The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on July 17, 2023 at around 0530 hours along Harare-Mutare Road near Mabvuku turn-off. A police report seen by Pindula News states that four people died in the accident, while four others sustained injuries. Police said the accident involved a Honda Fit vehicle with four passengers on board that hit a pedestrian before swerving to the right, resulting in a head-on collision with another Honda Fit vehicle carrying one passenger.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured are receiving medical attention at the same hospital.

Two Honda Fit Vehicles Collided, Killing Four And Injuring Four

A 33-year-old man was robbed of US$41 000 cash by three unknown men who had offered him a lift to Borrowdale, Harare.
Police said the victim’s kombi broke down near 6th Avenue and Borrowdale Road and he decided to hitchhike to complete his journey.
The robbers allegedly dumped the man near Mukuvisi Woodlands in Rhodesville, Harare and unfortunately, he could not capture the vehicle’s registration numbers.
A statement released by the police on Saturday morning, however, did not state when the alleged robbery case occurred. It said:

The ZRP is investigating a robbery case where a man (33), who had his Nissan Caravan broken down near 6th Avenue and Borrowdale Road, was offered a lift to Borrowdale by three unknown male adults who were travelling in a white Honda Fit vehicle, registration number not captured.
Along the way, the suspects diverted the root and robbed the complainant of US$41 000 cash, a cellphone, and a wallet with identification particulars before dumping him near Mukuvisi woodlands in Rhodesville.

Police have repeatedly urged members of the public to desist from boarding mushikashika vehicles and use buses for their safety.
ZRP Harare Metropolitan Province spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza recently told <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/03/27/police-intensify-blitz-against-mshikashika/">ZBC News</a> that mushikashika has resulted in an increase in reports of rape and robberies.

Honda Fit Crew Robs Harare Man Of US$41 000

Police have launched a manhunt for one Evans Vengwa who allegedly hit six pedestrians along Kadoma Patchway Road on 22 January this year.
Police said the suspect, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, abandoned the car at the scene of the accident and fled.
The victims were rushed to Kadoma Hospital where two died upon admission. Police said:

The ZRP is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Evans Vengwa, NR 10-007291-R-10, who is being sought in connection with a hit-and-run fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 22/01/23 along Kadoma Patchway Road.
The suspect, who was driving a Honda Fit vehicle, hit six pedestrians who were walking along the road. Subsequently, after the accident, the suspect ran away leaving the vehicle at the scene.
The victims were taken to Kadoma Hospital where two died upon admission. The suspect’s last known addresses are 2762 Munhumutapa Kadoma and Mudzimu Village, Nyamapanda.
Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

Honda Fit Driver Ploughs Into Six Pedestrians In Kadoma

<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/two-minors-killed-as-overloaded-honda-fit-vehicles-collide/">The accident</a> involving two overloaded Honda Fit vehicles along Ruwazi-Igava Road in Marondera has outraged members of the public with some saying the Zimbabwe Republic Police was sleeping on duty.
A <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/two-minors-killed-as-overloaded-honda-fit-vehicles-collide/">police report</a> published earlier by Pindula News noted that the road traffic accident occurred on 23 January 2023 at the 4 km peg along Ruwazi–Igava Road, Marondera.
Two people died on the spot while 15 others were injured when a Honda Fit with eight passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with another Honda Fit vehicle with nine passengers on board. 
The bodies of the victims were taken to Marondera Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
ZRP spokesperson in Mashonaland East Province Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi identified the deceased as Akisha Madziwa (6), from Yellow City, and Ashy James (13) also from Yellow City in Marondera.
Inspector Chazovachiyi said the two died on the spot after sustaining head injuries.

Reactions To Accident Involving Two Honda Fit Cars Carrying 17 People

In what appears to be greed and recklessness on the part of Mushikashika drivers, two Honda Fit vehicles, carrying a combined 17 passengers, were involved in a head-on collision along Ruwazi–Igava Road, Marondera on Monday, 23 January.
Police said one of the vehicles was carrying 8 passengers while the other one was carrying 9 passengers when the accident occurred yesterday afternoon.
Posting on their official Twitter account, police said two people died on the spot following the accident while several other passengers were injured. Police said:

Two Minors Killed As Overloaded Honda Fit Vehicles Collide

Six (6) people were killed while seven (7) others were injured in a road traffic accident that occurred around 10 AM along Harare-Bulawayo Road this Monday.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said a Honda Fit vehicle with eight passengers on board collided head-on with a Toyota KZ Double cab vehicle which had three passengers on board. Police said:

The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 19/12/22 at around 1000 hours at the 111 km peg along Harare- Bulawayo Road in which six people died while seven others were injured.
A Honda Fit Vehicle with eight passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota KZ Double cab vehicle that had three passengers on board.
Four people died on the spot while two others died on the way to the hospital.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Chegutu District Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

Six Killed, 7 Injured In Road Traffic Accident

The City of Bulawayo is mulling a clampdown on pirate taxis, mostly Honda Fit vehicles, which are causing congestion and disorder in the central business district (CBD).
The pirate taxis pick up and drop off passengers at undesignated points resulting in unnecessary congestion.
According to the latest council minutes, Bulawayo councillors said the relevant by-laws should be enforced to remove the pirate taxis from the city’s roads. The minutes read in part:
(Ward 4) Councillor S. (Silas) Chigora applauded Council for the recently ended clean-up campaign and the enforcement of vending by-laws.

He also applauded other stakeholders who had assisted the council in this operation.
He felt that enforcement should continue and also be extended to illegal pirate taxis, mostly Honda Fits. Illegal pirate taxis had invaded areas adjacent to the City Hall.
There was a lot of fouling in those areas. The relevant by-laws should be enforced. A clean City attracted investors.

In response, Deputy Mayor Councillor Mlandu Ncube assured councillors that the pirate taxis menace will be attended to. He said:

Bulawayo Council Mulls Clampdown On Pirate Taxis

A Bulawayo man has been arrested for pointing his licensed gun at another following a dispute over the price of a Honda Fit fuel pump.
Posting on Twitter, police said Emmanuel Charuka (30) pointed his 9mm pistol at Maxwell Tshabalala (39) at a car parts shop leading to his arrest. Police said:

The ZRP warns firearm holders against abusing firearms to settle scores. On 05/10/22, Police in Bulawayo arrested Emmanuel Charuka (30) for pointing a firearm.
The suspect pointed a 9mm pistol at Maxwell Tshabalala (39) at a car parts shop in Kelvin North after disagreeing on the price of a Honda Fit fuel pump.
The Police have since recovered the 9mm pistol registered in the suspect’s name.

In July, police warned members of the public with licensed firearms to desist from displaying them in public.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police had cases where some people got into shopping centres displaying firearms. He said:

We have had cases of people who are abusing their firearms. Some are giving them to their relatives who later use them to commit robberies.
Others are not securing their firearms which then land in the wrong hands later used by criminals.
We have also had cases where some people even get into shopping centres and start showing around live arms.
Others get to a stage of going to public gatherings where they start firing unnecessarily in the air, which is dangerous.

Man Brandishes Gun During Dispute Over Price Of Car Parts

Two people were injured when a DAF truck hit a Honda Fit on the passenger door along Seke road on Sunday 4 September 2022.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says the driver of the truck did not stop after the accident. Reads the police report:

… two people were injured when an unknown motorist driving a white DAF truck hit a Honda fit vehicle on the passenger door along Seke Road near Zuva Service Station, Chikwanha, Chitungwiza. The truck driver did not stop after the accident.

In yet another hit-and-run accident, a pedestrian was hit with a rearview mirror by an unknown motorist along Chaminuka Road opposite Total Service Station, Huruyadzo on Saturday last week.
As a result, the pedestrian sustained injuries on the hands and was referred to a local hospital where he was treated and discharged. The motorist did not stop after the accident.
The ZRP reiterates that drivers must stop after an accident and make a report to the Police within 24 hours.

DAF Truck Hits A Honda Fit On The Passenger Door Injuring Two

One person died and three others were injured in Chipinge after they were hit by a speeding motorist who had three passengers aboard his Honda Fit vehicle.
Mahlanganise Chiedzo (47) of Gaza E, Chipinge was recently arrested for running over four pedestrians along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road in Chipinge.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the arrest of Chiedzo. He said:

The driver was speeding with three passengers aboard his Honda Fit vehicle. He lost control of the car near the 243km peg, veered off the road and ran over four pedestrians.
Sylvia Makuyana (34) died upon admission at Birchenough Bridge Hospital, while Chipo Mtisi, Brandon Sithole and two-month-old Kelvin Tembo sustained injuries.

Insp Muzondo warned drivers against speeding and urged them to always exercise caution on the road.

Speeding Motorist Runs Over Four People

A motorist lost his car in Harare on Friday night when an unknown man jumped into the car and drove away while the owner was touting for passengers.
The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> said the incident happened around 2110 hours at the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Cameroon Street.
Police say the motorist left the keys of a Toyota Wish (AED 4810) in the ignition while touting for passengers. Further reads the police statement:

In a related case, the vehicle’s owner left it parked at the intersection of Julius Nyerere and Speke Avenue while buying some vegetables.
Police say he locked the doors and windows. He returned after about 15 minutes and found the car, a Honda Fit vehicle (AEY 7761), gone.

Man Jumps Into Car And Drives Away While Owner Was Touting For Passengers

A police officer, Constable John Mudimba, almost died in a car crash after a drunk Honda Fit crew allegedly “kidnapped” him and forced him into their vehicle and drove off before hitting a pole.
B-Metro reported a source as saying Mudimba, who is stationed at Hillside Police Station and his three colleagues were assigned to arrest people who were fighting at Hillside Shopping Centre.
When the police officers arrived at the shops, they found Xolani Dube (32) and Trust Manyika fighting and managed to separate the two.
It is alleged that soon after the fight ended, Xolani and his partner grabbed Mudimba and bundled him into their Honda Fit car before they drove off at high speed.
However, when they reached Famona suburb, Xolani lost control of the car and it veered off the road and hit a pole.
Meanwhile, Mudimba escaped unhurt from the incident that left the car extensively damaged.
He then called his colleagues who rushed to the scene and arrested Xolani.

Honda Fit Crew Kidnaps Police Officer

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a case of robbery where a vehicle was stolen from Esigodini.
Police confirmed the incident which occurred in Habane Township on Thursday last week. Said the police:
<blockquote>Police in Esigodini are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of theft of a motor vehicle which occurred at number 26 Habane Township.
On 22 July the victim discovered that his White Honda Fit motor vehicle had been stolen after he parked it at the yard the previous night.</blockquote>
Police are also investigating another case of theft of a motor vehicle where a Toyota Corolla Bubble vehicle was stolen after the victim parked it at the yard on Saturday at Flat 208/210 Second Street Avondale, Harare.
In another incident, a blue Honda Fit vehicle and US$1 500 which was in the vehicle, were stolen after the complainant parked the vehicle at a service station near Glenview 8 Complex.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in the investigations to contact any nearest Police Station.
Some of the vehicles are altered and sold to unsuspecting customers while some are later dumped.

Vehicle Theft On The Rise - Police Hunt Robbers

A 26-year-old Harare man was recently arrested after he rammed into a State motorcade along Bulawayo Road in Harare.
It emerged that the suspect, Tatenda Mupariwa, does not have a driver’s licence.
Mupariwa appeared at Mbare Magistrates Court charged with negligent driving and driving without a licence.
He was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Nyasha Vitorini, who remanded him to 24 May for trial.
Prosecutor Tatenda Mutawarira told the court that on Monday at around 10 am, Mupariwa was driving his Honda Fit west along Bulawayo Road intending to turn right into Golden Quarry Road.
Munyaradzi Marimo, the first outrider leading the State motorcade, was on duty riding a motorcycle east sounding a siren signalling motorists to pull over to make way for the motorcade.
It is alleged that Mupariwa turned right in front of the oncoming first outrider, resulting in the collision.
Marimo is said to have sustained facial injuries and was rushed to ZRP Morris Camp Hospital for treatment, while Mupariwa was rushed to West End Hospital after sustaining injuries too.
The State alleges that Mupariwa turned right in front of oncoming vehicles and failed to stop when he saw that an accident was imminent.

Unlicensed Honda Fit Driver Rams Into State Motorcade

One of the drivers who were part of the motorcade of the late Thembinkosi Sishoma lost control of his vehicle and landed in a ditch near Nketa 6 filling station.
This happened when Honda Fit drivers gave a wild and loud send off to their colleague Sishoma who was allegedly brutally murdered by <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/14/body-of-missing-nust-student-found-in-shallow-grave/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">assailants who hired him on the pretext that they wanted him to ferry their goods to Roseburn near Solusi.</a>

The drivers were dangerously dragging and spinning their vehicles on a busy road much to the chagrin of other motorists.
Sishoma was laid to rest at Athlone Cemetery.
