The trial of a ZANU PF member, Goodman Tamuona Musariri on charges of undermining or insulting the authority of President Emmerson Mnangagwa was expected to commence at the Bindura Magistrates Court this Monday.
According to his lawyers, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Musariri was arrested in 2020 in connection with his posts on social media.
He is accused of circulating messages on three WhatsApp groups endorsing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to take over leadership of the ZANU PF party as President Mnangagwa lacks authority and drive to lead the ruling party and Zimbabwe.
Musariri allegedly posted messages on three WhatsApp groups namely “People’s General Xi-wenga” “Zanu PF Mash Central Build Up” and “Legacy of our struggle” of which he is the administrator.
He is being represented by lawyers Tinomuda Shoko and Mutape Paidamoyo Saurombe of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

ZANU PF Official In Court For 'Undermining' Mnangagwa

Recently expelled ZANU PF Mashonaland Central official Goodman Tamuona Musariri has said he had a dream of leading Zimbabwe since he was nominated a group leader when he was in Grade 1.
The 40-year-old has vowed to challenge Mnangagwa’s legitimacy in the courts of law, saying his ascendancy through the “unsanctioned” ZANU PF central committee caucus of November 19, 2017, is unlawful, null and void. He said:
<blockquote>I have always wanted to lead Zimbabwe at least for a term or two since I was elected the group leader at school when I was in Grade 1 in 1987.
God had told me that I would be President after attaining 40 years together with Zimbabwe and I am going to become the first born-free President of Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
Musariri claimed to have worked for CBZ, Royal Bank and Legend Asset Management before he joined the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe where he said he worked as head of treasury operations, money market dealer, settlements manager, sinking funds and donor funds administrator and manager ledgers, among other roles.
Musariri is on remand on charges of undermining the authority of the president after he allegedly denounced President Emmerson Mnangagwa and called upon Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga to take over from his boss early this year.

Former ZANU PF Official Vows To Become First Born-free President

Former ZANU PF Mashonaland Central official Goodman Tamuona Musariri said that he is going challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy in the courts of law.
Speaking during an interview with NewsDay reporter Garikai Mafirakureva, Musariri said he supported the November 2017 military coup believing that then ZDF commander, General Constantino Chiwenga, would lead a “much-awaited” transitional authority to bring stability to Zimbabwe. Said Musariri:
<blockquote>I became a fan of the Operation Restore Legacy of November 2017 which was led by General Chiwenga and the army which I believed was going to end up with the formation of much-awaited transitional authority led by Chiwenga himself.
I find Mnangagwa’s ascendancy through the unsanctioned Zanu PF central committee caucus of November 19 2017 unlawful, null and void.
Chiwenga like any VP in Zanu PF is not an elected member of congress, but an appointee of the President to serve at Mnangagwa’s pleasure and mercy.
… the whole ‘new dispensation’ is voidable with Chiwenga’s position being held in abeyance or in suspense mode unless he claims the revision of Operation Restore Legacy after acknowledging the illegitimacy of the ascendancy of Mnangagwa…</blockquote>
Musariri was arrested on 3 April 2020 on charges of undermining the authority of the President after he allegedly called upon Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga to take over from his boss.
