2020 elections is positive news for the whole world and Zimbabwe in particular.
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/07/joe-biden-beats-donald-trump-to-win-us-election/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Joe Biden won the US presidency</a> after clinching by clinching 284 electoral college votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win the White House, the Associated Press (AP) announced.
The publication says Zimbabwe has for the past four years been either been ignored by an intensely inward-looking administration or has been at the receiving end of ill-considered statements and policies. Part of the article reads:

So having a US president who at least recognises the global responsibilities of the US, as well as its muscle, and who believes in diplomacy to help solve global problems will be a relief for all.

The publication, however, notes that one of the trickiest points for Zimbabwe will be ZIDERA, an American Act of 2001 and amended in 2018, that controls most of the US sanctions against Zimbabwe.
ZIDERA was sponsored by a total of four senators, two of whom were Hillary Rodham Clinton and Joseph Robinette Biden.
The publication makes the projection when a Zimbabwean political analyst and law expert, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/28/what-trump-or-biden-win-means-for-zimbabwe-hofisi/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tinashe Hofisi has expressed pessimism over the possibility of Biden normalising relations with Zimbabwe.</a> He recently said:
<blockquote>Hillary Clinton recently tweeted demanding the release of political prisoners in Zimbabwe, highlighting how the corporate wing of the Democratic Party is a powerful amplifier of opposition and civil society voices in Zimbabwe.
With Joe Biden in the White House, the bipartisan agreement to financially isolate Zimbabwe and target persons and entities would thus continue without any significant alteration.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe-US relations have been sower especially following the controversial fast track land reform programme two decades ago.
The Southern African country is accused of violating human rights and has been told to implement reforms that enhance democracy and good governance if relations are to normalise.
Zimbabwe which has since 2018 embarked on an engagement and re-engagement drive says it is on course to implementing the reforms.

Joe Biden has won the US presidency by clinching Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes, the Associated Press (AP) has just announced.
Biden’s electoral vote count now stands at 284, surpassing the 270 needed to win the White House.
Donald Trump has been defeated, and Biden will become the 46th president of the United States in January.
Biden, who turns 78 at the end of this month, will become the oldest president when he is inaugurated in January
He will take over from Trump in the midst of the worst public health crisis in 100 years, the deepest economic slump since the 1930s and a national reckoning on racism and police brutality that is still unresolved.
With Biden’s victory, Kamala Harris will be the first woman and the first person of colour to become vice president. She will also be sworn in January.
Meanwhile, Biden has broken his silence since being declared the next President of the USA. <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/status/1325118992785223682?s=20" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">He wrote on Twitter</a>:
<blockquote>America, I’m honoured that you have chosen me to lead our great country.
The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not.
I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.</blockquote>
However, the Trump campaign also said it would demand a recount in Wisconsin, where Biden led Trump by some 20,000 votes, even though historically a margin of that magnitude is unlikely to be reversed.
Trump has also announced a press event in Philadelphia at 11.30 local time

Joe Biden Beats Donald Trump To Win US election

The speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has called former Vice President Joe Biden ‘President-elect’ adding that it is ‘clear’ he will win the election.
This comes as Joe Biden is winning in Trump’s perceived strongholds.
Biden is locked in a tight presidential race with the Republican’s Donald Trump who is seeking a second term in office.
Both Trump and Biden have claimed victory but Trump is trailing behind by a great margin and is even losing in the Republican’s usual hunting grounds.
Trump’s bid to retain the presidency was thrown off the rails by the way he handled the coronavirus and the deteriorating economy that this year reached unprecedented levels.
His disgruntled supporters have this week been protesting outside vote counting centres echoing Trump’s “stop the count” remarks.
