Former First Lady <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Grace_Mugabe/">Grace Mugabe</a>, the widow of Zimbabwe’s late founding leader, Robert Mugabe, was in attendance at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration ceremony held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Monday. The presence of Grace Mugabe, accompanied by her daughter Bona and Robert Mugabe Junior, was met with cheers from the crowd, indicating that the former First Family still holds a measure of public support.
Considering the circumstances surrounding her husband’s departure from the political scene, where he was “forced” to resign following the military’s intervention and the dismissal of Mnangagwa as Vice President, it was uncertain whether Grace would attend the event. Bona had previously attended Mnangagwa’s initial inauguration, while Robert had been seen at various ZANU PF rallies.
When Grace approached the podium and embraced Mnangagwa, the stadium erupted with noise, creating an impression of reconciliation and potentially signalling her endorsement of Mnangagwa as the leader of the nation in Southern Africa.
Former Vice Presidents <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Phelekezela_Mphoko/">Phelekezela Mphoko</a> (considered a member of the G40 cabal) and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Joice_Mujuru/">Joice Mujuru</a>, along with losing presidential candidates <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lovemore_Madhuku/">Lovemore Madhuku</a>, Gwinyai Henry Muzorewa, and Harry Peter Wilson, were present at the event.
According to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pedzisai_Ruhanya/">Pedzisai Ruhanya</a>, a Zimbabwean academic, journalist, and political commentator, the return of former G40 members to ZANU PF after Mugabe’s ousting reveals the political dynamics within post-ED ZANU PF. Ruhanya who is also the director of the <a class="new" href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/index.php?title=Zimbabwe_Democracy_Institute&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1" title="Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (page does not exist)">Zimbabwe Democracy Institute</a> (ZDI), said:

The trooping back to ZANU PF of former G40 members after the coup against Mugabe as seen at the inauguration of President Mnangagwa and some’s appearances in media spaces controlled by the government indicate post-ED ZANU PF political dynamics.
</blockquote>
Some speculate that Grace Mugabe attended the event due to concerns that any misstep could lead to investigations into her family’s “ill-gotten” wealth. Additionally, there is an ongoing divorce case involving her daughter Bona and Simba Chikore, therefore, Mnangagwa could possibly influence the outcome. Joyce Mujuru’s attendance is seen as a move to protect her interests, as she became vulnerable after her husband’s mysterious death. Some say Phelekezela Mphoko’s presence may be an attempt to influence his son’s rape case, as Siqokoqela was convicted and sentenced for raping his 12-year-old niece but is currently out on bail pending an appeal.
Mnangagwa took oath of office in front of <a class="text__text__1FZLe text__inherit-color__3208F text__inherit-font__1Y8w3 text__inherit-size__1DZJi link__underline_default__2prE_" data-testid="Link" href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Luke_Malaba/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Chief Justice Luke Malaba</a> who in 2018 declared Mnangagwa as the winner following a constitutional court challenge. He said:

A number of African leaders, such as South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Mozambique leader Phillipe Nyusi, and Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi, attended the swearing-in ceremony. However, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema decided not to attend.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa/">Nelson Chamisa</a>, the leader of the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party, called for a fresh vote, claiming the election was “flawed.” However, his party did not legally challenge the results, allowing Mnangagwa’s inauguration. Mnangagwa urged the opposition to seek redress in court, asserting the validity of the vote and cautioning against spreading chaos, with a warning of crackdowns.
According to the preliminary report by the SADC observer mission, the election failed to meet both regional and international standards. Additionally, the EU observer mission described the polls as taking place in a “climate of fear.” The government faced criticism for arresting more than 40 activists from civic society organizations and allegations of widespread voter intimidation in rural areas. While the voting process itself was peaceful, significant delays in the distribution of ballot papers marred the polling, leading to accusations of voter suppression by the opposition.
After years of isolation, Zimbabwe, under Mnangagwa’s leadership, has aimed to rebuild relationships with Western partners. However, his second term begins amidst ongoing economic difficulties, including an 80% devaluation of the Zim dollar this year and frozen international funding. Without foreign assistance, Zimbabwe’s economic struggles are likely to persist, leaving millions uncertain about their future.

Grace Mugabe And Some G40 Members Attend President Mnangagwa's Inauguration

The hearing of Saviour Kasukuwere’s application for direct access to the Constitutional Court, challenging his disqualification from the presidential race in Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections, has been set for August 8, 2023. Justice Paddington Garwe made the decision after a case management meeting on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Kasukuwere’s lawyer, Jaqueline Sande, announced that submissions and arguments are due by August 5, 2023. She said:

President @Hon_Kasukuwere ’s application for direct access to the constitutional court shall be heard on an urgent basis on Tuesday the 8th of August 2023 at 9:30 All submissions and heads of arguments to be filed by the 5th of August 2023 The fight for democracy is still on!

Kasukuwere, a former Local Government minister in Robert Mugabe’s government, approached the Constitutional Court in Harare after being disqualified from the race. The Supreme Court had upheld an earlier High Court ruling that Kasukuwere is no longer a registered voter, having been out of the country for at least 18 consecutive months.
Kasukuwere, a former ally of former First Lady Grace Mugabe and allegedly one of the G-40 kingpins, was forced out of Zimbabwe by the November 2017 coup that removed Mugabe from power. His disqualification was triggered by a challenge to his nomination as a candidate by ZANU PF activist Lovedale Mangwana.

Kasukuwere's Hearing On Disqualification From Presidential Race Set For August 8, 2023

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission/">Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)</a> has announced that a senior officer in the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) has been convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for extortion.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZACC said Patrick Badza, the convicted officer, demanded a payment of USD9,900 from a Chinese investor who sought work permits for his workers. Badza threatened to deny the permits if the payment was not made.
The ZACC investigated the matter and arrested Badza, who subsequently faced trial and was found guilty.
The issue of extortion in Zimbabwe remains a persistent problem, as evidenced by recent reports of corruption involving law enforcement officials. In April 2022, three officers from different security agencies were arrested and charged with soliciting a bribe at the Beitbridge border post. The accused individuals, who were part of a joint operation against smuggling and illegal border crossings, allegedly demanded a bribe of R6,500 from a motorist travelling from South Africa. The victim paid the bribe and subsequently reported the incident to a relative who then filed a complaint with the Beitbridge Customs and Excise Regional Manager. The matter was then reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the three officers who were subsequently charged with criminal abuse of office. The magistrate remanded them in custody after the prosecutor successfully opposed bail. 
In 2019, the Zimbabwe Morning Post reported that some retired ministers from the ruling party ZANU-PF, who were employed at the party’s headquarters, had taken over the mandate of the Zimbabwe Investment Authority (ZIA) to promote and facilitate foreign and local investment. According to the publication, investors were directed to the ZANU-PF headquarters to discuss their business interests before going to the ZIA. The report suggested that these <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2019/06/10/zanu-pf-heavyweights-scaring-investors-by-demanding-huge-bribes/">ZANU-PF officials were demanding large kickbacks from investors as facilitation fees.</a> This situation raised concerns about the credibility of the ZIA and the country’s investment climate.
These reports emerged after Zimbabwe lost a billion-dollar investment from Dangote in 2015 due to demands for kickbacks from former first lady Grace Mugabe’s team.
Recently, President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa/">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> acknowledged the presence of and expressed concern about the corruption and bureaucracy that is scaring away investors. He called for an end to the practice of moving investors from office to office and person to person, which often leads to disappointment and frustration.

In the documentary, Chidodo claimed that Mugabe had used her influential status to smuggle diamonds and ivory out of Zimbabwe without her late husband’s knowledge. Watch: Chidodo Apologises To Mugabe Family Over Comments In Gold Mafia

Cleopas Chidodo, the security manager of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), has retracted the allegations he made about former First Lady Grace Mugabe in Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia documentary.
In the documentary, Chidodo claimed that Mugabe had used her influential status to smuggle diamonds and ivory out of Zimbabwe without her late husband’s knowledge. However, in a video recording, Chidodo apologised to Mugabe and the former first family, stating that the allegations he made were false and retracting them in full. He said:

I wish to render my unconditional apologies to Dr Grace Mugabe and the entire former first family for the falsehoods I mentioned about them in the said episode…
I wish the general public to know that it is untrue that Dr Grace Mugabe did the various illegal things that I mentioned in the video. Specifically, it is untrue that Dr Grace Mugabe killed elephants for ivory. It is untrue that Dr Grace Mugabe smuggled said ivory in hoards of containers through Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. It is untrue that Dr Grace Mugabe would send a plane to Chiadzwa mining fields to collect diamonds and smuggle them outside of Zimbabwe. It is untrue that Dr Grace Mugabe devised a scheme to smuggle minerals and ivory behind the late former President Robert Mugabe’s back. It is untrue that the former first family made a lot of money smuggling minerals outside the country,” he added.

Chidodo said he was tricked by the Al Jazeera news network into making false allegations against Grace Mugabe. He claimed that the individuals who secretly recorded him had lied and initially approached him with an offer of scholarships for his family, but then changed the subject to smuggling minerals out of Zimbabwe. Chidodo also alleged that he was drugged during the recording, which affected his mental state and made him say things he did not remember saying.
Chidodo’s assets, along with those of three other Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe officials, were frozen last month as investigations into their alleged involvement in a gold smuggling scam continue. The government has requested evidence from Al Jazeera regarding the allegations of gold smuggling and money laundering, after President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his wife were implicated in the documentary. Uebert Angel, Mnangagwa’s ambassador-at-large, was also featured in the documentary revealing information and naming prominent individuals.

Al Jazeera Gold Mafia: Chidodo Retracts Allegations Against Grace Mugabe

Simba Chikore has told the courts that he is willing to cover his children’s healthcare, education, clothing and food if the divorce with Bona Mugabe goes through. The duo got married in terms of Zimbabwean laws in March 2014. Bona, the daughter of the late former President Robert Mugabe, filed for divorce last month saying their relationship had been irretrievably broken. Simba believes the marriage can still be salvaged but if the divorce goes through, he wants joint custody of the children. In his court papers, Simba said:

 WHEREFORE Plaintiff prays that in the event of decree for divorce being granted that it be granted with the following ancillary relief:
Plaintiff and Defendant are and hereby granted joint custody of the minor children, and in exercising the joint custody, Defendant shall have children during school days while Plaintiff has children during all weekends and holidays or vice-versa.
In the alternative, the Plaintiff is and hereby granted access during weekends and holidays as follows:
For weekends Plaintiff shall have children every weekend starting from 08:00 hours Saturday and returning children Sunday at 18:00 hours to Defendant.
For school holidays, Plaintiff shall have children from the closing date to the end of the third week of the holidays.
For the minor child Mireya Minana Chikore Born 25.” November 2021, until she is of creche-going age, Plaintiff shall see her every weekend and holiday during the daytime and return her to the mother on or before 18:00
The Plaintiff is and hereby ordered to maintain the children as follows: 
Plaintiff shall pay for the children’s medical aid in full.
Plaintiff shall pay for children’s school fees in full.
Plaintiff shall meet all clothing requirements for the children.
Plaintiff shall meet all food requirements for the children.

Simba also requested equal sharing of property acquired or received through donations and or inheritance, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/05/03/full-list-properties-simba-chikore-is-demanding-from-bona-mugabe/">properties worth millions</a> of dollars. Simba Asks To Cover Children's Healthcare, Education, Clothing, Food Post Bona Mugabe Divorce

The former first lady, Grace Mugabe, allegedly used her position to smuggle diamonds and ivory out of the country without her husband’s knowledge and her luggage was not subject to search.
Grace was the wife of the late former President Robert Mugabe who died in 2019, almost two years after he was deposed in a military coup.
The alleged smuggling of diamonds and ivory by Grace was revealed in the final episode of the Gold Mafia Al Jazeera documentary titled “Have The King With You” released on Friday, 14 April.
Speaking to the undercover journalists who posed as Chinese gangsters who wanted to wash dirty money, Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) manager Cleopas Chidodo alleged that Grace made a lot of money through smuggling.
He claimed that planes would be sent to diamond mines where the finest diamonds would be handpicked and flown to Dubai via Harare International Airport.
Chidodo further alleged that poachers would be sent to kill elephants and the ivory would be flown out of the country as cargo. Said Chidodo:

She wanted to take things out and Mugabe did not know.
They would go out there and kill elephants and stuff like that. Poachers would then prepare the ivory.
It would come to the airport as cargo in big containers, if the ivory comes and the supervisor asks, they will just say it is for the first family and no one will ask further.
The plane goes to diamond mines and they select some nice diamonds to put in the plane.
The plane will come from the diamond mine and go straight to Dubai, no papers, no what.
They were making money, they made a lot of money.

The Gold Mafia documentary exposed an alleged series of gold smuggling gangs in Southern Africa that help criminals launder hundreds of millions of dollars.
The gang members get rich while plundering their nations and keeping millions in abject poverty.
They use gold to turn dirty cash into clean, seemingly legitimate money for those with large amounts of unaccounted wealth.
The criminals do so by using a complex web of companies, counterfeit identities and fake documents.

Gold Mafia: Grace Mugabe Accused Of Smuggling Diamonds And Ivory

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa was on Wednesday conferred with an honorary doctorate by the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU).
Mnangagwa’s degree was received by Women’s Affairs Minister Sithembiso Nyoni in her absence.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa presented the doctorate at ZOU’s colourful Wednesday graduation.
According to the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the honorary doctorate is a reward for Mnangagwa’s “hard work” n improving lives of the country’s disadvantaged communities. The Ministry said:
First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa has been conferred an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in Development Studies by ZOU in honour of her efforts to improve the standard of living in disadvantaged communities through philanthropic work.
The accolade for her excellency Amai Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa was received on her behalf by Nyoni, Minister of Women Affairs as she is out of the country on other duties.
The former first lady, Grace Mugabe, also received a doctorate from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) in 2014.
However, the conferment of a PhD on Grace resulted in the criminal prosecution of the institution’s Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura for criminal abuse of office.

Auxillia Mnangagwa Gets PhD Degree From Zimbabwe Open University

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and former first lady Grace Mugabe met face to face in Kinshasa, DRC during the 42nd Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit where the founders of the organisation were honoured for the role they played in its formation.
The Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), the forerunner of SADC, was a memorandum of understanding on common economic development signed in Lusaka, Zambia, on 1 April 1980.
All the founding fathers of the regional bloc are now late. These were:

Mnangagwa, Grace Mugabe Meet In DRC As SADC Honours Its Founders

Exiled former Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Professor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a>, has accused the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> of creating a “fake” poster to “impact public opinion.”
Moyo and the opposition party have been at loggerheads recently after he advised the latter to establish structures and come up with a constitution.
The Political Science Professor even suggested that parties without a constitution must not be allowed to contest any election.  
The poster which Moyo is distancing himself from suggested that he was running for ZANU PF’s presidential office and would represent the party in the 2023 elections.
In response, Moyo said the move was unacceptable and possibly criminal. He said:

Surely we can differ on issues without resorting to dirty tactics? This unfair #CCC poster – which impersonates me to subliminally impact public opinion – is completely unacceptable, and possibly criminal. It is outside the bounds of common decency and God is certainly not in it!

Moyo left the country in 2017 following the ouster of then-President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe.</a>
Back then, some accused him of harbouring ambitions of becoming the president. They said he was using former first lady, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Grace_Mugabe">Grace Mugabe</a> to position him to succeed Mugabe.
He was allegedly one of the leaders of a relinquished ZANU PF faction, Generation 40 (G40).

Prof Jonathan Moyo Accuses CCC Of Creating "Fake" President Moyo Poster

The children of the late <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>, a former president of Zimbabwe, have withdrawn a High Court appeal against a court ruling which barred them from contesting the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/02/cio-operation-in-motion-to-exhume-rebury-mugabe-mawarire/">exhumation of their father’s remains.</a>
Mugabe’s three children <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bona_Mugabe">Bona Mugabe-Mutsahuni</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe_Junior">Tinotenda (Robert Jnr)</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chatunga_Mugabe">Bellarmine Chatunga</a> are challenging the traditional court ruling by Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Mhondoro which ordered the exhumation of their late father and confiscation of their livestock.
Chief Zvimba ruled that Mugabe’s remains should be exhumed from their rural home in Zvimba for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre.
Prior to the appeal, Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo had ruled that Mugabe’s children had no right to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Grace_Mugabe">Grace</a>.
The High Court judges of appeal in May <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/exhumation-and-reburial-of-mugabe-bona-tinotenda-bellarmine-win-case/">ruled in favour of Mugabe’s children</a>, who were challenging the exhumation of their father.
Since the magistrate’s ruling in May was already set aside on review, there was apparently nothing to deal with on appeal, hence the High Court on Thursday allowed the withdrawal of the appeal with no order of costs.
Mugabe succumbed to a long illness on September 6, 2019, in Singapore. He was 95. He was buried in Kutama, Zvimba, which is his rural home on September 28, 2019, after weeks of wrangling over his final resting place.

Exhumation Of Mugabe's Remains: Children Withdraw Appeal

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s ex-husband Stanley Goreraza has died.
Goreraza succumbed to cancer, according to a notice shared at a flat he used to own in the Avenues area in Harare, reported The Standard. Reads the notice:

Good morning. I hope I find you all well! It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Stanley Goreraza.
He passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer and stroke. May his dear soul rest in peace.
</blockquote>
Goreraza is a former officer in the Air Force of Zimbabwe and defence attache at the Zimbabwean embassy in China.
He divorced Grace in 1996. The couple had one child, a son, Russell Goreraza.

Grace Mugabe's Ex-husband, Stanley Goreraza, Dies

The Government has reportedly abandoned plans to exhume the late former President Robert Mugabe’s remains from Zvimba for reburial in a mausoleum at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
NewsDay reported a top Government official as saying work on the construction of a mausoleum where Mugabe’s remains were supposed to be reburied has been halted. Said the source:

The mausoleum project has since been dumped, that is the news that we have so far.

As the construction of the mausoleum continued in 2021, Mugabe’s family was taken to court by a Zvimba traditional leader who ruled that his remains be exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre.
Mugabe’s widow, Grace, was fined five cows and two goats for improperly burying her husband by Chief Zvimba (born Stanley Mhondoro) in May last year.
Mugabe’s children, however, challenged Chief Zvimba’s ruling, arguing that he acted outside his jurisdiction.
Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo told NewsDay that the construction of the mausoleum was a Mugabe family issue. Said Moyo:

Mugabe family spokesperson Leo Mugabe said that nothing has changed pertaining to the burial of Mugabe.
Mugabe was buried in a heavily fortified grave in the courtyard of his rural home village of Kutama, about 90km west of the capital Harare amid claims that some of his erstwhile colleagues in ZANU PF could use his corpse for ritual purposes.

Construction Of Mugabe Mausoleum Shelved | Report

Former first lady Grace Mugabe is reported to be worried over her son Robert Mugabe Jnr’s newfound associations in ZANU PF.
Robert Jnr graced the ZANU PF Chitungwiza rally two weeks ago in the company of self-proclaimed prophet Passion Java and other socialites.
Mugabe even shook hands with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and posed for a photo with the president’s son, Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr.
Grace is worried that Robert could get sucked into deadly ZANU PF fights given how his late father lost his position as party leader and Head of State.
The NewsHawks reported a family source as saying Grace is not happy with Robert Jr’s links with Java. Said the source:

Grace Mugabe Worried Over Robert Jr, Passion Java Links

Former first lady Grace Mugabe is set to pocket a substantial amount from the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) after the examinations body hired her elite private school to accommodate examiners marking the 2022 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.
ZIMSEC has another deal with the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa (ZAOGA)-owned Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) in Bindura.
Traditionally, ZIMSEC uses publicly funded educational institutions, such as the Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) which it shunned in favour of ZEGU.
Speaking in an interview with New Zimbabwe on Monday, ZIMSEC public relations manager, Nicky Dhlamini Moyo confirmed the developments but said there was nothing wrong with the deals. She said:

We occasionally use private Universities and entities that offer requisite facilities. It would be good to note that in Mashonaland Central marking was at ZEGU, a private church-owned university and at Amai Mugabe school.
Our criteria for venue selection is uniform for all institutions. We do not isolate institutions based on them being private or state-owned.
As an examinations council, we look for availability, facilities, and affordability amongst other imperative things.

Grace Mugabe Strikes Lucrative Deal With ZIMSEC

Former first lady, Grace Mugabe has insisted that she buried her husband, Robert Mugabe, according to his wishes and instructions.
She made the remarks while speaking at the burial of Sarah Mahoka who died in a car accident last week following a head-on collision.
This comes after a Zvimba traditional court last year ruled that Grace violated cultural and traditional rites by burying Mugabe at his homestead in Zvimba.
Grace did not attend the court and Chief Zvimba found her guilty of the charges and ordered her to pay a fine of 5 cows and a goat.
The traditional leader, born Stanley Mhondoro, also ordered that former President Robert Mugabe’s body should be exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre in the capital. Zim Morning Post quotes Grace as saying:

I buried my husband according to the instructions he left me, those who want to exhume him, go ahead, we are watching.
It’s a ruling against a widow, and the widow has nothing to do with the burying of her husband … This judgment is irrelevant if you were to ask me because in any case, Chief Zvimba does not preside over cases here.
They obviously need a court order in order to exercise the judgment, in which case we will oppose that court order in the courts, and they must be rest assured the road that they have taken is the wrong route.

Leo also insisted that Chief Zvimba was the one who had violated cultural and traditional norms as the case should have gone to the kraal head first. He added:

Patrick Zhuwao, one of Mugabe’s nephews, previously claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was behind the push to have Mugabe’s remains exhumed saying he wants a mystical sceptre he was allegedly buried with.

Grace Speaks On Exhumation Of Mugabe's Remains

Zimbabwe’s former First Lady, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Grace_Mugabe">Grace Mugabe</a>, who has rarely been seen in public for some time has been spotted attending the funeral of her close ally <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sarah_Mahoka">Sarah Mahoka.</a>
Mahoka, a former ZANU PF Women’s League national treasurer and former Hurungwe East legislator <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/former-zanu-pf-womens-league-national-treasurer-sarah-mahoka-has-died/">died in a traffic accident last week Thursday evening at Buffalo Downs</a>, just under 3km from her farm.
Stanley Gama took to his Twitter page and wrote:

It is understood that she was involved in a head-on collision with a haulage truck that encroached onto her lane.
Sources say Mahoka was travelling towards Karoi while the haulage truck was facing Harare.
Mahoka was recalled from Parliament by ZANU PF in 2017. She contested in July 2018 elections as part of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Patriotic_Front" title="National Patriotic Front">National Patriotic Front</a> party but lost to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ngoni_Masenda" title="Ngoni Masenda">Ngoni Masenda</a>
Norton legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa">Temba Mliswa</a> said he was sad to hear that Mahoka had passed away. Mliswa bemoaned how she won’t be recognised for all her hard work. He said Mahoka deserved a Provincial Hero status for her work.

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe Attends Sarah Mahoka's Funeral

Former first lady Grace Mugabe has challenged a court order to exhume her late husband Robert Mugabe’s remains for reburial at the National Heroes Acre, court papers showed Monday.
Zimbabwe’s longtime former ruler was buried in his rural home village of Kutama, Zvimba, about 90km west of the capital Harare, in September 2019 after weeks of wrangling over his final resting place.
His family had opposed the government’s plans to bury him at the National Heroes’ Acre in Harare, where it had started constructing a special mausoleum for him.
But in May, Chief Zvimba, a traditional leader, fined Grace Mugabe five cows and two goats for improperly burying Mugabe and ordered his exhumation and reburial in Harare.
Mugabe’s children then appealed the chief’s directive – but a magistrate court last month confirmed that order, saying the ex-president’s children had no legal authority to challenge the exhumation of their father.
That prompted Grace Mugabe to take over the legal battle.
Papers on Monday showed that the widow, in an appeal to the High Court, said the magistrate’s order upholding the directive of the traditional chief was “grossly irregular and unreasonable”.
Mugabe died in a Singapore hospital on 6 September 2019, aged 95.
He had been overthrown in a military coup in November 2017 which ended his autocratic 37-year rule.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government wanted him to be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre, which is set aside for heroes of the liberation struggle against colonial rule.
But Mugabe’s family said that before his death, he had told them he did not want to be buried at the shrine.

Grace Mugabe Challenges Court Order To Exhume Husband's Body

A land dispute between Mashonaland Central Provincial Minister Monica Mavhunga and the former First Lady, Grace Mugabe’s sister, Rosemary Chidhakwa has escalated after the minister counter-sued Chidhakwa at the High Court.
Chidhakwa was the first to approach the courts recently accusing Mavhunga, and her workers of invading her farm and disrupting winter wheat cropping currently underway.
Grace Mugabe’s sister complained over the minister’s actions which she viewed as unlawful saying there was a court order issued this year barring Mavhunga from illegally occupying the farm.
In her counter application, minister Mavhunga told the court that in November 2020, the Lands Ministry offered her subdivision of the same piece of land – Subdivision 1 Farm 25 of Glendale, Mazowe, Mashonaland Central. Mavhunga wrote:
<blockquote>The defendant has failed, refused, and or neglected to vacate the said premises in order to give plaintiff vacant possession of subdivision 2.</blockquote>
The minister is demanding an order ejecting Grace Mugabe’s sister and her employees from the land as she was granted rights over the subdivision before she was given an offer letter.
On the other hand, Chidhakwa claims Mavhunga invaded her land and occupied the main farmhouse after evicting her manager who lived there.
In her court papers, Chidhakwa said Lands Minister Anxious Masuka gave orders to officials from the Lands Ministry to order Chidhakwa’s manager to vacate the farm within three days. Read the court papers:

Chidhakwa said she will suffer financial loss if Mavhunga was not removed immediately from the farm as she had a winter crop under irrigation.
The full hearing of the matter is pending.
A handful of prominent people who were allocated land during the reign of former President Robert Mugabe lost land when President Mnangagwa came to power and some believe it’s revenge for opposing his bid to rise to power at the height of factional wars in ZANU PF.

Land Dispute Between Grace Mugabe's Sister And Minister Escalates

Constitutional law expert Professor Lovemore Madhuku said an order for the exhumation and reburial of former President Robert Mugabe issued by a traditional chief this week is “outrageous” and “defies common sense and logic”.
Prof Madhuku said Chief Zvimba, real name Stanley Mhondoro, has no legal authority to order the exhumation of bodies, let alone decide where they are buried well outside his area of control. He said:
<blockquote>It clearly appears that the traditional court has gone outside its jurisdiction, for example, the whole point of exhuming a body is not governed by customary law in Zimbabwe.
If you want to exhume any body in any part of the country, you don’t go to a customary law court.
A customary community court in this case does not have the power to order what appears to have been ordered.
The furthest they can go is to try and say whether or not Grace Mugabe would have done something wrong here, but not to the extent of making an exhumation order, so that is a reviewable ground, you can take that court to a higher court and say that it went outside its jurisdiction.</blockquote>
Prof Madhuku said he was convinced that Chief Zvimba’s ruling “would not stand scrutiny in any superior court because it strikes me as extremely outrageous in its defiance of common sense or logic.”
Chief Zvimba’s court sat on 20 May, and its judgement was delivered to the Mugabe rural home in Kutama where his family buried him in line with his wishes.
The traditional court fined Mugabe’s widow, Grace, five cows and a goat, for violating cultural norms in burying the former president.
Chief Zvimba also gave Mugabe’s widow – who has been in Singapore for a year and who did not attend the hearing – up to 1 July to ensure Mugabe is reburied at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
Meanwhile, Mugabe’s family and the former president’s supporters charge that Chief Zvimba is in fact fronting for President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao accused Mnangagwa of being the invisible force orchestrating the exhumation bid.
He said Mnangagwa believes that Mugabe was buried with a mystic sceptre that would give him commanding authority as a leader of Zimbabwe.

Former First Lady, Grace Mugabe has been summoned to Chief Zvimba’s traditional court over an “improper” burial of her late husband, former president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> who is said must be reburied.
One Tinos Manongovere who issued the summons wants Robert Mugabe exhumed and reburied “properly” as per the Zvimba people’s traditions and according to the wishes of Robert Mugabe’s late mother. Read the summons:

"Robert Mugabe Must Be Reburied," Grace Summoned To Court

An associate of Russel Goreraza, the son of former first lady, Grace Mugabe, manhandled a journalist with The Herald and grabbed her phone outside the Bindura Magistrates Court <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/12/grace-mugabes-son-arrested-over-theft/">where they appeared facing theft charges.</a>
The journalist, Fungai Lupande, was taking pictures of Goreraza and his co-accused, Paul Sithole (45), Aaron Muchenje (31) and Trymore Madzitire (36), who were leaving the court after their hearing.
Grace Mugabe’s son is facing theft charges after he allegedly ordered the removal of a gold processing plant worth US$130 000 at Tian Bao Mineral Industry in Mazowe. The farm is owned by the former First Family.
Goreraza and his co-accused are on $20 000 bail. The four appeared before Bindura magistrate Mr Tinashe Ndokera, who remanded them to May 19 for a trial date. 
Journalist Lupande said as the quartet left court, she started taking pictures and a man who is not part of the accused, charged towards her and grabbed her hand before grabbing her cell phone. She said:

He ordered me to delete the picture, before scrolling my cellphone which was not locked. After failing to locate the pictures, he threatened to slam the cellphone onto the ground or delete all the information.
Attempts to get back the cell phone were fruitless as he went into his vehicle with it and threatened to leave. I then approached the lawyer who was representing Goreraza and his co-accused, and he demanded to see my media accreditation card.
Upon producing the document, he intermediated between me and the man. 
The lawyer, whose name I didn’t manage to get, asked me to delete the pictures because the man who was ‘aggressive’ was not part of the case.

Lupande said she turned down the request and as the man handed back the cell phone, he said:

Now I know who you are, if these pictures are published you will see what I can do to you. I don’t hesitate.
</blockquote>
She then lodged a report at Bindura police station.

Grace Mugabe's Son In Court For Theft: Journalist Manhandled

A senior official in the Department of Sociology at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has said former first lady Grace Mugabe never enrolled for a PhD degree at the institution.
The official, Dr Watch Ruparanganda, who is a witness in the trial of suspended UZ Vice Chancellor Levy Nyagura, told a Harare court that as a chair of the Department Grace was allegedly in, he should have been informed of Grace’s enrolment for a PhD.
Dr Ruparanganda expressed discontent over the manner Grace was awarded the degree as the ‘student’ was unknown to staffers. He said:

Dr Ruparanganda claimed that Professor Nyagura chose his unqualified friend to supervise Mrs Mugabe who he described as a ghost student.
Professor Nyagura maintains the PhD is genuine.

Grace Mugabe Just Appeared From Nowhere - UZ Official

Grace Mugabe’s son, Russell Goreraza, has been arrested for alleged theft of mine equipment after three alleged thieves implicated him in the theft.
Russel appeared before the courts Monday facing theft charges.
The state alleges that the former first lady’s son from her first marriage was arrested after police intercepted a truck carrying mining equipment on April 10.
The three occupants of the truck, Paul Sithole, 45, Aaron Muchenje, 31, and Trymore Madzitire, 36, allegedly implicated Goreraza leading to his arrest.
The prosecution alleges that Goreraza sent Muchenje, Madzitire and Sithole to a mining site where Tian Bao Mineral Industry (Pvt) Ltd is carrying out mining activities with orders to “dismantle the processing plant”.
The mining site is inside Smithfield Farm owned by the family of the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe.
The state further alleges that when the trio arrived at the mine shortly before 7 AM, they “loaded a gold smelter, ball mill, electric motor, 200 ball mill metal balls, 50 ball mill liners, 20 slay pumps, and 15 angle iron bars into a Mercedes Benz truck using a crane.”
According to prepared charges, Muchenje and Sithole, both of Borrowdale Brooke in Harare, and Madzitire of Honde Valley, “were intercepted by Mazowe police… and they implicated Goreraza.”
The value of the “stolen” equipment was US$130,000, says the National Prosecuting Authority.
The four men, including Grace Mugabe’s son, were not asked to plead.
Prince Danda, described as the managing director of Tian Bao Mineral Industry, is the complainant.
In 2019, the government issued a memorandum inviting miners to show interest in mining activities on 10 farms in the Mashonaland Central province, including Foyle and <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/03/full-text-govt-invites-miners-to-repossess-mugabe-farms/">Smithfield owned by the former First Family, the Mugabes.</a>
The Mugabes have since the demise of the veteran leader been fighting against losing land. They even lost a number of lawsuits.

Grace Mugabe's Son Arrested Over Theft

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s elite schools and orphanage located in Mazowe, about 40km from Harare were reportedly rocked by a child sexual abuse scandal that was swept under the carpet.
Investigations conducted by Zimbabwe Independent revealed the scandal at Grace Mugabe Orphanage and Amai Mugabe Junior and High schools after 10 children were allegedly caught up in the impropriety from late 2018 to 2019.
The abuse, which allegedly occurred when school pupils in the boarding school were using the same facilities as the 94 orphans adopted by the former first lady, was reported to Amai Mugabe in 2019, but it was kept a secret.
The scandal came to the surface after four children sustained injuries related to the sexual abuse and were rushed to Concession Hospital.
Zimbabwe Independent reported medical personnel at the hospital as saying such cases were handled at the institution.
Orphanage resident pastor Miriam Chigiga, however, denied there was once a sexual abuse scandal at the orphanage and school. She said:
<blockquote>These children have responsible caregivers who are widows and single mothers who always keep an eye on them. There is no way the children can be involved in such abuse cases because we teach them Godly ways. We don’t tolerate that; we are an openly Christian school.</blockquote>
Sources told Zimbabwe Independent that they had evidence to prove that the abuse indeed happened and that Mugabe’s married daughter, Bona Mugabe-Chikore is aware of the scandal. The source is quoted as saying:
<blockquote>If they (school authorities) deny that there was such a case then we can surely produce the names of the children who were involved. Grace was informed about the issue; Bona Mugabe-Chikore is also aware of it. Evidence is available to that effect.</blockquote>
The publication also established that Grace Mugabe is keeping children at the Mazowe orphanage far above the stipulated 70 granted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.

Grace Mugabe Orphanage Rocked By Sodomy Scandal - Report

Villagers, illegal gold panners (makozokoza), and workers employed at former President Robert Mugabe’s Gushungo Dairy farm in Mazowe are reportedly slaughtering cattle belonging to the late leader’s family. The NewsHawks report.
According to the publication, the villagers and workers have slaughtered over 1400 beasts mainly for meat and this has drastically reduced the leader’s herd to about 600 from 2000.
A source privy to the developments said the perpetrators were mainly former workers who are still owed money by the Mugabe family who are feasting on the beasts:
<blockquote>If not stopped, the business will suffer greatly because there have been no efforts to replenish the depleted herd. Former workers are culpable for hunting the cattle at night and slaughtering them for beef. The situation has now gone out of hand,” a source said.
It’s also sad that some artisanal gold miners have also invaded the farm and, when one asks them to leave, they start singing Kutonga Kwaro.
The recent incidents at the farm are not just an act of mischief, but it seems some former employees always had a bone to chew with the former first family; they were waiting for the opportune time</blockquote>
The family of the late president is reportedly feeling besieged and agonizing over how to deal with the stock theft, During the peak of Mugabe’s reign, his wife Grace Mugabe boasted of having a state of the art dairy that was the second-largest dairy in Southern Africa.

Makorokoza, Villagers & Workers Feast On Mugabe's 1400+ Cattle

Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi has fumed over alleged “delay tactics” being employed by former University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor Professor Levi Nyagura and his defence team.
Nyagura is facing charges of criminal abuse of office after he illegally awarded former First Lady Mrs Grace Mugabe a doctorate in 2014.
The matter was set for trial this Tuesday but Nyagura indicated that he had sought the services of a new lawyer-Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara who was represented by Advocate Tafadzwa Mapuranga who indicated that the former was engaged at the High Court.
He sought for a postponement of the matter on the basis that Adv Zhuwarara who was needed time to go through the record for him to prepare for trial.
The postponement did not go down well with both the magistrate and the prosecution which accused Nyagura and his defence team of playing games with the court. Mutevedzi said:
<blockquote>This matter has been pending since 2018 and the accused person should have instructed a lawyer of his choice long time back. Why did he instruct him on Friday? Who was holding him back? I have been very tolerant with this matter. We cannot continue to be told that the matter can’t proceed to trial every time it’s set down for trial. We cannot do what suits the defence always. You cannot just wake up and impose trial dates of your choice. I want Adv Zhuwarara to come to court and answer certain questions.</blockquote>
Mr Mutevedzi postponed the matter to the second week of January next year and it is expected to run for five days.
The case has been pending since 2018 and Nyagura has changed lawyers in between and unsuccessfully made a number of applications prompting a delay in trial commencement.
Some say Nyagura is blameless as he was arm-twisted by the powerful first family while some say he could have resigned in protest.

Magistrate Fumes Over Nyagura's Delaying Tactics

Former University of Zimbabwe (UZ) vice-chancellor Levi Nyagura will be in court on November 24 for the commencement of his trial on charges of unprocedurally conferring former First Lady Grace Mugabe with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD).
Nyagura consented to the commencement of trial and the State has handed over all the necessary documents to Nyagura’s lawyers, prosecutor Michael Chakandida said on Monday.
Nyagura had approached the High Court for review after magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi dismissed his application for exception to the charge.
Nyagura is accused of abusing his position by showing favour to Grace who did not meet the minimum requirements to study for the degree.
It is alleged Nyagura’s action had the negative effect of compromising the standards of the country’s education system.

Trial Date Set For Former UZ Vice-chancellor Nyagura

The Zimbabwean government has once again engaged South Africa in a bid to repatriate exiled former cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere.
The former Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister faces four counts of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.
The National Prosecuting Authority has since prepared indictment papers and the former ZANU PF political commissar will be tried as soon as he is brought home. Mr Nelson Mutsonziwa, in an affidavit commissioned by chief law officer Mr Chris Mutangadura said:
<blockquote>This request is not being pursued for political reasons or any ulterior purpose. Zimbabwe guarantees that Saviour Kasukuwere will receive a fair trial in terms of the laws of Zimbabwe. The Republic of Zimbabwe also undertakes to render assistance to the Republic of South Africa in any criminal matter,</blockquote>
It is alleged that during his tenure as the local government minister, Kasukuwere corruptly parcelled out over 220 hectares of land in Harare and Masvingo to the sister of former First Lady Grace Mugabe, Shuvai Gumbochuma.
He did so at the expense of eight entities who had been awarded the land by his predecessor Ignatious Chombo.
He is also being accused of having corruptly awarded a tender to a company called Brainworks Capital when he was still the Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment.
Last year, the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol)<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/08/22/interpol-rejects-govts-request-to-arrest-kasukuwere-report/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> rejected Zimbabwe’s request to extradite Kasukuwere</a> on grounds that the case would have implications on the organosation’s neutrality.
Kasukuwere and some view the charges against him as politically motivated.

Zimbabwe In New Bid To Repatriate Kasukuwere

The former first lady Grace Mugabe is seen in the following video advocating for teachers to be adequately paid. In the video, Mugabe is heard saying teachers should be paid handsomely until everyone desires to be a teacher.
The video started circulating this week as teachers have launched a nationwide strike citing incapacitation and they are demanding a salary equivalent to $520. The government has said they cannot match their demand for now.
