Award-winning investigative journalist and filmmaker <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin%27ono">Hopewell Chin’ono </a>believes <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky D</a> is the greatest <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimdancehall">Zimdancehall </a>artist the country has ever produced.
The veteran Kambuzuma-raised chanter has been in the game for over 20 years, but of late, government sympathizers have downplayed his legacy due to songs interpreted as critical of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">President Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>-led administration.
But Chin’ono, on Twitter, backed the Musarova Bigman hit-maker and described him as the greatest ZimDancehall artist ever. He said:

Oliver Mtukudzi told me that music must touch the heart and soul, and it must heal the pain of the listener.
He said that if it doesn’t do that, it is just a composition.
Using that definition, I introduce to you the greatest Zim dancehall artist of all time.

Chin’on’s remarks come at a time when many Zimbabwean music fans are speculating that the organizers of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), <a href="https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.pindula.co.zw/2023/02/26/nama-21-award-winners-25-february-2023/amp/">which were held last night, </a>deliberately left out Winky D because of some of his politically-interpreted lyrics.

Winky D Is The Greatest Of All Time, Says Hopewell Chin'ono

President Emmerson Mnangagwa this week officially opened a bridge in Karanda. The event attracted the ire of Zimbabweans on Twitter who criticized the president for wasting time officiating low-value and low-quality projects.
The official opening of the 180 meters Karanda bridge was used to launch the government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Program 2(ERRP2). The bridge crosses the Ruya river.
According to a government official, Nick Mangagwa, the bridge “massively reduces the distance from Bindura to Mt Darwin using Rushinga Road.” Mangwana also said the bridge makes it easier to access <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Karanda_Mission_Hospital">Karanda hospital</a>.
Criticizing the president’s involvement in the commissioning of the recently completed bridge, <a href="https://twitter.com/freemanchari/status/1382778587804282881">activist Freeman Chari said</a>:
<blockquote>My issue with this government is its penchant to celebrate mediocrity. Karanda stonewalk was built 2 yrs ago and Mnangagwa wanted to open it in December 2019 but it was swept away (US$5m). Instead of cracking the whip, they gave them more money to do same shoddy stuff</blockquote>

President Emmerson Mnangagwa this week officially opened a bridge in Karanda. The event attracted the ire of Zimbabweans on Twitter who criticized the president for wasting time officiating low-value and low-quality projects.
The official opening of the 180 meters Karanda bridge was used to launch the government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Program 2(ERRP2). The bridge crosses the Ruya river.
According to a government official, Nick Mangagwa, the bridge “massively reduces the distance from Bindura to Mt Darwin using Rushinga Road.” Mangwana also said the bridge makes it easier to access <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Karanda_Mission_Hospital">Karanda hospital</a>.
Criticizing the president’s involvement in the commissioning of the recently completed bridge, <a href="https://twitter.com/freemanchari/status/1382778587804282881">activist Freeman Chari said</a>:
<blockquote>My issue with this government is its penchant to celebrate mediocrity. Karanda stonewalk was built 2 yrs ago and Mnangagwa wanted to open it in December 2019 but it was swept away (US$5m). Instead of cracking the whip, they gave them more money to do same shoddy stuff</blockquote>
Another activist <a href="https://twitter.com/daddyhope/status/1382935672173043715">Hopewell Chin’ono tweeted</a>:
<blockquote>Karanda bridge is an example of LOOTING! Media reports say $5.1 million was allocated. Due to incompetence the bridge was swept away in 2019. More money was allocated, then we ended up with what the President opened yesterday which is on the right picture. Grand INCOMPETENCE!</blockquote>

Exiled former Tertiary Education Minister Jonathan Moyo has claimed that army commanders have told President Mnangagwa to either step down or risk being forced out like his predecessor through a coup, Zimlive reports. Moyo claimed this the message was passed on when VP Chiwenga visited President Mnangagwa at his farm last month.
This was revealed in an interview that Moyo had with Spolithlight Zim, Moyo reportedly said:
<blockquote> Mnangagwa has been warm to such a deal, since his Kwekwe chat with Chiwenga but his cronies and cartelists (sic) are not happy with it.
Already, the likes of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Tagwirei">Kuda Tagwirei</a> have become regular if not daily visitors at State House with whispers that they are assessing possible arrangements and budgets for Glens and Biddulphs removal options, should an emergency arise for Mnangagwa and family to quickly exit State House in a negotiated departure.
But such a coup, although quite possible, is unlikely because the generals are aware of its possibility and have been working very hard to suppress it by all sorts of means, including running ahead of it by piling pressure on Mnangagwa to persuade him to go peacefully or risk being removed violently.</blockquote>
Moyo also claimed that SADC is likely to do nothing if another coup happened and cited what happened in Sudan as an example.

Military Commanders Sent Chiwenga To Tell ED To Step Down Or Risk Another Coup - Jonathan Moyo

The President and MDC leader<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa"> Nelson Chamisa</a> talks have stalled because the president reportedly is not responding to Thabo Mbeki’s communication concerning the dialogue, The Standard reports.
This was revealed by the MDC leader in an interview with the publication, Chamisa said:
<blockquote>I am told [former] president Mbeki said he is waiting for Mnangagwa since December, but he has not communicated back to him ever since.He has tried to communicate with him but he has not communicated back</blockquote>

Dialogue Talks Hit A Brickwall As ED Snubs Mbeki's Initiative - Report

The president during the politburo meeting that saw the demotion of the former Zanu Pf Youth league chief whip <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pupurai_Togarepi">Pupurai Togarepi</a> confronted Togarepi and reportedly said he had appointed him despite knowing he was not qualified to lead the youths, and that he had won that position due to his benevolence, Zimbabwe Independent reports.
A source that narrated the whole scene that happened in the meeting on Wednesday told the publication that:
<blockquote>The President spoke first and he was brutal in rebuking the youths, particularly Togarepi. He openly told Togarepi that he appointed him to lead the youths despite the fact that, at 56, he was not qualified to do so.
He told Togarepi that he owed his position to his benevolence and he was expecting him to provide good leadership to the youths, but seeing that he had dismally failed to do so, he was going to relieve him of the duties so that he remains as an ordinary card-carrying member of the party</blockquote>
The same meeting <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zanu-pf-divided-over-matutu-togarepi-and-tsenengamu-report/">reportedly divided the ruling party</a> with some officials wanting the youths fired from the party and other officials saying the party should not protect corrupt individuals.

ED Told Togarepi He Appointed Him Despite Him Not Being Qualified To Lead The Youths - Report

The government through the president announced its plans to introduce more subsidies for at least 7 more basic goods, Sunday News reports.
This was revealed by the president as he was addressing War Collaborators at a national conference in Harare. Said the President:
<blockquote>One of your grievances raised here was that of price increases. You already know what we have done by reversing the price of mealie-meal. We reversed it on Wednesday and we are going to gazette a Statutory Instrument by Monday (tomorrow) to reduce mealie-meal to $50. .
…In addition to that, we have also chosen about seven basic commodities which we are going to subsidise. These are basics used by a traditional family, and we want these basic foods to be cheaper. For example, if a product was selling for $20, you will buy at $12, then Government will pay the remaining $8 so that people can buy at a low price.</blockquote>
The basic goods to be subsidised will add to a basket of other subsidies like the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/ZUPCO">ZUPCO</a> transportation scheme that was introduced this year.

The president’s foreign trips have reportedly swallowed US$12.2 Million for the period January to September 2019, The Zimbabwean Independent reports.
The president and his entourage who prefer to travel in luxury have reportedly used US $12.2 Mullion in the first 8 months of the year which is an equivalent of ZWL$195+ Million using the bank rate.
The matter came to light through Mthuli Ncube’s budget expenditure estimates according to the publication:
<blockquote>Calculations based on the budget estimates of expenditure tabled in parliament by Finance minister Mthuli Ncube reveal Mnangagwa used US$12 215 558 when converted at the current interbank rate. Actual figures of expenditure up to September 2019 outlined in the blue book, indicate that the Office of the President and Cabinet spent ZW$12 979 637 (US$811 227) on domestic travels, while ZW$182 469 293 (US$11 404 330) was on foreign trips.
According to the blue book, the money spent on travel by government was in excess of ZW$2 million of the year’s budget which was estimated at ZW$165 745 811 (US$10 359 113)</blockquote>

ED Blows US $12.2+ Million On Foreign Trips Between January And September 2019

Varum Beverages, the guys that produce Pepsi Cola and some of the famous Mirinda drinks, 7 Up and mountain Dew yesterday opened the second phase of their manufacturing plant in Harare the Herald reports.
The President was invited to commission the plant and as a guest took the time to remind Zimbabweans of his hard work when he said Zimbabwe was on the right path, Said ED:
<blockquote>We are moving in the right direction by opening up and allowing protection of investments in Zimbabwe and creating economic space for business to thrive and those who have talent among us should be allowed to exercise that talent.
This investment feeds into our national Vision 2030 and complements milestones committed in the 2020 National Budget, gearing for higher productivity, growth and job creation, especially for women and youths.
…I call upon you and other investors to take advantage of Zimbabwe’s geo-strategic location to develop vibrant export strategies. Sadc, Comesa and the African Continental Free Trade Area are markets in which Zimbabwean-produced products must have a strong presence</blockquote>
The new phase of the production had added three new production lines.

Speaking about his farming activities the president boasted about his produce to the Sunday News. Said the Z<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/index.php?title=Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_Patriotic_Front&amp;redirect=no">anu PF leader:</a>
<blockquote>I am not a cellphone farmer. My brothers move around researching on the latest technology and how it can be used at the farm. As a result I am expecting between 12 and 14 tonnes per hectare in terms of maize.
We do, however, use cellphones in our production purposes. I have a pumping station that serves nine pivots collecting water from a distance of 7 kilometres and that is when I use a cellphone to operate the latest technology. It is all about technology, moving around seeing technology and how to apply it because what is necessary is that each hectare must produce more.</blockquote>
This was said by the president long back as he was urging the farmers to use latest technology in farming but not in instructing how they should farm with you the farmer absent.

The President will this week leave for Sochi Russia where the Russia-Africa Summit will take place, Sunday News reports.
The president is expected to meet Great Dyke and Alrosa investors in hopes of striking a deal that will boost the 2 projects significantly,
Zimbabwe to Russia Ambassador <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mike_Sango">Mike Sango</a> confirmed the news to the publication and said:
<blockquote>During the Summit H.E President E D Mnangagwa will meet with investors of Great Dyke Investments and Alrosa with a view to give impetus to the implementation of the two mega projects. Other meetings with the President in energy, mining and manufacturing sectors have been organised.
The success of the two mega projects are critical in attracting other Russian investors. Where big business succeeds, smaller players follow. But if they fail no other business will enter that market.</blockquote>

ED Off To Russia This Week To Attend The Russia-Africa Summit

The president is set to detail step by step how the country will unlock a 344% increase in the mining sector to export minerals worth $12 Billions annually the Sunday Mail reports. This was revealed by the mines minister who was speaking at an event in Harare when he said:
<blockquote>….as Government, we then identified quick wins, which would realise a 344 percent increase from US$2, 7 billion to US$12 billion in 2023.
We then measured the resources to the capital and then coming up with a comprehensive plan, which will be rolled out by His Excellency (President Mnangagwa) on the 14th of October whereby the US$12 billion will be completely unpacked which will indicate, by mineral, the projects which will contribute and also giving timelines.
US$12 billion is not actually an event, but a process and the process is underway. We have a number of projects which some will be commissioned this year and others which will start to be commissioned next year</blockquote>

ED To Spell Out Steps Of How To Achieve US$12 Billion Annual Exports - Report

The president of Zimbabwe will address the nation (State Of National Address) on Tuesday 1 October Sunday News reports. This was revealed by the clerk of parliament who said the president will address the nation when he officially opens the second session of the 9th parliament:
<blockquote>The State of the Nation Address (Sona) will be on the first of October at Parliament building. We have started preparations for the event and as you know, it is an event that brings together all the three arms of Government Parliament, the Executive and the Judiciary so we have also notified all of them. This Sunday (today), we will have rehearsals for the event.
There will be a lot of pomp and funfair. We will have the fly-past by the Air Force of Zimbabwe and ceremonial movement by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) along Nelson Mandela Avenue and so forth. We have engaged all stakeholders and they are busy doing their own preparations</blockquote>
The session is expected to pass a number of bills including one that may completely overhaul the diaspora voting stance according to the same publication.
