The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) says that heavy rains are expected in most parts of the country starting on Wednesday, 13 February extending to Saturday, 16 February.
Some areas are expected to receive rainfall in excess of 50 millimetres in just 24 hours.
A statement released by the MSD says:
<blockquote>In some places. Of note, however, on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 February, parts of Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Masvingo Provinces, as well as southern areas of Midlands Province are forecast to receive heavier rains in excess of 50mm in 24 hours.
Thereafter, the rains should steadily ease off giving way to bright and showery conditions in most areas, and localized heavier falls in places.
Where possible, move from such areas. Try to avoid being caught outdoors or on the road during heavy storms, more so at night when flood dangers are more difficult to perceive.
The Department will continue monitoring the conditions and update the public accordingly. The public is also being requested to provide feedback or information on disasters.</blockquote>

Met Department Forecasts Heavy Rainfall From 13 to 16 February

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of violent thunderstorms in provinces such as Manicaland, Matabeleland North and Mashonaland starting today.
The statement reads:
<blockquote>As such tomorrow (today), Thursday 11 January, in provinces such as Matabeleland North, parts of Midlands, all three Mashonaland provinces and also Manicaland, it should be cloudy with thunderstorms.</blockquote>
The statement also said that areas in Matabeleland South, south of Midlands and Bulawayo will be cloudy and receive patchy morning drizzle which will become mild by the afternoon. The MSD warned people in areas that are getting thunderstorms not to shelter under trees or open spaces.

In a statement released yesterday, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) warned of high temperatures today and urged the public to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.
The statement reads:
<blockquote>Accordingly, tomorrow 29 December 2017, we in as far as high temperatures are concerned, therefore, urge the public to take measures such as avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible, wearing wide brimmed hats and the use of umbrellas and more importantly monitor our daily weather bulletins.</blockquote>
MSD however said isolated showers could not be ruled out due to remnant moisture, especially in Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces.

The Meteorological Department has warned scattered violent thunderstorms that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in some parts of the country today.
In a statement the Meteorological Services Department said:
<blockquote>Advection of moisture from Botswana  and Zambia resulted in thunderstorms across much of the country with light morning rain showers. Notable falls were, however, 19mm and 11mm measured in Mount Darwin and Masvingo  respectively.
Consequently tomorrow, Friday December 15 with increased advection of moisture into the country through both Matabeleland provinces and all Mashonaland provinces should see increased cloud cover over these areas into the interior of the country.
This coupled with the sporadic sunny breaks, will lead to countrywide thunderstorms and light rain, with heavy downpours especially over high ground.</blockquote>

Met Dept Warns Of Violent Thunderstorms

In a statement yesterday, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) warned that violent thunderstorms are expected in Matabeleland provinces and other southern parts of the country today and tomorrow.
The statement reads:
<blockquote>he MSD wishes to advise the public that we expect isolated thunderstorms all over Matabeleland provinces including south of Midlands and Masvingo on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, 21 October 2017. 
A cloud band is expected to enter Zimbabwe from Angola and Botswana through Matabeleland provinces. This, coupled with pressure rises expected over the south-east coast of Southern Africa, will lead to increased convergence over the main watershed. These conditions are likely to lead to isolated thundershowers over Matabeleland provinces, including south of the Midlands and Masvingo.</blockquote>
The MSD said people must avoid open spaces during the thunderstorm.

Violent thunderstorms expected in Matabeleland provinces

In a statement released on Monday, the Meteorological Services Department predicted violent thunderstorms around the country as a result of hot temperatures. They also warned members of the public not to seek shelter under trees and open spaces.
According to the statement, Matabeleland region is expected to experience isolated thundershowers between today (Tuesday) and tomorrow. The statement reads:
<blockquote>Mindful that the month of October is usually characterised by high temperatures and noting that the atmosphere is presently unstable, any thundershowers activity at this time may be very violent (strong winds, hail and lightning). It is therefore important not to be caught in the open during the thunderstorm. Avoid sheltering under a tree or in isolated shed and more importantly monitor our daily bulletins. Moisture is expected to continue drifting into the country from Botswana. Accordingly, this convection of moisture coupled  with expected persistent hot weather forecast for tomorrow October, 3 makes the atmosphere conducive for isolated heat thunderstorms especially in Matabeleland provinces and Bulawayo Metropolitan province as well as the central watershed.</blockquote>

Met Dept predicts violent thunderstorms, warns public

In a statement released yesterday, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) warned that Zimbabwe will experience the coldest weather so far this year with temperatures expected to fall to seven degrees Celsius from yesterday to Monday.
The statement reads:
<blockquote>Please be advised that the country will be experiencing the coldest weather in 2017 to date. As a result, moderate to severe ground frost is expected in many areas this weekend. We recommend frost protection, training and awareness to be enhanced by responsible authorities. The transition period we are currently in is associated with chaotic weather. For example, while sunny skies usually imply warm weather, this time the air is cold.
We continue to urge people not to be deceived by the clear skies. Warm clothing should be kept nearby. Winter is not yet over. More equally, cold spells alternating with warm to relatively brief hot weather are forecast to be the dominant pattern until around the middle of September 2017.</blockquote>

Zim to experience coldest weather in 2017, warned winter is not yet over

The Meteorological Services Department has dismissed as baseless and false a report warning people that temperatures were going to drop to below freezing in the next few days. The message which is circulating online and on social media warns that temperatures will drop to as low as -12 degrees celsius.
In dismissing the message, Senior Meteorologist, Mr Tich Zinyemba:
<blockquote>Of course we are almost in winter season and temperatures will decrease but they will never reach sub zero limits. People must be care where they get some information from.</blockquote>

We are notifying you that there will be a strong cold current that is going to move in the Southern part of Africa predictably,it is going to start moving on Tuesday,2 May 2017.In some coastal areas,snow will be experienced.We are all urged to stay indoors because some areas will reach -12°C ,this kind of temperature is deadly which can cause the lungs to freeze and cause instant death.Put on the warmest clothes and only go out when it is necessary.

Met Department dismisses report that says temperatures will drop to -12

In a forecast yesterday the Meteorological Services Department (Met Dept) said it was normal to have rains this time of the year and explained the cause of the cold weather.
Said the Met Dept:
<blockquote>It is normal to have precipitation during this time of the year. This precipitation is due to the incursion of moisture from high pressure along the South African east coast, also residual moisture that is expected to cause some periodic clouds and isolated light rainshowers.</blockquote>
Met Dept’s head of public weather services, Tich Zinyemba, said the country should brace for an early and cold as temperatures continued to drop.

Met Dept explains cause of cold weather & rain, warns of early cold winter

The Meteorological Services Department expects rain activity to continue throughout the week although it notes that precipitation levels have decreased from as high as 223mm to 50mm in some parts of the country.
Speaking to journalists yesterday Mrs Chenai Sithole attributed the decrease in rainfall to the shift in the line of convergence further to the north, that is in Mashonaland Central and West Provinces. MSD deputy director Mrs Rebecca Manzou said the country is expected to receive rains up until March.
Meanwhile the Civil Protection Unit has issued a statement warning people to continue being alert for floods, landslides and other associated hazards since rain activity is expected to last until March.

Rains expected to continue until March

Zimbabwe’s Meteorological Services Department has issued a warning of heavy rains from Saturday 28 to Tuesday 31 January 2017.
According to the press release:
<blockquote>Generally rainfall in excess of 50mm in 24 hours is expected. Over the high ground areas along the central watershed as well as the Eastern Highlands however, rainfall in excess of 90mm in 24 hours is highly probable. This is especially more so between Saturday 28 and Monday 30 January.</blockquote>
They say that the rain is a result of a combination of the presence of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone and a frontal cloud system which entered the country through Matabeleland Provinces. Added to this combination is the heating around midday which further enhances rainfall activity.

Met office warns of heavy rains

The Meteorological Services Department (Met Dept) has said that the rains are set to slightly lessen as the country is expected to experience La Nina — a climatic condition characterised by above normal rains — in the 2016/17 season.
The Met Dept said while there are chances of above normal rainfall, the country should anticipate one drought or another. Its senior forecaster, Tich Zinyemba, said while all areas are forecast to be hot and humid with sharp downpours, it will be concentrated along the watershed and the Eastern highlands areas.
He also warned that people should stay indoors in case of heavy rain and flooding.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said that the country should be prepared for heavy rains with thunderstorms expected in northern parts of the country startting Friday 9 December to Monday 12 December.
The department said some areas would experience heavy downpours and flash floods. In <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo">Masvingo</a> and Matabeleland South provinces on the other hand, the MSD expects the areas to be largely dry and hot although it says residual moisture coupled with high daytime temperatures may cause some light rain-showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Met Office warns of heavy rains

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of heavy rains in most parts of the country with flash floods expected in Manicaland and some parts of <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Mashonaland_East_Province">Mashonaland East</a> over the weekend.
In a statement the MSD said heavy rains in excess of 50mm would affect most of Mashonaland provinces, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Manicaland_Province">Manicaland Province</a> as well as north of <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo">Masvingo Province</a> on Saturday and Sunday. Rain and thunderstorms are expected countrywide although rains expected in Manicaland Province on Sunday 27 November may cause potential flash flooding.
The Met Department also said that it will continue monitoring the conditions and update the public and it also requested the public to provide feedback or information on disasters on its various social platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp.
