The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) has issued Circular 18 of 2023, which allows Grade 7 students to leave school after completing their ZIMSEC exams. The circular which cancels Circular 17 of 2023, also allows planned and budgeted school trips to proceed as planned.
The circular seen by Pindula News was addressed to various education authorities and organizations, including Chief Directors, Provincial Education Directors, Teachers’ Organizations, and others involved in the education sector. It read:

RE: CANCELLATION OF SECRETARY’S CIRCULAR NUMBER 17 OF 2023 ON COMPULSORY ORGANISED LEARNING FOR PREPARING GRADE 7 PUPILS FOR THE PRIMARY TO SECONDARY TRANSITION
This Circular cancels Circular Number 17 of 2023 on compulsory organised learning activities post-Grade 7 examinations. The cancellation, therefore, means that Grade 7 pupils must be allowed to close school. Those schools that had planned and budgeted for educational school trips should proceed as such in conformity with Circular P.54.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has reversed a directive that required Grade Seven students to stay in school after their exams. The directive stated that the students were supposed to attend classes until the end of the school term. Authorities said this decision was made to address concerns about students having excessive free time, which could lead to issues like drug abuse and teenage pregnancies. The ministry said it aims to provide a structured learning environment and prevent negative behaviours during the post-exam period.

Grade 7 Learners Now Allowed To Leave School After Exams - Ministry

An 11-year-old boy from Masvingo, who was doing Grade 6 at Victoria Primary School scored nine units in the 2022 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Grade 7 final examinations.
This means that Noah Junior Marima will skip Grade 7 and automatically proceed to secondary school next year.
The boy’s father, Noah Marima, owns the state-of-the-art Junior Primary and Junior High boarding schools in Rhodene, a low-density suburb.
Noah Junior scored ones in Maths, Shona, Social Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, and Tech.
He got two units in English while in Physical Education and Arts he got 3 units.
Marima expressed satisfaction over his son’s performance and pledged to support him to be whatever he wants. He said:

I am elated with the achievement and as his father I don’t want to decide for him what he wants to do, I will allow him to choose his passion and my role will be to support him to chase his dreams.

The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has released the 2022 Grade 7 examinations results. To access the results, all you need to do is this:
Option A – Via the ZIMSEC website:
1. Visit the ZIMSEC website at <a href="https://www.zimsec.co.zw/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">www.zimsec.co.zw</a> and you will be taken to the home page.
2. Click on “View Results” and you will be taken to a page that shows all the country’s 10 regions [R1-Harare, R2-Manicaland, R3-Mashonaland East, R4-Matabeleland North, R5-Midlands, R7-Masvingo, R7-Mashonaland Central, R8-Mashonaland West, R9-Matabeleland South, R10-Bulawayo].
3. Select the region where your school is located and proceed to the instructions for registration.

<h2>Creating an account</h2>
In order to register you will need your centre number, candidate number, and date of birth to create an account.
When entering the name of the candidate start with the Surname followed by the First Name and finally the initial for the second name, if there is one. If you start with the first name followed by the surname, you may get an error message saying “candidate details not found.”
You will also need to create a username and password for your account.  Please remember these.
When you are done,  entering all the details, click “Register.”
After you have registered and created your new account, you will be redirected to the home page. 
You will need to log in using the username and password you would have entered.
After you enter the username and password, the ZIMSEC results portal will be opened.
Click on “Candidate Results” at the top and the results will be displayed.

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) is yet to establish why the Grade Seven pass rate in 2022 was lower than that recorded in 2021 considering that there were far fewer disruptions.
In 2020 and 2021, learning was disrupted by several COVID-19-induced lockdowns while in 2022, learning activities were back to normal apart from some delays during the first term.
ZIMSEC on Wednesday released the Grade 7 results, with a 40. 09 percent pass rate, marginally below the 41.13 per cent pas rate of last year.
Girls, with a 43.66 percent pass rate, did a lot better than boys who had a 3622 per cent pass rate.
Speaking in Harare on Wednesday after the announcement of the 2022 Grade Seven public examination results, ZIMSEC board chair Professor Eddie Mwenje said:

The reasons are sometimes very difficult to establish until you do a deep analysis of the results which we do normally just to advise the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education on certain aspects.
Given that this year students received much more time for learning than in the previous year, they ought to have done better.

ZIMSEC director Lazarus Nembaware said continuous assessment learning activity (CALA) could be one of the factors. He said:

It could be other reasons, which we will look into but as of now, we also think that candidates are still settling into the CALA component.
This is the second year in which CALA has been part and parcel of the examination system so it could be that and we will look into those areas more critically after the release of these results.

ZIMSEC said it recorded a higher number of candidates writing the exam than did so last year. It said:

A total of 343 169 candidates sat for the 2022 Grade Seven examinations as compared to 325 573 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2021, showing a 5.4 percent increase in candidature, that is an additional 17 596 candidates.

Grade 7 Pass Rate Falls... Girls Outperform Boys

A 13-year-old pupil at Chinotimba Primary School in Victoria Falls had to write part of her ZIMSEC Grade Seven general examinations on a hospital bed soon after giving birth last month.
The learner was heavily pregnant when she sat for her first paper before going into labour that same afternoon.
She wrote four papers at the Victoria Falls Hospital maternity ward ignoring labour pains.
The teenage mother met Thumelani Sibanda in January this year, an 18-year-old assistant builder who was working at a house next door and the two started dating.
She only discovered she was pregnant in August when her maternal aunt noticed abnormal changes in her body.
Her mother then informed the school authorities who advised that she could do extra lessons at home and only come to school to write the examinations. Said the teen mother:
<blockquote>
I was okay when I went to write my first paper on a Monday but other learners kept looking at me.
I left school going home after the exam and along the way, I started feeling pain.
When I got home I just lay down on the floor as the pain increased.
My aunt called a neighbour and they rushed me to hospital where I was taken to theatre for an operation.
I gave birth and I was so happy when I saw my baby which was 2.8kg.
</blockquote>
A room was then set up for her where teachers came to invigilate her while nurses took care of the baby.
She was admitted to the hospital between Tuesday and Friday and wrote all the week’s papers there.
Her family said they met Sibanda’s family who pleaded for their son not to be reported to the police.
In Zimbabwe, it is a criminal offence to have sexual relations with a minor.

Grade 7 Pupil Gives Birth, Writes Exam From Maternity Ward

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education says Grade Grade 7 learners should continue attending school until the end of the term for social protection.
Grade 7 learners finished writing their Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) examinations on Monday, almost two months before the end of the third term.
Ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said keeping the learners in school will prevent them from engaging in wayward behaviour. He said:
<blockquote>
The school system protects them from sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Being at school prevents them from loafing around in the townships where they end up engaging in wayward behaviour.
</blockquote>
He said Grade 7 pupils should use the period after writing examinations for educational tours as well as to learn how to transition to the secondary level. Said Ndoro:

It is the time when they would go on educational tours to places like Victoria Falls, Kariba and the like since it has thematic links to other learning areas across the curriculum.

In a memorandum dated 11 October 2022, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education instructed District Schools Inspectors to remind primary school heads that Grade 7 learners should continue to attend classes. Reads the memo:

District Schools Inspectors, kindly remind your Heads of Schools (Primary) that Grade 7 pupils are to continue to attend school as they will now be doing the Life Orientation Programme (LOP).
Request your schools to submit timetable for Life Orientation Programme, at the same time submit attendance statistics daily.

Ministry Explains Why Grade 7 Pupils Should Continue Attending Classes After Final Exams

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has ordered Grade 7 pupils to continue attending school after their final public examinations ended on Monday this week.
The Ministry has said during this period, Grade 7 pupils must go through what it calls a “Life Orientation Programme”.
According to a memo from Jameson Machimbira, the provincial education director for Harare, schools inspectors have been instructed to remind heads to keep pupils at school, to “submit timetables for the Life Orientation Programme” and also provide “time attendance statistics daily”.
However, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said teachers were never consulted. Majongwe said:

The poor teachers have no idea what they will be teaching.
… What happened to stakeholder engagement? Schools are not paddocks. This is crazy! Why invent new rules mid-flight?
Let the kids and the teachers rest. Preparations for examinations are a tough game.

Govt Orders Grade 7 Pupils To Stay At School After Exams

A Grade Seven pupil at Muvhimwa Primary School in Makoni District was injured when a classroom roof was blown off while the learners were sitting for their ZIMSEC examinations last week.
Makoni District Schools Inspector, George Chidhakwa, confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/new-roof-blown-off-during-exam/">The Manica Post</a> adding that it did not affect the examination as the invigilating teacher was collecting answer sheets from the learners. Said Chidhakwa:
<blockquote>
Some roofing sheets were blown off at Muvhimwa Primary and there are no reports of injuries to learners and staff. The examination was not disturbed.
</blockquote>
However, a source at the school said that one of the learners suffered minor injuries when asbestos sheets fell into the classroom. Said the source:
<blockquote>
Strong winds swept through our school and one classroom where the learners were sitting for a Shona paper had its roof blown off.
The asbestos sheets fell right into the classroom where the invigilator was collecting answer sheets from the candidates.
A learner was hit by debris and sustained minor injuries. The teacher managed to control the stampeding learners.

Roof Blown Off During ZIMSEC Examinations

The 2022 <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council">Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC)</a> Grade seven examinations are set to begin on Monday next week.
ZIMSEC public relations officer Nicky Dhlamini says it’s all systems go. Dhlamini told <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/all-systems-go-for-grade-7-examinations/">ZBC News</a>:

As school examinations council we have finished all the preparations. We have also distributed the papers to their respective centers and this year we expect results to be out on time.
</blockquote>
Schools which spoke to ZBC News said they were ready for the examinations.
Meanwhile, candidates who are writing Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations will begin their practicals on Monday next week, while written examinations will get underway next month.
In a related matter, President Emmerson Mnangagwa Monday told the United Nations that the government will progressively provide universal, free and compulsory basic education with effect from next year. 
He made the remarks in a virtual presentation at the High-Level Summit on Transforming Education at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.

ZIMSEC Grade 7 Examinations, O' Level Practicals Begin On Monday Next Week

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has published the timetable for the 2021 Grade 7 examinations.
The exams will start on 29 November, with students sitting for the English Paper 1 examination.
The final examination will be written on Friday 10 December 2021 when students sit for Social Science Paper 2.

ZIMSEC Releases 2021 Grade 7 Exams Timetable

The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) is yet to pay teachers who marked the 2020 Grade Seven examinations.
Marking of the examinations started soon after Christmas and ended in mid-January and the results were released early this month.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, one of the markers said they were promised ZWL$10 for Paper One and ZWL$15 for Paper Two per script.
Approximately, each person was supposed to mark about 500 scripts, including Paper One and Paper Two. The teacher was quoted as saying:
<blockquote>Before we commenced the marking of the examinations, we were promised that payment will be deposited in our accounts on the day of completion of the marking exercise.
Since we completed marking the examinations, our supervisors have been making enquiries at the ZIMSEC offices, but nobody has given us satisfactory explanations.
Some of us borrowed money to travel to marking centres, hoping that our payment will be released on time.</blockquote>
The teachers also complained of the low rates saying they sacrificed their lives at the height of the coronavirus crisis for “peanuts”.
NewZimbabwe.com’s repeated efforts to get a comment from Zimsec spokesperson Nicky Dlamini were all in vain as her mobile number went unanswered.

<blockquote>THE Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has released 2020 Grade Seven results.
Announcing the results this Friday, Zimsec Board Chairperson, Professor Eddy Mwenje said this year’s pass rate decreased by 9.79 per cent.
Professor Mwenje attributed a decrease in the pass rate to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Candidates who sat for the results will be able to collect their results from their centres starting Monday while online results can be accessed beginning this Saturday.</blockquote>
The results show that 9 of the top 10 ranked schools are in Harare while Bulawayo does not have a school in the top 40.
The 10 worst schools (0% pass rate) are in Matabeleland, 88 schools countrywide recorded a 0% pass rate.

UPDATED: Grade 7 Results Out, Pass Rate Falls By 9.79 Per Cent

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Director of Communications, Taungana Ndoro, has said Grade Seven results will be released early next year but definitely before 31 January.
Ndoro said Form One pupils for next year will enrol only after this year’s Ordinary Level candidates finish their examinations sometime in January 2021.
Form Fours started writing public examinations last week but they will have some of their papers overlapping into early next year and they will reopen on 4 January to finish the examinations.
Ndoro told the Sunday News that the phased reopening dates for returning classes will be announced in due course. He said:
<blockquote>We expect the Grade 7 results to be out before January 31. Form 1 pupils will enrol after the Ordinary level candidates have finished their examinations.
The idea is to continue decongesting our schools and following the Standards Operation Procedures amid the Covid-19 pandemic. We will have a phased schools reopening.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education will tomorrow open the online application platform for Form One pupils wishing to be enrolled in boarding schools next year.

Grade 7 Results To Be Released Before 31 January 2021

Acting Education Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kirsty_Coventry" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kirsty Coventry</a> has directed school heads to release Grade 7 results for all pupils including those whose parents have fees arrears.
Coventry made the call while addressing reporters in Harare on Friday. She said:
<blockquote>The ministry’s position is that education is the inalienable right of every child, while the charging of fees and levies is provided for by a Statutory Instrument, the responsibility for the payment for the fees is with the parent or guardian.
Heads of schools are directed to release any results that they may be withholding to enable the learners to proceed with their education without hindrance. Disregarding the directives given will have adverse consequences.</blockquote>
Secondary schools demand Grade 7 results from Form 1 applicants as a prerequisite for acceptance, and the withholding of results by some school heads has put pupils’ futures in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, with the Ministry announcing that online application for 2020 Form One places has been closed, thousands of pupils who have not yet accessed results have consequently been left out.

Kirsty Coventry Issues Stern Warning Against Headmasters Withholding Grade 7 Results

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC)</a> has announced that the 2019 Grade Seven results are out.
Indigenous languages recorded highest pass rates with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Shona" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Shona</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ndebele" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ndebele</a> recording above 80 per cent pass rate.
Zimsec board chair Eddie Mwenje said students would collect their results from their respective centres from Monday. 2019 national pass rate is 46.9 per cent down from last year’s 52.08 per cent.

ZIMSEC Grade 7 Results Out, Slight Fall In Pass Rate

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Paul Mavima, has warned primary schools that are still holding onto Grade Seven results of over arrears in school fees that it is illegal to do so. Some parents have complained that they are unable to get form one places for their children because they do not have the results.
Said Mavima:
<blockquote>Such an act is against the law. School authorities must be in agreement with parents on how they are going to sort out the outstanding fees. This should not affect the child’s education in any way.</blockquote>
Prof Mavima said schools should work with parents to come up with payment plans instead of withholding results.

It Is Illegal To Withhold Grade 7 Results Over School Fees, Minister Warns Schools

Speaking at a media briefing in Harare this evening, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Paul Mavima said Government will continue with the New Curriculum following positive Grade 7 results especially in Agriculture which was written for the first time at Grade 7.
Grade 7 pupils recorded a pass rate of 44.73 % which is an increase by 1.83% compared to last year’s pass rate. Grade 7 pupils this year set for five subjects after the addition of Agriculture and the subject recorded a 50.13% pass rate. Braille candidates recorded a pass rate of 71.43 %, enlarged print candidates recorded a pass rate of 50%, while candidates who are hard of hearing recorded a pass rate of 31.59%.

Govt vows to continue with New Curriculum following positive Grade 7 results

In a statement, Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) director Mr Esau Nhandara announced that the 2017 Grade Seven results are out and they have since been despatched to Zimsec regional offices.
Said Nhandara:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council is pleased to announce the release of the November 2017 Grade Seven national examination results. These have been despatched to Zimsec regional offices. Examination centre heads can collect the results from Zimsec regional offices from the 5th of December 2017 (today).</blockquote>
Nhandara said a comprehensive statement on the pass rates and trends will be issued today.

Zimsec 2017 Grade 7 results out

The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) has confirmed that Grade 7 pupils will be examined in Agriculture for the first time this year. The move will change the height of pass from four to five units.
Zimsec has sent specimen papers and circulars on the new examinations to school. In an interview wih The Herald on Tuesday, Zimsec public relations manager Ms Nicki Dhlamini confirmed that Grade 7 pupils will write Agriculture.
