The Federation of International Football (FIFA) has appointed a four-member normalisation committee to take over the day-to-day running of ZIFA until June 2024.
The appointment of the normalisation committee came after FIFA announced the lifting of the suspension on the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Monday 10 July 2022.
Normalisation committees play a significant role in ensuring compliance with FIFA regulatory requirements.
The four-member normalisation committee was unveiled by FIFA Head of development programs in Africa Solomon Mudege on Tuesday, 11 July.
The committee comprises chairperson Lincon Mutasa, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Rosemary Mugadza and Nyasha Sanyamandu.
Mutasa is a former Dynamos chairman, Mugadza is a former Mighty Warriors coach, Ndebele is a former Highlanders defender, while Sanyamandwe is a member of the British Sports Lawyers Association and legal practitioner.
Below are the duties of the normalisation committee:

<li>To run the daily affairs of ZIFA</li>
<li>To restructure the ZIFA administration</li>
<li>To establish, with the help of FIFA, a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Sport/the SRC and ZIFA, which will define the responsibilities and objectives of each 
party, including (but not exclusively) on the topic of sexual harassment</li>
<li>To review the ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code to ensure their compliance with the FIFA Statutes and requirements, and to ensure their adoption by the ZIFA Congress</li>
<li>To act as an electoral committee in order to organise and conduct elections of a new ZIFA Board based on the newly aligned ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code</li>
<li>To ensure a proper financial handover to the new ZIFA Board</li>
</ul>

FIFA Unveils Four-member ZIFA Normalisation Committee

Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Minister Kirsty Coventry has defended the decision by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to dissolve the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board in 2021 despite the move inviting sanctions from the Federation of International Football (FIFA).
The SRC suspended the elected Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board in November 2021, for alleged abuse of public fans and the sexual harassment of female referees among other allegations.
Since ZIFA is an affiliate of FIFA, the world football governing body suspended ZIFA citing government interference in the administration of the sport in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Harare on Tuesday, 11 July, Coventry said the suspension of the ZIFA board was necessary to clean Zimbabwean football. She said:

We had to make hard decisions to make sure we were making the correct decisions for all stakeholders.
The way in which our football was running was heavily dependent on what the administrators wanted and only for their benefit and we had to make that hard decision (to intervene) and say enough is enough.
I remember walking into [President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s] office and I sat down and shared all that was happening (at ZIFA).
I also made it clear to him of the consequences that we faced as a country (for intervening).
I didn’t know what his reaction would be because we know that soccer has a very special part to play across African politics around the continent.
I want to personally thank him for not hesitating as he said “clean it up, it’s time”.
That was extremely brave and it gave me the support that I also gave to the SRC (Sport and Recreation Commission) knowing that it was unwavering and knowing it was time to turn a corner and get back to being one of the best soccer nations in the world.

FIFA lifted the suspension on Zimbabwe on Monday, 10 July following several meetings with the SRC which resulted in the establishment of a four-member “normalisation committee” that has been tasked with running the affairs of ZIFA until June 2024 when a new board is to be elected into office.

Coventry Defends SRC Decision To Suspend ZIFA Board

A delegation from FIFA is set to arrive in Zimbabwe tomorrow (Monday), to finalise the appointment of a normalisation committee to run the affairs of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
A normalisation committee usually consists of members who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), subject to an eligibility check carried out by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with the Fifa governance regulations.
The imminent visit by the FIFA delegation is the second in two months and comes a few days before the Bureau of the FIFA Council is scheduled to meet later this week.
The FIFA Council is the main decision-making body of the organisation in the intervals of the FIFA Congress.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/sport/article/200013486/big-week-for-zim-football-as-fifa-visits-again">The Standard</a> reported sources as saying the FIFA Council scheduled for later this week will review Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football competitions. Said a source:

FIFA will be in the country on Monday to finalise the normalisation committee ahead of the FIFA council meeting later in the week to review Zimbabwe’s suspension.
This follows consultations earlier in April with the SRC which included CAF.

In April, FIFA sent a delegation to Zimbabwe on a fact-finding mission.
The delegation consisted of Zimbabwean national Solomon Mudege, who is FIFA’s head of development programmes Africa, regional development officer David Fani and senior governance service manager Sarah Solémalé.
CAF was also represented during the three-day fact-finding mission.
The delegation held meetings with representatives from the Premier Soccer League, the Footballers’ Union of Zimbabwe and other pertinent parties in a bid to gather facts on the ground.
Zimbabwe national teams and clubs have not participated in international competitions for the last 16 months following the country’s suspension by FIFA.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA board led by Felton Kamambo for several alleged violations which include sexual harassment of female referees and failure to account for public funds.

Another FIFA Delegation Set To Visit Zimbabwe

The Gerald Mlotshwa-led Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction over recent engagements with officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA.
The officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA were in the country this week on a fact-finding mission.
In a statement released on Thursday night, SRC said it held “productive meetings” with the officials and they broadly agreed on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation. Reads the statement:

Throughout the week, FIFA and CAF engaged with various stakeholders and officials involved in Zimbabwean football to gather their perspectives.
A common sentiment among these stakeholders was the need for strong, lawful governance structures to support Zimbabwe’s return to international football, as well as a commitment to implementing necessary reforms for the sport’s future development and success in the country.
The SRC has also been involved in productive discussions with FIFA and CAF, including COSAFA, with a mutual goal of resolving the issues surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The conversations have been marked by good faith from all parties and a genuine interest in advancing solutions.
The outcomes of these discussions have been promising, with the SRC, CAF, and FIFA generally agreeing on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation.
… The commission deeply appreciates the firm support and positions taken by all stakeholders involved in this week’s consultations.
These stakeholders have been clear about the changes needed in Zimbabwean football and have collectively called for a swift resolution to ZIFA’s challenges.

The SRC said will provide further updates to the public on the matter in the first week of May 2023.
The SRC did not reveal the issues they agreed on with representatives from both FIFA and CAF.

SRC Optimistic After Meeting FIFA, CAF Delegation

A six-member FIFA delegation is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Monday morning in a move that may culminate in the readmission of Zimbabwe to the international football community.
The delegation, which includes officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will meet the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).
The FIFA and CAF officials will spend three days in the country.
The <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/fifa-descend-on-zim">Sunday Mail</a> reported that FIFA head of development programmes in Africa, Solomon Mudege; the senior member associations governance manager, Sarah Solemale and David Fani, who heads the FIFA regional office for Southern Africa, are among the officials expected in Zimbabwe.
CAF director of member associations Sarah Mukuna and COSAFA president Artur de Almeida e Silva are part of the delegation.
The report says there is a possibility of FIFA appointing a Normalisation Committee to oversee the reform process, which would then culminate in elections to choose a new leadership. The Sunday Mail reported a source as saying:

As you know by now, FIFA and SRC have been discussing ZIFA matters continuously over the last year, with most of those meetings being virtual.
Only two weeks ago, another virtual meeting between the parties was held and it seems that was the breakthrough indaba in that the idea of a Normalisation Committee seemed to have gained traction.
The FIFA delegation wants to take time to hear from the SRC board on the situation at ZIFA and get an on-the-ground appreciation of what is obtaining in Zimbabwe football.
It appears that all the key parties to the discussions agreed that at this point the best solution for ZIFA is a Normalisation Committee that will oversee fresh elections within ZIFA, as well as ensure that the new executive implements the roadmap.

FIFA suspended Zimbabwe on 25 February 2022 for alleged third-party interference after the SRC had suspended the ZIFA board led by Felton Kamambo on 16 November 2021.
The other ZIFA executives suspended are Philemon Machana, Bryton Malandule and Joseph Mamutse.

FIFA Delegation Expected In Zimbabwe On Monday

Football fans have pleaded with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to intervene in the dispute between the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and the suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board to ensure that the sanctions imposed on the country by FIFA are lifted.
Zimbabwe national football teams and clubs are banned from participating in international football tournaments after the country was suspended by FIFA in early 2022.
The suspension came after the SRCled by Gerald Mlotshwa dismissed ZIFA board members including its president, Felton Kamambo over a litany of allegations including corruption and the sexual harassment of female referees.
In a recent statement, Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters’ Association (ZNSSA) secretary-general Joseph Mutawu said Mnangagwa should intervene to end the impasse between SRC and ZIFA. He said:

We urge and plead with our listening President ED Mnangagwa to chip in, reign in Mlotshwa and Kamambo and knock sense in their heads.
</blockquote>
Football stars such as Marshall Munetsi, coaches, administrators, and parliamentarians have all been calling for Mlotshwa to reinstate Kamambo so that the country can return to international football.
Mlotshwa and the SRC have made it clear that getting the FIFA suspension lifted is not a priority. Said ZNSSA:

All these calls from the football-loving community and the oversight from Parliament fell on deaf ears of Gerald Mlotshwa-led SRC.
Mlotshwa has responded by saying that Zimbabwe was not in a hurry to get the FIFA suspension lifted. Like seriously Mlotshwa?
This was a rude and unthoughtful statement. How dare you Mlotshwa? As supporters, we have now realised that the road which was taken by SRC is leading us to nowhere.
The only expected destination in this case is leading Zimbabwe football into oblivion, destruction, extinction and misery.
That cannot happen under our watch as supporters and we demand that SRC end this madness.

Mlotshwa recently said it was now impossible to reinstate Kamambo saying doing so will be in violation of the ZIFA constitution and SRC Act. He said:

It is a fact that Felton Kamambo is no longer the ZIFA president, having been recalled by his own congress.
It follows, logically, that the SRC is not able to reinstate him to that position. 
Any such attempt would, ironically, be blatantly unlawful in terms of ZIFA’s current constitution, as well as the SRC Act.

Football Fans Urge Mnangagwa To "Knock Some Sense" Into Gerald Mlotshwa

Warriors midfielder <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marshal_Munetsi">Marshall Munetsi </a>has once again urged the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and Zimbabwe Football Association(ZIFA) to find common ground for the country to play international football.  
Zimbabwe was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/full-text-fifa-suspends-zimbabwe-from-international-competitions/">suspended from the international community by FIFA, </a>after the SRC has suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive.
Since then, the impasse between the two bodies has resulted in all Zimbabwean national teams missing out on international competitions, a setback bemoaned by Munetsi. He said:

As we approach the next set of qualifiers, as football players we are reminded that our national teams remains banned from participating in any international assignments, this reminder cascades down to the the fans as well, they can’t enjoy the national teams they love to watch playing.
As things stand we continue to lose a generation of talented footballers because they do not have opportunities to showcase their talent during national team assignments, this situation continues to harm not only the future of football in the country but it is depriving the general community of the downstream benefits that football can bring to the social economy of the nation.
I continue to implore to the SRC and ZIFA urging all the parties involved to find common ground and come to an amicable solution that will allow our football to survive as we move into the future.
Our football needs us to find each other and for us to move in one direction and speak with one voice. The partitipation of our country at major tournaments stands to benefit us more.

"Find Common Ground": Munetsi Urges SRC, ZIFA Again

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Restructuring Committee has handed over its final report to the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).
The committee was established in December 2021 as part of the strategic roadmap toward addressing the challenges that have affected football management and administration in Zimbabwe.
The committee’s chairman Blessing Rugara on Wednesday told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zifa-restructuring-committee-hands-over-report/">The Herald</a> that they had submitted their report to the Sports and Recreation Commission by 23 December 2022.
The committee had been given until 31 December 2022 to complete its task. Said Rugara:
<blockquote>
We have completed the task that was mandated for us to do. I am sure there is a press release that is going to be made by the Sports Commission maybe tomorrow (today) or in the next few coming days.
The report is in three parts. The first part deals with presentations from the various stakeholders, then findings and recommendations.
There are recommendations to the ZIFA constitution which is the primary impediment to Zimbabwean football, in our view.
The committee exercised due diligence but there are obviously always challenges when you are trying to make changes to institutions such as ZIFA.
There is a lot in the report as you shall discover once it is made public. Of course, I would be pleased to see the recommendations being implemented for the betterment of the game.
We would also want to see the Government taking responsibility for football more directly so that the athletes get the level of support they need without facing impediments such as a lack of funds when they go out there.
That’s one of the major recommendations we made.

The SRC suspended the ZIFA in November 2021 on allegations of abuse of funds and the sexual harassment of female referees among other charges.
In February 2022, FIFA suspended ZIFA’s membership on grounds of “third-party interference”.
As a result, all the national teams were barred from participating in international competitions until the ZIFA board is reinstated.

ZIFA Restructuring Committee Hands Over Report To SRC

South African-based Warriors players Onismor Bhasera and George Chigova have implored the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to consider the futures of young Zimbabwean footballers and ensure that the FIFA ban on the country is lifted.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football over a year ago after the SRC, a government body, suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board on allegations of corruption, mismanagement of funds, and sexual harassment.
FIFA says SRC should reinstate the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board for Zimbabwe to participate in international football tournaments again.
Speaking in an interview with FARPost, Bhasera, who plays for SuperSport United, said football authorities seem not to care about the future of Zimbabwean footballers. Said Bhasera:
<blockquote>
I’ve been following the events back home. It’s unfortunate that no one is considering the future of these footballers.
Some of us already made the break, but there are many still waiting for that breakthrough. Those ones have mainly been disadvantaged by the suspension.
We have been deprived at the continental and regional levels. It’s unfortunate that even player movements have slowed down since these events.
It’s the players that have suffered the most while the high offices are in an argument.
We can only wait for common ground to be reached for the sake of progress.
For the sake of our future, there must be an amicable resolution. We can’t remain stagnant in one position like this. Like other nations, we must progress.

Goalkeeper George Chigova, who also plays for SuperSport United, contends that Zimbabwe’s suspension by FIFA means that local footballers have no international platform on which to showcase their talents. Said Chigova:

I got an opportunity to play in South Africa after impressing during the 2013 Chan finals.
So, with the country suspended, it means no one is in a position to showcase themselves.
Many of us here in South Africa came via these tournaments. It’s the only possible breakthrough that footballers back home are waiting for.
Unfortunately, under these circumstances. It’s very hard to get such opportunities.
The future of Zimbabwean football is seriously under threat.

Warriors Duo Urge SRC And ZIFA To Let "Let Bygones Be Bygones"

Former ZIFA president Felton Kamambo and other suspended executive members have advised interim ZIFA president, Gift Banda, against distributing football equipment purchased using FIFA funds.
Kamambo and fellow board members Philemon Machana and Bryton Malandule recently wrote a letter to Banda warning him that distributing the equipment will strain future relations between ZIFA and FIFA.
The letter, which was written by the lawyers representing the suspended board members, Rubaya and Chatambudza, reads:

It has come to our clients’ attention that at a meeting dubbed “The ZIFA EGM” you arranged and attended together with your colleagues and subsequently resolved to distribute football equipment purchased using FIFA funds strictly for FIFA-sanctioned programs despite previous communications from FIFA and CAF that you are to desist from utilising their financial resources.
Having previously helped yourselves to an amount equivalent to US$108 000 before you were directed through a letter by CAF and FIFA, we are at a loss as to why you and your grouping would proceed to agree to share the equipment from a donor (FIFA) who has not authorised you to do so and who has previously stated that they do not recognise you as the legitimate leaders of ZIFA and directed times without number that you should not utilise their resources.

The Kamambo-led ZIFA executive was suspended by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in November last year over allegations including misappropriations of public funds.
Banda and his team were appointed in the interim but FIFA rejected the move and demanded the reinstatement of the suspended board members.

Kamambo Warns Interim ZIFA President Gift Banda

Football’s world governing body FIFA has warned the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) that their team’s participation at World Cup 2022 could be under threat if there is found to be government interference within the organisation.
Having qualified for their sixth World Cup, the North African country is in Group D along with reigning world champions France, Australia and Denmark, whom they face in their November 22 opener, Al Jazeera reported.
The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) sent a letter to TFF earlier this week outlining concerns after Tunisia’s Youth and Sports Minister Kamel Deguiche had threatened to dissolve some federal offices, among other recent comments that have irked the global governing body.
As per FIFA rules, federations of all member nations must be free of any third-party or government involvement.
Kenya and Zimbabwe are currently banned because of this breach. India was briefly suspended for the same reason in August this year.
In the case of Zimbabwe, the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)</a> suspended <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">ZIFA</a> board president, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> over alleged misuse of funds. FIFA said <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zifa-suspension-football-stakeholders-speak-as-zimbabwe-faces-fifa-ban/">the move</a> constituted interference by the government.
The letter from Kenny Jean-Marie, FIFA’s director of member associations, to the general secretary of the TFF Wajdi Aouadi reminded the association of its obligation to act independently and avoid undue influence by third parties. Read the letter confirmed to the Reuters news agency:

Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the imposition of penalties under the FIFA laws, including suspension of the relevant association..

Tunisia Faces Possible Ouster From Qatar 2022 World Cup

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi says members of the country’s government-appointed Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) know nothing about football and got their posts through political connections.
The SRC suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board in November 2021 on allegations of sexual harassment of female referees by technical staff and fraud.
FIFA responded to the move by SRC to suspend the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board suspending Zimbabwe from all international football competitions.
Munetsi, who plays for French club Stade de Reims, told <a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/africa/63215817">BBC Sport Africa</a> that the FIFA suspension has negatively affected the growth of Zimbabwean footballers. He said:

The thing is that they never communicate with the players.
These are people who are just in positions because they maybe know someone in government. They don’t know anything about football.
For us, it hurts us a lot because this is our life. This is football and it’s something that can change a nation, that can change a lot of fortunes for the country.
They have to ask us about certain things because, if you hear the accusations, it’s something that doesn’t have anything to do with football – it’s all politics.
FIFA has a say on it, but they also have to communicate with us.

Meanwhile, the SRC refuted Munetsi’s claims, saying its officials are not in power because of government connections but because they have gone through “a robust selection process”.
Munetsi said he supports the SRC’s quest to clean up the governance of the game in Zimbabwe but also wants the Commission to engage players. He said:

This is one thing I can say to the people that are in charge: they have to communicate with the players that are involved because we have so many big players playing in Europe.
It will be a good opportunity for them to sit down and talk with us so that we can all find a way forward.

But the SRC shot down Munetsi’s request saying it cannot talk to players directly as this is against the law. The SRC said:

As guided by the SRC act, the SRC does not engage players directly as this is under the purview of the National Sporting Associations, who relay any key positions and updates from the SRC to their athletes.

SRC Officials Know Nothing About Football, Says Munetsi

France-based Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi has implored the Zimbabwean government “to do the right thing” so that FIFA’s suspension of the country from international football is lifted.
FIFA banned Zimbabwe from global football in February because of governmental interference in the running of the game, which is contrary to FIFA statutes.
The suspension came after the government-appointed Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board in November 2021.
SRC suspended the ZIFA executives because of alleged sexual harassment of female referees by technical staff and allegations of fraud.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/africa/63215817">BBC Africa</a>, Munetsi said the FIFA ban has stunted the growth of football in the country and that of its players. He said:

This ban has affected young players who have the ambition to be like me by coming to Europe.
It’s playing for the national team which gave me the opportunity to play against big countries and big players. It’s something that is sad and frustrating for us as a country, and for players.
It’s a very complicated topic and I just hope the people involved can solve this because FIFA puts these rules [in place] to protect football.
If our government doesn’t respect this, then we don’t deserve to play. I just hope the government can do the right thing and make sure we are able to play in the coming games.

Meanwhile, the SRC says the suspension is unlikely to be lifted before April 2023.
Zimbabwe was excluded from qualifiers for the 2023 Nations Cup because of the ban.

Munetsi Implores Govt "To Do The Right Thing" For FIFA Ban To Be Lifted

Members of Parliament have given Sports Minister, Kirtsy Coventry an ultimatum to ensure that the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has reinstated the suspended ZIFA board led by Felton Kamambo.
SRC suspended the board over allegations of ed administration and sexual assault prompting FIFA to suspend the southern African country over “government interference” with the sport.
In a document titled “The State of football administration in Zimbabwe,” which was presented to Parliament, the Portfolio Committee on Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation said:

The committee expressed its concern on (the) overwhelming public outcry following the ban imposed on Zimbabwe by Fifa.
It is, indeed, in the interest of the public at large and the soccer governing board in particular, to get the country back on the international scene in the world of football. As observed by Fifa, government interference in football matters has far-reaching implications that can undermine the country’s ability to enjoy the potential benefits that can accrue from participating at international fora.
As such, there is need to observe and respect both the national and international statues, rules and regulations governing football administration.
Therefore, the committee implores the SRC to reverse its decision and implement recommendations by Fifa so as to allow the country to participate in international football competitions.
The committee made the following observations: 6.1 by October 31, 2022 the Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation ministry should ensure that SRC board has repealed its decision of;
(a) November 26, 2020 which suspended the Zifa general secretary;
(b) November 16, 2021 which suspended the Zifa board and;
(c) December 17, 2021 which established the Zifa restructuring committee; in order to pave way for the lifting of the ban imposed by Fifa on Zimbabwe from participating in international football competitions.

The parliamentary committee is chaired by Chivi North MP Mathias Tongofa and some of its notable members include acting Zifa president Gift Banda and ex-Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda. 
The parliamentary committee also called for amendments to section 34 of the SRC Act [Chapter 25:15].
An official in the SRC board who spoke in his own capacity said SRC would only be guided by the findings of the forensic audit into ZIFA’s financial affairs which is set to be released soon. The official told NewsDay:

The report is obviously authored by Omega Sibanda, with very little input or even knowledge of the other committee members. It is riddled with embarrassing errors.
The recommendations violate both international and domestic law norms, and display an alarming ignorance of the governance shortcomings within Zifa; luckily Fifa has acknowledged these shortcomings by banning a senior Zifa official for sexual harassment of female referees.

The official said the committee’s recommendations implicitly condone sexual harassment and other corrupt practices within the running of football and tread upon the statutory mandate and independence of the SRC.
The ban has affected players and Zimbabwe has since missed some competitions much to the annoyance of football lovers.

Parliament Gives Minister Coventry Ultimatum To Ensure SRC Reverses Suspension Of ZIFA Board

Football players in the Kenyan topflight league clubs have refused to play football until the deadlock between the country’s government and FIFA has been resolved.
Like Zimbabwe, Kenya was banned by FIFA over government interference in the administration of the game.
The two nations are banned from taking part in any FIFA-sanctioned event and were booted out of continental competitions for both the national teams and the clubs.
Kenyan football teams have taken a stand to stop playing in the topflight league, hoping to force their government to mend its relations with FIFA.
According to the Nation, Gor Mahia chief executive Raymond Oruo read a joint statement from the 18 topflight clubs, saying the teams would only honour fixtures when the current standoff between FIFA and the Kenyan government is resolved.
The clubs on Wednesday said they would not take part in the 2022/23 season. Oruo said:

We will not take part in any competition that is not recognised or sanctioned by world governing body because it is really a waste of investment and time and very little return coming through.

He said the failure of Kenyan club Tusker to participate in the Caf Champions League was one of the issues which informed their decision.
In Zimbabwe, football players have been taking to social media to express their frustrations at the ban on Zimbabwe by FIFA, also hoping to influence the local authorities to act to get the ban lifted.
Recently, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) said getting the ban lifted was not one of its priorities, but would rather press on with its ZIFA restructuring exercise which could culminate in elections next year.
FIFA previously indicated that it will endorse the outcome of the ZIFA elections stressing that the ban can only be lifted if ZIFA board members Felton Kamambo, Philemon Machana and Bryton Malandule are reinstated.
They were fired last year when SRC dissolved the board last year over alleged maladministration.

Footballers In Kenyan Topflight League Clubs Refuse To Play Over FIFA Ban

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has reiterated that it is not their priority to lobby for the lifting of Zimbabwe’s FIFA suspension.
In a statement released on Saturday, 10 September 2022, SRC said its focus is on the implementation of far-reaching fundamental reforms in local football which include the crafting of a new ZIFA constitution in December and the holding of elections in 2023. <h2>TRIPARTITE MEETING WITH THE SPORTS AND RECREATION COMMISSION, ZIMBABWE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION AND THE ZIFA FOOTBALL RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE.</h2>
On the 7th September 2022, the Sports and Recreation Commission (“SRC”), the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and the ZIFA Restructuring Committee (“Restructuring Committee’) met for the first time since the suspension of the ZIFA Executive Committee by the SRC in November 2021.
The purpose of the meeting was, in the first instance, to receive an update from ZIFA regarding the implementation of certain conditions to which the lifting of the suspension of the ZIFA Executive Committee on 8th June 2022, was subject to.
Secondly, the meeting provided an opportunity for BDO Chartered Accountants to provide a progress report on the forensic audit that they are presently carrying out on the financial affairs of ZIFA.
Lastly, the Restructuring Committee gave an update on the progress it has made in discharging the tasks forming a part of its terms of reference.
For its part, the SRC outlined its expectations for parties to start to put into place an agreed framework populated by specific tasks and deadlines (‘Implementation Matrix’) regarding matters agreed as requiring reform.
In this respect, it was noted and agreed in principle that: –
1. The BDO forensic audit report will be availed at the end of September 2022. Presently, certain of the current and former members of the ZIFA Executive Committee, as well as the General Secretary, have been asked by BDO to provide clarity and insight into certain transactions relating to the finances of ZIFA. These responses are the main outstanding issues before the report is finalized.
2. Likewise, the Restructuring Committee expects to complete its findings and final recommendations to the SRC within a period that will allow ZIFA members in a general meeting to consider the same for adoption. The recommendations will form the basis of the implementation Matrix; it being noted that the Restructuring Committee submitted its preliminary findings to the SRC in August 2022
3. Upon the submission of the final BDO forensic audit report as well as that of the Restructuring Committee, ZIFA shall convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of its members to consider the same. It is the expectation of the SRC that this EGM takes place in the month of October 2022.
4. Thereafter, the issues adopted during the EGM will form the basis of the Implementation Matrix (with times and deadlines for the discharge of agreed reform goals). This matrix will be made available to FIFA and CAF.
5. The same Implementation Matrix as well as the full details of the BDO forensic report and the findings and recommendations of the restructuring committee will be made available to the public in line with the SRC’s previous undertaking in this respect.
6. A key component of the Implementation Matrix is the adoption of a new constitution by the members of ZIFA in December 2022, after which and subject to the provisions of the new constitution, the holding of new elections from grassroots structures to the Executive Committee level in early 2023.
7. SRC reiterated that it was not the Commission’s priority to lobby for the lifting of ZIFA’s suspension as a member of FIFA. Its focus was on the implementation of far-reaching fundamental reforms in the administration of football in Zimbabwe.

Lifting Of FIFA Sanctions On Zimbabwe Not A Priority - SRC

The president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nick Mwendwa is back in office in a development that is expected to result in the lifting of sanctions imposed by FIFA.
In 2021, Mwendwa was suspended after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed ordered investigations into the federation’s finances.
FIFA responded by banning Kenya from all international football competitions citing government interference in running the game in the East African country.
The Kenyan government appointed a transition committee to take over the operations at KFK but FIFA disowned the committee.
Following six months of investigation, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) withdrew charges levelled against the FA boss, allowing him to resume his duties.
In a letter addressed to FIFA, Mwendwa confirmed that he has resumed his duties at KFK. He wrote:

Reference is made to my letter dated November 29, 2021, with regard to the interim transfer of my powers and responsibilities as FKF President to the FKF Vice President.
In this regard, following the withdrawal of charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on July 8, 2022, I hereby wish to inform your good office that I have resumed my duties as the FKF president, with immediate effect, in accordance with Article 42 of the FKF constitution (2017).

Once FIFA acknowledges the letter, the sanctions against the Kenyan FA will be lifted.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is still banned after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) failed to meet FIFA’s orders to reinstate suspended ZIFA president Felton Kamambo.

Kenya Football Association President Reinstated

France-based Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi has reiterated his call for the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to resolve their differences amicably so that FIFA will rescind its suspension of Zimbabwe from international football.
In a Facebook post, Munetsi, who plays for French club Reims, said if the current situation is allowed to continue, Zimbabwe stands to lose losing a generation of talented footballers. Said Munetsi:

On the 2nd of March 2022 I posted regarding the ban on our National teams from international football and how lives have been impacted by the ban, this ban has spilt over to our local football clubs, they can’t take part in regional continental tournaments.
I come back again, pleading with the relevant authorities and all parties involved to find a workable solution to this matter.
As things stand we are losing a generation of talented footballers, they are not being exposed to scouting opportunities from abroad as a result and it is Zimbabwean football that will suffer in a few years’ time, and it is the fans who are being denied to right to watch the game they so dearly love. 
Once again I plead with the relevant parties to find a workable solution to this matter so that our beautiful nation gets to enjoy our beautiful game.

FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football early this year after SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board in October last year.
The world governing body ordered SRC to unconditionally reinstate the suspended board for it to lift Zimbabwe’s suspension. However, SRC has hitherto refused to reverse its decision.
Zimbabwe has already been barred from taking part in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the African Nations Championships (CHAN) and this year’s edition of the COSAFA Cup because of the FIFA suspension.

Marshall Munetsi Pleads With SRC, ZIFA To End Zimbabwe's Isolation

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khama Billiat said that the suspension of Zimbabwe from international football by FIFA is destroying the careers of local footballers as they lack exposure.
The former Warriors talisman told the South African media that playing in the national team gives players exposure so that they may end up getting lucrative deals abroad but this is no longer possible because of the ban. Said Billiat:

There are a number of good players who need to play in the national team to get exposure.
So It’s not a nice thing to have good players who deserve to be playing in bigger leagues but because of the lack of exposure, they are limited.

Khama moved to South Africa at a young age and played for Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and now Kaizer Chiefs.
In 2021, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the legitimate Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board led by Felton Kamambo on a litany of unsubstantiated allegations that included misappropriation of funds and sexual harassment of female referees.
FIFA has refused to endorse the suspension, and as a consequence, Zimbabwe was suspended from participating in international football early this year.
SRC has since reinstated some members of the ZIFA executive board minus Kamambo, Joseph Mamutse and Bryton Malandule.
FIFA has refused to recognise the new ZIFA board led by Gift Banda and has insisted that Kamambo should be reinstated for the suspension to be lifted.

SRC Obstinance Killing Careers, Says Khama Billiat

Zimbabwe has been barred from participating in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions in the 2022/23 season.
CAF excluded Zimbabwean teams from the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws held in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.
The development comes after the Sports and Recreational Commission (SRC) failed to meet FIFA conditions for the world football governing body to overturn Zimbabwe’s suspension from international tournaments.
Zimbabwe has already been barred from participating in the AFCON, CHAN and COSAFA Cup tournaments following the suspension.
The first round of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches will take place between September 9 and September 18, while the second round matches are set for October 7 till October 16.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football early this year after the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board in November last year in violation of FIFA statutes that prohibit third-party interference.
FIFA has since directed the SRC to reinstate the suspended board for the world football governing board to lift the suspension on Zimbabwe.
However, SRC says it is not bothered by the suspension but will continue to implement what it calls long-term reforms to clean up local football.

CAF Excludes Zimbabwe From Inter-club Competitions

Suspended ZIFA board members say they are ready to stand trial and clear their names following their suspension by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in November 2021 on a litany of allegations.
The five are in court accused of abusing the ZIFA letterhead, writing letters claiming to be the executive members yet they were on suspension.
They have been pushing for their trial but the State has been seeking postponements on the pretext of completing investigations.
On Friday, prosecutor Anesu Chirenje sought another postponement to September saying the docket had been sent back to the police station for completion of investigations.
But the five’s attorney, Admire Rubaya challenged postponement, saying they should be freed if the State is not ready for trial. Said Rubaya:

The accused persons are viewed as thieves in the court of public opinion but thieves are those that have invaded the ZIFA house. All they are saying is give us a trial date.
They want to assert their rights and clear their names but the State is developing jelly legs.
If they are not ready to put them on trial they should let them go and summon them when they are ready.
They know there was no offence committed and they are stuck with the docket.

Rubaya said the suspension of the ZIFA board and the appointment of an “illegitimate” new ZIFA board led by Gilbert Banda amounted to a “coup”. He said:

We can’t have a situation where certain individuals force out legitimate leaders that were legitimately elected into office. If it was in politics this would be a coup.

'Thieves Are Those Who Have Invaded ZIFA House', Says Kamambo

Zimbabwean footballers including rookies and established professionals plying their trade in Europe’s best leagues have expressed their frustration over the country’s continued suspension from international football.
In November last year, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), a government body that controls sports in the country, removed Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Felton Kamambo and his entire executive.
SRC accused the ZIFA board of corruption, maladministration and sexual harassment of female match officials.
Early this year, Zimbabwe was expelled from the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after the SRC refused to comply with a FIFA directive to reinstate the ZIFA officials.
It remains unclear when Zimbabwe will play international football again.
Speaking to Al Jazeera recently, 19-year-old Bill Antonio, who flew out for a month-long trial with Belgian club KV Mechelen last week, said:

The ban closed opportunities for us young players. It slowed down things in terms of marketing ourselves out there because international football is where everyone is noticed.
It’s an opportunity missed indeed because the more opportunities to play international football, the greater your profile becomes.

AFC Bournemouth defender, Jordan Zemura (22), told Al Jazeera said he was gutted by the suspension.
Zemura, a roving wing-back, who played a significant role in Bournemouth’s promotion to the English Premier League, was part of the Warriors squad at the 2021 AFCON finals.
Zemura, who has been capped six times by Zimbabwe, arrived late in Cameroon for the tournament and only played one full game for the Warriors. He said:

I’m gutted that we won’t be able to have the chance to qualify [for AFCON].
I’m hoping that things can be resolved as playing for my country is everything to me. Missing these tournaments and opportunities hurt.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, SRC chairman Gerald Mlotshwa, told Al Jazeera that they “expected the ban” from FIFA. He said:

There was an obvious disappointment from some quarters, especially the football fans who just want to see the Warriors playing.
But I think that they, too, will come to appreciate that the suspension is for the long-term benefit of the game in Zimbabwe.

Marshall Munetsi (26), a midfielder at French side Reims, said the ban will negatively affect the present and future generations of footballers. He said:

Missing AFCON is a very big disappointment to the players and fans.
I missed out on the last tournament because of injury and then not being able to represent my country again is even more disappointing.
The future of our football is clouded in uncertainty because we have no clue of what’s going on. Everyone is concerned with how the situation was handled.
The current generation, and those that will come, will lose big opportunities to chase their dreams and change their lives through football.

Mlotshwa, however, seemingly doesn’t feel players’ pain and believes time away from international football will help Zimbabwean football in the long run. He said:

FIFA Ban 'Will Affect Present And Future Generations' Of Zimbabwean Footballers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says the recently appointed ZIFA executive led by Gift Banda is illegitimate and should, among other things, stop using the funds deposited by CAF or FIFA in the ZIFA bank accounts.
In a letter dated 20 July 2022, addressed to the Secretary General of ZIFA, CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba said ZIFA’s suspension is still in place and will only be lifted once the stipulated conditions are met.
The conditions include SRC reinstating Felton Kamambo and Joseph Mamutse and the commission withdrawing a court case against the pair. Pindula News is publishing the letter from CAF to ZIFA below:

<h2>RE: Recent Developments and Status in Zimbabwean Football</h2>
We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 14 June 2022.
We refer to the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 suspending ZIFA on the basis of Article 14 paragraphs 1 i) and 3 of the FIFA Statutes as well as Article 16 paragraph 1, of the FIFA Statutes as ratified by the FIFA Congress meeting of 31 March 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
The above decision is clear and unequivocal that the suspension will only be lifted if:
(i) The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) repeals the decision of 26 November 2020 suspending the ZIFA General Secretary
(ii) SRC repeals the SRC decision of 16 November 2021 suspending the ZIFA Board
(iii) SRC repeals the SRC decision of 17 December 2021 setting up the restructuring committee
(iv) FIFA receives confirmation from ZIFA and its management, led by President Felton Kamambo and General Secretary Joseph Mamutse, that ZIFA and its premises are once more under their full and unconditional control; and
(v) SRC withdraws the court case against the ZIFA President, three other ZIFA Board members and the General Secretary for allegedly misusing ZIFA’s letterheads
However, CAF’s attention has since been drawn to a number of developments, inter alia:
(i) An Extraordinary General Assembly meeting convened on 23 April 2022 during which a decision was apparently taken to revoke the mandate of three Executive Committee members including the President Mr. Kamambo and two others Mr. Malandule and Mr. Machana.
(ii) A letter dated 24 May 2022 from the SRC to ZIFA lifting its suspension of ZIFA’s Secretary General but subjecting the same to certain unspecified conditions.
(iii) A letter dated 8 June 2022 from SRC lifting the suspensions of three Executive Committee members, Mrs. Barbara Chikosi and Messrs. Farai Jere and Sugar Chagonda whilst confirming that BDO Chartered Accountants have commenced their forensic audit into the financial and operational affairs of ZIFA; and
(iv) That with the assistance of the SRC, a committee claiming to be the bona fide ZIFA Executive Committee has made themselves signatories to ZIFA’s bank accounts and is subsequently transacting the proceeds deposited by CAF and FIFA.
We would like to inform you as follows:
1. The SRC’s letters dated 24 May and 8 June 2022 contravene Article 7 paragraph 1(a) and
(g) of the CAF Statutes which respectively state as follows:
“ARTICLE 7
MEMBERS’ OBLIGATIONS
Members of CAF shall have the following obligations:
a)To respect, and ensure that their own members respect, at all times unreservedly the principles of ethics and fair play enacted by CAF and FIFA, the principles of integrity and sportsmanship as well as the Statutes, regulations, decisions and directives of CAF and FIFA.
g) To manage their affairs independently and free of intrusions and interferences of any kind by any person or body”
2. None of the conditions stated in the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 as
ratified by the FIFA Congress on 31 March 2022 has been fully and unconditionally met.
3. Pursuant to Article 16 paragraph 3 of the FIFA Statutes, “A suspended member association may not exercise any of its membership rights.”, such rights being defined in Article 13 of the FIFA Statutes.
Consequently, CAF hereby directs ZIFA to immediately cease using and accessing any funds deposited by FIFA or CAF in the ZIFA accounts.
Please note that a breach of this directive will be regarded as a violation of the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 as ratified by the FIFA Congress on 31 March 2022 and may subject ZIFA or the officials involved to disciplinary sanctions.
CAF will continue to monitor the developments in Zimbabwean football.

CAF Says New ZIFA Executive Is Illegitimate

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) acting president, Gift Banda, said he honours those who served at the association before him.
Banda’s made the remarks on Thursday after a consultative meeting with former ZIFA and COSAFA President Phillip Chiyangwa as part of his engagement with former ZIFA presidents.
Chiyangwa recently facilitated a meeting between Gift Banda and the incumbent leader of the regional football bloc, Artur de Almeida, reported <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-chiyangwa-to-assist-zifa-engage-fifa">The Sunday Mail</a>.
Banda said Chiyangwa assured the ZIFA executive that he will assist them in reaching out to FIFA for the lifting of Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football. Banda said:

We come to tap [from] the knowledge and wisdom that they have. It’s not like past presidents never did anything good for Zimbabwean football. They did.
Our football has been in intensive care and we want to take it out of there. How do we do that?
By engaging every stakeholder within the football family so that we do the right things.
Hon. Dr Phillip Chiyangwa has done a lot in a short period of time since we assumed office. 
He is the person who opened the door for us to go and meet the COSAFA President and he is opening more channels for us to engage the leadership on the continent.
We know with him next to us, we will not fail. He has assured us that he will hold our hands and walk with us as we traverse this difficult journey that we find ourselves in.

Chiyangwa Promised To Hold Our Hands, Says Acting ZIFA Boss Gift Banda

Former Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Philip Chiyangwa says he can help Zimbabwe to have the FIFA ban lifted and be re-admitted into international football tournaments.
The ZANU PF politician claims to be a close friend of FIFA boss Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino.
Chiyangwa is also a former Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) boss.
Addressing a press conference in Harare on Thursday, Chiyangwa said he was impressed by the efforts of the acting ZIFA president, Gift Banda. He said:

As you know, my last office was COSAFA in South Africa; it’s a regional body as you know.
A few weeks ago, I stepped down, this is due to many other commitments I have here.
But I can say his (Banda) foresight is good together with board members Farai Jere here and Alois Masepe.
Turning to the issue of the ban, that’s what I want to work with them (ZIFA) and Government, and ensure that the ban is lifted and football is played and we are all enjoying it.

Chiyangwa Says He Will Assist ZIFA Engage FIFA Over Ban

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has written to FIFA to inform them of the latest developments in local football.
ZIFA is courting FIFA to have Zimbabwe readmitted to the global football family after the country was suspended from all international football tournaments early this year for violating FIFA statutes.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, acting ZIFA president Gift Banda said they are hopeful FIFA will accept the outcome of the ZIFA Emergency General Meeting (EGM) held in April this year. Said, Banda:

We are trying to express to FIFA that what we did (extraordinary general meeting) was according to our constitution …
We also followed the opinions of FIFA on how we were supposed to hold our EGM, and we doubt very much that FIFA will be interested in individuals more than the association.
It is our hope FIFA will understand that the ZIFA board is not individuals. We wrote to them (FIFA) and we now await their response.

Banda was elected interim president after the ZIFA EGM that cut ties with then-president Felton Kamambo, Philemon Machana and Brighton Malandule.
The same ZIFA EGM lifted the suspensions of Barbra Chikosi, Farai Jere and Sugar Chagonda with immediate effect.
Chikosi, Jere and Chagonda are Zimbabwe Women Soccer League chairperson, Premier Soccer League chairman, and ZIFA board member in charge of competitions, in that order.
Banda was elected vice president in 2018 but spent most of his tenure on the sidelines after he was suspended by Kamambo in January 2019.

ZIFA Engages FIFA On Way Forward After Holding EGM

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has appealed to players and fans to be patient with authorities as they implement measures to eradicate the various challenges bedevilling local football.
This comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) expelled the Warriors from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers which start next month.
Early this year, FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football due to Government interference in ZIFA matters, after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) dissolved the ZIFA board.
In a statement, ZIFA acting president Gift Banda said it is crucial to address the problems within local football rather than prioritising international tournaments. Said, Banda:

We feel the pain of the fans, and our players, who have found themselves on the sidelines, especially with regards to our absence from the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
But we also appeal to them to understand and appreciate that for us to prioritise participation in international tournaments, right now, when our house is on shaky ground, will not be beneficial for our football.
I, therefore, appeal for patience and everyone involved in football to let the reform process take its course because, in the end, the mission will be for the benefit of all who are part of our beautiful game.
Crucially, it will be for the benefit of future generations, our next generation of Warriors who, in the previous set-up, have found themselves on the sidelines without being exposed to the international tournaments, of their age groups, to help in their development.
Admittedly, it is painful that our country will, for the first time, not participate in the qualifiers of Africa’s flagship tournament.
But it is of paramount importance to emphasise that there is a myriad of problems bedevilling our beautiful game and authorities have embarked on firm corrective measures to reform the game.
These fundamental and deep-seated problems require the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in order to resolve them.

"We Feel Your Pain," ZIFA Tells Warriors Fans

The Warriors have been named as one of the 12 countries from the COSAFA region that will play in the qualifiers for the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
This is despite the fact that Zimbabwe is suspended from international football by FIFA.
Three teams from the COSAFA region will qualify for the finals to be held in Algeria in January next year.
Zimbabwe was on Thursday paired with Malawi in the first round of the 2022 CHAN qualifiers.
All qualifying ties are set to be played over two legs, with the winners on aggregate progressing.
First-round first leg matches will be played between 22 and 24 July with the return legs a week later.
Only locally-based players are eligible to participate in the CHAN tournament.
However, Zimbabwe’s participation in the CHAN tournament is by no means guaranteed as they will be disqualified if the FIFA ban is not lifted two weeks from the kick-off of the CHAN games.

Zimbabwe To Face Malawi In CHAN Qualifiers

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) says Zimbabwe will not participate in this year’s tournament unless FIFA lifts the country’s suspension from international football.
The 2022 edition of the COSAFA Cup competition will be held from 5-17 July in Durban, South Africa.
The draw has been scheduled for 31 May when the teams that will participate in the tournament will be announced. COSAFA said on Monday:

As things stand, Zimbabwe will not be on hand to compete for the title this year after their suspension by FIFA prohibits them from taking part in any football activities.
However, should that suspension be lifted, they will be welcomed to the tournament with open arms, having had such a rich history in the COSAFA Cup down the years and provided so much quality talent for the region.

Zimbabwe Barred From 2022 COSAFA Cup Tournament

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expelled Zimbabwe and Kenya from their respective groups ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
CAF made the drastic move after both nations failed to have their suspensions by FIFA lifted. Both Zimbabwe and Kenya were suspended by FIFA for political interference.
A statement issued by CAF on Monday, 23 May 2022, confirming Zimbabwe and Kenya’s expulsion from the qualifiers read:

As a consequence of having failed to have their suspensions by FIFA set aside, CAF has confirmed that both Kenya and Zimbabwe will not participate in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 qualifiers.
The qualifiers will kick off on the first day of June 2022.
CAF had included them in the official draw earlier in April 2022 on condition that the suspension must be lifted two weeks before their first match day.
Kenya and Zimbabwe, suspended for political interference, have not yet met the criteria required by the FIFA Congress as a prerequisite for lifting their suspension. As a result:
<h2>Because of the suspension, the following will apply:</h2>
<ul>
<li>The two associations; Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)will be considered losers and eliminated from the competition.</li>
<li>Groups C and K will be composed only of three teams and the order of the matches will be maintained in accordance with the match schedule that has been communicated to the teams after the draw.</li>
<li>The first and runner-up teams of those groups will qualify for the final tournament.</li>
</ul>
