The statement by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) on the acquisition of Standard Chartered Bank by FBC Holdings:

The Bank wishes to advise the banking public that the Registrar of Banking Institutions approved FBC Holdings Limited’s acquisition of 100% shareholding (significant interest) in Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe Limited which also results in FBC Holdings Limited taking control of Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe Limited as defined in terms of the Banking Act [Chapter 24:20] 
The Bank also advises the public that approval has been granted by the Registrar of Banking Institutions for FBC Holdings Limited to be registered as a controlling company for Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe Limited.

FBC Holdings Acquires Standard Chartered Bank

FBC Bank has announced that it will start charging a $20 fee on all prepaid cards issued by the bank a year. Personal accounts will be expected to pay $15 per year.
The bank announced the development to its customers via an SMS which read:
<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">Please note that FBC Prepaid cards will now have the following annual fees applicable to them, $20 for Business and $15 for Ordinary cards effective February 2020.</blockquote>
The Bank also said that its decisions are usually informed by the prevailing business conditions. Posting on Twitter this Tuesday, the bank said:
<blockquote>Kindly note that the bank regularly reviews business conditions, informed by the prevailing economic conditions. This allows us to meet the requirements of diverse customer segments, maintain excellent service standards and offer enhanced convenience to our valued clients</blockquote>
Zim Price Check spoke to the Bank’s representative who said that this charge is in US dollars and affects their MasterCard.
The card enables Zimbabweans to make online payments as well as to be able to make purchases and withdrawals when travelling. Several families also utilise the card to send money to their children who are studying abroad.

FBC Bank Cards Now Have US$20 And Or US$15 Annual Fees

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has restricted the withdrawal of United States Dollars from Foreign Currency Accounts (FCAs) and Prepaid Mastercard Accounts.
This was revealed by an FBC Bank internal circular which stated that the central bank directed that no cash withdrawals will be made from FCAs unless there are specific reasons and applications approved by the RBZ. Part of the circular reads:
<blockquote>There shall be no cash withdrawals from these particular accounts funded under this arrangement. However, should there be a genuine need for cash to be withdrawn from the accounts, specific applications must be made to the Reserve Bank and supported by letters written by the accountholders detailing the reasons and circumstances surrounding such requests. The absence of cash withdrawal facilities is also extended to offshore travelers who must load their MasterCard prior to departure. </blockquote>
The development comes when the country is having a huge foreign currency deficit particularly after the closure of the tobacco sales season.
Foreign currency is on high demand considering that the government businesses and individuals import virtually everything as the local industry is grounded.

RBZ Restricts USD Withdrawals From FCAs and Prepaid MasterCard Accounts

Harare City Council has partnered with National Building Society and FBC Group (Pvt) Ltd to develop residential stands for low-income earners . NBS will develop 333 stands while FBC will develop 858 stands.
Council will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement for Public Private Partnership with National Building Society for purposes of infrastructural development of 333 stands in St Martin’s, Hatfield. FBC wants to develop 858 stands ranging from 200 to 1 000 square metres in Kuwadzana.

Harare City Council partners with NBS & FBC to develop stands

Financial services company Getbucks is now offering mortgage loans to low-income earners.  The mortgage loans will be paid back in 10 years with zero percent deposit.  However, the mortgages will have  18-percent  interest per annum.
Getbucks’ chief finance officer Paul Soko, speaking to The Source said:
<blockquote>So far we just started and everyone is so excited by the product because unlike a traditional mortgage, we can give a mortgage of $2,000 to $5,000 which you cannot get from any other commercial bank. Its unique in that it appeals to low income workers.</blockquote>
Getbucks’ mortgage is set to rival the FBC Building Society and ZB Holdings.  The two have interest rates of 15 percent and 18 percent respectively.
