The arrest of suspected land barons across the country has reportedly divided ZANU PF as some of the targeted individuals believe they are being used to settle scores.
Last month, ZANU PF issued a statement distancing itself from some of its officials who were allegedly involved in the invasion of farms, especially in urban areas where they sold housing stands to home seekers.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has also arrested several suspected land barons across the country.
Some of the suspected land barons who spoke to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200021802/blitz-against-land-barons-divides-zanu-pf">The Standard</a> over the weekend said that it was unfair that they were being targeted after helping President Emmerson Mnangagwa and ZANU PF win last year’s elections.
Arrests in connection with the illegal sale of State land were made in Mutare, Chivhu and Nyabira.
In Chivhu, more than 33 villagers are resisting an eviction order claiming that ZANU PF officials were planning to resettle some officials on the land after the completion of the Chivhu Dam.
Suspended ZANU PF Mutare district coordinating committee chairman Binali Yard and some members of his committee were arrested and spent the Christmas holidays behind bars for allegedly selling land in Mutare’s Gimboki area.
Some war veterans were arrested after grabbing a farm in Nyabira and parcelling out residential stands.
A Harare land developer, who spoke on condition of anonymity said (via The Standard):

Some individuals are being targeted and there is a list of members who are being targeted for the arrests.
Surprisingly, this is also being done on factional lines.
If you know that you don’t support President Emmerson Mnangagwa while backing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, you are in trouble.

Reports claim Mnangagwa and Chiwenga lead different factions in ZANU PF that are tussling to control the former liberation movement.
A senior ZANU PF official claimed that most land barons had the backing of powerful individuals in the party’s structures. He said:
<blockquote>
Many reports have been made against the land barons even at the party, but some are untouchable since they represent some powerful individuals.
To become a land baron you will have to have some paperwork.
You cannot be a land baron without paperwork. They have some form of documentation.
The papers might not be in order, but they will have something that equips them with powers to distribute land.
Even if they are arrested most of the cases usually die with the perpetrators rarely facing any consequences.
That is the reason most of them remain in the structures so that they protect their interests.
Most people in leadership positions from provinces to districts are also involved in land deals, but they target agricultural land in conjunction with land officials.

ZANU PF Director of Information and Publicity Farai Marapira dismissed reports of factionalism caused by the arrests of land barons. He said:

ZANU PF is never divided, especially concerning issues of illegality. ZANU PF is united over the issue of addressing land barons and will leave no stone unturned to ensure this scourge is dealt with.

The illegal activities of land barons have resulted in the mushrooming of shanty settlements across the country and the construction of homes on wetlands and riverbanks in urban areas.

Arrest Of Land Barons Divides ZANU PF

Factional fights have reportedly rocked ZANU PF Harare provincial structures, with some members accusing provincial chairperson <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Godwills_Masimirembwa">Godwills Masimirembwa</a> of sabotaging <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Pedzai_Sakupwanya">Pedzai Sakupwanya</a>‘s campaign ahead of the 09 December by-elections.
Sakukwanya, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is running for the Mabvuku-Tafara National Assembly constituency seat for a second time against CCC’s Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi.
Kufahakutizwi was declared the winner in the 23-24 August harmonised elections but was recalled in October by CCC’s self-proclaimed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu, prompting a by-election.
Reports indicate that Sakupwanya’s candidature has divided ZANU PF Harare structures following allegations that the Masimirembwa executive is blocking influential party members from the province to campaign for him.
An audio clip leaked to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200019844/sakupwanya-candidature-divides-zanu-pf">NewsDay</a> exposes the divisions in ZANU PF. In the audio, a party member who identified himself as comrade Nyokai Mabhunu lambasts Masimirembwa for allegedly sabotaging Sakupwanya. Said Mabhunu:

What you are doing chairman Godwills Masimirembwa is not good. You are selecting who should go and not to campaign for our Mabvuku-Tafara candidate Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya.
Those people who are powerful in mobilising are not allowed to go and campaign while CCC was on the ground.
To the intelligence people, I want this video to go before the President. Scott cannot continue to lose. What wrong has he done for you to block him?
Scott himself has already admitted that he lost last time because he was sabotaged by Harare province. There is a need for Harare province to reform.
Masimirembwa, Masimirembwa, Masimirembwa, your personal interest is too much. You should put the interests of the party first. You are a grown-up man.
When are you retiring from your position as chairman to allow the party to move forward in Harare?
It’s better you go to the central committee and be idle because you are killing (sic) Harare.
</blockquote>
Efforts by NewsDay to get a comment from Masimirembwa on Monday were fruitless as he was not picking up calls.
He was, however, quoted recently pledging to do all within his capacity to ensure that Sakupwanya wins the seat.
ZANU PF director for information Farai Marapira urged party members to unite despite professing ignorance about the audio. Said Marapira:

I am not in possession of such audio, but such behaviour will be against the ethos of the revolutionary party because ZANU PF was founded on the principles of unity.
I cannot comment much, but this is very much not ZANU PF behaviour. If Sakupwanya wins, it is a victory for the party.

In the August general elections, Kufahakutizwi garnered 15 934 votes against Sakupwany’s 12 038 votes.

Pedzai Sakupwanya Candidature Divides ZANU PF

A vehicle belonging to a leader of the African Apostolic Church led by <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Paul_Mwazha">Paul Mwazha</a> was burnt to ashes in Mutare the Sunday before last Sunday.
The <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/mwazha-succession-dispute-turns-nasty/">Manica Post</a> reported that the African Apostolic Church now has three factions, with each one of them led by Mwazha’s sons.
Bishop Tekeshe’s Isuzu truck was burnt to ashes at his Fern Valley home, with insiders claiming that it was due to the endless disputes over control of the church.
Tekeshe is reportedly aligned to Bishop Alfred Kushamisa, the Archbishop’s second-born son.
When contacted for comment by The Manica Post, one of the other faction’s leaders, Bishop Moses Mwagura said:

This issue is very clear and you should not have challenges in reporting it. It all started with some people trying to wrestle control of the church from Mutumwa Mwazha.
They were later defeated at the Supreme Court after it was ruled that their actions were unconstitutional.
Now, as time is progressing, we are now witnessing a division between Ngoni, Archbishop Paul Mwazha’s firstborn son and his second-born son, Alfred Kushamisa, known as AK.
They are now up against each other, leading to the nasty destruction of property. This has nothing to do with our church.
We are actually concerned that this is happening to people we used to congregate with.
This is not what we would have expected from people who claim to be Christians and who follow the peaceful word of our Lord.

The three factions are allegedly led by Bishop Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha, Bishop Tawanda Mwazha and Bishop Ngoni Mwazha, respectively.
The divisions within the African Apostolic Church have resulted in the formations appointing their own pastors and leaders while conducting services at different places of worship.

Paul Mwazha Church Bishop's Vehicle Burnt To Ashes

ZANU PF supporters in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s home province, Midlands, are reportedly rejecting recently elected party candidates in more than 10 constituencies.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200011868/zanu-pf-grassroots-reject-2023-candidates">The Standard</a> reported sources as saying a protest vote is probable in constituencies where Mnangagwa’s allies allegedly manipulated voting during primary elections and deployed their associates to represent ZANU PF in the upcoming general elections.
Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo, former State Security Minister Owen Ncube, politburo member Mackenzie Ncube and Tsitsi Muzenda allegedly interfered with the running of the elections by Forever Associate Zimbabwe (FAZ) and Heritage Trust to ensure that “their people” won.
The FAZ, which is controlled by the Central Intelligence Organisation and the Heritage Trust linked to the army, ran ZANU PF primary elections.
ZANU PF supporters are reportedly not happy with the party’s candidates in Zvishavane, Chirumanzi-Zibagwe, Mkoba South, Mkoba Urban, Vungu, Redcliff-Silobela, Kwekwe Central, Mbizo, Gokwe North , Gokwe-Kana, Gokwe-Chireya, Gokwe South, Shurugwi North, Shurugwi South, Mberengwa and Gokwe Sesame. The Standard quoted a party insider as saying:

In Zvishavane-Runde, more than 10 districts did not vote because ward 7 councillor Mecky Jaravaza, who is also the district coordinating chairperson (DCC), elbowed out Dumezweni Mawite and declared himself the winner.
Larry Mavima was also elbowed out by the same DCC.
In Mberengwa, MPs Marko Raidza and Makhosini Hlongwane were also pushed out because they were not on the July Moyo/Mudha list.
In Chirumanzi district, Barbara Rwodzi ran the show and videos are there where she was forcing people to vote for her.
In Shurugwi North, the sitting MP Ronald Nyathi was pushed out while in Gweru district where Zanu PF had one seat, the sitting MP for Vungu constituency, Omega Sibanda, was pushed out after ballot papers were forcibly taken away from a constituency consultant (FAZ member) by a sitting MP from Kwekwe.
Brown Ndlovu, who has been a perennial loser in Chiwundura, is now the Vungu constituency candidate.
In Kwekwe, Manoki Mpofu was pushed out of Silobela constituency for Jona Nyebvera while Energy Dhala Ncube, a nephew of the former State Security minister Owen Ncube was unchallenged in Kwekwe Central.
In Gokwe South, they imposed Tawanda Karikoga despite the fact that he stays in South Africa while Paul Mavima was uncontested despite scandals.
In Gokwe North, Mayor Wadyajena was pushed aside because he was not part of their team.

Last week, ZANU PF deployed Politburo member, Lovemore Matuke, who is secretary for security, to Midlands to deal with the simmering tensions but the meetings were poorly attended.
Mnangagwa recently said he will announce election dates before the end of the month. He said the general elections will be held in August.

ZANU PF Supporters In Midlands Reject 2023 Candidates

Some ZANU PF candidates for the upcoming general elections in Midlands Province are reportedly now resorting to commandeering traditional leaders to force their subjects to attend meetings due to poor attendance caused by disputed primary elections held in March.
Reports indicate that ZANU PF members have been snubbing meetings protesting the manner the party held its primary elections.
Thousands of bonafide members failed to vote after their names went missing from the voters’ roll giving an unfair advantage to some candidates.
ZANU PF secretary for security Lovemore Matuke will be in Gweru on Tuesday for a crisis meeting to deal with the simmering tensions.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200011574/zanu-pf-bigwigs-sweat-over-poor-rally-attendances">NewsDay</a> reported that on Friday, only 17 people attended a meeting organised by Gokwe-Nembudziya parliamentary candidate Flora Buka that was addressed by provincial political commissar Maud Ngwenya.
The meeting was held at the Nembudziya Rural District Council offices (Gokwe North) to mobilise support for the forthcoming elections.
According to a WhatsApp message that was circulated on Sunday, Buka has now called another meeting this Monday at the same venue.
She ordered chiefs and to order village heads to bring their subjects to meeting. Reads the message:

Mamuka sei nhasi, muudze masabhuku vauye nevanhu vavo vose kumusangano mangwana pa council pari kuuya national PC (good morning, can you tell the kraal heads to bring all their subjects for a meeting at the council offices which will be attended by the national PC).

Buka beat sitting MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena twice in an election the latter claimed was rigged.
ZANU PF ordered that re-runs be conducted in only five constituencies yet the party had received complaints of voter malpractices from over 150 of the 210 constituencies across the country.
ZANU PF primaries were run by Forever Associate Zimbabwe (FAZ), controlled by the Central Intelligence Organisation and Heritage, which is linked to the army, according to a report by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200011541/trouble-brewing-in-ed-backyard">The Standard</a>.
A ZANU PF internal document titled Talking Points dated 27 March 2023 revealed that FAZ, led by CIO deputy director-general Walter Tapfumaneyi had the major say in the elections.

ZANU PF Candidate Orders Traditional Leaders To Bring Subjects To Meetings

ZANU PF has expressed concern over the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC)’s activities in Gokwe North, Midlands Province which necessitated the deployment of senior party officials to the district.
Documents obtained by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200011541/trouble-brewing-in-ed-backyard">The Standard</a> show that ZANU Midlands provincial commissar Maud Gwenya was set to address members in Gokwe North.
A notice addressed to Wadyajena, the DCC chairperson and senior provincial member, Edson Chiherenge, reads:
<blockquote>
Please be advised that after noting the activities of the opposition party (CCC) in Gokwe North the province saw it fit to deploy the provincial commissar (Maud Gwenya) and her entourage to address meetings in the troubled areas you are to identify.
The provincial commissar will be at your disposal from the afternoon of (Thursday) May 11, 2023, to (Saturday) May 13, 2023.

Party members are reportedly avoiding meetings called by some party candidates raising fears within ZANU PF circles of a “bhora musango” scenario in the general elections scheduled to be held in August this year.
Former Cabinet minister Flora Buka, who beat sitting Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena on Friday called for a meeting that was attended by 17 party supporters.
ZANU PF supporters who spoke to The Standard said that most people were snubbing the party because they felt the primary elections were rigged.
Gokwe is considered a ZANU PF bastion as it is largely rural but last year CCC embarked on a nationwide rural mobilisation exercise code-named Mugwazo, in a bid to make inroads in areas considered ZANU PF strongholds.

CCC Activities In Gokwe Worry ZANU PF

The opposition ZAPU has expelled five senior members who took to court the party president, Sibangilizwe Nkomo, for allegedly failing to adhere to the party’s constitution and procedures.
The senior party members challenged Nkomo’s candidature at the Bulawayo High Court ahead of the party’s elective congress last year in October.
They later withdrew the court application after holding talks with Nkomo, but then decided to revive it two months ago.
The senior members were now seeking an order overturning the 2020 congress where Nkomo was elected.
ZAPU spokesperson Msongelwa Ndlovu identified the sacked members as Strike Mkandla , Matthew Sibanda, Ernest Ndlovu, Mildred Mkandla and Akim Nkala. Said Ndlovu:

It is with regret to announce to ZAPU members, supporters and sympathisers that after 12 months of attempting to unite the party after our congress, the following individuals have expelled themselves from the union.
Messars Strike Mkandla, Matthew Sibanda , Ernest Ndlovu, Mildred Mkandla and Akim Nkala have individually and collectively chosen a path designed to harm ZAPU in collaboration with those invested in this objective for many years now.
ZAPU has noted and accepted their decision and wishes them well in their future endeavors.
We call on our members to treat them with the same treatment reserved for all our political opponents.

Mkandla is the party’s former secretary -general while Sibanda is the party’s former Matebeleland South Province chairperson, while Mildred is the party‘s former chairperson for the women’s assembly.
Ndlovu pleaded with the general party membership to avoid cooperating with the expelled members for the unity of the party. He said:

We implore our members to avoid cooperating with them as doing so only helps to advance their objective to divide and eventually destroy the party.
Let us remain vigilant and focused on the ultimate objective of delivering our people from the yokes of ZANU PF intolerance, corruption, and incompetence.

ZAPU Expels Five Senior Members

Former ZANU PF national political commissar Retired Brigadier General Engelbert Rugeje was defeated by little-known Cecilia Chabaya in the 9 October 2022 Central Committee elections in Bikita.
<a href="https://tellzim.com/wheelchair-bound-woman-defeats-army-general-in-zanu-pf-cc-elections/">TellZim News</a> reported sources as saying Rugeje had to be rescued by Bikita South MP Josiah Sithole who withdrew from the race to pave way for him to find a spot on the committee. Said a source:

Rugeje lost to Gogo Chabaya, a Chadzamira loyalist and to neutralize Chadzamira’s hold in Bikita, they had to talk to Sithole to step down and pave way for Rugeje.

However, ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial spokesperson Ophias Murambiwa denied the claims, insisting that party rules dictated that Rugeje was not supposed to be contested. Said Murambiwa:

That’s a lie, Sithole could not pave way for Gen Rugeje because they are not from the same constituency.
What I know is Hon Madhuku (Johnson) is the one who submitted his CV and later withdrew.

ZANU PF Masvingo Province is reportedly divided into two groups, with one faction reportedly led by chairman Robson Mavhenyengwa while the other faction is allegedly led by his predecessor Ezra Chadzamira.
The two factions are said to be offshoots of the alleged ruling party factions between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.
Chadzamira, who is the Minister of State, is allegedly fronting the Mnangagwa faction while Mavhenyengwa leads the Chiwenga faction.
The Mavhenyengwa faction enjoys control of Gutu, Zaka, Chivi and Mwenezi districts and has a faction in Bikita while the Chadzamira faction has total hold of Masvingo and Chiredzi districts, reported TellZim News.
Other ZANU PF bigwigs who lost in the recent Central Committee elections include ZANU PF Chief Whip and Gutu South MP Pupurai Togrepi who was defeated by former Chief Whip and Secretary for Security Lovemore Matuke.
Former Chivi North MP Paul Mangwana who is the party’s national secretary for Legal Affairs lost to Ephraim Gwanongodza in Chivi District.

Retired Army General, Engelbert Rugeje, Loses In ZANU PF CC Elections

Chief Nhema of Zaka, born Rangarirai Bwawanda, has reportedly barred ZANU PF District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairperson Clemence Chiduwa from several wards that fall under his area of jurisdiction.
Chiduwa, who is the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, is not allowed to be in wards 20, 21, 26 and 31 that fall under his constituency and also under Chief Nhema’s area.
This comes after the two allegedly clashed over ZANU PF’s Central Committee nominees in Zaka.
<a href="https://tellzim.com/i-dont-want-to-see-you-in-my-area-chief-bans-minister/">TellZim News</a> reported sources as saying Chiduwa backs Nyasha Gavaza whilst Nhema supports Davis Marapira who recently transferred from Masvingo to Zaka district.
Marapira is the sitting MP for Masvingo North but is said to be eyeing Zaka Central and is also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
The traditional leader has reportedly ordered all party chairpersons in the aforementioned wards not to attend any meeting organized by Chiduwa or else they will face serious consequences.
However, Chief Nhema told the publication that he had not barred Chiduwa from his area adding that it was Chiduwa who was instructing the party chairpersons not to go to him. He said:

If anyone is saying I have banned Chiduwa from my area, he or she is lying. I have never instructed anyone from my area not to attend his programmes, it’s actually he who instructed the chairpersons from visiting me their Chief.

He said Chiduwa was the best person to explain why he was banning chairpersons from visiting him (Chief Nhema). Added the chief:

I don’t fear him and if there is anything I simply tell him man to man, he is my MP and I am a Chief with an area within his constituency so we have to work together for development.
I have not reached a point of banning him in my area as I did to Chakona (former Zaka Central MP Paradzai Chakona) at some point and if need be I can simply tell him that. I have talked to his constituency coordinator about the matter.

Chiduwa told TellZim News that he was not banned by the chief but the two had some issues which they deliberated and resolved. He said:
We had some disagreements over some issues but I think they have been resolved. I cannot say I was banned by Chief Nhema because if he does that, it would affect development.

Chief "Bans" Minister From His Area Of Jurisdiction

Former State Security Minister, Owen “Mudha” Ncube says ZANU PF bigwigs in Midlands Province have buried the hatchet and resolved to work together to ensure that the party wins in the 2023 elections.
Addressing party supporters in Kwekwe recently, Ncube said party members should fully rally behind provincial chairperson Larry Mavhima and his deputy Edison Chiherenge.
He also said his differences with Mavhima and Daniel Mackenzie Ncube are now a thing of the past. Said Ncube:

We have said let us put our differences aside and forge ahead as a united force ahead of the impending polls.
We are rallying behind our provincial chairperson Larry Mavhima and his deputy Edison Chiherenge.
If you heard that we were not seeing eye to eye with Mavhima that’s a thing of the past. 
If you heard we were not seeing eye to eye with Mackenzie that’s now a thing of the past.
We are now a united front as we are forging a united front to deliver victory for President Mnangagwa. Our President has already won the elections. How can he not win when he has us as his foot soldiers?
Youths and women have already paved the way by endorsing the President.
This is not yet time to campaign for any other candidate but the President only. There is no campaign presently for MP or council candidates.

ZANU PF Bigwigs In Midlands Make Peace

The MDC-T breakaway faction led by Thokozani Khupe has ceased to exist as a political formation as the former Prime Minister disbanded it and joined forces with CCC in March.
Khupe proclaimed the formation of a rival MDC-T party in January 2022 following deep divisions with party leader Douglas Mwonzora.
Khupe’s spokesperson, Ntando Ndlovu, told CITE that it was the National Council that made the decision to disband the party. Said Ndlovu:

MDC-T ceased to exist on March 22, 2022, when the former DPM announced that all MDC-T members had joined the Citizens Coalition for Change.
The decision was taken by the then National Council which then mandated Dr Khupe to make the announcement.

Ndlovu said former MDC-T members were also happy to be part of CCC and their focus was “on mobilising for change, not for positions.”
The MDC has split at least five times since its formation in 1999.
The first was in 2005 between the founding party president Morgan Tsvangirai and Welshman Ncube.
The second was in 2014 when Tendai Biti formed MDC Renewal (PDP), and soon after that Job Sikhala created MDC 99.
In 2018, the party split again between Nelson Chamisa and Khupe following the death of Tsvangirai.

The ZANU PF Youth League has dismissed as unfounded claims by former youth leader Jim Kunaka that President Emmerson Mnangagwa agreed to hand over power to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at the end of his first term.
In a media briefing in Gweru on Tuesday, ZANU PF Youth League Secretary for Legal Affairs, Phineas Makombe said former members who call themselves “Original ZANU PF Youths”, among them Kunaka and FEEZ leader Godfrey Tsenengamu should never be taken seriously on ZANU PF matters. Makombe said:

This morbid comedy of error is led by one Tsenengamu and a Jim Kunaka. With regards to the legality of their claims, I have seen it most prudent to refer to the self-same constitution that is the cornerstone of our Revolutionary Party.
First and foremost: there is no party structure called “Original ZANU PF Youths.
… These two agent provocateurs, charlatans and kantangaras characters have not been reinstated into the Party which long expelled them.

Makombe also denied allegations that Mnangagwa had formed parallel party structures to buttress his alleged Lacoste faction. He said:

Furthermore, the same chapter 1 (subsection 2) states that; “any organization, association or society whose members are citizens or residents of Zimbabwe and whose aims and objectives are not inconsistent with those of the party can be members of the party”.
The above allows for the formation and existence of affiliates of the Party. This has been the basis for the formation and continued existence of notable organizations like the War Veterans Association, the War Collaborators Association, Children of War Veterans Association etcetera.
This has lately seen the creation of more groups such as; Young Women for ED, Men BelievED and Councillors for ED to mention but a few.
To that effect, the reason why these affiliates strongly mention ED is that it is where we are as a Party.

No ED-Chiwenga Power Transfer Deal, Says ZANU PF Youth League

ZANU PF has lashed out at former party members, Godfrey Tsenengamu and Jimu Kunaka, who recently claimed there is strife within the ruling party.
Last week, Tsenengamu and Kunaka held media conferences where they said President Emmerson Mnangagwa should step down and allow Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to take over.
ZANU PF Director for Information and Publicity, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, on Sunday, accused the duo of seeking the “unconstitutional ouster” of Mnangagwa, saying they are “playing with fire”. Said Mugwadi:

We have taken note of the threats issued by renegade and headless activists targeted at the President of the Republic.
The unsolicited false remarks by Godfrey Tsenengamu and the Chipangano violent hooligan Jimu Kunaka, suggesting strife between the President of the Second Republic, Cde Mnangagwa, and Vice President (Constantino) Chiwenga have no place in this Republic.
To even seek to invite our esteemed defence forces into these baseless claims, is most unfortunate.
… It is one thing to criticise Cde Mnangagwa as a ZANU PF President and First Secretary and a different thing altogether to seek the unconstitutional removal of him as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
To attempt the latter, expressly or impliedly, will be tantamount to asking for tragic consequences. This tomfoolery must, therefore, just stop forthwith.

Mugwadi also demanded that Tsenengamu and Kunaka, both former ZANU PF youth leaders, should stop using the party’s regalia and trademarks. He said:

ZANU PF Warns Tsenengamu, Kunaka

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned senior party members against presenting their personal opinion as a reflection of the party’s ideology and policy.
Addressing the 362nd Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare on Wednesday, 8 June 2022, Mnangagwa, who is the ZANU PF First Secretary, all members are obliged to toe the party line. He said:

Allow me to reiterate that discipline within the party is non-negotiable. Self-seeking acts and practices that derail the party’s mobilisation strategies and cause confusion and division must be uprooted within the rank and file of the party.
… We are a party united by our shared ideology and common values. All of us are subject to the collective wisdom of the party.
The correct party line must be adhered to once a collective decision has been made.
We are a party of order with clear procedures and a modus operandi.
Personal views and opinions must never be smuggled to assume the status of being a party policy.

Mnangagwa also warned those given positions of responsibility that non-delivery of results will attract consequences.

George Charamba has dismissed reports that there is a faction of ZANU PF that seeks to remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa and replace him with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga before the 2023 elections.
Charamba, who is the Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), was responding to an article written by NewsDay journalist, Miriam Mangwaya titled, “Plot to oust ED thickens”.

Charamba Addresses Plot To Topple Mnangagwa Reports

Disgruntled ZANU PF members have renewed calls for the removal of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as party leader at the elective congress expected in October this year.
While some members of the party have endorsed Mnangagwa as the party’s presidential candidate for elections next year, some party cadres are allegedly pushing for his removal.
An alleged faction linked to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is reportedly calling for Mnangagwa’s removal from the helm of the party.
Chiwenga’s backers blame Mnangagwa for failing to solve the country’s deteriorating economic situation characterised by rising prices of basic grocery items and services and a collapsed local currency.
Members of the alleged Chiwenga faction have reportedly formed counter social media groups, where they openly express their unhappiness with Mnangagwa’s perceived leadership failures.
In leaked WhatsApp audio clips in possession of NewsDay, ZANU PF youths said Mnangagwa should be replaced with Chiwenga. One youth only identified as Jasi said:

We can’t continue with this situation. We are in ZANU PF, but we should be candid.
Out there, we protect our President, but we can’t continue with this situation because our parents are struggling.
It is so pathetic. Mr Mnangagwa should step down or must be removed. We can’t be threatened.

Another group member chipped in, saying ZANU PF may lose elections to CCC led by Nelson Chamisa. He said:

No Comrade Jasi. The reason why we opt for the removal of people is that these men do not want to take advice.
If people overstay in power, they think they own Zimbabwe. If we are talking about important issues, we must be one. If they fail, then they must let Chiwenga take over.
They do not care about us. They have got their agenda that benefits them.
We will end up losing this country to (opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson) Chamisa if we continue on this track.

Mnangagwa blames sanctions and “economic saboteurs” for the country’s economic challenges.
On Wednesday, ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa told journalists in Harare that Mnangagwa remained the ZANU PF presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly lost the support of some of his key allies in ZANU PF including Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo who have stood with him for decades through thick and thin.
Political observers believe Mnangagwa might be isolated at the December Congress as he has sidelined his old allies in favour of new faces.
Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, are allegedly involved in a latent battle for the control of the ruling party ahead of the December congress and subsequently the 2023 elections.
July Moyo and former State Security minister Owen Ncube are reported to be among senior ZANU PF officials who are no longer loyal to Mnangagwa.
Moyo, who is the ZANU PF secretary for transport and welfare, reportedly played a key role ahead of the November 2017 military coup that ousted the then president Robert Mugabe.
He is also believed to have been supporting Ncube, who was fired from Cabinet by Mnangagwa due to “behaviour inconsistent with the ministerial office”.
Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa (Independent) has consistently accused Moyo of working against Mnangagwa.
The NewsHawks reported a source as saying Moyo is not happy with the manner in which Mnangagwa was aligning with other people of late and pushing his “real people” away. Said a NewsHawks source:

Meanwhile, Ncube is reported to be still asking why he was blocked from contesting for the post of provincial chairperson and subsequently fired from his cabinet post.

Mnangagwa Loses Key ZANU PF Allies

The MDC-T national council on Friday resolved to expel suspended deputy party president Thokozani Khupe alongside Nomvula Mguni, Mildred Dube and Ntandoyenkosi Ndhlovu with immediate effect
Khupe’s expulsion from the party comes after she announced a split of the MDC-T during a press conference in Bulawayo last week on Friday.
She also claimed that MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora had left the party after he announced that the opposition party will contest the 26 March by-elections as the MDC Alliance.
In a statement this Saturday, MDC-T Secretary Information and Publicity Witness Dube said Khupe and her colleagues won’t be allowed to use the MDC-T name and symbols. Said, Dube:

The National Council also deliberated on Dr Thokozani Khupe’s alleged “Declaration of a Split” and noted that no such arrangement was catered for by the Party Constitution and at law in general.
The Council asserted the move by Dr Khupe as a testament to her having terminated her own membership with the party.
Accordingly, the National Council unanimously resolved to expel her, together with Nomvula Mguni, Mildred Dube and Ntandoyenkosi Ndhlovu with immediate effect.
Dr Khupe, together with the aforementioned trio, will therefore not be allowed to use the MDC-T name, symbols, and or associated intellectual property henceforth.

MDC-T Expels Khupe, Three Others

The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T has denied claims that it is planning to recall its vice president Thokozani Khupe from Parliament.
This follows reports indicating that the fractured opposition party held a national council meeting on 26 November where it was resolved to recall Khupe and eventually sack her from the party.
Khupe accuses the MDC-T of being tribalistic and has demanded that the party come out clean on attempts to fire her.
Through her lawyers Ncube Attorneys, Khupe wrote a letter to party secretary-general Paurina Mupariwa on Friday in which she alleged the party held a national council meeting on 26 November where the plot to recall her was hatched.
Khupe snubbed a recent meeting of the party’s shadow cabinet and has been avoiding some of the party programmes.
However, MDC-T acting chairman, Giles Mutseyekwa, dismissed Khupe’s claims, saying there was never such a meeting. Said Mutseyekwa:

At the last national council meeting we had, Khupe was in attendance and she was the first to even contribute as she was saying we should delay holding our congress.
She told us that the party needed more time to prepare for our congress but we felt that we have to do it as a matter of urgency.

The factionalism which emerged at the chaotic MDC-T extraordinary congress held on 27 December 2020 has followed the party since, with the rifts seemingly widening.

MDC-T Denies Khupe Ouster Plot

Reports claiming that exiled former ZANU PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere is plotting a political comeback to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa has triggered a commotion within the ruling party.
Mnangagwa’s hounds have reportedly launched a witch-hunt in the ruling party with some officials now being targeted for allegedly backing Tyson’s plot.
Kasukuwere, who was known as Tyson during his heydays in ZANU PF, was singled out by the ruling party in an opposing affidavit in the case where a party member <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sybeth_Musengezi">Sybeth Musengezi</a> wants Mnangagwa’s ascendancy after the 2017 coup declared illegal.
ZANU PF claims Musengezi was planted by Kasukuwere as part of factional wars in the party.
Tafadzwa Mugwadi, the ZANU PF director of information, alleged that some party officials are pretending to be loyal to Mnangagwa yet they are working with Kasukuwere. Said Mugwadi:

I exposed that and I wouldn’t want to speak much, but what should be known is that the hallmark of ZANU PF when going for elections, it sheds off the jetsam and flotsam and anything that is meant to cause commotion and confusion and works on the basis of the willing and devout patriots.
ZANU PF has a way of exposing such in dealing with errant elements.
What we know is they have been up to attacking government officials, government departments, and senior leadership and of course there was suspicion and that suspicion has been confirmed by what they are doing.
This will not derail our plans ahead of 2023 and if you look at the numbers, there are just three or four elements causing confusion.

ZANU PF acting spokesperson Mike Bimha said those supporting Kasukuwere were not genuine party members. He said:

Kasukuwere Links Trigger ZANU PF Witch Hunt

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is reportedly considering challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the ZANU PF elective congress set for next year.
This is despite Chiwenga’s move last week to publicly state that Mnangagwa will be the uncontested ZANU PF candidate in the 2023 elections.
Meanwhile, Chiwenga’s top business executive ally Caleb Dengu, who has said Mnangagwa is illegitimate and must not run in 2023, last week slipped out of the country for the Netherlands, The NewsHawks reported.
Dengu was reportedly under fire from the President’s supporters who were threatening him with a fierce backlash and financial ruin.
The defeated yet still alive ZANU PF faction, the G-40, is reportedly supporting the move by Chiwenga to challenge Mnangagwa.
Chiwenga and G40 strategists are realigning forces within ZANU PF to challenge Mnangagwa head-on next year.
The NewsHawks reported sources within ZANU PF as saying that after Mnangagwa reneged on the deal with Chiwenga prior to the November 2017 military coup to serve only one term and allow his deputy to come in 2023, gloves are now off within the ruling party over unresolved leadership issues. Said the source:

The fallout within the party leadership is serious. We are heading for a battle royale between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga next year.
That is how politics within ZANU PF and state institutions is currently shaping up. The unresolved leadership question can no longer be managed and swept under the carpet; it has got to be settled politically, and that means through congress next year.
There is no question of another military coup; well, perhaps a palace coup might happen, but not a putsch.
When Mnangagwa took over, there was a clear understanding that he will not seek re-election in 2023.
However, Chiwenga and others were shocked to see him telling the world in an interview in September 2018 during the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York that he would seek re-election in 2023. That was never agreed.

During the December 2018 ZANU PF conference at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mzingwane_High_School">Mzingwane High School</a> in Esigodini, Mnangagwa and his allies moved a gear up and launched a campaign for him to serve two terms, a development that reportedly did not please Chiwenga. The Mnangagwa group is mainly Midlands and Masvingo province-based, while the Chiwenga one has threads cutting across different regions, although its main base has roots in the three Mashonaland provinces — Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West and Harare.

Chiwenga To Challenge Mnangagwa In 2022 - REPORT

A Bulawayo-based businessman reportedly assaulted the ZANU PF chairperson for Bulawayo Province and pulled a gun on him after he was accused of dividing the party in the city.
The dramatic incident happened recently at Aisleby Farm in Umguza, Matabeleland North province.
B-Metro quoted a well-placed source who witnessed the incident, as saying that Obert Musindo, the ZANU PF chairperson for Bulawayo Province, had driven to the farm to meet Raymond Mutomba, who is the party’s secretary for administration, Bulawayo Province. Said the source:

Unfortunately when he arrived at the farm, Mutomba was not there and he was told to wait for him.
</blockquote>
While he was waiting, Davis Muhambi, a businessman, arrived and confronted him. Added the source:

He charged at him while accusing him of dividing the party. An argument broke out between the two and Davis assaulted Musindo several times on the face with open hands.
In a fit of rage, Davis took out a firearm from his trousers’ pocket to shoot Musindo. Luckily, one of the witnesses grabbed it and seized it from his tight grip.
Davis was not deterred by that as he rushed to his car and fetched another pistol to shoot Musindo.
People who had gathered surrounded Davis and blocked him from moving to Musindo.
While people had encircled the fuming Davis, Musindo slipped out from under his car [where he had hidden], got into his car and drove off at high speed.

Musindo went to report the matter at Sauerstown Police Station, leading to the arrest of Davis.
Contacted for a comment, Musindo initially tried to dissuade the publication from reporting the story as it “will tarnish our image” but later said he had withdrawn the case.

An MDC Alliance faction backing Tendai Biti, one of party president Nelson Chamisa’s deputies, is vehemently opposed to the latter’s recent decision to forego primary elections ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Reports claim Chamisa is in favour of communities choosing their parliamentary candidates for the 2023 elections.
But Biti and other members of the Maruva cabal, are reportedly resisting the machinations by Chamisa to impose his preferred candidates as a way of consolidating his powers within the party.
Bulawayo24 reported a source as saying Biti’s allies have already started campaigning for the primary elections. Said the source:

Already Biti has selected his close allies to go on the ground and campaign ahead of 2023. Last night (last Sunday), a Biti aligned candidate, Isheanesu Moyo, distributed fliers in Mbare and is targeting to dethrone Starman Chamisa as the Mbare legislator.

Moyo is said to be a University of Zimbabwe lecturer and former Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) spokesperson and Biti’s close friend.
Biti is also reported to have been crisscrossing the country laying the groundwork for his 2023 preferred parliamentary candidates. The source added:

Biti is not stopping. He is busy building his empire within the MDC Alliance and has been going around the country laying the groundwork for his preferred 2023 parliamentary candidates.
As it stands, Biti’s faction has an upper hand, that’s why Chamisa suggested foregoing primary elections because he got the intelligence that most party structures are now supporting Biti.

The so-called Maruva cabal which backs Biti is allegedly plotting to dethrone Chamisa as the leader of the opposition outfit.
Biti and his allies are of the view that Chamisa is weak and should not be at the helm of the party and they are plotting to remove him as the party leader before the 2023 plebiscite.
The former Finance Minister is believed to have captured many party structures, particularly in Bulawayo, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central and East and he is getting separate reports from the provincial chairpersons of these provinces.

Biti's Maruva Cabal Plot Chamisa Ouster | REPORT

Fierce fighting for positions has erupted in ZANU PF’s Mashonaland West province ahead of the ruling party’s annual conference set for October in Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province.
The ZANU PF Mashonaland West leadership has admitted to the divisive jostling for provincial posts and has directed party members to desist from campaigning for positions until party headquarters give the green light.
In a notice to party members which was to NewZimbabwe.com at the weekend, provincial deputy commissar, Godknows Nigel Murambiwa, said:
<blockquote>It has come to our attention that some members have started campaigning for provincial positions, that is, main [wing], women, and youth chairmanship. The party has no vacancies to be filled.
It is, however, against this background that we issue a strong warning to those who are seeking to dislodge or to unseat sitting officers of the party as witnessed by personalised jingles and soft copies of posters campaigning for the positions.
… Those who shall be found posting any material related to campaigning have themselves to blame if the long arm of the law of the party falls before them.
The Commissariat Department is, therefore, urging everyone to wait until such directive is issued from headquarters.</blockquote>
One of the positions up for grabs is that of provincial chair which fell vacant following Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi’s elevation to the Politburo in May.
NewZimbabwe.com reported sources as saying the potential candidates to replace Ziyambi include the frontrunner, Mashonaland West provincial Minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, and provincial youth chairperson Vengai Musengi.
Acting chairperson Abia Mujere is also reportedly vying for the highly influential position.

Jostling For Positions Erupts In ZANU PF's Mash West Province

The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly has dismissed reports of divisions within its ranks saying the allegations are being propagated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.
Recent media reports had suggested that the main opposition movement is being riven by factional fights amid allegations that some members of the Youth Assembly were pushing for chairperson, Obey Sithole’s ouster.
However, in a statement, MDC Alliance national youth spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma blamed the ruling party for spreading falsehoods. Said Chuma:
<blockquote>We wish to set the record straight and confirm that the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly is united in the goal to win Zimbabwe for change. The Assembly is focused on championing the cause of the Zimbabwean people.
We accordingly note with surprise false and malicious rumours propagated by the cornered regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa that suggest that there are divisions within the People’s Youth Assembly.
Unfortunately, some media houses have been deceived by this circle of lies and have amplified them.
To begin with, the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly is a structure of the MDC Alliance. Our existence and conduct are anchored on the party’s Constitution and to that effect, we do not subscribe to violence or tolerate it in any shape or form.</blockquote>
Chuma asserted that the party’s youths remain unwavering in the fight for peaceful democratic change in the country. He said:
<blockquote>There has been a deliberate plot to taint us as a divided unit with some unfounded allegations that the Assembly is somehow at war with fellow Management members.
This is not true and it is the work of enemies of change agenda who have always been at war with progressive young people.
… In this regard, we want to assure the nation that the Youth Assembly is united, getting stronger and firmly committed to the completion of the democratic agenda.

MDC-A Youths Dismiss Rumours Of Infighting

Angry ZANU PF supporters in Marondera on Tuesday night stormed the party’s provincial offices to express their dissatisfaction with the imposition candidates ahead of primary elections.
The disgruntled supporters were protesting against the alleged disqualification of Lawrence Katsiru, who is set to contest in the primary elections against long-time rival Cleopas Kundiona.
One of the ZANU PF factions is reportedly pushing for Kundiona to go uncontested, but the move has since been met with resistance.
A ZANU PF insider revealed that party supporters were angry over reports that Katsiru’s CV had been tampered with by the vetting team in order to disqualify him. The official said:
<blockquote>Most of the people who are here are against the imposition of candidates. It is rumoured that Katsiru’s CV was tampered with by the vetting team. We are against the imposition of candidates in this province.</blockquote>
The Marondera Central seat fell vacant following the expulsion from Parliament of MDC Alliance’s Caston Matewu after he was recalled by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T.
In 2018, Kundiona defeated Katsiru in the primary elections but lost to Matewu in the general elections in the same year.

ZANU PF Factions Clash Over Vacant Marondera Central Seat

Former MDC-T (2014 structures) spokesperson Obert Gutu has condemned his former comrades over the ongoing factional fights, saying they are behaving like a group of foolish flies that are following a corpse into the grave.
Gutu was speaking to The Herald on the current tussle for the control of the icon Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House by the Supreme Court-reconstructed MDC-T on one hand and the MDC Alliance (MDC-A) on the other. Said Gutu:
<blockquote>This is a race to the bottom. All the various MDC factions that are currently involved in this blood-letting and self-cannibalisation are losers because there are no winners in a race to the bottom. In fact, there’s absolutely no method to this madness.
The MDC as a viable and strong opposition political party is now history.
It’s dead and buried. Trust me. Maybe from the ashes of the MDC will emerge various political parties, but the chances of reconciliation of all these various antagonistic factions are virtually zero.</blockquote>
Since its formation in 1999, the MDC has had splits more than three times, notably in 2005, when Welshman Ncube led a faction (MDC-N) away from the late Morgan Tsvangirai outfit, then in 2014 when Tendai Biti left to form his own People Democratic Party (PDP).
Following the death of Tsvangirai in 2018, Chamisa staged a ‘coup’ and outmanoeuvred Thokozani Khupe, resulting in another acrimonious split which birthed the current imbroglio.

MDC Factions Are On A Race To The Bottom - Obert Gutu

ZANU PF factions have reportedly taken their fight to the impending District Coordinating Committee (DCC) elections as they try to consolidate their political power in various provinces ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.
The ruling party is currently receiving curriculum vitae (CVs) from prospective candidates who will then be vetted before they can contest the polls whose dates are yet to be set.
Reports suggest that some aspiring candidates who ordinarily would qualify, have been barred submitting their CVs on spurious grounds.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Deputy Constantino Chiwenga are reportedly tussling to control the party which has been ravaged by factionalism for many years.
ZANU PF officials who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com on condition of anonymity said the DCCs were a grassroots power base, and whoever controlled most of the districts will ultimately control provinces, which can, at anytime, call for a special congress to elect a party president. A senior party official is quoted as saying:
<blockquote>The hype surrounding these DCC polls is evidence Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are both plotting to consolidate their power among party structures. It’s all about the two trying to checkmate each other.</blockquote>
A 14-member politburo team will be despatched this week to various provinces to collect CVs for onward transmission to the commissariat department at the party’s headquarters.
The team is comprised predominantly of Mnangagwa loyalists who include Local Government minister July Moyo, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, ZANU PF administration secretary Obert Mpofu and Christopher Mutsvangwa.

Mnangagwa, Chiwenga Loyalists Battle To Control ZANU PF DCCs

Exiled former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi says the ZANU PF intra-party dispute between the G40 faction and Team Lacoste is not over yet.
Mzembi accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of using the military in 2017 to decide the outcome of the factional battles within the ruling party hence the dispute remains unresolved.
Mzembi, who is in self-imposed exile in South Africa, was responding to threats by Mnangagwa to have him extradited from the neighbouring country for prosecution. Said Mzembi:
<blockquote>It is not a secret that there were two factions contesting for power in Zanu PF. Now identifying G40 leadership for prosecution on distant things that do not even border on criminality is a good example of the weaponisation of prosecutions.
He used the Zimbabwe Defence Forces to arbitrate in an intra-party dispute between two factions, G40 and Lacoste, and that dispute, because it was summarily resolved by force, stands to this day.
The battle for the soul and minds of Zanu PF continues, with him as hanging on the military thread, imposing himself, while the legitimate party is in exile.</blockquote>
Mzembi said, through his statements, Mnangagwa made himself the judge, jury and prosecutor of his opponents.
He accused Mugabe’s protege of weaponising criminal prosecution against political opponents.

Team Lacoste, G40 'War' Not Over Yet - Mzembi

ZANU PF national political commissar Victor Matemadanda has admitted that the party’s cohesion is being threatened by resurgent factionalism and tribalism.
Speaking in Harare on Tuesday, Matemadanda, who is also the Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, warned ZANU PF party structures against embracing regionalism. He said:
<blockquote>We respected (the late vice president Joshua) Nkomo as our leader. People from Plumtree up to Mutoko sang songs praising Nkomo.
Our relationship should not be premised on tribalism and regionalism. Some are saying let us wait and see whether we are going to support a certain leader or not.
That’s what you are doing here in Harare … this habit has grown in Harare. It is now like a huge tree and you are saying we are tribal specialists.</blockquote>
Matemadanda also chided the party’s leaders for using social media platforms such as WhatsApp, to expose the problems bedevilling the former liberation movement.
<blockquote>You are in a WhatsApp group with many people and you think what you are discussing is a secret?
… We don’t want leaders who go on Twitter and Facebook exposing party problems.</blockquote>
This comes after the party recently expelled two politburo members, Tendai Savanhu and Cleveria Chizema for fanning factionalism and division within the party.
