The main opposition party in Zimbabwe, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has expressed concern over the actions of Mr. Fikile Mbalula, a South African national and Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC). The party believes that Mbalula’s conduct undermines the stability and democracy of Zimbabwe. This statement comes after Mbalula stated that there would be no fresh elections, despite the CCC’s demand for them.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the CCC called on Mbalula to act diplomatically and refrain from supporting ZANU PF in its attempts to reverse or undermine the damning report on “Zimbabwe’s flawed election” by the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Read the statement:

<h3>Mr Mbalula’s conduct undermines Zimbabwe’s stability and democracy</h3>
We note with grave concern Mr. Mbalula’s bizarre biases and proactive involvement in the ZANU PF political process. We urge Mr. Mbalula to put back his diplomatic jacket and abstain from doing the bidding for ZANU PF in trying to reverse or undermine the SADC damning report on Zimbabwe’s sham election. Mr. Mbalula’s conduct is in violation of the values and principles of democracy, pan-Africanism, and Ubuntu. We still believe that South Africa must play a key role in resolving the Zimbabwean stalemate, and Mr. Mbalula’s conduct undermines this imperative.
South Africa and indeed the rest of the region stand to benefit more from a stable Zimbabwe, not least the relief South African economy will derive from a sound political and economic atmosphere in Zimbabwe.
This would incentivize the return of the majority of our people who have sought economic sanctuary in South Africa but who are raring to return to Zimbabwe as soon as the region has completed the process of assisting Zimbabwe.
This crucial process requires sober and objective engagements between South Africa and Zimbabwean political leaders, namely President Nelson Chamisa and Mr. Mnangagwa.
It is our considered view that Zimbabwe needs to conduct a fresh, free, and fair election underwritten by SADC and AU as the only route towards political stabilization and legitimacy.
We will soon be writing formally to the ANC to remonstrate on this issue.

Some Context:
Following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent “controversial re-election” in Zimbabwe, Fikile Mbalula, who remained in Harare after the low-key inauguration, expressed doubt about the possibility of fresh elections in the country. Mbalula met with his ZANU-PF counterpart, Obert Mpofu, at the ruling party’s headquarters. Despite efforts by the main opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), led by Nelson Chamisa, to push for new elections, Mbalula stated that the likelihood of that happening was very low. Although international and regional monitors discredited the election, Mbalula emphasized that Zimbabwe is a sovereign nation responsible for determining its own fate. He said:

International observers have no mandate to cause the invalidation of polls, but whatever they would have raised will be used to perfect future elections.

After Mnangagwa’s inauguration, Mpofu expressed gratitude for the ANC’s support and stated that the administration was ready to begin working. However, the event was boycotted by African leaders, including SADC chairperson João Lourenço and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who chairs the Troika Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security. This came after Chamisa decided not to pursue legal action, citing concerns of judicial bias, in his attempt to prevent Mnangagwa’s inauguration as the leader of Zanu-PF.

CCC: Mbalula's "No Fresh Elections" Remarks Undermine Zimbabwe's Stability And Democracy

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has said illegal migrants are putting a heavy strain on the country’s fiscus with adverse effects on service delivery and high unemployment, among other things.
Mbalula made the remarks while addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference over the weekend.
He said the issue of illegal migrants has been a ticking time bomb for the country. Mbalula said:

Illegal immigrants put a heavy strain on the fiscus with adverse effects on service delivery, the overstretched health sector, high unemployment and poverty.
Illegal immigrants have been a ticking time bomb for the country, which has been an albatross of the ANC-led government to accelerate service delivery at a faster pace and the outbreak of violence as attested to by the violent attacks in Diepsloot on June 21.

Mbalula implored communities to exercise restraint and avoid damage to property and life.
Last week Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi briefed the ANC’s national working committee (NWC) on migration.
He suggested changes to immigration policies, including amendment proposals on citizenship, immigration and refugee protection.
Mbalula said the ANC’s NWC noted the briefing and emphasised the need for a balance between national interests and international solidarity, particularly within the Pan-African context.
On 07 June, this year, Motsoaledi extended the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP), which would have expired at the end of June, to 31 December 2023.
The extension of the ZEP permit means that holders can enter and leave South Africa provided they comply with all other requirements for crossing the border.

ANC Says Illegal Immigrants A Burden On South Africa's Fiscus

A senior official of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), has blamed the United States and the United Kingdom for the mass exodus of Zimbabweans from their country to South Africa.
Speaking at the party’s Western Cape elective conference on Saturday, 24 June, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said it looks as if all Zimbabweans have migrated to South Africa.
Mbalula said Zimbabweans are everywhere, from Gugulethu to Khayelitsha.
Gugulethu is a township in the Western Cape Province and is 15 km from Cape Town, while Khayelitsha is located on the Cape Flats in the City of Cape Town.
Mbalula claimed that Zimbabwe’s economic challenges that have resulted in mass emigration were caused by the U.S. and Britain. He said:

Zimbabwe as a country has moved to South Africa. From Gugulethu to Khayelitsha, there is Zimbabwe there.
The whole country of Zimbabwe has moved to South Africa. And then we say to the Americans… the British, give Zimbabwe what they deserve.
Because you agreed in Lancaster that you will give them £40 billion for the land reform and redistribution programme.

There have been clashes between South Africans and immigrants from other African countries.
Zimbabwean national <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Elvis_Nyathi">Mbodazwe Elvis Nyathi</a> was killed in a Xenophobic attack in Diepsloot Ext 1, northern Johannesburg on the night of 6 April 2022.
He was killed by a mob who were going around the neighbourhood demanding to see identity documents.
On Wednesday, 07 June, South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi extended the validity of the <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwean_Exemption_Permit_Visa">Zimbabwe Exemption Permit</a> (ZEP) dispensation.
He said the holder of a ZEP permit will be allowed to enter and exit South Africa, provided they comply with all entry or exit requirements.
ZEP holders would not be required to present an exemption permit or authorisation letter to remain in the country during the extension period.

Zimbabwe As A Country Has Moved To South Africa - ANC

South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC)’s secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has been implementing reforms but the West still wants CCC’s Nelson Chamisa to become Zimbabwe’s new president.
Addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference on Saturday, 24 June, Mbalula said:
<blockquote>
(President) Mnangagwa brought some reforms in Zimbabwe, but they (the West) did not want those reforms because they want a man called (Nelson) Chamisa.
They want him there to be the leader; the new leader of a new Zimbabwe.
And then we say to the Americans and say to the British, give the Zimbabweans what they deserve, because you agreed in Lancaster that you will give them £40 billion for land reform and redistribution programme.

Meanwhile, Chamisa kicked off his campaign ahead of the August 23 elections by addressing Zimbabweans based in South Africa.
Addressing a campaign rally in Johannesburg on Saturday, Chamisa pleaded with Zimbabweans in that country to support the CCC. He said:

Lets us go back and mobilise, we count on you. We want you to help with resources, one rand or US$1 can make a huge difference.
Zambians did it, Malawians also did it, Kenyans also did it, they did it in DRC…if they are doing it, why can’t we also do it?
</blockquote>
In the 2018 elections, Chamisa lost to Mnangagwa by a narrow margin and he challenged the results in court alleging rigging.
However, Mnangagwa’s victory was upheld by the Constitutional Court.

West Wants Chamisa As Zimbabwe's Next President, Says Mbalula

The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has said he can only be removed from power through the ballot amid calls by the opposition EFF for him to relinquish his post.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) led by Julius Malema plan to lead a national shutdown on Monday 20 March 2023 over the electricity crisis and to force Ramaphosa to step down.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said law enforcement officials have been briefed to ensure no anarchy and disorder are permitted on the day.  
Ramaphosa warned the red berets he can only be removed through the ballot adding “regime change … can’t come about through anarchy or disorder in the country“.  
He made the remarks at the Union Buildings during a state visit by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/politics/political-parties/eff-shutdown-only-way-to-get-me-out-of-office-is-by-a-vote-not-anarchy-and-disorder-says-ramaphosa-20230316">News24</a> reported.
Ramaphosa added while the right to protest was enshrined in the Constitution, it did not give the EFF the right to infringe on the rights of the rest of the citizenry. He said:

The right to protest is deeply embedded in our Constitution and is a right that we as South Africans fought for and won so that South Africans can protest against what may be concerning issues, but that right is not absolute. It is a limited right not underpinned by violence. We met with our security cluster yesterday, and they will defend our people from any planned attempts to destabilise the country. 
It is [the protest] aimed at the president, the energy crisis must be resolved, and the cost of living is too high … our politics is fractious, we are divided, and this is also an issue of us into the elections next year.  
Many parties, when we go to an election, start positioning themselves because they want to win the vote and position themselves in a way that is completely different from the governing party.
But what I would like to say is that the rule of law governs South Africa, we are a constitutional democracy. The right to protest is not underpinned by violence. We will not allow anarchy…

His utterances come after EFF leader Julius Malema reiterated on Wednesday his party would go ahead with its planned protest, which he said would be conducted in an orderly manner.  
On Wednesday, ANC sectary-general Fikile Mbalula said EFF leaders should be held personally liable for any deaths or destruction on Monday.

Ramaphosa Says He Can Only Be Removed Via Ballot

Fikile Mbalula, the secretary-general of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), said that Zimbabwe will remain South Africa’s problem for a long time.
Mbalula made the remarks while speaking at an ANC Youth League fundraiser in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning, reported <a href="https://ewn.co.za/2023/03/08/issues-in-zim-will-be-sa-s-problem-for-the-longest-time-says-mbalula">Eye Witness News</a>.
He said South Africa will have to deal with Zimbabweans coming into the country in search of better living and working conditions.
Mbalula also called for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West, saying the United States of America and Britain wanted regime change. He said:

We’ve got a problem here in Zimbabwe and it’s brewing. And you think it’s going to be the problem of the Americans; it’s going to be our problem for the longest of time.
Americans must give peace a chance… We need a roundtable; we need peaceful negotiations.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe is expecting to receive tens of thousands of its citizens from South Africa in the coming months when their special permits (Zimbabwe Exemption Permit) expire on 30 June 2023.

Zimbabwe To Remain South Africa's Problem For A Long Time, Says ANC Secretary-general

ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has said musician AKA was assassinated.
The rapper, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, and his former manager Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, were shot in Durban on Friday night.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.enca.com/news/mbalula-aka-was-assassinated">eNCA</a>, Mbalula expressed confidence that the police will apprehend the killers. He said:

We can’t make speculations, but we know, it was a hit, AKA was assassinated.
We believe in the capacity of the police to dig deep and get the killers and also why it happened.
</blockquote>
Mbalula called for anyone with information to come forward.
Meanwhile, a prayer was held on Sunday evening in Durban by fans and industry peers for AKA and Tibz.
Ashleigh La Foy, who is an artist in Durban said that AKA gave South Africa timeless music.

Top ANC Official, Fikile Mbalula, Says AKA Was Assassinated

Journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono has criticised South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party for suggesting that Zimbabwe’s economic challenges were caused by sanctions imposed by western countries.
The ANC’s newly elected Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula on Monday said their position on Zimbabwe remained that they do not support regime change.
Addressing the media at Nasrec in Johannesburg soon after he was confirmed ANC secretary-general, Mbalula said:
<blockquote>
We don’t subscribe to the idea of regime change in Zimbabwe. We need to campaign very hard to get things right because Zimbabweans are coming to our country in their numbers because something is not right in their own country.
Once that country becomes what it was, there will be no Zimbabwean here. So, the British and the Americans must think very hard about what they have done.
They must uplift the sanctions so that Zimbabwe can grow as an economy and not use sanctions to deepen the pain and impoverishment of Zimbabweans. The British know what they agreed to in Lancaster.
They must come to the party and invest in the compensation of Zimbabweans in the programme of land reform distribution.
</blockquote>
Responding to Mbalula’s remarks, Chin’ono said the ANC has no understanding of what is wrong in Zimbabwe. Chin’ono posted on Facebook:

Dear South Africans
It is a pity that your ruling party has no understanding of what is wrong in Zimbabwe.
If the ANC continues with this attitude of supporting ZANU PF’s Corrupt Rule, be prepared for more Zimbabweans coming your way. The ANC has chosen propaganda over facts!
Fikile Mbalula has effectively said that the ANC will support rigged elections because he says they don’t want to see change in Zimbabwe.
That will also mean more illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe looking for a better future.
I am sure you now see what we have told you that your Government is the problem.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, who leads the Citizens Coalition for Change congratulated President Cyril Ramaphosa for being re-elected ANC president. He tweeted:

Meanwhile, ZANU PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi expressed delight over the development across the Limpopo River. He said:

Don’t forget that H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa has been to Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing St over removal sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Hopewell Chin’ono Says ANC "Has No Understanding Of What Is Wrong In Zim"

The newly-elected secretary-general of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, has said they will intensify assisting Zimbabwe to recover from decades of economic problems.
Addressing journalists in Joburg in his briefing in his new capacity as ANC secretary-general, Mbalula said:
<blockquote>
We must be very much concerned about what is happening in Zimbabwe, and what role we need to play. We do not subscribe to the idea of regime change in Zimbabwe.
We need to campaign very hard to get things right because Zimbabweans are coming to our country in their numbers.
Something is not right in their own country (and) we must support them. Once that country becomes what it was, there will be no Zimbabwean here.
So, the British must think very hard about what they have done, and the Americans. They must uplift the sanctions so that Zimbabwe can grow.

Mbalula urged the British government to honour a promise it reportedly made to Zimbabwe to compensate white farmers whose land was expropriated for redistribution to landless black about two decades ago. He said:

The British know what they agreed on in Lancaster. They must come to the party, and invest in the compensation of Zimbabwe in the programme of land redistribution. 
The 40 or something billion pounds they promised Mugabe and ZANU PF, they must come to the party and not use the land reform programme of ZANU PF as a scapegoat and run away.
They must come to the party, and Zimbabwe will be a better country. Zimbabweans never (used to) come into this country, which was the bread basket of the African continent. It was an economy that was alive, people were working in Zimbabwe.
Now you have Zimbabweans crossing (into South Africa), facing life and death … coming into our country because there is no life. Life is here in South Africa and that has burdened our economy.
As the ANC we will not agree in ideological terms, that Zimbabwe must be turned into a client State, next to us. So, we need to get that right.
We need to campaign for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, and the Cuban people.

Newly-elected ANC Secretary-general Speaks On Relations With ZANU PF

South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga lost several members of her family in a road accident that happened on the evening of Sunday, 17 July 2022 on the N11 outside Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Fikile Mbalula, the minister of Transport said Chikunga’s eldest son, died in the accident together with his wife and their four children. Reads the statement:

I have learnt with a deep sense of sadness on the passing of Deputy Minister, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga’s eldest son, his wife and their four children. The crash that claimed their lives occurred in the evening of Sunday, 17 July 2022 on the N11 outside Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal. Their vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another car, whose driver sustained serious injuries and is being treated in hospital. The Road Traffic Management Corporation will investigate the root cause of the crash and the report will be made available once the investigation has been concluded.
The tragic loss of a son and his entire family has left us all numb with disbelief and pain. I have reached out to Deputy Minister Chikunga in this hour of sadness and conveyed my heartfelt condolences for her loss. While words do little to console a bleeding heart and pain, I trust that she will find comfort in our support and strength to honour the memory of her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Theirs are lives that were taken too soon, candles whose flames were extinguished in the prime of their lives.
This tragic loss has strengthened our resolve to redouble our efforts to arrest the scourge of fatalities on our roads. One life lost is one life too many. The Deputy Minister is a staunch champion for road safety and there is no better fitting tribute to the memory of her loved ones than making a telling difference in saving life and limb on our roads.

A South African cop was filmed assaulting a motorist sparking outrage on social media with many agreeing the act constituted an abuse of power.
The cop is seen slapping the motorist and also draws and cocks a gun while ordering the motorist to vanish.
Fikile Mbalula, a South African politician who is currently serving as Minister of Transport, has already demanded to have information that could lead to the identification of the cop who was recorded assaulting the motorist.

Outrage As South African Cop Assaults Motorist (Video)

Last week, South African bigger than life TV personality <a href="https://imzansi.com/somizi-is-not-a-thief/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Somizi Mhlongo</a> handed himself to South African Police Service last week on Thursday and was briefly detained at Sandton Police station after he claimed the South African Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula told him that President Ramaphosa was going to extend the lockdown, The Chronicle reports.
According to the publication, Somizi was on Instagram Live with Dineo Ranaka when he made the claims and Fikile Mbalula reported him to the police which resulted in Somizi handing himself to the police. Somizi apologised to South Africa for making such claims.
South Africa Police spokesman, Vish Naidoo confirmed the incident and said Somizi was out on 1000 bail and will appear in court on 30 April.

South African Media Personality Somizi Arrested For Making A False Remark Regarding SA Lockdown Extension- Report

South Africa’s Ministry of Transport recently launched Operation Malaisha which targeted bus, freight and logistics transportation mainly headed towards Zimbabwe and Malawi.
On Wednesday evening, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula stopped several overloaded trailers at the Weighbridge heading to Limpopo. Speaking to reporters from the scene, Mbalula said:
<blockquote>Here we got a lot of unroadworthy vehicles and some of them weigh more than what is expected.
All those vehicles are being impounded.
This operation is taking place at night because people think that police are not working 24/7.</blockquote>
At this time of the year, there is an increase in the volume of human and vehicular traffic in South Africa moving towards the country’s northern gateway, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beitbridge" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Beitbridge</a>, towards the SADC region.
Tens of thousands of Zimbabweans, Malawians, among other nationalities, living and working in South Africa travel home for the festive season, leading to concerns about safety on South African roads.

South African Minister Impounds Overloaded Zim-bound Vehicles

The South African Government has responded to Xenophobia threats by South Africans against foreign truck drivers. The responsible ministries called the threats “economic sabotage perpetrated by criminal elements” and they have assured the rest of the world that action will be taken to counter the problem.
This came to light in a joint statement issued by these 4 ministers after an urgent meeting to address the issue:

<li>Transport Minister – Fikile Mbalula,</li>
<li>Police Minister – Bheki Cele,</li>
<li>Home Affairs Minister – Aaron Motsoaledi</li>
<li>Employment and Labour Minister -Thulas Nxesi</li>
</ol>
Part of the joint statement after the meeting read:
<blockquote>The meeting further noted that the events are turning more violent and criminal; the South African Police Service will continue to act against any acts of lawlessness. It is important to note that South Africa is not a xenophobic country and whoever is found on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with</blockquote>
The outcome made the following resolutions:
 
<ol>
<li>Law enforcement would ensure that the authority of the state was not undermined and increase visibility in violent hot spots</li>
<li>The department of international relations and cooperation, regional counterparts should be engaged to address this matter</li>
<li>There would be continuous joint inspections taking place in all provinces to ensure compliance in the sector</li>
<li>The task team had agreed to develop a clear action plan and provide regular updates on the progress made to the joint inter-ministerial task team.</li>

Steps Are Being Taken To Counter The Problem - SA Government On Xenophobia Threats

Responding to questions from an opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) party official during the release of annual crime statistics in Parliament on Tuesday, South African Police Minister Fikile Mbalula illegal Zimbabwean farm workers are behind robberies among other crimes committed in the neighbouring country.
In April this year, Mbalula alleged that Zimbabwean ex-soldiers were responsible for violent crimes occurring in the neighbouring country. Said Mbalula:
<blockquote>It’s true that there are criminals who are stealing from farms, undermining farmers work, but equally there are farmers who are wrong, because they employ people from Zimbabwe as cheap labour and exploit them, and then those people turn against them and kill them and then it becomes a safety question. o, I am saying to the farmers as I have met with them, stop that. Help me to ensure compliance, working with the department of labour. Don’t employ unregistered, undocumented foreigners in our country and when they turn against you, you blame the South African Police Service. We’ve got nowhere to find such people.</blockquote>
Chairman of the Zimbabwean Community in South Africa, Mr Ngqabutho Mabhena said Mbalula’s claims lack merit.

Fikile Mbalula attacks Zimbos again, claims illegal Zim farm workers are behind robberies

South Africa’s Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula has warned local farmers not to hire illegal immigrants as a source of cheap labour, saying that this posed a security risk. The minister went on to say in the event that the workers turned on their employers and killed them, the South African Police Service (SAPS) had no means of tracking the undocumented workers.
Responding to questions from an opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) official during the release of annual crime statistics to parliament Mbalula said:

Mbalula once sparked a diplomatic tiff when he claimed that Zimbabwean soldiers were deserting the military to commit crimes in South Africa. Back in April, Mbalula said:
<blockquote>There are people who come here from Zimbabwe, and they cross the line here. They run away from the military in Zimbabwe and they come here and promote criminality here in South Africa.
There are Zimbabwean ex-soldiers who are in this country, robbing banks and promoting criminality. They are running away from uncle Bob (President Robert Mugabe) there.</blockquote>

SA Minister Warns Farmers Against Hiring Illegal Zimbabwean Workers For Safety Reasons

South African Minister of Police Fikile has made an about turn on comments he made last week, in which he blamed Zimbabweans, particularly,<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/04/25/video-mbalula-accuses-former-zimbabwean-soldiers-committing-crimes-south-africa/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> ex-soldiers for committing crimes in South Africa</a>. Mbalula is now claiming that his comments were taken out of context as he was only referring to two specific incidents.
Mbalula’s spokesperson Mr Vuyo Muhanga told The Sunday Mail
<blockquote>The statement was taken completely out of context.
When the minister was speaking he was speaking to two specific issues.
The first being about the crime in an incident involving the five men who were responsible for robbing a jeweller in Johannesburg that happened recently and this was only an isolated incident.
…Basically, it was not a blanket statement and needs to be properly qualified in its proper context. He was simply referring to one isolated incident.</blockquote>

S.A. Police Minister backtracks on crime comments, says he was taken out of context

In a statement to the ZBC News today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to South Africa’s Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula’s remarks that former Zimbabwean soldiers are responsible for crimes in the neighbouring country. Simbarashe Mumbengegwi’s ministry also corrected Mbalula’s statement that once you are a soldier in Zimbabwe you are a soldier for life.
The statement reads:
<blockquote>We also wish to clarify that the Defence Act and the Constitution provides for the voluntary enlistment into the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and also sets out clear conditions of service and honourable termination including retirement. The Honourable Minister’s allegation that when one has joined the ZDF, it is impossible to orderly terminate such engagement is not borne by facts and in this regard, such allegations are malicious and mischievous to say the least. The government of Zimbabwe is therefore deeply concerned that such highly incendiary and careless outbursts come from a Minister who superintends law enforcement. We are concerned that the statement could easily be misinterpreted and trigger xenophobic sentiments.</blockquote>

Govt responds to Fikile Mbalula's statement that Zimbabwe's ex-soldiers are responsible for crimes in SA

South Africa’s Police Minister Fikile Mbalula yesterday told the South Africa Police Services to shoot to kill when confronting ruthless criminals, in order to protect their own lives.  The Minister also claimed that Zimbabwean <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/04/25/video-mbalula-accuses-former-zimbabwean-soldiers-committing-crimes-south-africa/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ex-soldiers were responsible for a lot of the crimes committed in  South Africa.</a>
Said Mbalula:
<blockquote>I am very clear that we must be ruthless against armed criminals who kill police, there is no retreat.
I am saying to them if they shoot you, shoot back. Shoot to kill if that is the case. Don’t allow [yourselves] to be killed whilst criminals are ruthless against you. The law protects you to fight back</blockquote>

Shoot to kill says S.A. Minister Mbalula to police

The Zimbabweanmbassador in South Africa has taken exception to earlier remarks by South African Police Minister Fikile Mbalula. Earlier on Tuesday,<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/04/25/video-mbalula-accuses-former-zimbabwean-soldiers-committing-crimes-south-africa/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> Mbalula had claimed that Zimbabwean ex-soldiers were causing ‘crime havoc’ in South Africa</a>.  Mbalula also erroneously claimed that in Zimbabwe, soldiers cannot leave the military and have to serve for life.
Said Moyo to the African News Agency:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwean government does not condone criminality by any of its citizens and the law must take its course wherever this is the case
We, however, cannot accept the many ill-informed elements in the said statement [Mbalula’s remarks] and we deeply regret that they were made without due regard to their accuracy.</blockquote>
