MDC-T leader, Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a>, has lost a court case in which Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Elias_Mudzuri">Elias Mudzuri</a> and six others were challenging expulsions from the opposition formation.
One of the seven, Norest Marara, says the court outcome should result in the reinstatement of engineer Mudzuri in the senate where he had been recalled. Marara spoke to ZiFM:

Justice Munangati ruled that it was indeed unconstitutional to say we had self-expelled ourselves. The basis was that Mr Mwonzora did not oppose that application that we sought in the High Court. It’s indeed a great day, it’s indeed great news. It means the recall for Senator Mudzuri must be reversed. We need to do the legal processes to have the recall of Senator Mudzuri reversed.

<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mwonzora-expels-mudzuri-6-other-suspended-officials-from-mdc/">Mwonzora announced the expulsion</a> of former party vice president Elias Mudzuri and six other long-serving members from the party on 6 February this year.
Mudzuri and the other six officials were all on suspension for allegedly committing acts of gross misconduct by taking the MDC to court. Mwonzora said last month:

We have lifted the suspensions on Senator Mudzuri and the 6 others that is because the suspensions serve no purpose. In terms of our constitution, they have expelled themselves from the party by taking the party to court.

Mwonzora then <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mdc-t-leader-mwonzora-recalls-elias-mudzuri-from-senate/">recalled Mudzuri from the Upper House alleging</a> that he had ceased to belong to his party.
In a vacancy notice to the Senate on Tuesday, deputy president of the senate <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mike_Nyambuya">Michael Reuben Nyambuya</a> said the MDC-T informed him that Sen Mudzuri ceased to be a member of the party with effect from February 1.
Mudzuri was expelled alongside Norest Marara, Gift Konjana (Mashonaland West province chairperson), John Nyika (Masvingo province chairperson), Den Moyo (US province chairperson), Edwin Dzambara (secretary for Education) and Edwin Kakora (national executive member).

Mwonzora Loses Court Battle Against Mudzuri, 6 Others

Former MDC Alliance senator Elias Mudzuri has failed to stop his expulsion from MDC-T, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/mudzuris-bid-to-block-expulsion-from-mdc-t-fails/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
The opposition party recently expelled Mudzuri alongside Norest Marara, Edwin Kakora, Gift Konjana, Den Moyo and Edwin Dzambara.
Mudzuri then filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court seeking to stop the confirmation of his expulsion.
However, High Court judge Justice David Mangota dismissed Mudzuri’s application, ruling that he had failed to justify his request. Ruled the judge:

The logic of the matter is that the letter of 6 February 2023 would not have taken away from the applicant his position as Vice-President of the first respondent (MDC-T) and allowed him to remain a card-carrying member of the first respondent. 
He would, in all probability, have been stripped of his membership in the first respondent completely.
Once it is accepted, as it should, that the applicant is no longer a member of the first respondent, the logical conclusion which follows from the stated matter is that he has no right that he requires to protect.
An applicant for an interdict must prove, on a preponderance of probabilities, the existence of the right which he wants to be protected by the interdict.
All other requirements for an interdict will only be considered after the existence of the right has been established.
Where, as in casu (in this case), no such right exists, the application for an interdict fails.
The applicant failed to prove, on a balance of probabilities, the existence of any right which he enjoys in the first respondent.
The application is struck off the roll of urgent matters with costs.

In his application, Mudzuri cited, the MDC-T, MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora, party chairman Morgen Komichi, and MDC-T Secretary General Paurina Mupariwa Gwanyanya as respondents.
The respondents challenged his application, arguing that what he sought to interdict had already taken place.
Mudzuri, Norest Marara, Edwin Kakora, Gift Konjana, Den Moyo and Edwin Dzambara were expelled from MDC-T for violating the party’s constitution after dragging their Mwonzora to court challenging his re-election on December 18, 2022.

Mudzuri’s Bid To Block Expulsion From MDC-T Fails

MDC president Douglas Mwonzora has announced the expulsion of former party vice president Elias Mudzuri and six other long-serving members from the party.
Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Monday, 06 February, Mwonzora said Mudzuri and the other six officials, who were all on suspension, committed acts of gross misconduct by taking the MDC to court. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200007100/mwonzora-expells-mudzuri-6-others-from-mdc">NewsDay</a> quoted Mwonzora as saying:

We have lifted the suspensions on Senator Mudzuri and the 6 others that is because the suspensions serve no purpose.
In terms of our constitution, they have expelled themselves from the party by taking the party to court.
In terms of clause 5.10a of the constitution of the MDC if you take the party to court you automatically expel yourself from the party.

The other six officials are Norest Marara, Mashonaland West province chairperson Gift Konjana, Masvingo province chairperson John Nyika, US province chairperson Den Moyo, secretary for Education, Edwin Dzambara and national executive member Edwin Kakora.

Mwonzora Expels Mudzuri, 6 Other Suspended Officials From MDC

MDC-T Break-away group, led by Elias Mudzuri and other suspended members, has said the party led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora currently does not have the capacity to rebuild Zimbabwe.
The group made the remarks during a press conference held in Harare on Thursday 02 February 2023. Said the group:

We do not think that we do have a party that can actually do the job for us to bring true liberation to Zimbabweans who are suffering, you know economic problems we are facing.
</blockquote>
The group said there is a need for the opposition MDC-T to reorganise and restructure and put the right people for the right decisions to be made.
The break-away party consists of Mudzuri, Norest Marara, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Konjana">Gift Konjana</a>, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora who were suspended from the MDC-T last month allegedly for breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.
Following the suspension, Mudzuri <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mudzuri-vows-to-resist-expulsion-from-mdc-t/">vowed to resist expulsion</a> saying Mwonzora can only expel him on paper.
There has been a leadership crisis in the MDC-T since the 26 March 2022 by-elections in which the party did not win a single seat.
Some members of the MDC-T blame leader Senator Douglas Mwonzora for the loss and they hoped he would be replaced during the party’s <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mdc-holds-5th-ordinary-congress/">5th Ordinary Congress</a> held at the City Sports Centre in Harare on Sunday, 18 December 2022. 
However, the MDC-T endorsed Mwonzora as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.
Mudzuri and colleagues say the congress must be declared null and void because Mwonzora did not follow due process.

MDC-T Break-away Group: "Our Party Currently Doesn't Have Capacity To Rebuild Zimbabwe"

A breakaway group from the opposition MDC-T held a press conference in Harare this Thursday during which they denounced MDC-T leader Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a>
The group which consists of some senior opposition leaders including Engineer Elias Mudzuri, says it is aggrieved by many issues including a “shambolic” national congress.
MDC-T last month suspended Mudzuri, Norest Marara, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Konjana">Gift Konjana</a>, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora allegedly for breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.

During the presser, the group said since the passing of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Movement_for_Democratic_Change">MDC’</a>s founding leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai">Morgan Tsvangirai</a>, the party degenerated into chaos and lost its ethos and values.
Addressing the media, Mudzuri said the party was violating the principles of democracy.
He said the national congress led by Mwonzora is null and void as it did not follow the MDC-T constitution. 
Mudzuri said his group seeks to restore order in the MDC-T party. He said consultations with all structures of the party are in the process in a bid to map a way forward for the party. 
Asked why the electorate should trust a party that is going through a leadership crisis a few months before the election, Mudzuri said members of the MDC were not ready for any election. He said members were not consulted when a congress meant to choose their representatives were chosen. 
He said they intend to build proper and vibrant structures.

MDC-T Break Away Addresses A Press Conference

Former MDC-T vice president Elias Mudzuri has said the party president Douglas Mwonzora was destroying the party by firing members over petty issues.
The MDC-T National Council recently suspended Mudzuri together with six other party leaders for “indiscipline”.
The other officials who were suspended are provincial chairpersons Gift Konjana (Mashonaland West), John Nyika (Masvingo) Den Moyo (USA Province) Edwin Dzambara (Secretary for Education), and Edwin Kakora (national executive member).
In an interview with <a href="https://tellzim.com/mwonzora-destroying-mdc-t-mudzuri/">TellZim News</a> Mudzuri said he was yet to receive communication on his suspension.
He said he only heard about the suspension from other members of the party who were in the meeting that resolved to suspend him. Mudzuri added:

Mwonzora is destroying the party with his actions. The party needs people for the 2023 elections but he is busy suspending; how is it going to stand a chance against ZANU PF?
</blockquote>
Mudzuri, on his official Twitter account, claimed that the party had resolved to fire him for telling leaders that leadership should be chosen from grassroots structures. He wrote:

I am reliably informed that today (January 21, 2023) the illegitimate MDC National Council will expel me from the party.
How can a founder member be expelled for insisting that leaders must always be chosen by the base structures &amp; not the elite &amp; for merely chatting with customers at Duriro Bar?

Douglas Mwonzora Is Destroying MDC-T, Says Mudzuri

Former MDC-T deputy president Elias Mudzuri has said he will resist attempts to expel him from the party following his suspension last week.
The MDC National Council suspended Mudzuri, Norest Marara, Mashonaland West province chairperson Gift Konjana, Masvingo province chairperson John Nyika, US province chairperson Den Moyo, secretary for Education, Edwin Dzambara and national executive member Edwin Kakora.
Posting on Twitter, Mudzuri, a former Harare mayor, claimed that an MDC-T national council meeting held on Saturday in Harare was meant to expel him from the party. He wrote:
<blockquote>
I am reliably informed that today the illegitimate MDC national council will expel me from the party.
How can a founder member be expelled for insisting that leaders must always be chosen by the base structures and not the elite and for merely chatting with customers at Duriro Bar?
</blockquote>
Mudzuri owns Duriro Bar in Harare. Speaking in an interview with The Standard on Saturday, Mudzuri said he cannot be expelled from a party he “founded”. He said:

They may expel me on paper, but I will remain MDC. I believe in MDC principles. You should be asking Mwonzora why they have abandoned the MDC tradition.
They should have consulted the people. No one is bigger than an institution. The council has taken its powers too far.
The council has no power to override the congress and a congress must start from the ward.
If I am the one who is wrong the people should judge. It is the masses who should judge.

MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba dismissed Mudzuri’s claim that he was a founding member of the party. He said:
<blockquote>
I cannot give a response to his expulsion before it happens but as always the guilty are always afraid.
Mudzuri has been lying to the world that he is a founder member of the MDC, but this is not true.
He joined the party in 2002 after he was co-opted as deputy ward chairperson for Budiriro where he was operating his nightclub.
His first party card was facilitated in the same year by Alois Masepe.

Mudzuri Vows To Resist Expulsion From MDC-T

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Elias_Mudzuri">Elias Mudzuri</a>, a former MDC vice president, and six other party members who were suspended lately over a number of alleged offences have argued that their removal was unlawful, raising more doubts about <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a>‘s authority as the party’s leader.
The opposition suspended Mudzuri, Norest Marara, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Konjana">Gift Konjana</a>, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora on Monday for allegedly breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.
The seven argued in an internal memo submitted to the party’s national chairperson Solomon Chikohwero that the Mwonzora camp’s suspension of them was unlawful. They also vowed to continue carrying out their party obligations.
They cited sections of the MDC constitution that state that the president and national chairperson are elected in a congress, therefore, since there was no congress, the party’s presidency, national chairperson, and standing committee positions were all vacant. As per 6.4.4.1 of the MDC Constitution, The President and National Chairman of the party together with the rest of the Standing Committee office bearers shall be elected at Congress.

Any individual seeking to usurp powers vested in 6.4.4.1 is acting ultra-vires the party constitution and any actions, announcements, or representations from such individuals are null and void.

The seven officials, according to MDC spokesperson Witness Dube, were accused of leaking the information to the media in an effort to get unwarranted attention.
Dube claimed that the suspended officials were merely seeking public sympathy because they even considered writing to Chikohwero, who they claim was improperly using his position as party chair. Dube said:
<blockquote>
We will not be drawn to argue on our constitution in the media because this is what these attention seekers will derive satisfaction from.
The fact that they recognise a chairperson they consider to have been elected illegally shows that they are only playing to the gallery, and may be afraid of appearing before the disciplinary hearing.
The party will comment after their case has been properly considered in accordance with our constitutional provisions.

Insiders claim that the seven suspended party leaders were unofficially dismissed for criticising Mwonzora’s leadership, and the opposition used the impending disciplinary process as a public relations gimmick.
According to reports, the suspended leaders are currently developing a plan to contest their expulsion and Mwonzora’s authority.
They attribute the party’s unpopularity and dismal performance in last year’s by-elections to Mwonzora’s strategies.

Mudzuri, 6 Other MDC Officials Say Their Suspension Was Unlawful

Former MDC vice president Elias Mudzuri and six other party officials have rejected their suspension by the party.
On Monday 16 January, MDC national chairperson Solomon Chikohwero announced the suspension of seven officials saying they face serious disciplinary charges, which he however, did not specify.
The seven are Mudzuri, Norest Marara, Gift Konjana, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara and Edward Kakora.
In response to their suspension, Mudzuri and the other officials challenged Mwonzora and Chikohwero’s legitimacy, saying the offices of party president and national chairman are vacant.
In a letter addressed to the MDC Council, Mwonzora and Chikohwero, the seven said they will continue to perform their duties in the party. They wrote:

First and foremost, it is imperative that we put the subject matter into context.
As per 6.4.4.1 of the MDC Constitution, The President and National Chairman of the party together with the rest of the Standing Committee office bearers shall be elected at Congress.
Since no congress has been held according to the tenets of the party constitution, the offices stipulated in 6.4.4.1 are deemed to remain vacant.
Any individual seeking to usurp powers vested in 6.4.4.1 is acting ultra-vies the party constitution and any actions, announcements, or representations from such individuals are null and void.
We the “seven” as listed below vow to continue working to uplift the values, principles, and ethos of the Movement for Democratic Change as we engage the grassroots toward a people-driven Congress.

Marara is the Secretary for Party Business and Projects, Konjana is MDC Chairperson in Mashonaland West Province, Nyika is MDC Chairperson in Masvingo Province, Moyo is MDC Chairperson USA Province, Dzambara is Secretary for Education and Kakora is a National Executive Member.

Suspended MDC Officials Challenge Mwonzora's Legitimacy, Vow To Remain In Office

The MDC-led by Douglas Mwonzora has suspended seven senior members among them Elias Mudzuri pending investigations and disciplinary action by the party.
In a statement, MDC national chairperson Solomon Chikohwero said the seven are facing serious disciplinary charges, which he however, did not specify. Read the statement:

The Movement for Democratic Change has with effect today the 16th of January 2023, suspended the following members from the party pending investigations and disciplinary action:-
1. Hon. Senator Elias Mudzuri- former VP

4. Mr. John Nyika – Chairperson Masvingo Province

These members are facing serious disciplinary charges and their suspensions are in terms of Clause 9.1.2.3 of the Party’s Constitution.
The hearings will be conducted in terms of the MDC Constitution and their rights as accused persons will be respected.

MDC Suspends Seven Senior Officials

With only two before the MDC-T holds its 5th Ordinary Congress, the party’s deputy president Elias Mudzuri insists that he will not contest for any position. The party’s ordinary congress is set for 18 December 2022.
Mudzuri was reportedly planning to challenge party president Douglas Mwonzora before the latter was in November unanimously nominated as the sole presidential candidate at the party’s 5th Ordinary Congress. <a href="https://twitter.com/EngMudzuri/status/1603421396956508161">In a Twitter post</a> on Thursday, 15 December, Mudzuri said:
<blockquote>
Let me reiterate what I stated earlier. I will not stand for any position at the 18 December MDC Congress.
I will only participate in a process where the branches, wards, districts, and provinces are involved by exercising their constitutional right to choose their leaders.
</blockquote>
Earlier this month, Mudzuri said that he will not be contesting for any post at the congress citing irregularities in the party’s electoral processes.
Speaking to <a href="https://tellzim.com/mudzuri-slams-mwonzora/">TellZim News</a>, Mudzuri said he will not leave the party but will remain a card-carrying and loyal member of the party. He said:
<blockquote>
I am ashamed of what is happening right now but I cannot run away from the party, I have talked to them and I will continue to talk to them but if they don’t listen, I will remain a card-carrying member as I cannot be part of the leadership which fails to observe the democratic tenets of the party.
I can be nominated for any position in the party and have at some point assumed the leadership of the party as you know when Mr (Morgan) Tsvangirai died, he left me in charge of the party.

Meanwhile, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mwonzora-dismisses-claims-that-mdc-ts-nomination-process-was-unprocedural/">Mwonzora recently dismissed claims that the party carried out a dubious nomination process</a> ahead of the upcoming congress.

I Won't Stand For Any Position At Congress - Mudzuri

MDC vice president Elias Mudzuri has said he will not be contesting for any post at the upcoming congress citing irregularities in the party’s electoral processes.
This comes after the opposition party’s National Council nominated party leader Douglas Mwonzora as the sole presidential candidate at the party’s 5th Ordinary Congress set for 18 December this year.
In a leaked WhatsApp conversation, Mudzuri said he does not agree with the whole process and will only change his stance if the process becomes transparent and democratic. He said:
<blockquote>
Thank you to all members of the MDC family who have expressed their wish that I stand for re-election as second Vice President of the party at the coming 5th congress.
Please take note that I will not submit myself for that election for any position. I will however remain a committed card-carrying member of the party.
I am not in agreement with the process so I stand conflicted to vie for any position until and unless the process becomes transparent and democratic including knowledge of the colligate from ward to province.
</blockquote>
Contacted for comment to <a href="https://tellzim.com/mudzuri-slams-mwonzora/">TellZim News</a>, Mudzuri confirmed the development. He said:
<blockquote>
I cannot be nominated by the elite members of the party, nominations should start at the grassroots level.
We are 22 years as a party and that is what we have been doing all along.
I cannot be nominated by my friends, that is not what we do as a party.

He said will not leave the party but will remain a card-carrying and loyal member of the party. Said Mudzuri:

The victim’s mother Netsai Mukumbira told ZimLive that they woke up on Thursday to unknown men performing rituals on the grave. She said:
<blockquote>We woke up to this abomination at our home early this morning. We saw these people at the grave of our son in the early hours of the morning and we couldn’t see their faces clearly.
They left some sprinkled bloodstains, salt, some red and a white cloth along with a clay pot [hari] at the grave.</blockquote>

She said they just took pictures of the scene as they were “afraid to confront them because we might get arrested.”
Sekuru Kafera, a traditional healer based in Chitungwiza explained that the ritual was meant to “appease the deceased so that he may not avenge those who killed him.” He added:
<blockquote>They do this by acquiring blood from a lamb or goat which hasn’t had any blemish. They take this blood and sprinkle it at the head side of the grave as a cleansing rite.
All this is done so that they be not haunted by the one they killed and they will wait for someone to get these things.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has ordered the Mukumbira family to take the dead body of Ronald Mukumbira they left at Elias Mudzuri’s home in Zaka.
Ronald died following brutal assault – allegedly by Mudzuri, the MDC-T Vice President and other men, allegedly over missing pool table balls, which Mukumbira was accused of stealing.

The family’s spokesperson said police ordered them to take back his body saying they have instructions “from the top.”
Commenting on the matter, some social media users said the culture of dumping dead bodies at the alleged killers’ places must fall.
Others observed that the bereaved family was acting this way because it was suspecting that the police was covering up a murder case.
Others urged the politician to meet with the bereaved family and have talks on the way forward adding that the payment of reparations does not resurrect the dead but brings peace between the families.

The family of Ronald Mukumbira, a man who died following brutal assault – allegedly by MDC-T Vice President Elias Mudzuri – Wednesday morning left the body of the deceased at Mudzuri’s home.
The body was left on a verandah at Mudzuri’s home in the Four Miles area of Zaka at 6 AM this morning.

The 23-year-old died on June 10, three days after he was brutally assaulted at Mudzuri’s Duriro Pub &amp; Grill in Harare’s Workington industrial area, allegedly over missing pool table balls, which Mukumbira was accused of stealing.
After he was treated and discharged from Sally Mugabe Hospital, Mukumbira allegedly told his mother, Netsai Mukumbira, that he had been attacked by the former Harare mayor, his brother Leonard Mudzuri and other unnamed men.
Speaking to ZimLive by phone, Netsai said:
<blockquote>_We took the body to the Mudzuri homestead this morning. There were people at the homestead, they watched through the curtains. We left the body by the verandah, and we wait and see what they do with it._</blockquote>
The Mukumbira family is angry that police have not arrested Mudzuri, and their mood was not lifted by a post-mortem report which did not link the assault to the death.
According to the victim’s mother, the pathologist wrote that “police to investigate.
The family fears that police are unable to arrest Mudzuri because of his and his party’s links to the ruling Zanu PF party, which is associated with impunity.

Dead Body Left At House Of Murder-Accused Mudzuri

MDC-T vice president Elias Mudzuri faces arrest over the murder of 23-year-old Epworth man, ZimLive reports.
Mudzuri was named by Ronald Mukumbira as one of three people who brutally assaulted him at a bar in Harare on 7 June. The assault victim died three days later.
An internal police memo dated June 11, 2021, seen by ZimLive says Mukumbira was drinking beer at Duriro Pub &amp; Grill in the Workington industrial area when he was assaulted “with unknown weapons” by Mudzuri and others.
Mudzuri reportedly owns the Duriro, while Leonard is thought to be related to the former Harare mayor.
Police said Mukumbira was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital at around 3.30 AM with a deep cut on the head and injuries on the ribs and knees.
Mukumbira was treated and discharged, arriving home in Epworth at about 3 PM the same day. The memo read:
<blockquote>Upon arrival at his place of residence, Mukumbira told his mother Netsai Mukumbira that he was assaulted by Elias Mudzuri, Leonard Mudzuri and other unknown accused persons at Duriro bar.</blockquote>
Police further said Mukumbira stopped talking soon after recounting his ordeal and he died at 7 PM on 10 June.
Mukumbira’s body was taken to Tayedzwa Funeral Service but is expected to be ferried to a government hospital for a post-mortem.
“We’re very keen to question Elias Mudzuri. We should make an arrest this weekend,” a police source told ZimLive on Saturday.
Mudzuri was reportedly not answering calls on Saturday, while MDC-T spokesman Witness Dube said the party will not comment on the matter since it is under investigation by the police.

MDC-T VP Elias Mudzuri Faces Arrest For Murder

The opposition MDC-T has amended its constitution to create the position of second vice president of the party.
This was announced by the party’s spokesperson Witness Dube in a statement following meetings of the National Executive and National Council held virtually this Saturday.
Former interim leader Thokozani Khupe is now the party’s first vice president, with former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri appointed the second vice president. Said, Dube:
<blockquote>The National Council, sitting as an extension of Congress, moved to amend the MDC constitution to create the position of a Second Vice President of the party.
This was an effort in aligning the party constitution with that of the country, as well as closing a leadership vacuum that has the potential of creating instability within the party.
In that regard, Hon Senator Elias Mudzuri is now officially the Second Vice President of the MDC-T, with Dr Thokozani Khupe as 1st Vice President.</blockquote>
Former organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe, who was fired from the party after he emerged as the likely candidate to win the presidency ahead of the extraordinary congress held last year has been readmitted to the party. Dube added:
<blockquote>The National Council considered and resolved to re-admit everyone who has expressed the desire to re-join the party.
Notably, former National Organising Secretary Abednego Bhebhe and former Deputy Chairperson of Bulawayo Province Dorcas Sibanda were duly readmitted into the party as per their expression of interest.</blockquote>
Dube also said the National Council resolved to appoint a committee of six officials to come up with a position paper that deals with the strategic issues and objectives of the dialogue.

Khupe, Mudzuri Appointed MDC-T Vice Presidents

Tinashe Kairiza writing for the Zimbabwe Independent has said the chaotic MDC Congress that was held on Sunday has diminished the party’s chances of defeating the ruling party in the 2023 elections.
Kairiza quoted different analysts and politicians who commented on the congress and opined that:
<blockquote>THIS week’s chaotic MDC-T extraordinary congress which was controversially won by party secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora against rivals Thokozani Khupe, Elias Mudzuri and Morgan Komichi dealt the opposition a lethal blow and further diminished any chances of a formidable challenge against Zanu PF in the 2023 general elections.
The congress, which was held at the instigation of the High Court after a protracted legal battle with MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa over the identity and legitimate leadership of the MDC-T was marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging.
Before the congress, the main opposition suffered a split after the Supreme Court ruled that Chamisa was an illegitimate successor of MDC-T founder Morgan Tsvangirai, who died in 2018 of colon cancer.
Chamisa had been embroiled in a leadership tussle with Thokozani Khupe, the leader of the rival MDC-T.
Mwonzora, who is accused of misappropriating funds from party coffers, polled 883 votes out of 1 027 ballots cast. Khupe trailed at 318, Mudzuri 14 and Komichi with a yawning nine.
The results were announced by the MDC-T’s independent electoral management body. Perhaps sensing defeat, Khupe, had on the day of voting, suspended Mwonzora from his position on allegations of misappropriating party funds. But Mwonzora dismissed the suspension, which he said was null and void.
The irony of the vote, for a party which claimed to be the bona fide opposition of the country when it tussled with Chamisa for the control of the heart and soul of MDC-T, was not lost to MDC-Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, who chided the party for mustering barely over 1 000 delegates at its congress. “Zanu PF wants to tell Zimbabweans that a party with barely a thousand congress delegates is the ‘main opposition’. A true festival of absurdities,” Mahere said on microblogging site Twitter.
Prior to the controversial congress, which has since been dismissed as a charade by Khupe, Komichi and Mudzuri, MDC-T had recalled a number of legislators who had won the 2018 Parliamentary elections on an MDC-Alliance vote for siding with Chamisa. In the process, the MDC-T, acting on the strength of the Supreme Court ruling also occupied Harvest House, which has been the party’s headquarters since its formation in 1999.
The recalling of the legislators, which was upheld by the court and Speaker of the House of Assembly Jacob Mudenda was also seen by critics as the further emasculation of the opposition by external forces, notably President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF.
Notably, the congress was marred by violence, which climaxed with Khupe being manhandled and a barrage of abusive rants directed at her, for a party, alongside its various offshoots, which has expressed abhorrence for intimidation and violence.
Commenting on the political circus in the MDC-T, prominent lawyer Alex Magaisa noted that the farcical congress showed that “the judicially-reconstructed entity was a political error from the start.”
“A quorum is the minimum number of people required for a valid meeting. The inquorate congress requires another congress to validate its decisions. But the mere fact that a political party is unable to summon enough people to form a quorum is a huge political embarrassment. But even then, they could not manage the small numbers. Three candidates walked out, citing rigging. As if it wasn’t farcical already, Khupe claimed to have suspended her competitor, Mwonzora, in the middle of the congress, which was marred by despicable violence aimed at her,” Magaisa wrote this week.
“The judicially-reconstructed entity was a political error from the start. Khupe abandoned her party and was lured by the promise of power in a bigger entity. But the court does not command people. She must be the only one who didn’t see that she was a mere pawn in all this.” 
Magaisa warned that with the splinter MDC-T now in disarray, Zanu PF was going to be the biggest beneficiary, as Zimbabwe hurtles towards the polls due in 2023. 
“Expect some skeletons to come tumbling out of the cupboards. And there are quite a few skeletons in those cupboards; the regime keeps them for moments like this when they become handy. They will be repackaged and some may soon find themselves as unwilling guests of the state.
“Unfortunately, because they (MDC-T) relieved themselves in the village well, there will be no sympathy for them among members of the public. To avoid this circumstance, they will have to fall at the feet of the regime, with a promise of obedient opposition,” Magaisa wrote.
Political analyst Alexander Rusero contends that Zanu PF, which has been preoccupied with forging a de facto one party state since 1980 will be the biggest beneficiary of the unfolding crisis within the ranks of MDC T, and the broader opposition.
“I think you have to contextualise the dynamics of opposition politics in Zimbabwe. Remember the primary focus of Zanu PF since 1980 has been the total decimation of the opposition. That has always been part of the Zanu PF national question; it is to do away with the opposition, it is to eliminate the opposition. You must consider how Zapu was walloped. Consider how Zum was decimated,” Rusero said.
Zapu was the party of Joshua Nkomo while Zum was that of Edgar Tekere, both stalwarts of the liberation struggle.
“The recent charade of Mwonzora at HICC, the seizure of party assets and firing of senators; it is a Zanu project. There is a need to rejuvenate the marriages of convenience among the opposition groups. The opposition now has more problems rocking them. If there is no climbing down of egos from opposition leaders there is nothing we can expect from them in 2023.”</blockquote>

MDC-T presidential aspirant Elias Mudzuri said the party is not ready to hold its Supreme Court-ordered extraordinary congress (EOC) slatted for Sunday at the HICC.
In a circular to delegates, Mudzuri said the party had no money to hold the EOC after some party officials misappropriated US$60 000 which was advanced to the party by government under the Political Parties Finance Act
Mudzuri further said there are confusing messages about the venue for the EOC and also the party’s failure to finalise the voters’ roll. He said:
<blockquote>As things stand, there is no money for congress as the US$60 000 meant for the party was fraudulently moved from the party’s account without the express approval of the treasurer and the standing committee.
The voters roll had not been finalised up to 17:30hours today (yesterday).</blockquote>
Meanwhile, MDC-T deputy chairperson Morgen Komichi confirmed that Government gave permission for the party to hold the EOC at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende claimed that the ruling ZANU PF party booked the MDC-T at the HICC “to ensure that their project of running an opposition party in Zimbabwe succeeds”.

Mudzuri: MDC-T Has No Money To Hold Extraordinary Congress

Former Cabinet Minister and MDC T bigwig Elias Mudzuri while speaking to the Daily News said all factions in the MDC T and the MDC Alliance should sit down and talk and accept their weaknesses because they cannot approach President Mnangagwa if they are still divided to dialogue with him about trying to find a solution to the Zimbabwean crisis.
Mudzuri said:
<blockquote>As senior leaders in the MDC, we need to sit down and talk. Everyone must accept his or her weaknesses, and we must tell each other the truth.
Unity is the best way forward … we cannot continue fighting like this. We are one family, we worked together for 20 years and it’s easy for us to work together again. In Shona they say mukanetsana siyai peukama.
Building unity is a process and it’s not a one day thing. I think before 2023 we will talk together and find common ground,
So, there is a need to talk to each other before we engage Zanu PF. At the moment the opposition is divided. So, Zanu PF will take advantage of that.
We must be able to talk to Zanu PF because we are all Zimbabweans and we must build this country together. Factionalism must end so that we work to build our party. As Zimbabweans, we must work to build strong government institutions.</blockquote>
The infighting started in March this year when the supreme court declared Khupe the MDC T rightful leader and the faction led by <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/01/khupe-recalls-10-mdc-alliance-mps/">Khupe started recalling legislators and councilors</a> elected using the MDC Alliance cards till Khupe herself came back into the Parliament as the leader of the opposition through proportional representation.

Chamisa, Khupe Fight Hindering Us From Dialoguing With ED - Mudzuri

Senior MDC-T official, Elias Mudzuri has said it is a mammoth task to dislodge ZANU PF from power even after winning the election.
The former energy minister made the remarks on Friday <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/24/mudzuri-announces-mdc-t-presidential-bid/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">at the launch of his MDC-T presidential campaign</a> at his residence in Harare’s Milton Park suburb ahead of the court-sanctioned extraordinary congress slated for December this year. He said:
<blockquote>Once we engage and talk, and there is trust between the military and the political groupings, it is easier to take power.
As you know, you cannot take power without the consent of the military, and right now we have a military government whether you like it or not. We have to negotiate power with the powers that be. Even if you have almost 100 percent votes, you may not get power.</blockquote>
Mudzuri speaks when there is a stand-off between opposition MDC Alliance and the ruling ZANU PF over the 2018 presidential elections which the former says was stolen.
Since its formation, MDC has often claimed that the ruling party was conniving with the election management body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to manipulate election results in favour of ZANU PF candidates.
In 2008, the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Morgan Tsvangirai who was the presidential candidate of the MDC won the election but ZEC said he had failed to acquire the required 50 plus one percent of votes required for him to ascend to power.
ZEC ordered a run-off election that was preceded by bloodshed as the ruling party reportedly unleashed soldiers and war veterans to intimidate the electorate.
ZANU PF’s candidate, the late former president Robert Mugabe eventually won as Tsvangirai pulled out from the race at the last hour saying his supporters were being brutalised.
Some political analysts say elections in Zimbabwe and indeed Africa at large are not a true reflection of the electorate’s will.

"Almost 100% Votes May Not Get You Power" - Mudzuri

Elias Mudzuri, an MDC-T senior official on Friday announced that he will run for the party’s presidency at the court-ordered extraordinary congress to be held in December 2020.
Mudzuri’s elevation to the MDC-T vice presidency in 2016 by the then president Morgan Tsvangirai was quashed by the Supreme Court in 2020, making Thokozani Khupe the party’s interim leader.
The former Harare mayor told a news conference yesterday that if elected, he will bring back to the party those who have turned their backs on it or have been expelled. He said:
<blockquote>If elected as MDC-T president, I will bring back all those that have walked away or chased away from the MDC-T and form a united party to challenge Zanu PF in 2023. We need to focus more on the 2023 general elections than infighting in MDC-T.
I will spend time reflecting on developments in my party. I am offering my candidature and will greatly serve and bring change in the party and country.</blockquote>
Secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora and vice-chairman Morgen Komichi are also rumoured to be eyeing the presidency.
In late March this year, the Supreme Court upheld a ruling by the High Court which nullified the appointments of Nelson Chamisa and Mudzuri as deputies by Tsvangirai in 2016.
The court ruling effectively installed Khupe as interim leader and ordered her to call an extraordinary congress to elect new leadership.
Chamisa, who now leads the country’s biggest opposition the MDC Alliance, says he will not attend the MDC-T extraordinary congress.

Mudzuri Announces MDC-T Presidential Bid

Mudzuri who at one point was aiming to be elected the court resurrected MDC T’s party president in a tweet said he tested negative for the Novel coronavirus and thanked his supporters for their thoughts and prayers. Said Mudzuri:

COVID-19 has so far claimed the lives of 228 Zimbabweans according to the Health Ministry which also said only one out of 467 people that were tested for COVID-19 yesterday tested positive. Mudzuri Recovers From COVId-19

<div>Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy, Advocate Fortune Chasi has suggested that it was long until the country sees the end of the fuel crisis which has had devastating effects to all sectors of the economy in the Southern African country.</div>

<div>Chasi was responding to a question by MDC senator Elias Mudzuri who wanted the Energy minister to tell senate during a question and answer session on Thursday what the government was doing to address the issue that is causing elongated queues. Mudzuri had asked:</div>

<div>I have been looking for fuel myself as a Member of Parliament for more than three months. I still have coupons from Parliament which are three months old. Also, we are looking at the public and the business community, how are we planning to service everyone with reasonable supplies of fuel?</div>
</blockquote>
<div>In his response, Chasi admitted that they were facing challenges over the issue. He said:</div>

<div>I think the nexus between the availability of foreign currency and the availability of fuel in the country is known to all of us.  It is also common cause, I think, that over the number of months foregoing since the commencement of this pandemic, our capacity to generate foreign currency for our own purposes as a country was heavily affected.</div>

Govt Speaks On The Prolonged Fuel Crisis

Interim MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe’s spokesperson Khalipani Phungeni said that the smaller MDC-T no longer exists following the Supreme Court ruling which ordered the party to hold an extraordinary congress to replace the late former president Morgan Tsvangirai who died in 2018.
Phungeni’s comments come after former MDC-T co-vice president Elias Mudzuri accused Khupe of clinging on to the leadership of the smaller MDC-T while also retaining control of the original MDC-T.
The original MDC-T split in 2018 soon after Tsvangirai’s demise, with Khupe leading the smaller faction which retained the party’s name.
Phungeni suggested that Mudzuri was bitter because he lost the deputy president post which he had acquired illegally. Said Phungeni:
<blockquote>You will appreciate that this man (Mudzuri) has been referring to some non-existent outfit supposedly led by the acting president, Dr Khupe.
We have correctly ignored him in the past because we sympathise with him.
Losing an illegally acquired position could not be easy for anyone, therefore the ‘fixation’ is understood.</blockquote>
Mudzuri was in 2016 appointed co-vice president, alongside Nelson Chamisa, of the then Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC-T, a position that was reversed in retrospect by the Supreme Court in March this year.

Khupe Responds To 'Offside' Mudzuri

Former MDC T Vice President Elias Mudzuri has said contrary to what people are saying that Khupe only became the interim president of the MDC T after the supreme court made her the leader, and they have joined her MDC T Bulawayo party,  she was always the rightful leader after she was elected at the party’s congress in 2014.
Mudzuri tweeted:
<blockquote>It is a lie that the Supreme Court ruling gave us a leader and made us join Dr Khupe’s Byo Congress party. We are MDC whose founding president was Dr Tsvangirai. Dr Khupe’s legitimacy as Acting President is derived from the 2014 Congress which elected her VP.</blockquote>
This comes amid a leadership wrangle between Thokozani Khupe and Nelson Chamisa that was escalated by the Supreme Court ruling that declared Chamisa an illegitimate MDC leader and restored the party’s 2014 structures.

We Have Not Joined Khupe's Bulawayo MDC T Party, We Are Are Members Of The MDC That Was Formed By Tsvangirai- Mudzuri

Former MDC vice president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Elias_Mudzuri" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Elias Mudzuri</a> has condemned what he calls the unwarranted intimidation of the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) by the MDC Alliance leaders.
Mudzuri says such intimidation tactics are a form of Fascism (a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism). He said:
<blockquote>Fascism starts with unwarranted intimidation of respectable Members of Parliament so as to coerce them to toe the line.
Party deployees must be treated with the dignity and respect commensurate with their status in society to avoid putting the name of the party into disrepute.</blockquote>
Mudzuri also criticised the decision by the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance to order its MPs to boycott Parliament in protest over the expulsion of four of its legislators by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T faction.
Mudzuri has since dumped the MDC Alliance party and joined MDC-T following a Supreme Court ruling which nullified the National Council’s decision to elect Chamisa to succeed founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai who died in February 2018. Said Mudzuri:
<blockquote>Parliament’s main institutional function is to make laws and constitution. For MPs to boycott Parly in support of those that breach constitutions, disrespect courts and rule of law is taking the electorate for granted.</blockquote>

Chamisa And His Cabal Are Fascists - Mudzuri

Former MDC-T vice president Elias Mudzuri says newcomers and renegades in the party such as MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende are creating confusion.
Mudzuri joined the MDC faction led by Nelson Chamisa when the party split in 2018 following the death of founding president Morgan Tsvangirai.
However, following a Supreme Court ruling which ordered the party to revert to its 2014 structures and to hold an extraordinary congress to elect new leaders within three months, Mudzuri abandoned Chamisa’s MDC Alliance and rejoined the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.
Speaking to Business Times this week, Mudzuri said he nurtured Chamisa who is like his own son but the “Mafikizolos” and those who once left the party [Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala, Welshman Ncube, etc] are causing disharmony in the opposition party. He said:
<blockquote>… We have newcomers like Charlton Hwende who are saying they have expelled me and what have I done wrong to be fought in that way.
I have been fought by the people since I was a mayor and some of these people wanted to expel me and they later left the party and formed their own political parties and have come back and joined us again and we have welcomed them back and everyone in the party structures knows they are causing a lot of trouble.</blockquote>
Mudzuri is reportedly mulling plans to challenge for the MDC-T presidency at the extraordinary congress to be held on 31 July this year.
Reports indicate that Douglas Mwonzora, Gift Chimanikire and Thokozani Khupe are also eyeing the top post while Morgen Komichi will likely go for the vice president’s post, with Abednico Bhebhe eyeing the organising secretary post.

Mudzuri Accuses Newcomers And 'Renegades' Of Causing Confusion In The MDC

A leader in the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party Elias Mudzuri who is strongly aligned to the camp led by the party’s reinstated leader Thokozani Khupe has dismissed allegations of infiltration by the ruling ZANU PF.
His remarks come after Job Sikhala, MDC legislator for Zengeza West and one of the bigwigs in the other faction led by <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/08/look-at-my-face-and-tell-me-im-joking-sikhala-vows-to-deal-with-ed-again/">Nelson Chamisa has vowed to ‘deal’ with President Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> for meddling with MDC internal affairs.
Posting on Twitter on Saturday, Mudzuri said:
<blockquote>Assertions that ZANU PF is involved in the affairs of MDC are mere hallucinations triggered by denialism and refusal to accept responsibility for what we have done wrong. Extraordinary Congress is the only remedy.</blockquote>
His remarks resonate with those of ZANU PF Political Commissar, Victor Matemadanda who dismissed Sikhala’s assertions as child’s play.
Responding to Sikhala’s assertion on Friday, Matemadanda said that President Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF party were preoccupied with national issues affecting the general populace hence no time for “sideshows”.
He added that although ZANU PF enjoys having the MDC as its opposition, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/08/we-enjoy-having-mdc-as-opposition-but-we-dont-wish-them-dead-zanu-pf/">the ruling party does not wish the MDC dead</a> therefore leaders in the opposition must sober up and address their issues without pointing fingers “at innocent people.”
