The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP)’s National Executive Committee (NEC) castigated some party members who announced on Monday that they had disbanded the party organ and fired president Mqondisi Moyo as power-hungry ZANU PF agents.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, some MRP members claimed to have fired Moyo and dissolved the entire NEC for failing to lead the party and ignoring structures.
The disgruntled party members also announced that they had appointed Mbonisi Gumbo as their interim spokesperson.
Gumbo said their constitution allowed them to dissolve NEC for poor performance and that they were electing an interim leadership on 01 October this year and holding their national congress in April next year.
However, the MRP spokesperson before the “rebellion”, Velile Moyo, said Gumbo was not even in MRP structures.
Speaking to <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mqondisi-moyo-still-party-president-mrp-nec/">CITE</a>, Moyo said the NEC had been monitoring Gumbo since December 2022 when he ascribed himself status of an elder in MRP.
Moyo further claimed that Gumbo had left the party three times and on each occasion rushed to social media to settle his scores. He said:

The last time Gumbo was in MRP structures was sometime last year when he was a committee member in the NEC. He left saying the position was too junior for him given that he was a founding member.
Around January 2023, Gumbo told his accomplices that by the time Zimbabwe holds its elections in August 2023 he would have ascended to the position of MRP president.
</blockquote>
Moyo questioned how Gumbo and a few other party members who numbered 13 could dissolve the whole NEC when they “were not even a fully constituted body.”
He accused Gumbo and his colleagues of lying when they claimed that they had the backing of MRP provincial structures.
Moyo claimed that Gumbo and two other officials namely Matabeleland North Chairperson – Thembisani Mfulongashi Mpofu and party youth chairperson – Chilumbo Mudenda were working with ZANU PF to destabilise MRP. He said:

We are aware that ZANU PF gave them assurance that if NEC takes the matter to court, the courts will rule in their favour.
As such the MRP NEC leadership will not waste its time challenging such a useless matter in Zimbabwe courts. We know at the end of the day that ZANU PF would have won.

MRP NEC Says Mqondisi Moyo Is Still Party President

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) members claimed to have fired party president Mqondisi Moyo and dissolved his entire National Executive Committee (NEC), <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mthwakazi-republic-party-members-fire-president-and-dissolve-nec/">reported CITE</a>.
Moyo and the NEC were fired for allegedly neglecting duties, ignoring lower structures, and failing to lead as expected.
The members said it would be futile for Moyo to challenge their decision as it was made by local provincial members and those based abroad.
Speaking during a press conference at the Bulawayo Media Centre on Monday, self-proclaimed MRP interim spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo said the party’s constitution allowed them to dissolve the NEC. He said:

NEC failed to engage in meaningful and constructive dialogue with the lower structures in finding lasting solutions to the present crisis.
Instead of engaging in mature dialogue to resolve the matters, dissenting members are labelled state agents, spies, CIOs and all sorts of names.
Why can’t you be mature in your leadership? Now everyone is a CIO. What kind of a party are we honestly?

Gumbo said Moyo has ignored concerns raised by party members and also refused to attend meetings he was called to attend. He said:
<blockquote>
We approached Moyo and told him we were unhappy with the manner in which the party was run. He decided in his own wisdom, or lack of it, to disregard the members and PEC. Moyo decided he would not attend the meetings he was called to attend.
We asked if we could have the national executive dissolved and he remains as president then members choose their leaders from the vice president going down, and Moyo rejected that idea.
We then told him that since he rejected it, we would dissolve everyone, including him because the party is by the people, for the people and you cannot continue to disregard the members.
</blockquote>
He also accused the party leadership of failing to appeal against the conviction and sentencing of the MRP nine.
Gumbo said the NEC has failed to inform party members about the number and nature of party assets including vehicles.
MRP National Youth Chair, Chilumbo Mudenda MRP was morphing into a dictatorship which they were opposed to.

MRP Members Fire President, Mqondisi Moyo, And Dissolve National Executive Committee

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has petitioned SADC calling for the regional organisation’s involvement in its demand for the creation of an independent state (Mthwakazi) covering Matabeleland and the Midlands provinces, separate from Zimbabwe.
<a href="https://cite.org.zw/mrp-petitions-sadc-in-self-determination-push/">CITE</a> reported that MRP members, Tobias Fuyane, Chairman of Botswana South Gaborone, and Leonard Dube, Information and Publicity Secretary from the same province, delivered the petition to SADC offices on Thursday.
A letter written by MRP President Mqondisi Moyo and buttressing the call for Mthwakazi’s self-determination was attached to the petition, as well as a recently signed petition paper with 25 880 signatures.
The SADC Secretariat stamped, signed, and registered the petition under reference number 3951863. Reads the petition:

PETITION BY THE MTHWAKAZI PEOPLE FOR THE RESTORATION OF THEIR KINGDOM &amp; STATE
1. This petition is inspired by the standing resolution of the United Nations with regards to the autonomy and self-determination of all minority groups whose human rights are being denied and their dignity trampled on by their majority ethnic groups anywhere in the world.
2. We are a proud and law-abiding nation kingdom nation that was established by King Mzilikazi Khumalo bringing together many ethnic groups and creating a sense of singular nationhood amongst them, that he then called the Mthwakazi kingdom state.
3. The colonization of our state was never associated with that of Mashonaland or Zimbabwe as we were still a sovereign state at the time this region of Southern Africa was colonized in 1890. Therefore, our decolonization could not have been synchronized and associated with that of Mashonaland or Zimbabwe.
4. Our country was invaded in November 1893 by the British South African Company (BSA Co) on November 4, 1893, in defiance of the authority of Her Majesty Queen Victoria. According to the Moffatt Treaty of Peace and Unity signed on the 11 of February 1888 between Queen Victoria and King Lobengula Khumalo, Britain and Mthwakazi were allies and allies did not invade each other.
5. We are aware however that after the invasion and conquest of Mthwakazi by the BSA Co, the British crown on the other hand, granted the Royal Charter of Incorporation to the BSA Co, conferring it with all the powers of a government on all lands north of the Limpopo River. In the subsequent action that the BSA Co referred to as the “Victoria Agreement of 14 August 1893” which is the instrument by which the British Crown legalized the action of displacing the Mthwakazi nation and looting our cattle. Such action on the part of the British Crown was illegal.
6. The British Crown also legalised the continued occupation of our kingdom state illegally by proclaiming the Matabeleland Order-in-Council on the 19th of July 1894 where it was claimed that our Kingdom had been broken down and replaced by a better system. Such a declaration was racist and false.

In the letter, Moyo said there has never been a political agreement in Zimbabwe that has benefited the Ndebele people. He wrote:

Whether the 1923 amalgamation, the 1980 Zimbabwe independence, the 1987 so-called Unity Accord, have not been in our favour, but in that of Mashonaland people. The 2017 military coup worked for the Mashonaland people.
They alone were at the table negotiating exit packages for Robert Mugabe, and posts in the new government. None from among us were invited.
The Global Political Agreement that followed the disputed election outcome of 2008 didn’t involve us either.
All principals in the deal were Mashonaland people. Whatever was discussed was for the good of Mashonaland, with nothing for Mthwakazi.
</blockquote>
He appealed to SADC to also consider “the Mthwakazi Self-determination agenda” when deliberating on Zimbabwe’s disputed 2023 Harmonised Elections.

Mthwakazi Activists Petition SADC In Push For Self-determination

The secessionist opposition political party, Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), said that the preliminary report by the SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) which criticised Zimbabwe’s 2023 Harmonised Elections should not come as a surprise.
MRP leader Mqondisi Moyo said the electoral irregularities highlighted by SEOM were a feature in all elections held in Zimbabwe since the attainment of independence in 1980.
In a letter seen by <a href="https://cite.org.zw/zim-has-been-holding-unfair-elections-since-1980-mrp/">CITE</a>, addressed to SEOM Head Nevers Mumba on August 31, 2023, Moyo first congratulated the SADC team for successfully observing the 23 August Harmonised Elections in Zimbabwe. He said:

I noted from your Preliminary Statement that Zimbabwean elections fell short of meeting both SADC and Zimbabwean elections guidelines in many respects. This has been the case since 1980 when the country attained independence.
</blockquote>
Moyo, however, sought to draw SEOM’s attention to what MRP refers to as Mthwakazi, that is, the South Western part of Zimbabwe covering Matabeleland provinces and part of Midlands. He said:

But even if elections were “free and fair,” Zimbabwean politics would still remain grossly unfair to the people of Mthwakazi.
</blockquote>
In the letter, Moyo claimed that the people of “Mthwakazi” have suffered since 1893 when people in Matabeleland, which was then an independent state, were defeated by the British South Africa Company (BSAC) forces. He added:

In 1923, we suffered yet another demise, the forceful amalgamation of our country with Mashonaland. In 1980, our colonial status was transferred from Britain to Zimbabwe.
</blockquote>
Moyo said people in Matabeleland endured a Zimbabwean government-led “genocide” in reference to the Gukurahundi killings between 1982 and 1987. He said:

About 40 000 of our people perished. It is sad that SADC didn’t bother to pay any attention to what was happening in Mthwakazi.
That was despite its role of ensuring the safety of people in Southern Africa.
</blockquote>
Moyo implored SADC to intervene and facilitate the creation of a new State covering Matabeleland and parts of Midlands provinces, separate from Zimbabwe.

Mthwakazi Activist Commends SADC Election Observers

The opposition Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has pleaded with the European Union Observer Mission to the 23 August elections to help it establish an independent Mthwakazi State, separate from Zimbabwe.
Early this year, MRP petitioned several institutions, among them the EU, as it sought 20 000 signatures of people from the Matabeleland region in a bid to push for Mthwakazi State “restoration”.
MRP president Mqondisi Moyo directed part of his speech during a rally at Bulawayo’s Stanley Square last week to the EU observers who attended the rally, asking them to assist Mthwakazi attain self-rule. Said Moyo:

This petition is inspired by the standing resolution of the UN (United Nations) with regard to the autonomy and self-determination of all minority groups whose human rights are being denied and their dignity trampled on by their majority ethnic groups anywhere in the world.
We are a proud and law-abiding nation that was established by King Mzilikazi Khumalo bringing together many ethnic groups and creating a sense of singular nationhood among them, called Mthwakazi Kingdom State.

He said before the merging of Matabeleland and Mashonaland to create present-day Zimbabwe, there existed a Mthwakazi State.
Moyo said the colonisation of Mthwakazi in the late 19th century was separate from Mashonaland or Zimbabwe because it was still a sovereign State when the latter was colonised.
He told EU observers that the British Crown also legalised the continued occupation of Mthwakazi illegally by proclaiming the Matabeleland Order-in-Council on July 19, 1894. The MRP leader said:

In 1980, using the same Order-in-Council, the British Crown and government decolonised Mashonaland to create the Republic of Zimbabwe, and simultaneously transferred to them the mandate to rule Mthwakazi by conquest to a black majority supremacy regime.
When this regime came into power in 1980 within two years it started to train an army to kill unarmed civilians in Mthwakazi without any provocation or declaration of war, by creating the so-called “dissidents problem”.
The number of people killed was officially reported to be at least 20 000 civilians.

Moyo said Mthwakazi had suffered 130 years of occupation, dehumanisation and oppression.

MRP Courts EU Over Mthwakazi State "Restoration"

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) Mqondisi Moyo has criticised former cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere following his promise to have a US$1 billion budget for Gukurahundi.
Moyo said Kasukuwere must give that money to people from Mashonaland Province and leave Matabeleland people alone. <a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-national-byo-233147.html">Bulawayo24</a> quoted Moyo as saying:
<blockquote>
It is disheartening to learn that Mashonaland people think that they can take us for a ride. They reduce us to cry babies who are driven to sleep by a lullaby.
They think we are like stupid fish who can be lured by dangling a lifeless object as bait.
Kasukuwere is typical of Mashonaland folks who daydream of riding on our backs.
He is dangling US$1 billion, dubbing it as Gukurahundi Compensation Fund. Stupid! Who said we want money as compensation?
Did he, through his parents and Shona relatives murder our people so they could make such a foolish monetary promise?
Does he think that the almost 40 000 souls of Mthwakazi people who perished in the hands of the Fifth Brigade can be redeemed by money and the so-called development projects?
</blockquote>
Moyo added that people from Matabeleland are treated as second-class citizens in their own land. He said:
<blockquote>
You cannot talk of monetary compensation when the Genocide is still on. The Shona language that was spoken by the members of the fifth brigade, CIOs, and members of the Police Intelligence Services, continues to be the suppressive and oppressive language against our people.
We are being arrested by Shona police, the magistrate courts and the Bulawayo High Court is presided over by the Shona magistrates and Judges, the prison officers are Shonas.
If to you all this is not Gukurahundi Genocide in another form then I need to be examined mentally.
Remember your rule book which is the Shona Grandplan plan and its review 14-page document clearly states that in all the parts of Mthwakazi and Zimbabwe Shona is to be the official Language.
It clearly states that all government offices and departments in Mthwakazi should be manned by Shona people.
All the 11 Shona presidential Candidates for 23 August 2023 are the result of the Gukurahundi Genocide you claim you want to compensate for.

Meanwhile, High Court judge Justice David Mangota on Wednesday, 12 July nullified Kasukuwere’s nomination as a presidential candidate.
The court said Kasukuwere was out of the country for over 18 months and therefore ceased to be a registered voter.

Mthwakazi Activist Says Kasukuwere Should Keep "Gukurahundi US$1 Billion Budget" For Shona People

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Mthwakazi_Republic_Party">Mthwakazi Republic Party</a> (MRP) leader <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Mqondisi_Moyo" title="Mqondisi Moyo">Mqondisi Moyo</a> has castigated a ZANU PF-affiliated group, Masvikiro4ED, for making a banner that portrayed Ndebele kings Mzilikazi and Lobengula as spirit mediums.
Masvikiro4ED placed images of the two pre-colonial Ndebele kings beside Shona religious figures Sekuru Kaguvi and Mbuya Nehanda in a banner with inscriptions “Amadlozi Elizwe, Spirit Mediums For ED”.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/lobengulas-image-in-masvikiro4ed-banner-angers-mthwakazi/">ZimLive</a>, Moyo criticised President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Masvikiro4ED for allegedly misrepresenting historical facts. Said Moyo:

Kings Mzilikazi and Lobengula are revered among the Mthwakazi people.
Reducing them to being associated with Mnangagwa is an insult of the highest order. Mnangagwa’s Amadlozi (ancestors) are Kaguvi and Nehanda, the spirit mediums.
Mnangagwa cannot, and no one can claim for him, a spiritual relationship with Mzilikazi and Lobengula.
I urge the people who made the banner and Mnangagwa himself to shun reducing our departed heroes to nonentities.
Kings Mzilikazi and Lobengula were not spirit mediums. They were real, true fighters.
They were physical military men, commanders who physically trained armies that challenged colonialism in an unprecedented manner.
Hands off our ancestors. They are sacred.

Founded in 2014, MRP has been described as both secessionist and restorationist, seeking to restore the <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Mthwakazi" title="Mthwakazi">Mthwakazi</a> kingdom.
The party advocates for the creation of a separate Ndebele state which it claims initially lost its independence in 1893 to the British South African Company.

King Lobengula’s Image In Masvikiro4ED Banner Angers Mthwakazi Activist

Self-exiled former ZANU PF Politburo member Saviour Kasukuwere reportedly offered Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) leader Mqondisi Moyo the post of deputy, while he was to be a president.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mrp-leader-warns-against-celebrating-kasukuweres-return/">CITE</a>, Moyo claimed that Kasukuwere once sent emissaries to him in South Africa in 2019 asking that they work together. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>
I can’t recall the exact date but it was between September and December when Kasukuwere, who was also in South Africa sent emissaries to me because he wanted me to work with him and be his vice president.
The emissaries were Ndebele people, two of them were Msipa brothers and I knew one of them from our time together in ZAPU. So I think he might have told Kasukuwere that he knows me.
This Msipa fellow had a printing shop in Bulawayo and when we were in ZAPU, we once printed ZAPU t-shirts at his shop and when we met, he joked that ZAPU still owes him some money from that printing.
</blockquote>
Moyo further claimed that the emissaries told him that Kasukuwere was taking over ZANU PF. He said:
<blockquote>
They said Kasukuwere wants to form a party, where I was to be his deputy so that he wins the hearts of the people of Matabeleland.
I thanked them for their acknowledgement that Kasukuwere knew of my existence as Mqondisi Moyo and of MRP but in return I asked them when did Kasukuwere retire from being a Central Intelligence Operative because once one – always one.

Moyo claimed he rejected the offer despite the emissaries telling him that Kasukuwere had money. He said:
<blockquote>
I pointed out that when Kasukuwere was Minister of Youth in 2013, he was given US$10 million for the 10 provinces, with each to get one million.
The money was given to CABS and CBZ. We strongly encouraged youth under 35 in Matabeleland to apply for those loans and even assisted some.
Guess what, out of all the youth we assisted to apply, no one received a loan.
AS MRP we discovered that youth from other places applied for the money pretending to be locals.
I refused their offer and told them if a child was born under ZANU, most probably the child will behave like most ZANU PF people, which was my way of telling them that I don’t trust anyone from ZANU PF.
I said I was not in this for money and as long as I see that you have disadvantaged Matabeleland, I am better off without money.

Moyo said Kasukuwere’s emissaries went and “never brought back a reply”.
He urged Zimbabweans to be careful of who they vote for in their desperation for change.

"Kasukuwere Offered Vice President Post To Mthwakazi Republic Party Leader"

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) says it is targetting to gain full control of the Matabeleland region after this year’s elections, reported the <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/news/article/200009704/mrp-targets-full-control-of-matabeleland">Southern Eye</a>.
Speaking at a campaign rally at Nketa Hall in Bulawayo over the weekend, the MRP president said Mthwakazi is not a tribe but a nation. He said:
<blockquote>
This is part of what makes us different from ZAPU and other political parties which have been formed in Matabeleland.
We don’t seek to be countrywide like ZANU PF which calls itself Zimbabwe this and Zimbabwe that. In truth, we are only focusing on Matabeleland.
Our confinement within the Mthwakazi territory has led some people to think that we are a merely regional, tribal party.
If we were tribal, then all parties are tribal because they draw their membership from tribes.
Mthwakazi is a nation that harmoniously brings together a multiplicity of tribes, 13 of them.
Parties like ZANU PF paint themselves as national, but they are the ones that are tribal.
If ZANU PF was not tribal as it claims, why did it target Ndebele and all Mthwakazi people during Gukurahundi?
Why were the Shona people who were residents in Matabeleland and Midlands spared by the Fifth Brigade?
Why were ZAPU supporters of Shona origin in Mashonaland West, Manicaland and other Mashonaland areas which were ZAPU strongholds spared from the killings?
</blockquote>
Moyo said Zimbabwe’s governance system is designed to favour the Shona people and disadvantage Ndebeles and other tribes based in Matabeleland. He said:
<blockquote>
The system works only in favour of Mashonaland people. Mthwakazi people have to travel to Harare just for minor issues. Everything is dealt with in Harare, why?
Are there no government offices in Bulawayo, Gwanda, Filabusi, Binga, Hwange, Beitbridge, Tsholotsho, Matobo, Plumtree, Nkayi, Lupane, Gwelo (Gweru) and in other towns and cities?
Centralisation is one of the mechanisms by which Mthwakazi people are harassed.
</blockquote>
MRP has been described as both secessionist and restorationist, seeking to restore the Mthwakazi kingdom.
According to Moyo, the Mthwakazi kingdom is made up of Aba-Thwa, San, Asians , Chewa , Nyanja, coloureds, BaKalanga, Karanga of Mthwakazi , Nambya , Nguni , Shangwe , Dhombe Sotho, Tonga , Tswana, BaVenda, BaLemba, BaSankwe , BaHlengwe, White African and Xhosa tribes.

MRP President Targets Full Control Of Matabeleland Region

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) cancelled its planned march to deliver a petition to Mhlahlandlela Government Complex in Bulawayo on Friday after the police ordered the party to send not more than five representatives.
MRP intended to march to Mhlahlandlela to present its petition on the status of education in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, and a part of the Midlands.
The secessionist party claims the poor pass rate in schools in the region is partly attributable to the deployment of teachers who are unable to communicate in local indigenous languages.
MRP leader Mqondisi Moyo told CITE’s <a href="https://cite.org.zw/author/lulu-brenda-harris/">Lulu Brenda Harris</a> that they decided to cancel the march and re-strategise after the police order. He said:
<blockquote>
Police delayed in releasing the clearance and they said our march will be restricted to five people if it was a peaceful demonstration.
We then thought no, we will re-strategise because we saw ZANU PF at Tredgold last week, singing, inciting public violence and causing disorder.
This is why our youth team is strategising for next week, we refuse to be given a number of five people, which is a restriction.

Moyo said MRP will push the government to address the matter and will not hesitate to ensure that the schools are closed if it ever comes to that. He said:
<blockquote>
What we have since discovered in all these schools, particularly in Matabeleland North is that there are non-local speaking teachers.
So our petition is a guide to encourage communities to push, stand up for their rights and demand that their children be taught by teachers who can speak their mother language.
How can the government deploy non-local language-speaking teachers to teach children, including at the ECD level?
This makes us believe that the government wants to deprive Matabeleland of education, so that marginalisation continues.
As a party, we are doing all that is within our means to make sure this is addressed and if it means schools must close, they will close.

In Lupane in 2016, MRP members including villagers and the school development committee (SDC) chairman were arrested for pushing for the removal of a non-Ndebele-speaking headmistress, Millet Bonyonge, from Mlamuli Secondary School.

The opposition Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has claimed that one of its members Wilson Mathe and his wife Nomatter Dube were assaulted by 10 ZANU PF activists at the couple’s homestead in Nyezi village, Ward 9, Insiza South.
The alleged attack occurred on Thursday last week.
MRP president Mqondisi Moyo on Monday told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local-news/article/200003566/mrp-official-wife-survive-mob-attack">Southern Eye</a> that the assailants accused Mathe and his wife of introducing MRP politics in the area dominated by ZANU PF. Said Moyo:

The 10 attackers were armed with knobkerries, sjamboks, and axes. They attacked the couple accusing it of bringing MRP politics to the ward. They stated that they are ZANU PF members.
All 10 ZANU PF members are from the same area. A few days ago, they smashed window panes at Mathe’s house. They used sticks and sjamboks to beat up Mathe and his wife.
We sent a rescue team from Bulawayo which arrived on November 10 and found Mathe and his wife in a bad condition.
The victims were ferried to Filabusi Police Station to report the matter. They were also taken to Filabusi Hospital for treatment.

Mathe is the MRP treasurer for Nyezi. He contested the 2018 council elections.
Moyo said police arrested two of the suspects last Thursday.
ZRP acting spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province Assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo said he had not yet received a report on the issue.

MRP Official, Wife Attacked By Mob

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) leader Mqondisi Moyo has castigated the language used in crafting the chiefs’ manual on Gukurahundi Community Engagement Processes claiming that the words used downplayed victims’ experiences of the mass killings.
The chiefs created Volume 2 of the Manual on Community Engagement Processes to use as guidance when engaging Gukurahundi victims.
Speaking to <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mrp-tears-into-chiefs-gukurahundi-manual/">CITE</a>, Moyo questioned why the manual seen in Section 17 dealing with “Groups requiring special attention” used the phrase “alleged” in dealing with their comments.
He argued that the use of the term “alleged” suggests that the chiefs are in doubt that heinous crimes such as rape, torture, and extra-judicial killings ever happened. Said Moyo:

The Manual identifies specific groups of people to be interviewed as ‘alleged’ rape victims, ‘alleged’ sodomy victims, ‘alleged’ torture victims, and ex-combatants.
Why should the Manual emphasise the term ‘alleged?’
Does it mean that the government and the National Council of Chiefs are in doubt that these crimes were committed, hence ‘alleged’?
To them, is it yet to be proved that people were tortured, that people were raped? Shame on the authors of the Manual which was endorsed by the government.
</blockquote>
He also questioned why the vast majority of Ndebele people were left off the list of victims to be consulted when, according to him, Gukurahundi targetted all Ndebele people. Moyo said:

The derogatory language of the Fifth Brigade and the government was directed at all Ndebele people.
The word ‘cockroaches’ applied to all Ndebeles, physically tortured or not. That all Ndebeles, including the unborn, were labelled as dissidents making all Ndebeles victims of the genocide.
It follows that everyone who was there has to participate in the engagement exercise.
All Mthwakazi people are victims of Gukurahundi. They all underwent emotional torture.
Government and its National Council of Chiefs cannot expect people to be emotionally stable when they witnessed their own parents, children, siblings, relatives, and neighbours being raped, tortured, maimed, and killed.

Gukurahundi is a term used to refer to disturbances in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Matabeleland" title="Matabeleland">Matabeleland</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Midlands" title="Midlands">Midlands</a> in the 1980s which resulted in the death of an estimated 20 000 <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ndebele" title="Ndebele">Ndebele</a> people.
It was carried out by the North Korean-trained <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/5th_Brigade" title="5th Brigade">5th Brigade</a> which was an elite regiment of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Defence_Forces" title="Zimbabwe Defence Forces">Zimbabwe Defence Forces</a>. 
Gukurahundi is derived from a Shona language term that loosely translates to “the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains”.

MRP Criticises Chief’s Gukurahundi Manual

Former Bulawayo deputy mayor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tinashe_Kambarami">Tinashe Kambarami</a> has written to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mthwakazi_Republic_Party">Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP)</a> demanding US$500 000 compensation, an apology and a retraction of a “defamatory” statement.
Kambarami accuses MRP of describing him as a “Shona vulture” which had brought Bulawayo to its knees.
Through his lawyers, Masamvu and Da Silva-Gustavo, Kambarami who was recently reinstated as ward 3 councillor after the courts ruled in his favour, wrote a letter dated August 24, stating that he was aggrieved by the messages that MRP circulated on August 21, on its Facebook page. On Sunday August 21, 2022, through your Facebook page styled ‘Mthwakazi Republic Party — MRP Network — Information, you falsely and unlawfully accused our client in a widely published post of, inter alia, conniving with the chamber secretary for the City of Bulawayo to bring Bulawayo to its knees.
In the context of the post, this defamatory allegation was exacerbated by the shocking insinuation that our client is a “Shona vulture” and is a conduit of the Shona 1979 grand plan and the code xxx by Citizens Coalition for Change which outlines measures to Shonalise Bulawayo’
The allegations are also, to your knowledge, false. Your false publication is compounded by the fact that through releasing it on a public platform, you knew full well that the contents thereof would be widely read and/or shared given our client’s high public profile.
Please ensure that this written undertaking is received by us within 24 hours of your receiving this letter; failing which our client reserves the right to acquaint yourselves with the diverse legal proceedings.
While a public apology and retraction will go some way towards ameliorating the hurt and the assault on our client’s reputation and his dignity, our client also requires financial compensation in the form of damages. To this end, our instructions are to demand from you, as we hereby do, payment of the sum of US$500 000 within ten (10) days of your receipt of this letter. Should this sum not be paid within the time prescribed, we have instructions to institute legal proceedings against you without further notice to you, except as required by law.

The lawyers noted that the allegations were defamatory, hurtful, and deliberately intended to humiliate Kambarami as well as tarnish and undermine his reputation.
Kambarami notes that MRP’s statement was shared on various Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp pages with over 500 platforms, which warrants an immediate apology and retraction.

EX-Bulawayo Deputy Mayor Demands US$500 000 From MRP Over "Shona Vulture" Statement

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) leader, Mqondisi Moyo, has expressed outrage over the jailing of nine party members known as the MRP9 for public violence and accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of being vindictive.
Bulawayo magistrate Tavengwa Sangster last Friday sentenced seven members of the MRP to 33 months while the other two were jailed for 36 months.
The jailed activists include two women, MRP women’s National League Chairperson Sibongile Banda and Busi Moyo.
The other members are the Council of Elders representative -Tinos Nkomo, MRP Youth Chairperson, Mongameli Mlotshwa including his team – Livson Ncube, Maxwell Nkosi, Welcome Moyo, Nkosilathi Ncube, and Ackim Ndebele.
The MRP leader wrote a letter directed to Mnangagwa and copied to his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, Justice Minister (Ziyambi Ziyambi), Minister of Home Affairs, Kazembe Kazembe, Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, Moses Chinobvu who is the prisons’ Commissioner General, Bulawayo Provincial Head of the Judiciary, magistrate Tavengwa, the British Embassy, the United States Embassy as well as the Australian Embassy. Part of the letter reads:

I am writing to you now because of the ruling that was made against the MRP9. I have no doubt the ruling is consistent with the statement you made while addressing your supporters on May 23 (at a Chitungwiza rally prior to the March 26th by-elections).
In your address as the president of Zimbabwe, you openly said you were going to shorten the days of our lives if we continued on the path of seeking separation from Zimbabwe.
You said that you had not arrested us yet, though to me it was a fallacy because I and many members of the party have been in and out of your jails countless times…
Sentencing our MRP9 has so far, been the worst repressive measure demonstrating cruelty by your government using your partisan judiciary system.
I put it to you Emmerson Mnangagwa, that I am aware that the ruling made against our revolutionary cadres has got nothing to do with the aforementioned March 2021 Bulawayo Central Police station incident.

The MRP9 were arrested after they stormed the Bulawayo central police station and protested over the attempted abduction of Moyo by suspected state security agents in 2021.

MRP Leader, Mqondisi Moyo, Accuses Mnangagwa Of Being Vindictive

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned opposition activists pushing for the creation of a breakaway state in southwestern Zimbabwe that their lives will be shortened.
Mnangagwa reiterated that Zimbabwe would remain a unitary state as recognised by the United Nations Organisation.
Addressing ZANU PF supporters at a campaign rally in Chitungwiza on Wednesday, Mnangagwa singled out the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), a small secessionist political party based in Matabeleland.
MRP is campaigning for the creation of the Mthwakazi Republic covering parts of the Midlands and all of the Matabeleland provinces. Mnangagwa insisted that will not happen. He said:

There are some who, after eating beans, they overestimate their influence, groups like Mthwakazi.
They want Zimbabwe to be divided in the middle, and the other part becomes Mthwakazi Republic.
They will talk and talk until they’re old and dead and Zimbabwe will be here still as a unitary state. No one will divide this country.
They must be quiet and work with the government of the day and thrive because if they keep doing what they’re doing, there’s no country in this world that will support secession.
The United Nations recognises us as we are, no one will divide us into small states.
You’ll be looking to shorten your life. You must walk a path that prolongs your life.

MRP, led by Mqondisi Moyo, is a fringe political party operating largely in Bulawayo and the two Matabeleland provinces.
It participated in the 2018 elections but failed to win a single Ward, let alone a parliamentary seat.
MPR wants to establish a breakaway State whose boundaries correspond to those of the Ndebele kingdom of Mthwakazi founded in south-western Zimbabwe by King Mzilikazi in the 19th century.

Mnangagwa Threatens To ‘Shorten’ The Lives Of Mthwakazi Secessionists

The nine members of the secessionist Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), who were arrested during a protest in Bulawayo in April, were on Wednesday further remanded to 8 November.
The activists appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawengwa Sangster on Wednesday charged with disorderly conduct.
They are denying the public violence charge.
They are being accused of staging a violent protest outside Bulawayo Central Police Station in April.
They were allegedly singing anti-government songs and burning tyres while blocking the driveway to the police station.
The activists were protesting the alleged harassment of their president, Mqondisi Moyo after his house was raided at night by security agents.
Following their arrest, they spent more than a month at Khami Prison before they were granted bail by Sangster.
The MRP activists are national league chairperson Sibongile Banda, Busi Moyo, Tino Nkomo, Mongameli Mlotshwa, Livvson Ncube, Welcome Moyo, Nkosilathi Ncube and Ackim Ndebele.

9 Mthwakazi Activists Further Remanded

The leader of the secessionist Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has lambasted people living in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces for supporting the ruling ZANU PF party and the opposition MDC Alliance instead of supporting his political outfit.
Speaking in an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, MRP president Mqondisi Moyo accused people from the provinces of selling each other out for the love of money.
Moyo’s outbursts come after former MRP secretary-general, Ackim Mhlanga, and former Matabeleland North provincial secretary, Nkosikhona Sibanda defected and joined ZANU PF.
Moyo said the MRP was the only political organisation that had stood with the people in Matabeleland North, South, and parts of Midlands.
The provinces bore the brunt of state terrorism during the Gukurahundi massacres in the early 1980s when over 20 000 people were massacred by the Zimbabwe National Army’s North Korean-trained Fifth Brigade. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>Our biggest enemies are ourselves because the people of Matabeleland are the ones who are selling out each other instead of uniting all under MRP since it is the only party that has stood for the people of Midlands and Matabeleland.

Mthwakazi Leader Feels Betrayed By People In Midlands, Mat Region

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) leader Mqondisi Moyo says human rights violations and state-sponsored persecution of political activists is worse under President Emmerson Mnangagwa than the late Robert Mugabe.
Moyo has been in hiding since 12 March claiming that he is afraid of being abducted by State agents after leading MRP activists in a surprise protest outside Bulawayo Central police station days before.
The MRP activists, nine of whom were arrested on public violence charges, were protesting the alleged harassment and intimidation of their leader.
They were detained at Khami maximum prison for over a month and were only released on bail a fortnight ago by Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Evangelista Kabasa.
In an interview with The Standard, Moyo, a former civil servant who said he had been arrested over a dozen times since the formation of the party in January 2014, said:
<blockquote>I think Mnangagwa’s era is even worse than that of Mugabe. So many arrests of our members have happened during Mnangagwa’s era more than Mugabe’s era. He is even worse than Mugabe. He has exposed his true colours.</blockquote>
Moyo claimed state security agents have also been visiting his relatives asking about his whereabouts. But he will not run away from politics as he believes it is his calling. Moyo said:
<blockquote>I think I have been arrested over 17 times and in all the arrests, police had never come to my house at night as was the case on March 10.
It was a first; it was unique and I feel that those people either wanted to kill me or kidnap me.
To this day, they continue visiting the residential homes of my relatives interrogating them about my whereabouts.
They have not given up on my persecution, but whether they kill me or not, the seed has already been planted.</blockquote>
Human rights watchdogs have recorded countless rights violations since Mnangagwa assumed office and dissenters have been jailed for months without trial for violating non-existent laws.

Mnangagwa Worse Than Mugabe, Says MRP Leader

The leader of the secessionist Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), Mqondisi Moyo, made his first public appearance on Tuesday last week after going into ‘hiding’ for nearly a month fearing arrest.
Moyo led a delegation of his party leadership to his Gwandavale rural home in Matobo North, Matabeleland South province, where he met church and unnamed traditional leaders.
Moyo told The Standard that he was encouraged by one of the traditional leaders who was present who told him that his blood falls within the bloodline of the Lozi kingship. Moyo said:
<blockquote>Some members of the church, community, traditional leaders and villagers invited me and my leadership to Matobo. The meeting was nothing ordinary, but unique.
The meeting was unique in the sense that the Matobo leadership together with family members wanted to pray for and bless the MRP leadership.
Indeed we were blessed, encouraged and honoured.</blockquote>
Moyo escaped arrest when armed security agents reportedly stormed his house last month.
The raid followed a confrontation between MRP activists and police in Ntabazinduna over a land dispute.
MRP activists clashed with police after the latter descended at Tabas Induna Farm in Ntabazinduna.
The activists had evicted Floyd Ambrose from the property accusing him of forcibly taking it from a white farmer, Brian Davies.

Mthwakazi Republic Party Leader Resurfaces

The bail application for nine members of the secessionist Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) who were arrested last week has been postponed to tomorrow (Wednesday).
The activists were arrested last week during a protest in front of the Bulawayo Central Police station.
They were singing anti-government songs as they burnt tyres, and blocked the driveway into the police station before threatening to storm the building.
They were protesting over the alleged harassment of their leader, Mqondisi Moyo following a night raid at his house by armed police with the intention to arrest him.
A statement released this Tuesday by MRP National Information and Publicity Secretary Velie D Moyo read:
<blockquote>The bail application for the fearless Mthwakazi Republic Party members that were arrested last week for protesting and demanding their rights in front of the Bulawayo Central Police station appeared today at the Treldgold Magistrate Court.
They had since remained in custody after Abammeli layers led by Prince Bhutshe Dube last week Thursday the 11th of March had requested from the Courts that the MRP9 members be first treated before a ball application is lodged.
Today Abammell Lawyers for human rights demanded a medical report for the MRP accused before a bail application is applied for.
It has been noted that the brutal police of Zimbabwe were looking jittery after they heard about the demand for medical reports for the MRP9 accused members.
The bail application was then postponed to tomorrow 17 March 2021 for a bail application provided the state produces the medical report of the Accused MRP9 members.
The unmoved Members of MRP including the National executive members comprising the National Treasurer Brighton Maladzhind the Provincial chairs that included Thembinkosi Mfulongashi Mpofu all thronged the courts though they were not allowed to be seated.
The members of MRP who were arrested and remained in custody are the following; MRP Women’s league Chairperson Ms Sibongile Bhanda, Cde Tinos Nkomo council of elders, Levison Ncube who is a coordinator in the council of Elders, Cde Mongameli Mlotshwa National Youth Chairperson, and some of his lieutenants who include Albert Ncube, Nkosi, Ackim Ndebele, Welcome, Moyo, Nkosilathi Ncube who is Bulawayo provincial treasurer.
The cause of their arrest was that they went to the Central police station to find out about the whereabouts of Mqondisi Moyo the President of MRP whose house was raided in the odd hours after midnight on the 10th of March.
Mqondisi Moyo has since run away and is in hiding till today.
The people’s revolutionary party remains resolute in fighting and reversing all injustices committed by the evil government of Zimbabwe against the people of Matabeleland alias Mthwakazi for over 4 decades.
We call all people to continue to support the MRP9 through this process.

Bail Application For 9 MRP Members Postponed To Wednesday

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of hypocrisy after he sacked Energy Mutodi from the position of Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services for taunting hospitalised female MDC Alliance officials, calling them pr_stitutes.
In a statement, MRP president Mqondisi Moyo said Mnangagwa did not call Mutodi to order last year for fuelling tribal hatred when he insinuated that Ndebele people were foreigners in Zimbabwe. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>The firing of Energy Mutodi from the position of Deputy Minister of Information by Emerson Mnangagwa has exposed his hypocrisy and his chameleon tendencies on Ndebele people, sometime last year Energy Mutodi as the deputy minister of Information hogged the limelight by labelling foreigners in Zimbabwe which to us is very much true as Zimbabwe and Mthwakazi are two separate states but to Emerson, Mnangagwa could not call his then wayward to order, actually, Mutodi’s utterances then fuelled tribalism and hate speech against Mthwakazi people but Mnangagwa saw no good reason of firing the imbecile Mutodi because the sentiments from Mutodi is what Zanu pf and Shonas say about Mthwakazi people.</blockquote>
The secessionist political party’s leader vowed that MRP will continue to expose what he calls the inconsistencies of Shonas without fear or favour.
Mutodi was dismissed after he mocked  – Joanna Mamombe, a Member of Parliament, Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri – who were abducted, tortured and s_xually assaulted by armed men who had seized them from a police station.

MRP Leader Accuses Mnangagwa Of Hypocrisy

Speaking to Newsday, Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) president Mqondisi Moyo accused MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa of being childish and clumsy for his statements regarding protests targeting ward 24 councillor Arnold Batirai who took oath of office in Shona instead of Ndebele or English.
Moyo said it was a blessing in disguise that Chamisa lost the presidential election because he does not respect Bulawayo residents. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>Chamisa’s statement to the residents of Bulawayo is very unfortunate. He has confirmed himself as a clumsy politician and not a leader. It is surely a blessing in disguise that he is not a president of this country. With his level of childishness, he would have turned this country into a political circus. He perceives the residents of Bulawayo as having some cognitive or physical inadequacy and as incomplete human beings. This is a repeat of the moment of madness that led to a genocide. This is insult to the residents of this great city.</blockquote>

Chamisa Is A Clumsy Politician And Not A Leader: Mthwakazi Leader Responds To Chamisa's Call To Move From Tribal Politics

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has said that Thokozani Khupe has doomed her political career by endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s electoral victory. According to MRP MRP president Mqondisi Moyo, Khupe should go ahead and join Zanu-PF because she was going to lose support in Matabeleland. Addressing the media, Moyo said,
<blockquote>We feel this move [endorsing Mnangagwa] has disqualified her as a leadership figure in Matabeleland. It is clear she got most of her votes in Matabeleland. She was naturally viewed among the 23 presidential candidates as a Matabeleland candidate. Her embracing of those accused of genocide in Matabeleland is not only shocking but spells her doom on her political career…The best she can do for now is to join Zanu PF and stop compromising the opposition.</blockquote>
However, Khupe’s spokesperson Khaliphani Phugeni, defended Khupe saying that the breakaway MDC-T faction did not believe in being sore losers.
