Former Warriors coach Norman Mapeza defended his conduct and management style during the Four Nations tournament in Malawi last month.
This comes after the FC Platinum coach was accused of poor player management and “military” training routines during the Malawi tournament.
The ZIFA Normalisation Committee appointed Mapeza as the Warriors coach for the tournament which also featured the hosts Malawi, Zambia and Kenya.
The four nations used the tournament to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers to be played in June.
Yesterday, a report claimed that Itay-based wing-back Jordan Zemura had threatened to withdraw from future Warriors call-ups as long as Mapeza “does not change his treatment of England-born players and his player management style’’.
Zemura himself did not make the remarks but they were attributed to a source within his camp.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/mapeza-reacts-to-zemura-attacks/">The Herald</a> about the issue, Mapeza expressed surprise over the accusations, saying Zemura may have been unhappy for getting limited game time at the tournament. He said:

Maybe the problem was that he didn’t play as much as he would have liked. I told him Jordan you have changed a little bit in terms of your attitude. Last year you were pushing, you wanted to play, what is going on?
That’s what I asked him and he said no coach I am fine but I will sort it out. That’s what I spoke to him about. I am a coach and I can see when a player is having challenges.

Mapeza also explained why he substituted Zemura against Zambia and his decision to leave him out of the final against Kenya. He said:

I had seen him and I wanted someone who is more like a midfielder. The formation we were playing didn’t have natural wingers.
He plays left-back most of the time, like the other game that I saw him playing against Inter-Milan.
I talk to everybody. I told him I want you to play here and he said it’s okay coach. Then I substituted him. So does he mean he didn’t want to be substituted? Is he now a Maradona?
That’s the problem at the end of the day. To be honest with you, I respect football players but I believe football is all about teamwork.
It’s not about an individual. It’s not about Zemura, Marshall Munetsi, or Knowledge Musona. It’s about collective effort. That he did not play the second game was more tactical than anything else.

Mapeza also disputed comments attributed to Zemura, that his training methods were too physical leaving players with no recovery plan for the next match-day. He said:

How are my training methods military style when I have only been with these guys a few days?
Zemura and the other foreign-based guys arrived on a Tuesday night and we trained once on Wednesday in the morning.
Then in the afternoon, everyone went to watch the Zimbabwe Under-20 match against Malawi Under-20. We trained twice on Thursday and once on Friday.
On Saturday we played against Zambia. That was that. You can ask Captain Marshall Munetsi and any other player who was there. So, was that military training?
Since we were going to have a game on Friday, we had tactical drills to demonstrate how we were going to play.
Afterwards, we did video analyses of the previous games; we made corrections and that’s what we were doing. There wasn’t much, I think, and someone claims military training.

Mapeza said players must adhere to the national coach’s training methods during their time in the Warriors camp, recognizing that these approaches differ from those employed by their respective clubs. He said:

Maybe these guys have their certain way of doing things at their clubs. But I can’t follow the programme of his coach in Italy.
This is a national team and we have only two to three days and I do what I feel is going to be good for these guys. Why only he and all the other players have not complained?
You can ask any player; we just did the normal training sessions.
We gave them off the other day. I have my programme as a coach the other day we were invited to a tree-planting day and I asked them that we have breakfast at 7 AM since the tree-planting programme was at 9 AM.
They should understand because we had a programme given to us by the tournament organisers.

Mapeza Responds To Jordan Zemura

Udinese Calcio fullback Jordan Zemura has reportedly vowed to never accept national team call-ups if Norman Mapeza remains the Warriors coach.
Mapeza, who was appointed Warriors caretaker coach in March, is accused of subjecting players to “military-style” physical sessions at the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi.
A source within the Zemura camp, who preferred anonymity, was cited as saying the “British Brigade” left Malawi feeling unwanted. Said the source, as quoted by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/zemura-drops-bombshell-questions-mapezas-style/">H-Metro</a>:

Jordan is no longer coming for any future Zimbabwe national team matches as long as Mapeza is the coach. He will be unavailable.
There is a fierce war from the coach to frustrate the Europe-born-and-bred players and Zemura has decided to stand up against that.
This is something he has kept close to his chest because he is a patient and quiet guy but he can’t keep on putting a lid on something that has serious repercussions on national sport.
The Malawi treatment was enough for him to make a decision.
These boys network very much. They exchange notes and experiences. The country risks losing out on potential future national team players if this is not looked into.
Jordan is not about football politics and he regards Mapeza highly although he has serious reservations about his management style.

Jordan Zemura Wants Mapeza Out Of Warriors Job | Report

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Jordan_Zemura">Jordan Zemura</a> has made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean footballer to score a goal in Serie A (Italy’s top-flight football league).
The Udinese defender’s rasping shot flew into the top corner in the 14th minute in the 1-1 draw against Cagliari on Saturday.
Zemura is already the first Zimbabwean to play in Serie A following his move from English Premier League side, Bournemouth in 2023.
Zemura was born in England. He is the firstborn of Sharon and Seymour, who emigrated to the UK from Zimbabwe shortly before he was born in 1999.
The 24-year-old joined the Udinese on a free transfer from Bournemouth and signed a long-term deal effective 01 July 2023 to 30 June 2027.
He played two matches for Zimbabwe at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals held in Cameroon and featured in the 1-2 loss to Malawi and 2-1 victory over Guinea.

Zemura Makes Serie A History

Udinese coach Andrea Sottil has said Jordan Zemura can be difficult to mark for opposition defenders when deployed as an inverted right-back.
This comes after the left-footed Zimbabwe international impressed playing on the right side of defence in their 2–0 preseason friendly win against Cypriot league side Pafos.
The shift was necessitated by the absence of Kingsley Ehizibue, who is nursing a long-term injury.
Speaking after the match, Sottil told the <a href="https://www.udinese.it/news/squadra/udinese-pafos-sottil-dobbiamo-avere-la-nostra-identita">Udinese’s official website</a> that he was impressed by Zemura’s performance. He said:

Zemura arrived to play on the left, today I tried him on the right and I think he did well.
With the foot reversed it can be very annoying for the opposing defences.

It was Zemura’s second preseason match for his new side after he made the starting lineup in the 5–1 win over Austrian lower league side ASK Klagenfurt on 19 July.
Zemura joined the Serie A club this month on a four-year contract after leaving AFC Bournemouth at the end of his contract in June.
The transfer followed after he signed a pre-contract agreement with the Italian side in March.

Jordan Zemura Effective As An Inverted Full-back - Udinese Coach

Jordan Zemura is relishing the opportunity to compete at the highest level and against star players in Serie A following his recent move to Italian topflight side Udinese.
The 23-year-old England-born Warriors player joined Udinese on a free transfer late last season after his contract with English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth expired.
In an interview with Udinese’s official website, Zemura said the move was an opportunity for him to get out of his comfort zone in England. He said:

Joining this fantastic club means a lot: playing against players in a difficult league, getting out of my comfort zone, in England, where I have lived all my life, to move to Italy, and obviously being able to learn the language and culture of Udine has been a great experience.

Warrior’s wing-back <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Jordan_Zemura">Jordan Zemura</a> said he spent much of his time playing video games and spending more time with his family during FIFA international windows when Zimbabwe was suspended by the world football governing body.
The 23-year-old Udinese player said he was worried that the suspension could go for five years or more. <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/time-to-refocus-zemura-reveals-high-expectations-on-international-football/">He said</a>:

I used to play video games and of course, spent most of my time with my family so I couldn’t get to think much about it (the suspension).
You know a football career is very short. I was thinking what if the suspension goes on for five or so years? My mind was spinning.
I really want to represent my country and defend the badge so it was a very painful experience knowing you could have gotten the chance to play for your country but you couldn’t.
It is something that affected not only me but hundreds of other players. I love my country first and foremost.
And to be unable to represent them was the most painful thing that I have had to endure in my short football career.

Zemura said despite his disappointment over the Warriors’ failure to participate in the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations to be held in Cote d’Ivoire next year due to the FIFA suspension, he was excited that the ban has been lifted. He said:

Warriors utility player Jordan Zemura has expressed gratitude to AFC Bournemouth and the club’s fans as he prepares to make his move to Italy.
In April, Italian club Udinese Calcio, commonly referred to as Udinese announced the signing of Zemura.
The 23-year-old became the first Zimbabwean to join a Serie A club after signing a long-term deal with Udinese effective 01 July 2023 to 30 June 2027.
Zemura took to social media to thank the Cherries for the time he spent with them since joining as a 19-year-old. He wrote:

Bournemouth coach Garry O’Neil says he has no bad feelings towards Jordan Zemura after the Zimbabwean international rejected an improved contract in order to join Italian Serie A club Udinese on a free transfer.
Zemura (23), signed a four-year deal after refusing to extend his stay at the Cherries beyond this season.
The club responded by freezing him out of the senior squad and sending him to train with the development squad.
Asked if he feels let down by Zemura for the way his departure has transpired, Cherries head coach O’Neil told the <a href="https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/23456884.gary-oneil-jordan-zemuras-decision-leave-afc-bournemouth/">Daily Echo</a>:

The 23-year-old defender rejected a reported £25 000 per week, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season.
United Kingdom sports website, Talksport, reported that Zemura has held talks with teams from outside England. It said:

Spotrac, which is the largest sports system for team payrolls, last year reported that Zemura was one of the lowest-paid in the English Premier League on a weekly wage of just £385.

Ahead of today’s trip to Aston Villa, Bournemouth coach Gary O’Neil insists Jordan Zemura remains in his thoughts regarding team selection but added the club has “three very capable left-backs.” He said:

My job at the moment, I don’t get involved at all in contract situations, just purely on team selection.

Bournemouth have long been trying to tie Zemura down to a longer-term contract, but no agreement has been reached, with other Premier League clubs believed to be interested in signing his services.

Chelsea defender Reece James suffered a knee during the blues’ 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday.
James was withdrawn in the 53rd minute of his first game since his return from the knee injury that ruled him out of England’s World Cup squad. Chelsea coach Graham Potter said:

EPL: James Reece Suffers Knee Injury Again As Chelsea Beat Bournemouth

England-based Warriors utility player, Jordan Zemura, said that he hopes Zimbabwe will qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The tournament will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America.
Speaking during an interview with The Daily Echo on Wednesday about the hopes of the African nations at the current FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the AFC Bournemouth defender said:

Zimbabwean left wing-back Jordan Zemura said he was “blessed” to make his Premier League debut and expressed gratitude to those who have helped him in his journey to the top tier of English football.
Zemura played the full 90 minutes as AFC Bournemouth defeated Aston Villa on the opening day of the 2022/23 season, with goals from Jefferson Lerma and Kieffer Moore giving the hosts a 2-0 win.
Speaking to the Daily Echo after the game, the 22-year-old Lambeth-born defender said:

Warriors and AFC Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura is reportedly one of the lowest-paid players in the English Premier League.
Zemura (22) joined the Bournemouth Academy from Charlton Athletic in 2019 and signed a £385 per week deal.
The contract was extended to June 2023 back in March, making him one of the lowest-paid players in England’s topflight.
Soccer24 reported a source as saying Zemura’s close friend and teammate Jaidon Anthony has a similar contract but the duo is not in a rush to have new deals. Said the source:

Warriors left-back Jordan Zemura will be playing in the English Premier League next season after his AFC Bournemouth side was promoted to the top flight on Tuesday night.
The Cherries earned automatic promotion from the English Championship to the English Premier League following their 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
Zemura played a crucial role in the goal after he won a free‑kick near the 18-yard line.
Kieffer Moore scored the only goal of the match after Philip Billing passed the ball to him instead of tacking a crack on goal from the free-kick.
Bournemouth are guaranteed the second spot on the Championship log which gave them, and Fulham, who are in pole position, automatic promotion to the EPL.
With only one round of fixtures left before the end of the Championship season (excluding play-offs), Fulham are leading the pack with 90 points, Bournemouth are second on 85 points, and Nottingham Forest occupy the third spot with 79 points.
Speaking after the match, Bournemouth manager Scott Parker said he was proud of his charges. He said:

Warriors midfielder Jordan Zemura has extended his contract with AFC Bournemouth until June 2023.
Zemura is among three other talented young players who penned contract extensions with the Cherries, who are currently placed second on the Championship log.
Striker Christian Saydee (19) and defender Zeno Ibsen Rossi (21) have both signed new contracts at Vitality Stadium until June 2023 and June 2024 respectively.
The club also took up the option to extend the contracts of both Jaidon Anthony and Zemura until June 2023.
Anthony and Zemura have made 58 appearances and scored ten goals between them during their first full season in the first team.

Warriors utility player Jordan Zemura has called on supporters not to give up on the team after they crashed out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon.
Zimbabwe became the first country to be eliminated from the competition following two defeats to Senegal (0-1) and Malawi (1-2) in Group B.
The Warriors take on Guinea in their final Group B match in Yaoundé on 18 January but will finish bottom of the group whatever the outcome.
Speaking after their first training session after the loss to Malawi, Zemura urged the nation to continue supporting the Warriors. He said:

Warriors and Bournemouth utility player Jordan Zemura has finally joined the squad in Cameroon ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Malawi tomorrow, a game he said they have to win “at all costs.”.
The 22-year-old arrived in Cameroon on Tuesday night and was received and accompanied from Yaounde to Bafoussam by Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) technical director, Wilson Mutekede.
Zemura trained with the rest of the squad from 5 PM on Wednesday despite enduring a five-hour road trip from the capital, Yaounde to Boufassam, where the Warriors are based. Said Zemura:

Jordan Zemura Named Among Young Talents To Watch In England

AFC Bournemouth wing-back Jordan Zemura has expressed his desire to become a key part of the Warriors set-up, as the team return to action in this month’s World Cup qualifiers.
The 21-year-old made his Zimbabwe debut in November last year during an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against reigning African champions Algeria.
Zemura, who was born in London to Zimbabwean parents, told BBC Sport Africa that he wants to “be the main man”. He said:

Zemura has played for the Warriors four times and been in fine form for Bournemouth in the Championship, scoring three goals in 15 games.

Zemura was deployed as a left-sided midfielder in the only two games he has played in Warriors colours – the back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Algeria last year. Then, the Warriors were under the tutelage of axed Croatian gaffer Zdravko Logarusic. 
Mapeza is set to preside over the squad starting with the weekend’s game, having been appointed on an interim basis, and the FC Platinum coach has revealed he will have to consult Zemura on which position he feels he can excel. Said Mapeza:

So good has been Zemura in Scott Parker’s pace-setters he was voted the best player for the Cherries for the month of August.

AFC Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura is enthused with the calibre of players at Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic’s disposal ahead of the 2021 AFCON qualifier against Algeria in Algiers tomorrow.
The full-back, who sat at out the Warriors’ one-hour training session yesterday afternoon due to a slight knock, told reporters in the capital Harare that he feels comfortable and relaxed. He said:

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic’s 24-men provisional squad for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria next month has been leaked to the media, with Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura a surprise inclusion.
The 21-year-old has confirmed his availability though the squad remains subject to changes as some players are still facing travel restrictions from their respective bases.

Bournemouth Defender For Warriors, Leaked Provisional Squad Reveals

English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth have handed a new contract to Zimbabwean defender Jordan Zemura.
The 20-year old who plays for the club’s U21 team signed a one-year contract extension along with other fifteen academy players.
Speaking to the club’s website about the contract extensions, U21 coach Shaun Cooper said:
<blockquote>The players we have kept and the ones who have progressed from the under-18s all have the potential to impact the first team further down the line.
We wouldn’t have taken any of them if we didn’t feel they had the opportunity to progress. But, of course, everybody’s development moves at a different speed.</blockquote>
Zemura has trained with Eddie Howe’s first-team squad and came off the bench during the 3-0 win over Lyon in a pre-season friendly at Vitality Stadium in August 2019.
