The United States has decided to send Ukraine a package of cluster munitions to aid in its counteroffensive against Russia, despite the risks of civilian harm from the unexploded ordnance.
Ukraine has been asking for cluster munitions to address its ammunition shortage for months. These weapons are banned by more than 100 countries because they have a high risk of failure, which means that unexploded bomblets can remain on the ground for years and explode later on. Due to this, cluster munitions are controversial.
US President Joe Biden said the decision to send the munitions to Ukraine was hard on his part – on one hand, Ukraine was running out of ammunition and on the other hand, the weapons are dangerous. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told Friday’s daily White House briefing:

We recognise the cluster munitions create a risk of civilian harm from unexploded ordnance. This is why we’ve deferred the decision for as long as we could. Ukraine would not be using these munitions in some foreign land. This is their country they’re defending. We will not leave Ukraine defenceless at any point in this conflict period.
</blockquote>
Sullivan claimed that the cluster munitions the US plans to send to Ukraine have a dud rate of less than 2.5%, significantly lower than Russia’s rate of 30-40%. The Pentagon did not disclose the exact amount of cluster munitions that would be sent but stated that they have “hundreds of thousands” available. 
A United Nations investigation found Ukraine has probably already used cluster bombs, though the country has denied doing so. In a statement on Friday, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights once again called on the countries not to use cluster bombs, arguing they were dangerous. Said office spokesperson Marta Hurtado:

Cluster munitions scatter small bomblets over a wide area, many of which fail to explode immediately. They can kill and maim years later. That’s why use should stop immediately.

The decision to send the munitions has faced criticism from human rights groups and some US lawmakers. Some US lawmakers have also asked the Biden administration not to send the weapons, arguing their humanitarian costs outweigh their benefits on the battlefield.

US President Biden Decides To Send Banned Bombs To Ukraine

United States President, Joe Biden tripped on a sandbag and fell on stage at the Air Force Academy in Colorado on Thursday.
Biden (80), had delivered the commencement address to graduates of the military academy, had just shaken hands with a cadet and had begun walking back to his seat when he fell.
He landed on his right hip before lifting himself up on his right hand, according to <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2023/06/01/politics/biden-us-air-force-academy-trip/index.html">CNN</a>.
A group of men, including an official with the Air Force Academy and two Secret Service agents, helped him back to his feet.
As he got back up, Biden pointed back toward the ground where he tripped, indicating he stumbled on something.
He returned to his seat in the stands without assistance and appeared in good spirits as the ceremony concluded.
Biden had spent more than 90 minutes handing out diplomas and congratulating hundreds of cadets.
Biden is the United States of America’s oldest president and is running for a second term in 2024. He’s had previous stumbles in public.
Despite those incidents, Biden’s doctor has said is physically fit to serve in office.

President Biden Trips, Falls On Air Force Stage

United States President, Joe Biden has named his nominees for ambassadorship roles in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Niger.
The U.S. foreign relations committee held confirmation hearings for Biden’s ambassadorship nominees to the four African countries on Wednesday.
According to <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/biden-names-nominees-for-zimbabwe-rwanda-nigeria-and-niger-ambassadorship-20230303">News24</a>, ambassador-designate to Zimbabwe, Pamela Tremont, has 30 years of experience in foreign services.
Tremont said she will actively work to support the democratic aspirations of Zimbabweans. She said:

If confirmed, I will actively work to support the democratic aspirations of those advocating for Zimbabweans’ constitutional rights, and I will seek partnerships with all those in Zimbabwe who are doing the same.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs, Robert Scott, was in Zimbabwe and had engagements with the government about the upcoming general elections.
Speaking after meeting Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava in Harare, Scott said they all agreed on the need for non-violence during the upcoming elections.

President Biden Names Nominee For Zimbabwe Ambassadorship

The United States of America has extended the sanctions that it imposed on Zimbabwe in 2003.
In <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/03/01/notice-on-the-continuation-of-the-national-emergency-with-respect-to-zimbabwe-3/">a statement</a> released by the White this Wednesday, 01 March 2023, U.S. President Joe Biden said the restrictive measures initially promulgated through Executive Order 13288 shall continue in effect beyond March 6, 2023. Reads the statement:

<h2>Notice on the Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Zimbabwe</h2>
On March 6, 2003, by Executive Order 13288, the President declared a national emergency and blocked the property of certain persons, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701-1706), to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States constituted by the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions.
These actions and policies had contributed to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Zimbabwe, to politically motivated violence and intimidation in that country, and to political and economic instability in the southern African region.
On November 22, 2005, the President issued Executive Order 13391 to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 by ordering the blocking of property of additional persons undermining democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.
On July 25, 2008, the President issued Executive Order 13469, which expanded the scope of the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 and authorized the blocking of property of additional persons undermining democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.
The actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States.
For this reason, the national emergency declared on March 6, 2003, and the measures adopted on that date, on November 22, 2005, and on July 25, 2008, to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2023.
Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288.
This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.

United States President Joe Biden Extends Sanctions On Zimbabwe

President Vladimir Putin recently warned that he is ready to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia amid the war in Ukraine and Tony Brenton, a former British ambassador to Russia says that’s a possibility.
Western politicians, diplomats and nuclear weapons experts are divided. Some say he could use smaller, tactical nuclear weapons to prevent military defeat, protect his presidency, scare off the West or intimidate Kyiv into surrender, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/truth-or-bluff-why-putins-nuclear-warnings-have-west-worried-2022-09-28/?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=twitter">Reuters</a> reported.
In his most recent comments, Putin explicitly warned the West which he accused of discussing a potential nuclear attack on Russia. He said:

This is not a bluff. And those who try to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the weathervane can turn and point towards them.
</blockquote>
Putin’s warning might mean the Kremlin is considering an escalation after <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/ukrainians-in-breakaway-states-vote-to-join-russia-election-officials/">Russia annexes four Ukrainian regions which it only partly occupies.</a>
Russia’s parliament is expected to declare the regions as part of Russia on October 4, 2022. Once that happens the way would be clear, from Moscow’s viewpoint, for a possible defensive strike if it felt the territory was under serious threat.
Putin controls the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, including a new generation of hypersonic weapons and ten times more tactical nuclear weapons than the West, and the United States and the NATO military alliance are taking him seriously.
Tony Brenton told Reuters in August before Putin stepped up his warnings:

If the choice for Russia is fighting a losing war, and losing badly and Putin falling, or some kind of nuclear demonstration, I wouldn’t bet that they wouldn’t go for the nuclear demonstration. 
</blockquote>
U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told U.S. TV networks on Sunday that President Joe Biden’s administration was taking Putin’s comments “deadly serious” and had warned Moscow of specific “catastrophic consequences” if it used nuclear arms.
Washington has not spelt out its likely response, but using a nuclear device could trigger a nuclear escalation, which is why most experts believe a massive conventional attack on Russian military assets would be more likely.
Asked if Putin was moving towards a nuclear attack, CIA Director William Burns told CBS on Tuesday:

We have to take very seriously his kind of threats given everything that’s at stake.
</blockquote>
Burns, though, said U.S. intelligence had no practical evidence that Putin was moving towards using tactical nuclear weapons imminently.
If Putin did order a nuclear strike inside Ukraine, it would be the first use of nuclear weapons in battle since the United States unleashed the atomic bomb attacks on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

United States of America’s President Joe Biden on Friday warned Russia there will be “swift and severe” costs if Moscow uses “sham” referendums to annex more of Ukraine.
Biden said in a statement:

Russia’s referenda are a sham, a false pretext to try to annex parts of Ukraine by force in flagrant violation of international law. We will work with our allies and partners to impose additional swift and severe economic costs on Russia.

Kremlin-held regions of eastern and southern Ukraine entered the second day of voting to become part of Russia on Saturday.
The voting on whether Russia should annex four regions of Ukraine started Friday, dramatically raising the stakes seven months after Moscow’s troops invaded.
The votes even prompted a reaction from Beijing, Moscow’s closest ally since the war began in February.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in comments made to his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba at the UN General Assembly Friday, said the “sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected.”

Voting is being held in Russian-controlled areas of Donetsk and Lugansk in the east, and Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south.
Polling stations open Tuesday for residents to cast ballots on the final day. It was also possible to vote at the building in Moscow that represents the Donetsk breakaway region.
The vote was announced earlier last week after a Ukrainian counteroffensive seized most of the northeastern Kharkiv region, bringing hundreds of settlements back under Kyiv’s control after months of Russian occupation.
The four regions’ integration into Russia would represent a major escalation of the conflict as Moscow would consider any military move there as an attack on its own territory.
The referendums are reminiscent of the one held after Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea in 2014.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday denounced the polls describing them as “crimes against international law and the law of Ukraine.”
Earlier Friday, G7 nations said the polls will “never” be recognized and have “no legal effect or legitimacy.”

Joe Biden Warns Russia Of “Swift And Severe” Costs If Moscow Annex More Of Ukraine

Russia has reiterated that its nuclear doctrine is self-explanatory, with top Russian officials repeatedly stating that the conflict in Ukraine does not meet any of its criteria. 
The statement followed US President Joe Biden’s threat of a harsh, “consequential” response should Russia use weapons of mass destruction.
Speaking to RIA Novosti on Saturday when asked about the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said:
<blockquote>
Read the doctrine, everything is written there.
</blockquote>
According to Russia’s nuclear posture, Moscow reserves the right to use atomic weapons only:
<blockquote>
a). “in response to the use of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction against Russia or 
b). its allies,” as well as “in response to a conventional attack that threatens the very existence” of Russia as a sovereign state.
</blockquote>
The latest update to the doctrine, made in 2020, clarified two more scenarios for the possible use of nuclear arms: 
<blockquote>
i). receiving “credible information about the launch of ballistic missiles” targeting the territory of Russia or its allies, or 
ii). an attack “on critical infrastructure that controls nuclear weapons,” potentially rendering the deterrent inoperable.

In mid-August, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu also dismissed as “absurd” claims that Moscow might use nukes in Ukraine, saying there are no targets there that would warrant doing so.

Russia Responds To Biden's Warning Against Use Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction In Ukraine

United States president Joe Biden has warned his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin against using weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in Ukraine.
He said in an interview with CBS News scheduled to air Sunday night:
<blockquote>
Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. You will change the face of war unlike anything since World War II,” 
</blockquote>
Biden would not comment specifically on a U.S. response if Russia were to use chemical or nuclear weapons in Ukraine. He added:
<blockquote>
They’ll become more of a pariah in the world than they ever have been. And depending on the extent of what they do will determine what response would occur.
</blockquote>
Following a meeting with European Union and G-7 partners and NATO allies in March, Biden said NATO would respond “in kind” to any use of WMDs in Ukraine. Biden said, referring to Putin:

We will respond if he uses it. The nature of the response depends on the nature of the use.
</blockquote>
A month later, Biden chastised Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as “irresponsible” after Lavrov told Russian state television that the risks of nuclear war were “considerable.” Biden said:

No one should be making idle comments about the use of nuclear weapons or the possibility of the need to use them.
</blockquote>

Just days into his invasion of Ukraine, Putin ordered Russia’s nuclear forces on high alert for the first time since the fall of the former Soviet Union, prompting the White House to assemble a team of national security officials — the so-called Tiger Team — to study potential responses in the event Russia deployed chemical, biological or nuclear weapons against Ukraine, neighbouring nations or NATO convoys of weapons and aid headed for Ukraine.
In 2000, Russia updated its military doctrine to allow the first use of nuclear weapons “in response to large-scale aggression utilizing conventional weapons in situations critical to the national security of the Russian Federation,” according to the U.S.-based Arms Control Association. 
The 1997 version of the doctrine had allowed the first use of nuclear arms only “in case of a threat to the existence of the Russian Federation.”
The newest version also states for the first time that Russia has the right to use nuclear weapons to respond to all “weapons of mass destruction” attacks.
Meanwhile, Russia’s targeting of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant has renewed nuclear anxiety across Europe. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi reported Saturday that the plant, Europe’s largest, is once again receiving electricity from the national grid.
Ukraine recently reclaimed some lost territories allegedly due to aid from its allies, the United States included.
There are fears that Russia might want to use sophisticated weapons to outsmart Ukraine and its allies.

"Dont'. Don't. Don't" Biden Warns Putin Against Using Weapons Of Mass Destruction Against Ukraine

South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa has told United States president, Joe Biden that sanctions on Zimbabwe are affecting other countries in the region as economic migrants from Zimbabwe are fleeing to neighbouring countries.
Peter Ndoro, a broadcast journalist posted on Twitter:

Meeting with President Biden, President Ramaphosa raised the issue of <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23sanctions" rel="hashtag noopener" target="_blank">#sanctions</a> on <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Zimbabwe" rel="hashtag noopener" target="_blank">#Zimbabwe</a>. A senior Biden administration official told reporters earlier in the day that the United States president wanted to discuss the war in Ukraine with Ramaphosa, and hear the South African leader’s “thoughts on the best way forward”.
Biden, who has led an international coalition in applying a slew of economic sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin over the war, wants South Africa’s help in those efforts.
But the South African government has resisted calls to directly condemn Russia for the invasion citing close historical ties to Moscow due to the Soviet Union’s support for the anti-apartheid struggle.
Meanwhile, some argue that the economic crisis in Zimbabwe was caused by corruption and looting of national resources by political elites in the ruling ZANU PF, not by sanctions imposed on the southern African country at the turn of the millennium.
The U.S. imposed sanctions, known as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Democracy_and_Economic_Recovery_Act_Of_2001">ZDERA</a> on Zimbabwe following Robert Mugabe’s administration-initiated fast-track land reform programme that was marred by “gross human rights violations.” 
America has always maintained that sanctions were attracted by human rights violations and will only be removed when Zimbabwe implement requisite reforms.
Statistics suggest that hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans fled the country twenty years ago when the economy collapsed, most of them in South Africa.

Ramaphosa Tells Biden That Sanctions Forcing Zimbabweans To Migrate To Neighbouring Countries

United States President Joe Biden on Monday announced the killing of al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike in Kabul, Afghanistan.
In a speech from the White House, Biden said he had “authorized a precision strike that would remove him from the battlefield, once and for all.”
Zawahiri, who just turned 71 years old, had remained a visible international symbol of the group, 11 years after the US killed Osama bin Laden.
The terrorist was hiding in downtown Kabul to reunite with his family and was killed in a “precise tailored airstrike” using two Hellfire missiles, according to senior U.S. government officials.
The drone strike was conducted at 9:48 PM ET on Saturday and was authorized by Biden following weeks of meetings with his Cabinet and key advisers, reported CNN.
No American personnel were on the ground in Kabul at the time of the strike.
A U.S. official said senior Haqqani Taliban figures were aware of Zawahiri’s presence in the area in “clear violation of the Doha agreement.”
The official added that the Taliban even took steps to conceal his presence after Saturday’s successful strike and restricted access to the safe house.
The US did not alert Taliban officials ahead of Saturday’s strike.
In a series of tweets, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid  condemned the strike saying it was “a clear violation of international principles and the Doha Agreement.”

China has vowed to take a “resolute and strong” response to any Taiwan visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, setting the stage for a possible showdown over the reported landmark trip. 
Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Tuesday Pelosi’s plan to lead a delegation to Taipei next month, which was reported by the Financial Times, would have a “grave impact” on US-China ties. 
China had issued a similar warning about a planned Pelosi visit in April before she contracted COVID-19 and cancelled the trip. 
<a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/7/19/us-house-speaker-nancy-pelosi-to-visit-taiwan-reports">Al Jazeera</a> quotes Zhao Lijian as saying the visit would seriously undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the United States would bear the consequences of its response.
If her trip goes ahead, Pelosi will be the first sitting Speaker of the House to visit Taiwan since Newt Gingrich travelled to the territory in 1997 to meet then-President Lee Teng-hui.
The timing of Gingrich’s trip was noteworthy as it came a year after Taiwan’s first democratic elections were held in 1996.
Pelosi’s expected visit will take place at a significant low point for US-China and China-Taiwan relations. China is also preparing for its all-important Party Congress in October and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army on August 1.
Wen-Ti Sung, who teaches at the Australian National University’s Taiwan Studies programme predicted that China might signal its discontent by sending People’s Liberation Army planes into Taiwan’s air defence identification zone (ADIZ), a stretch of land and sea along the Chinese coast monitored by the military. He told Al Jazeera:

Beijing will likely warn against potential collusion between US and Taiwan’s ruling DPP, possibly coupled with increase in PLA warplanes activities near Taiwan’s ADIZ. China sees self-ruled Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be part of the country again. China’s President Xi Jinping has said “reunification” with Taiwan “must be fulfilled” – and has not ruled out the possible use of force to achieve this.
However, Taiwan, an island, roughly 100 miles from the coast of southeast China, sees itself as an independent country, with its own constitution and democratically-elected leaders.

China Warns US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Planned Visit To Taiwan Will Have Consequences

The United States (U.S.) envoy to NATO said on Sunday that the United States does not have a policy of regime change in Russia.
His remarks were an effort to clarify President Joe Biden’s statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power.”
Speaking in Poland, the US president built on earlier remarks in which he called Vladimir Putin a “butcher”, describing him as “a dictator” and saying stopping the war in Ukraine is “the task of our time”.
He said: “Brutality will never grind down the will to be free. Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia.” He added at the end of his speech:

For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.
</blockquote>
The White House later denied the US president was calling for regime change.
A Kremlin spokesman, responding to Mr Biden’s comment, said:

Hours after Biden’s speech, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States does not have a plan for regime change in Russia. He said Sunday during a press conference in Jerusalem:

I think the president, the White House, made the point last night that, quite simply, President Putin cannot be empowered to wage war or engage in aggression against Ukraine or anyone else.
As you know, and as you have heard us say repeatedly, we do not have a strategy of regime change in Russia or anywhere else, for that matter.

Julianne Smith, U.S. ambassador to NATO, also reaffirmed Sunday that the U.S. is not pursuing regime change in Russia. 
On February 24, 2022, Putin authorised <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/02/24/ukraines-foreign-minister-putin-launched-full-scale-invasion-well-defend-and-win/">a military operation on Ukraine</a> citing human rights violations on Russian speaking citizens. U.S. Envoy To NATO Speaks On Biden's "Putin Cannot Remain In Power" Remarks

Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop reportedly contains emails that appear to back up Russian claims that the US president’s son was involved in financing military research into dangerous pathogens at Biolabs in Ukraine.
Citing newly obtained emails and letters from the computer, the UK’s Daily Mail outlined on Friday, that Biden helped arrange millions of dollars in financing for Metabiota, a Pentagon contractor that specialized in researching pandemic-causing pathogens that could be used as bioweapons.
The president’s son and his partners in a firm called Rosemont Seneca also invested $500 000 in the contractor.
At least one of the documents suggested that Metabiota’s interest in Ukraine went beyond research and money-making. 
An executive with the contractor, Mary Guttieri, explained in an April 2014 memo to Hunter Biden “how we can potentially leverage our team, networks and concepts to assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia and continued integration into Western society.”
Another memo showed that Biden had pitched a “science project” involving Metabiota and Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company where Biden made millions of dollars as a board member. His pay was cut by half after his father’s stint as US vice president ended in January 2017.
The revelations come one day after Russian military officials alleged that US agencies and high-level Democrats, including Hunter Biden, have been involved in backing bioweapons research in Ukraine. The officials cited documents that had been seized by Russian soldiers in the former Soviet republic.
However, some Western media outlets dismissed the claims as Russian propaganda meant to justify Moscow’s military attack on Ukraine. 
Even the Daily Mail itself, before obtaining the latest Biden emails, said Russia had ramped up its “wild propaganda campaign” by making its bioweapons claims.

Emails In Hunter Biden's Abandoned Laptop Suggest He Aided Ukraine's Military Research

United States of America President, Joe Biden, has with immediate effect, extended by another year the sanctions initially imposed on Zimbabwe on 6 March 2003, by Executive Order 13288. A statement released by the White House this Thursday reads:

On March 6, 2003, by Executive Order 13288, the President declared a national emergency and blocked the property of certain persons, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701-1706), to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States constituted by the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions.
These actions and policies had contributed to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Zimbabwe, to politically motivated violence and intimidation in that country, and to political and economic instability in the southern African region.
On November 22, 2005, the President issued Executive Order 13391 to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 by ordering the blocking of the property of additional persons undermining democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.
On July 25, 2008, the President issued Executive Order 13469, which expanded the scope of the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 and authorized the blocking of the property of additional persons undermining democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.
The actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States.
For this reason, the national emergency declared on March 6, 2003, and the measures adopted on that date, on November 22, 2005, and on July 25, 2008, to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2022.
Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288.
This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.

United States Extends Sanctions On Zimbabwe

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has said the UK and its allies will respond to Russian “aggression” after Russia launched a “full-scale” invasion of its neighbour.
Russian president, Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine on Thursday with explosions heard soon after in the capital and other parts of the country, prompting outrage from Joe Biden who warned of a “catastrophic loss of life”. 
Putin said in a television announcement shortly before 6:00 am (0300 GMT) in Moscow:

I have made the decision of a military operation.
</blockquote>
He also called on Ukrainian soldiers to lay down their arms, and justified the invasion by claiming a “genocide” in Ukraine’s east.
The Kremlin had earlier said rebel leaders in eastern Ukraine had asked Moscow for military help against Kyiv. Speaking on the development, Johnson said:

I am appalled by the horrific events in Ukraine and I have spoken to President Zelenskyy to discuss next steps. President Putin has chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction by launching this unprovoked attack on Ukraine. The UK and our allies will respond decisively.

This comes after United States president, Joe Biden, had said Russia alone was responsible for the escalation. He said:

Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable.

He added that the US will also coordinate with its NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the Alliance. 
Russia previously denied any plan to attack Ukraine but threatened unspecified “military-technical” action unless it received security guarantees, including a promise that its neighbour will never join NATO.

Russia’s President Vladmir Putin has scoffed at Amerca’s <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/18/biden-says-killer-putin-will-pay-a-price-worsening-russia-us-relations/">President Joe Biden’s remarks that he is a killer with no soul</a> and he will pay the price for attempting to interferre in America’s elections in November and said it takes a killer to recognise another killer.
Putin in response said he knows Biden personally and he went on to say it takes one person to know the other one:

Putin Scoffs At Biden's "Killer" Remarks

Zanu PF has made it clear they hope the new USA administration that will assume duty on Wednesday will thaw the icy relationship between Harare and Washington, up to the point of even removing sanctions imposed on 84 individuals and 37 entities by the US, The Sunday News reports.
Zanu PF released a statement taking <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/17/zanu-pf-attacks-ambassador-nichols-again/">a jab at the US Ambassador Brian Nichols</a> and what they called “usual” critics and congratulated Joe Biden and said they hope he will remove sanctions against Zimbabwe.
Said part of the statement released by Zanu Pf Spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo:
<blockquote>Having pointed out those anomalies which we expect the usual detractors to self-introspect and take corrective action on, the revolutionary Party, Zanu-PF, wishes the American people and its President elect Joe Biden success on his forthcoming term of office which begins after his inauguration on 20 January 2020. Given our existing cordial relations with the USA, we look forward to the new USA administration to remove the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
Joe Biden however is one of the people who were part of the team that signed the ZIDERA Bill into effect in the early 2000s according to a letterhead that circulated on social media in November 2020.

Confident of victory, Joe Biden on Friday urged Americans to put an end to divisions and come together as one nation.
Biden was speaking in his home city of Wilmington, Delaware in a late-night address accompanied by his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris. He said:
<blockquote>We must put the anger – and the demonisation – behind us. It’s time for us to come together as a nation and heal.
My responsibility as president will be to represent the whole nation.
I want everyone to know that on Day One, we are going to put our plan to control this virus into action.</blockquote>
During his address, Biden repeated that he believed he would win but said he would wait for the process to complete as incumbent Donald Trump warned him not to declare victory.
Biden, who was Barack Obama’s deputy, is now leading in Pennsylvania, a key battleground State with 20 votes in the Electoral College.
By late Friday Biden had an advantage of almost 29,000 votes over Trump, although that was still within the narrow margin that would likely trigger a recount.

Zwelibanzi Moyo-Williams spoke about the event and said she was invited the day before the event and they rented a car and drove all night to Nashvile to attend the debate since they live in North Carolina.
Said Zwelibanzi:

Moyo Williams also spoke about her restaurant Zweli’s Kitchen and said:

Joe Biden Invites A Zimbabwean To Be His Final Debate Guest

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his running mate, making the California senator the first Black and South Asian American woman to run on a major political party’s presidential ticket. Biden wrote in an email Tuesday:
<blockquote>I’ve decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021.</blockquote>
Responding to her nomination as Biden’s vice presidential candidate, Harris posted on Twitter:
<blockquote>Joe Biden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals.
I’m honoured to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief.</blockquote>
Harris was one of nearly two dozen presidential candidates who challenged Biden for the 2020 Democratic nomination.
Harris (55), was born in California to a Jamaican-born father and an Indian American mother.
Biden and Harris are set to appear together for the first time for a speech Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware.
The term “running mate” is used in countries in which the offices of President and Vice President are both directly elected on the same ticket, in reference to a prospective Vice President.
In December last year, the Zimbabwean Cabinet (the executive branch of Government), approved the Constitutional Amendment Bill of 2019 which will allow the President-elect to appoint two Vice Presidents while removing the provision of running mates.
The running mate clause was removed from the 2013 Constitution ostensibly because it is an “American concept” that can potentially cause a political crisis by creating two centres of power.
Malawi is one of the few countries on the African continent that has adopted the “running mate” system.
