The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for a motorist who allegedly hit two pedestrians and fled the scene in Mabvuku along the Harare-Mutare Road on Saturday morning.
According to a statement released by the police and seen by Pindula News, the two victims tragically passed away upon arrival at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Reads the statement:

The ZRP is investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident that occurred in Mabvuku along the Harare-Mutare Road on 08/07/23 at around 0300 hours, where an unknown motorist who was driving an Isuzu Double Cab (registration number and colour of the vehicle not recorded) allegedly ran over two pedestrians who had parked their Mazda B2200 on the road side. The two victims sustained severe injuries and died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Hit-and-run accidents are a major problem in Zimbabwe, with serious consequences for victims and offenders alike. Zimbabwe Police Seek Motorist In Hit-and-Run Accident That Killed Two Pedestrians

A hit-and-run driver who caused a fatal road traffic accident on June 20, 2023, at the intersection of Seke Road and Craneborne Avenue was been arrested by members of the public.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reported that the accident involved a Nissan UD truck that hit a motorcycle from behind, killing the passenger and injuring the rider. Reads the statement:

The ZRP reiterates that drivers must stop after an accident. Police in Harare are investigating a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 20/06/23 at the intersection of Seke Road and Craneborne Avenue.
A Nissan UD truck with no passengers on board hit a motor cycle from behind resulting in the passenger being killed while the rider sustained head injuries.
The driver of the UD truck, Masimbaashe Chindondo (26) did not stop after the accident and was subsequently apprehended by members of the public after a speed chase.

There have been multiple cases of hit-and-run incidents reported in Zimbabwe. These incidents involve drivers who flee the scene after colliding with pedestrians, motorcycles, or other vehicles. Some drivers flee the scene due to fear of legal consequences, lack of documentation, or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Fleeing makes it hard for victims or witnesses to report them. Such an act is illegal, and charges can be severe, especially if injuries or death result. Drivers are required to stay, provide aid, and cooperate with authorities.

Hit-and-Run Driver Who Caused A Fatal Accident Arrested By Public

Police have launched a manhunt for one Evans Vengwa who allegedly hit six pedestrians along Kadoma Patchway Road on 22 January this year.
Police said the suspect, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, abandoned the car at the scene of the accident and fled.
The victims were rushed to Kadoma Hospital where two died upon admission. Police said:

The ZRP is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Evans Vengwa, NR 10-007291-R-10, who is being sought in connection with a hit-and-run fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 22/01/23 along Kadoma Patchway Road.
The suspect, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, hit six pedestrians who were walking along the road. Subsequently, after the accident, the suspect ran away leaving the vehicle at the scene.
The victims were taken to Kadoma Hospital where two died upon admission. The suspect’s last known addresses are 2762 Munhumutapa Kadoma and Mudzimu Village, Nyamapanda.
Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

Honda Fit Driver Ploughs Into Six Pedestrians In Kadoma

A 17-year-old was hit by a train at the 253 km peg, Ruwa on 29 October 2022 at around 0755 hours while walking along the Harare-Mutare railway line putting on earphones.
A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) statement seen by Pindula News warns members of the public against putting on headphones or earphones while walking on the roads or crossing railway lines.
Police say this may diminish the ability to perceive or hear, thereby increasing the likelihood of being struck by a motor vehicle or train.
Meanwhile, police in Harare recorded a serious hit-and-run road traffic accident where a man (32) was run over on the left by a Toyota Sienta vehicle, registration number AFW 9839, at the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Julius Nyerere Way.
The motorist briefly stopped and sped off. The victim sustained an injury on the left foot and was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment. Investigations are underway.
The ZRP reiterates that motorists should stop, assist the injured, if necessary, and report all road traffic accidents to the Police within 24 hours.

Teenager Hit By Train While Walking Along The Railway Putting Earphones

Two people died following a hit-and-run Saturday evening along Seke Road. 
A police statement seen by Pindula News says one victim died on the spot while the other died upon admission at Chitungwiza Hospital. Reads the statement:

Police in Harare are investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident in which two people died after they were hit by an unknown motorist on 17/09/22 at around 1930 hours along Seke Road opposite Ridgeview Secondary School.
One of the victims sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot whilst the other victim, who is yet to be identified and aged approximately 35, died upon admission at Chitungwiza Hospital. Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station.

Meanwhile, police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of theft of a white Honda Fit vehicle, registration number AFK 0941, which was stolen by unknown suspects on the 15th of this month at a house in Nketa 7, Bulawayo.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says the driver had parked the vehicle and left the doors unlocked with the keys in the ignition when the incident happened.
Police are appealing to members of the public with information on the case to contact any nearest Police Station.

Two People Die In A Hit-and-run Incident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of Tinotenda Kalulu who was a passenger in a Toyota Hiace which hit an Isuzu KB 250 vehicle from behind and escaped from the scene.
A police report seen by Pindula News says the driver of the Isuzu KB 250 attempted to record particulars of the Toyota Hiace but Kalulu obstructed him. The report does not clarify how Kalulu did that. Reads the report:

Police in Harare are investigating a minor hit and run road traffic accident which occurred on 21/08/22 at around 1900 hours along Seke Road near Seke FlyOver. An unknown motorist driving a Toyota Hiace vehicle hit an Isuzu KB 250 vehicle from behind.
After the accident, a passenger aboard the Toyota Hiace vehicle, Tinotenda Kalulu, distracted the driver of the Isuzu KB 250 vehicle from noting the particulars of the Toyota Hiace vehicle leading to the Toyota Hiace vehicle being driven away.
The Police have since arrested Tinotenda Kalulu for obstructing the course of justice.

Meanwhile, police are warning members of the public against misuse of firearms, even registered ones, after a motorist identified as Admire Mugova (24) pointed a firearm at the complainant after an argument at a business centre in Wadzanai, Shamva.
The complainant had allegedly parked his vehicle at the back of Mugova’s vehicle thereby blocking him.

Hit And Run: Passenger Arrested For Blocking Recording Of Offending Vehicle's Particulars

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is appealing to members of the public who have missing relatives to assist in the identification of a victim of a hit and run road traffic accident.
Police said the victim is a male adult, whose body was found lying along Kirkman Road between Bishop Gaul and Monavale Roads on the 23rd of June 2022. A police statement seen by Pindula News reads:

Meanwhile, police in Mberengwa arrested Moses Mhlanga (43) for a case of robbery in which he attacked two women aged 26 and 43 at the Greenspan area in Mberengwa before stealing cash amounting to US 351, ZAR250, and a cellphone. 
After the robbery incident, the two complainants made a report at ZRP Mberengwa. While reporting, the complainants saw the suspect, who intended to file an assault report at the Police station, leading to his subsequent arrest.

Police Seek Assistance In Identification Of A Hit And Run Victim

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is appealing to members of the public who might have information on a hit-and-run accident that happened in Kadoma along the Harare – Bulawayo highway on Sunday 10 July 2022.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said the victim sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot. Reads the police statement:

The ZRP is investigating a fatal hit and run road traffic accident that occurred in Kadoma along Harare–Bulawayo road on 10/07/22 where an unknown motorist hit a yet-to-be-identified man.
The victim sustained multiple fractures on both legs and died on the spot. A broken white left-side rear view mirror of a Toyota vehicle was found at the scene. Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station.

Meanwhile, tongues are still wagging over the death of Joyce Tandi a 17-year-old girl who died after she was hit by Passion Java’s vehicle along Seke Road on Tuesday last week.
The family dismissed as not true the reports which suggested that Tandi, who was a member of the AFM in Zimbabwe Sunningdale 3 Assembly, was pregnant at the time of her death.
The family also said an offer by Passion Java to extend scholarships to Tandi’s children if she had any was an insult to the family considering that he never engaged the family to know his victim.

Hit And Run: Police Hunting Driver As Victim Dies On Spot

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over an alarming rise in hit and run cases across the country.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on 2 May this year, a 29-year-old man was hit by a Hino Sino truck at the intersection of Five Avenue and Sam Nujoma Street in Harare.
The victim sustained some head injuries and died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
In another hit and run incident that occurred on 3 May, a pedestrian aged 68 was knocked down by a Toyota Coaster along Bulawayo Road near the Kuwadzana roundabout. The victim died on the spot.
On the same day, a woman (34) also died on the spot after she was hit by a Nissan Caravan whilst trying to cross Mutare Road, near Mutangadura in Harare.
Asst Comm Nyathi urged motorists and pedestrians to always be observant on the roads.

Rise In Hit And Run Incidents Worry Police

A Zambian truck driver has been fined $6 000 or serve four months in a Zimbabwean jail after he hit a motorcyclist and drove off without stopping or reporting the accident.
Eugine Banda (43) who is employed by SANHE Transport and Logistics based in Kabwe in Zambia, hit Phillip Sibanda who was cycling along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road last month.
Banda, who was reportedly speeding and failed to apply brakes, was carrying 33 000kg of cobalt hydroxide and did not stop after hitting Sibanda leaving him for dead at the 392km peg.
Banda was arrested following investigations and was hauled before Victoria Falls magistrate Linda Dzvene facing three counts of negligent driving, failure to stop after a serious accident and failing to render assistance to the injured person.
He pleaded guilty to all three counts and the magistrate slapped him with a fine of $6 000 or be jailed for four months in default.
Prosecuting, Asher Chindedza said Sibanda fractured his leg and sustained some injuries and police officers who attended the scene referred him to Victoria Falls Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Hit And Run Zambian Trucker Fined $6 000

An errant motorist has been arrested for negligent driving after a video went viral on social media in which his motor vehicle hit a pedestrian at traffic lights in Harare.
According to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Herbert Chakanyuka ((57), hit Mitchelle Kamupfumo (7) at the traffic lights controlled intersection of Liberation Legacy Way (Borrowdale Road) and Harare Drive. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the suspect, Herbert CHAKANYUKA (57) has been arrested and the victim has since been identified as Mitchelle KAMUPFUMO (7).
The suspect is being charged for, “Negligent driving and Failure to stop after an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to render assistance after an accident” and the case is now pending before the courts.

Viral Video Assists Police Nab Hit And Run Driver

A motorist knocked down a police officer who was among a security team manning a security checkpoint in Harare recently and fled from the scene.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement said that the incident occurred on Tuesday along Kirkman Road in Harare.
The suspect, who was driving a pink Honda Fit registration numbers ACU 0175, was pursued to Westlea where he dumped the vehicle and fled on foot. Said Asst Insp Nyathi:
<blockquote>The ZRP is warning drivers against failing to stop at Police Check Points and failing to cooperate with Police Officers on the roads.
On 26/01/21, a motorist driving a pink Honda Fit registration numbers ACU 0175 approached a Police Roadblock along Kirkman Road, Harare and hit a Police Officer on the security checkpoint.
After the accident, the driver did not stop and was pursued up-to Westlea, where he dumped the motor vehicle and fled. Investigations are in progress.</blockquote>
In November last year, a policeman doing traffic enforcement duties near Fourth Street bus terminus died after he was run over by a truck.
The policeman was trying to arrest the driver for picking up a passenger at an undesignated place.
