Maximilian Lion, a Zimbabwean blogger, asserts that if Vice President Constantino Chiwenga orchestrated the removal of Zimbabwe’s late founding leader, Robert Mugabe, from power in 2017, then he must strategise a reversal and restore power to the people in line with the liberation war struggle’s objectives.
Lion’s comments follow the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/08/14/doctor-testified-marry-revealed-mnangagwas-alleged-2018-assassination-attempt-on-vp-chiwenga/">testimony of South African medical doctor Willi Leo Sieling</a>, who claimed that Mary Mubaiwa, the former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, confided in him about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged attempt to assassinate his deputy in 2018.
According to Lion, Chiwenga may have been betrayed, and therefore, he should not feel obligated to protect individuals who benefited from Mugabe’s demise. <a href="https://twitter.com/maximilianlion/status/1690951879239323648">He said on Twitter:</a>

A proposal for General V.P Chiwenga in light of the evidence adduced during a trial in which a Doctor said under oath that there was a plan to assassinate him when he was in hospital. 
The evidence implies that some of the beneficiaries of the 2017 coup were dishonest players. Had the coup failed, most of the people who made the 2017 – 2023 cabinet would have faced treason trials under Mugabe and a meeting with their maker. 
The chief beneficiary of the coup only appeared on the scene when the heavy lifting had been done. 
The evidence submitted in court infers that there was a great betrayal and deception among the coup players. While others courageously accepted the risk that came with the coup of potentially losing their lives, others saw it as a means to an end while there was no risk to their lives because they were in hiding. 
Whether you supported the coup or not, one can’t help but see a pattern of deception which goes back decades. It is disgusting in all the circumstances. The more one thinks about this, the more one sees a potential avenue for the betrayed to redeem himself in the eyes of the country. 
What General V.P Chiwenga could do is acknowledge that he took a great risk for a mission which made life worse for the country and its people. But he can do something about it. He can correct this situation by putting the country back in the position it was before the 2017 coup. 
He can go further and do even better by ensuring that power goes back to the people in alignment with the objectives of the liberation war struggle. He can establish a genuine republic with accountability and separation of powers. 
How is he going to do this is the question many people will be asking? The answer is, only he knows. He knows the challenges that stand in his way. We can only speculate as to the risk but he knows precisely the obstacles before him. 
If he masterminded what happened in 2017, he can strategise a reversal of the process. This is more than a duty to the country, the people who are suffering and all the lives that were sacrificed during the liberation war. A reversal of the coup of 2017 could be a launch pad for Zimbabwe’s transformation. 
If he can pull this off, the event could prove to be the biggest in Zimbabwe’s history. If he were to do this, he could go down as the most influential Zimbabwean to ever live. His legacy in the history books will be guaranteed for the next 1000 years and beyond. Zimbabweans would be willing to forgive the drama of 2017 for returning to order.

He added that the proposal is driven by the realisation of Zimbabwe’s immense challenges and another five years of the same would be disastrous. He said the country has reached a critical point with wasted potential. Other countries with fewer resources have achieved better organization adding that people deserve a functional country, accountable government, and ethical leadership. He is sceptical that elections will bring change as the process is biased. He says the upcoming elections won’t be fair, leaving Zimbabwe in a difficult situation. The country lacks a democratic model for solutions. He says General V.P. Chiwenga understands the power dynamics. 
Unsubstantiated reports suggest an agreement between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga, wherein the former would vacate his position to allow his deputy to assume the presidency upon the conclusion of his final term. This potential scenario adds complexity to the situation. The question arises whether Chiwenga will demonstrate selflessness and relinquish the opportunity to become president, granting power to a civilian. If Mnangagwa emerges victorious in the presidential election on August 23, he will remain president until at least 2028. Previously, he ambiguously stated he will still be around by 2030, leaving the intention behind his remark unclear, whether it was a joke or a serious declaration.

VP Chiwenga Urged To Reverse Mugabe's Removal And Restore Power To The People

Zimbabwe’s former Deputy Prime Minister, Arthur Mutambara, has said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has less than 10% of the late former President Robert Mugabe. He says that’s the reason why he missed an opportunity to unite Zimbabwe and re-engage with the international community after the removal of Mugabe in 2017.
In an interview with Trevor Ncube, Chairman of Alpha Media Holdings, Mutambara noted that there was significant goodwill towards Zimbabwe, particularly from the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and a capable leader should have capitalised on this momentum.
Mutambara further opined that Mnangagwa lacked the competence to lead Zimbabwe and could have done better in promoting the country’s interests. He also criticised Mnangagwa’s tribalism, stating that he was worse than Mugabe in this regard.
Asked if he was surprised that Mnangagwa didn’t see the opportunity to unite Zimbabwe post-Mugabe, Mutambara said:

With hindsight, I’m not surprised because the ability is very limited there, the competence is very minimal there. He is not a very able man. In fact, in many fronts… The idea was if Mnangagwa was clever, if Emmerson Mnangagwa was clever, if he had 10% of Mugabe’s intelligence, he’d have used that moment of the Coup to do a team Zimbabwe approach. Not so much for Zimbabwe, for himself. But he was blind, deaf and dumb and missed the moment because Mugabe won 57 out of 80. He could have gone alone without Nkomo without Smith and set up his own government but he realised that it was a Zimbabwean moment, it was so much goodwill in the world. So what do I do? I reach out to ZANU and Nkomo, I reach out to Smith and I put together a team Zimbabwe.

Asked why he thought Mnangagwa could not emulate his long-time boss, Mutambara said:

Arthur Mutambara also criticised Robert Mugabe for not stepping down from his position of power at the appropriate time and stated that this was an unwise decision. According to Mutambara, Mugabe should have left at the turn of the millennium and chosen a successor who he could have groomed to ensure the protection of his legacy. Mutambara’s view on the intelligence of Mugabe and Mnangagwa contradicts the popular view that both leaders are shrewd, strategic, and tactical thinkers.

Mnangagwa Has Less Than 10% Of Mugabe's Intelligence: Prof Mutambara

President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> and his deputy, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga">Constantino Chiwenga</a>, or their associates and relatives, allegedly received $3 million from a controversial South African businessman, Zunaid Moti, during the 2017 coup that ousted former President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>.
Moti has extensive business interests in Zimbabwe and was awarded controversial contracts towards the end of Mugabe’s reign. The information was obtained from <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200010832/ed-chiwenga-secret-millions-exposed">confidential papers</a> by The Sentry, a US-based investigative and policy organisation. The papers show that Moti moved up to $130 million into the accounts of 28 companies and four individuals in Zimbabwe from 2017, some of which took place during the coup.
The papers also reveal close ties between Moti and Zimbabwe’s highest-ranking politicians and evidence of dubious multimillion-dollar transactions.
ACF, Moti’s company, had formed a joint venture with the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and hired Mnangagwa’s son as a consultant. Moti’s firms allegedly paid $130 million in 595 instalments to a mix of established firms, companies whose records are missing, and politically-linked entities in Zimbabwe. The Sentry reported:

In December 2017 and January 2018, the payments included $1 million to Mnangagwa’s farm and $2 million to a company controlled by Chiwengs’s’ investment manager’ and someone reported to be the retired general’s niece.
In a separate commercial transaction in February 2018, ACF also allegedly paid $100 000 to Justice George Chiweshe, as part of a wider deal to mine chrome in concession areas controlled by a firm he chaired.
The timing of the November 17, 2017, deal raises the question of whether there is a connection to the coup,” The Sentry reported.
Following Zimbabwe African National Union—Patriotic Front (Zanu PF) factional infighting throughout the year, Mnangagwa fled Zimbabwe after being fired as Vice-President by President Robert Mugabe on November 6, 2017.

In November 2017, Constantino Chiwenga, who was the head of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, took control of Harare and persuaded former President Robert Mugabe to step down.
After Mugabe’s resignation, High Court Judge President Chiweshe ruled that the military’s actions were constitutional and annulled the dismissal of Emmerson Mnangagwa, paving the way for him to become president. Mnangagwa later named Chiwenga as his deputy. The military claimed that the coup was to remove criminals surrounding Mugabe, but few were arrested.
Recently, Al Jazeera aired a documentary alleging money laundering and gold smuggling by syndicates linked to Mnangagwa’s family.

Mnangagwa, Chiwenga Received $3 Million From SA Businessman During 2017 Coup - Report

Self-exiled former ZANU PF Politburo member Saviour Kasukuwere said that the late former president, Robert Mugabe, wanted to hand over power to his then deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa, but the latter was pressured by power-hungry allies to stage a coup in November 2017.
Speaking at a discussion on the fifth anniversary of Mugabe’s ouster held under the topic, Back to the Future: A Review of the Post-November 2017 Coup in Zimbabwe which was hosted by Sapes Trust last Thursday, Kasukuwere also accused ZANU PF of failing to follow its own constitution. He said:

Those colleagues were looking at the watch and wanted to taste power. Their ages were advancing and some were turning 79, others 80. If we had discussed this at the party we would not have been where we are now.
The appointment of Mnangagwa as then Vice-President was an indication that Mugabe wanted him to come in.
This was a discussion he had with us to say: ‘Let Mnangagwa come in and we can move forward.’ But ZANU PF being ZANU PF there was a secretive way of doing things which created problems for us up to this day.
We should have stuck to the constitutional process to challenge the President. The big problem in Zanu PF now is that nobody can stand up and say ‘I want to be a ZANU PF president.’

Kasukuwere also claimed that Mugabe wanted to resign after the 2002 elections “but factors took place that meant he remained in office until 2008.” He said:

After the 2002 elections and thereafter, Mugabe intended to step down, but factors took place that meant he remained in office until 2008 when we had that humiliation with the MDC and he stayed up until 2013 when he won.
We thought after winning the election in 2013 he would put in place processes for a much more stable succession programme.
In 2017, he told me as his political commissar that he was stepping down. We were in Mexico attending a conference and we talked for about seven hours.
Still, it was too late because of the dynamics of the politics at that time.

Kasukuwere Claims Mugabe Wanted To Quit In 2002, ED Was His Preferred Successor

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said it is investigating the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/sybeth-musengezis-house-petrol-bombed/">alleged bombing</a> of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sybeth_Musengezi">Sybeth Musengezi</a>‘s home.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sybeth_Musengezi">Sybeth Musengezi</a> who is challenging President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>’s legitimacy claimed on October 1, 2022, that his Harare house had been set on fire.
He posted pictures of his burning property on social media saying his neighbours managed to extinguish the fire. Said Musengezi in posts seen by Pindula News:

This is what they have done. Thanks to the neighbourhood vadzodzima moyo nema buckets.
We managed to get out.

ZRP later confirmed receiving a report about the incident. Said the police:

The ZRP has received a report from Sybeth Musengezi concerning an alleged incident at his home and is now conducting investigations.

Meanwhile, Musengezi is expected in court this Monday, 03 October 2022 for the continuation of the case in which he is challenging the legitimacy of President Mnangagwa.
He claims that Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to power in 2017, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/11/21/mugabe-resigns/">following the ouster</a> of former leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>, was unconstitutional therefore must be nullified by the courts.
Musengezi also wants an order barring Mnangagwa from calling and or presiding over a ZANU PF elective Congress set for this month.

Police Investigating Alleged Bombing Of Sybeth Musengezi's Home

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sybeth_Musengezi">Sybeth Musengezi</a> who filed a High Court case challenging President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>‘s legitimacy says his life is in danger as he constantly receives death threats over the case.
Musengezi who claims to be a ZANU PF youth member is challenging the ascendancy of President Mnangagwa to the leadership of the party in 2017 following the demise of the late veteran leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> saying the rise was unconstitutional.
He filed his challenge last year, but Mnangagwa’s lawyers have been pressing him to drop the High Court case while some ZANU PF activists promised to take unspecified action against him.
Musengezi last month filed another urgent High Court application seeking <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/sybeth-musengezi-approaches-courts-seeking-to-stop-zanu-pf-congress/">to stop Mnangagwa from calling and presiding over ZANU PF’s elective congress</a> slated for October before the case he brought before the court is finalised.
Sources in the party believe Musengezi is a product of an alleged alliance between former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/G40_(Zanu-PF_Faction)">G40</a> members and Vice-President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga">Constantino Chiwenga</a> in a bid to frustrate Mnangagwa’s bid to contest in 2023 elections, allegations which Musengezi has refuted.
Musengezi told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200000711/musengezi-case-rattles-zanu-pf">NewsDay</a> on Sunday that death threats escalated ahead of the court sitting on Wednesday this week. He said:

Yes, in recent weeks, I’ve seen a number of unmarked vehicles parked just outside of my yard. Sometimes they park when I’m not there and my colleagues would call me to say there is a vehicle or vehicles without plates parked at home.
I personally confronted those people and they just drive off. I can’t really say I’m safe because I don’t know what these people are up to, but if anything is to happen to me, obviously it is people linked to the case.
I have received threats since I launched the legitimacy application last year, with people trying to intimidate me to withdraw and at one point, was arrested and detained for 10 days on a spurious charge to try and force me to withdraw the matter. So, after realising that threats and detention have failed, they have resorted to intimidation tactics.

He said he would not be shaken by threats since he was doing the right thing for the country.
Musengezi is not only opposed to Mnangagwa’s rise to power, but he also does not want him to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zanu-pf-war-veterans-league-endorses-ed-as-their-sole-presidential-candidate/">contest the 2023 presidential elections</a> saying he is too old, at 80, to lead the southern African country. In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, he said:

Mnangagwa turned 80 yday (15 September). Some Cdes are saying since he wants 5 more years as ‘president’ let’s give him. This means he’ll finish his 2nd unproductive term when he is 86. For me it’s a big NO Considering our economy, it’s very foolish to let someone this old determine our future

Musengezi’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole of Ncube Attorneys confirmed the death threats which are said to have escalated since September 21, 2022 date,” Sithole said.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF political commissar <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mike_Bimha">Mike Bimha</a> claimed not to know who Musengezi was.

Sybeth Musengezi Says His Life Is In Danger Ahead Of Mnangagwa Legitimacy Case Hearing

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has summoned ZANU PF activist Sybeth Musengezi, who challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy at the High Court in 2021, for an interview.
In a letter dated 6 April 2022, one detective Mirimbo requested Msengezi to avail himself at Law and Order Harare as soon as possble. Read the letter:

We are kindly inviting you and your client Sybeth Musengezi to come to Law and Order Harare for interviews.
May you please treat this issue as a matter of urgency.

In a post on the microblogging site Twitter, Msengezi on Friday said he will cooperate with the police and hand himself in for the “interview”.
Last year Msengezi filed papers at the High Court seeking nullification of a ZANU PF central committee resolution on 19 November 2017 that confirmed Mnangagwa as the acting party president.
He also argued that Mnangagwa’s presidency is illegitimate since his elevation by the ZANU PF central committee was in violation of the party’s constitution.

Police Summon Mnangagwa Challenger For An 'Interview'

The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP), a human rights monitoring group, says the country’s democratic space has shrunk significantly since President Emmerson took over from the late Robert Mugabe in November 2017 through a popular military coup.
In its monthly report for June 2021 titled “Wave after wave of human rights violations,” the ZPP said bad governance had dented the Mnangagwa government. It said:
<blockquote>In post-coup Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has continued to record wave after wave of human rights violations as the democratic space continues to narrow.
Criticising the government has easily become a reason for one to get arrested, harassed, detained or denied access to government services.</blockquote>
Since the coup, the government of Zimbabwe has been vicious towards pro-democracy campaigners and opposition activists with numerous arrests made, most of them based on flimsy allegations.
Among those harassed are MDC Alliance officials Zengeza West legislator, Job Sikhala, Harare West representative, Joana Mamombe, as well as activists Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova.
MDC Alliance youth assembly chairperson, Tererai Obey Sithole, is out on bail facing charges of allegedly leading anti-government protests.
Youth wing member, Makomborero Haruzivishe, is serving a jail sentence for encouraging people to demonstrate against the police.
Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono also has pending cases at the courts, while MDC Alliance co-vice presidents, Tendai Biti and Lynette Karenyi-Kore, were arrested in central Harare on 19 June 2020.
The ZPP, in its report, also claimed that there was a conflation of the ruling ZANU PF and government. It added:
<blockquote>The line between government and the ruling party has been violated, continues to fade and in all this, the ordinary citizen is the most affected.</blockquote>
ZPP said it recorded a wave of evictions and demolitions resulting from the government’s policy inconsistencies, corruption and interference in local authorities.
The watchdog said Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers topped the list of human rights violators in June 2021, accounting for 44 per cent of the transgressions.
It also noted the politicisation of food aid, with opposition party supporters victims of exclusion from aid provided by both independent donors and the government.

ZANU PF acting national spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said the party’s constitution clearly spells out its succession matrix.
Addressing reporters in Harare, Chinamasa said the ZANU PF constitution stipulates that the most senior party member would succeed an incumbent party leader and there won’t be any deviation from that precedent which was set in 1977. He said:
<blockquote>ZANU PF has a constitution and under that constitution, we sit as a congress to elect our president.
In 1977, a lot of the leaders had fallen by the wayside. The most senior person in rank remaining was (the late) Cde Robert Mugabe and at the congress in Chimoio, he was elected president of ZANU then.
In November (2017), exactly on the basis of the precedence of 1977, exactly that is what happened when it became very clear that our constitution was being trampled upon by the G40 cabal and that they were threatening the stability of the nation, the party moved in and we elected, at our December congress, President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa as leader of ZANU PF.</blockquote>
The G40 was a ZANU PF faction that tried to position itself to seize control of the party and block Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was Vice President in 2017, from succeeding the then nonagenarian President Robert Mugabe.

Chinamasa Reveals ZANU PF Succession Plan

Saviour Kasukuwere who is in exile in South Africa has rebutted claims made by fellow former Cabinet Minister Patrick Chinamasa that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/23/kasukuwere-and-g40-were-hanging-very-lowly-on-the-skirts-of-grace-chinamasa/">he and other G40 members were reporting to Grace Mugabe</a> on cabinet decisions. The former Zanu PF political commissar said this while speaking to CITE.org.
Chinamasa took a jab at Saviour Kasukuwere earlier this week and said Kasukuwere who he said was expelled from Zanu PF was hanging lowly on Grace Mugabe’s skirt taking advantage of Mugabe’s advanced age and reporting to Grace about cabinet decisions.
While responding to such allegations, Kasukuwere said:
<blockquote>A contest of ideas cannot be substituted by use of tanks and guns. As a political player then, I don’t think differences warranted that kind of intervention whatever people say. But I guess they became a way for those who were in a haste and wanted power to magnify the challenges. One of the challenges spoken about during the coup was there were criminals around Mugabe who had stolen a lot of money. We are yet to see what was stolen
They said the first lady then had assumed political authority which was far from it and that she was making government decisions. From what I remember, what I know is decisions were made in the cabinet. Contestations of ideas were made in the politburo, people would discuss and if you had a better idea, viewpoint it would carry the day</blockquote>
Kasukuwere also said Mugabe had wanted a successor to come from the people before the army toppled him in November 2017:
<blockquote>In my discussions with him (Mugabe), when we went to Mexico, Mugabe had given me key instructions as political commissar that we must start a process of identifying a leader who will take over. This was a process where people must make a choice.
Mugabe was on record saying that the leader must not come from him, but must come from the people. But certainly there were preferences, people might have chosen one person over the other but those were personal preferences. For me I come back to the integrity of the system, we must come back to the democratic system that yields leadership through direct participation of members of the party.</blockquote>
Kasukuwere is one of the exiled politicians the government wants to extradited back to Zimbabwe to stand trial for their alleged abuse of office charges.

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Reverend Dr Solomon Zwana (SZ) has said that things are getting worse in Zimbabwe since the 2017 military-assisted transition which resulted in Robert Mugabe’s demise.
Speaking in an interview with Zimbabwe Independent (ZI)’s News Editor Owen Gagare (OG) and online content creator Evans Mathanda, the former secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) said that Zimbabwe missed a glorious opportunity to turn around its fortunes.
He said that Zimbabwe could have done better but the nation was carried away by the excitement over the ‘New Dispensation’ and the country is now heading South contrary to official statistics on growth or decline of the economy.
Below are excerpts from the interview.
<blockquote>OG: In your view, has there been any change since the November 2017 events? The government says things are improving.
SZ: A few months after the coup, there were some relative stability and freedom of expression; the police roadblocks were gone, so people were happy initially. But those things started shrinking gradually from different angles and, as we drew closer to the 2018 elections, things started getting worse and even as we approached the election we were hopeful that there would be stability afterwards. Now we continue to have challenges of shortages, even of cash, and the economy is in turmoil. For the ordinary person it is not about the statistics but having food on the table. An ordinary person says things have improved when they have food on the table, when they are able to send the children at school, to get fuel whenever they need it. People should not worry about where to get the next bag of roller meal. It’s not just about statistics and economic theories but the issues of survival. Things are generally worse now than they were in 2017.</blockquote>

"For The Ordinary Person It's Not About Statistics But Food On The Table," Church Leader

Two years after the coup that toppled long-time ruler <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Robert Mugabe</a>, the majority of Zimbabweans have become despondent.
While the fall of Mugabe gave hope to millions of Zimbabweans – the young, the old, the rich, the poor, blacks, whites and mixed-race – everything that was bad then, has been multiplied. Opposition MDC spokesperson Daniel Molekele had this to say:
<blockquote>People would rather go back to 2017 not because Mugabe was better but because people are much poorer. There is more corruption with cartels running sections of the economy. It’s a classic case of jumping from the frying pan into a fire.</blockquote>
According to Professor Tony Hawkins of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/University_of_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">University of Zimbabwe’s</a> School of Economics, things have basically got worse since the coup as people have become poorer and thousands have lost their jobs.
For <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alex_Magaisa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Alex Magaisa</a>, a lecturer at the University of Kent in England, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s promise of a new dawn had become nothing more than a mirage.
Meanwhile, Harare-based political analyst Alexander Rusero told AFP that it’s all about the political elite in (the ruling) ZANU-PF (party) and the preservation of their wealth.

Two Years After The Coup, Zimbabwe Is Back To Square One - OPINION

Daily News Editor has written a letter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying that the ruling party has managed to destroy the country and the future of many youths.
The writer observes that the party inherited a better economy and destroyed it.
The editor also says that Mnangagwa and his colleagues risk reversing the gains if independence registered in the 1980s and 1990s.
The writer also cited the sorry state of local government-owned medical institutions to show how desperate the situation has become in the hands of the ruling ZANU PF. Part of the letter reads:
<blockquote>Our hospitals are now a pale shadow of their former selves and the moment one is admitted at the State hospitals and clinics that would be most likely the end of their lives. It’s a disaster that hospitals which are supposed to give relief to patients are now known for taking away life due to lack of medication.
I am quite confident sir, a gentleman as you are, that you did not intend to destroy the legacy that you built in the 1980s and 1990s.
As we speak, your government reeks of corruption and nepotism. Unfortunately, despite your constant empty threats, very few people have been apprehended for corruption yet it is very rampant.</blockquote>
The writer who claimed to be a die-hard supporter of the president said that there was a disconnect between what Mnangagwa promised the nation when he took over from his former boss, the late Robert Mugabe in 2017.

"You've Succeeded In Destroying The Future Of Youths," ED Told

Director-General in the President’s Office Mr Isaac Moyo has said that Zimbabwe’s founding leader, the late former president, Robert Gabriel Mugabe, had wished to meet with President Emmerson Mnangagwa upon his return from Singapore where he was receiving treatment.
Moyo, who was the point man in liaisons between the State and the former First Family, said:
<blockquote>The former President hoped he was going to come back home and that he wished to see the President upon his return. We had told him that the President looked forward to seeing him upon his return and he had also expressed similar sentiments that he would be delighted to meet the President. And at that time, we were told that the last date of his medical engagements was the 17th of October and that soon after he would return home. A week after our return, I then got a call from Mrs Mugabe and she said that the treatment regime that the former President was having would no longer be extended to October, it would end in September instead and because of that, they were now scheduled to come back home at the end of September.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Mugabe’s family spokesperson has said that the former ZANU PF boss died a bitterman particularly because the men who removed him from power were his most trusted lieutenants.
Mugabe who was 93 years old back then, later revealed that he had resigned to avoid bloodshed in the country.
His departure was however celebrated by Zimbabweans across all walks of life.

"MUGABE Had Wished To See MNANGAGWA Upon His Return"

Former cabinet minister and nephew to retired President Robert Mugabe, Patrick Zhuwawo, said that Zimbabweans are now experiencing unprecedented suffering after being used in 2017 to sanitise the November coup.
In an open letter addressed to his late mother, Sabina Gabriel Mugabe, Zhuwawo warns that Zimbabwe’s crises could spiral out of the country and destabilise the SADC region. He writes:
<blockquote>Since the November 2017 coup, I have not been able to visit you and bring you flowers. So today as we commemorate nine years since your passing on, I am writing this letter to you instead.
I am sorry to tell you that Zimbabweans who were the victims of “kuiitiswa” (being played) during the coup are experiencing unprecedented levels of suffering and poverty.
With violent crime spiralling out of control, there is a real danger that the contagion of Zimbabwe’s economic and political meltdown will cause massive destabilisation within SADC.
As one of the political players who sought to manage ZANU PF’s leadership transition prior to the coup, I know that some actions that occurred should not have been allowed to occur and that some of the things that should have been done were not done.
It is so unfortunate that we find ourselves in this situation where several of our fellow comrades from ZANU PF are in exile and compatriots that are in the diaspora are fast losing hope of returning to Zimbabwe.
Unfortunately, dishonesty in tackling and articulating issues has become the norm with knavery prevailing in policy prescriptions to such an extent that hunger, disease and poverty are now endemic.
The knaves in control of the country have collapsed infrastructure with electricity available only at the dead of night, everything in short supply, and unemployment rampant.
These knaves have brazenly stolen from the nation and all Zimbabweans under the guise of the infamous Command Agriculture Programme.
It is shocking that of the US$3 billion that cannot be accounted for under the Command Agriculture, US$1.7 billion was taken within twenty days of the coup…</blockquote>

Mugabe's Nephew Says He Feels Sorry For Zimbabweans Who Were Used During Coup

A close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that they would respond in kind after a report claimed that the military was planning to push him out of office Mugabe-style.
<a href="http://spotlight-z.com/news/chiwenga-army-boot-mnangagwa-another-operation-code-named-restore-economy/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Spotlight Zimbabwe </a>reported on Friday that former military boss, Constantino Chiwenga and a faction of hardliners in ZANU PF were putting together a plan to force Mnangagwa out of office. The Spotlight report reads in part:
<blockquote>Combative Vice President, Rtd General Constantino Chiwenga, and a hardline military faction backing his political doctrine and ambitions are reportedly on the verge of booting President Emmerson Mnangagwa out of office at any moment now, through another subtle military intervention, allegedly called ‘Operation Restore Economy.</blockquote>
Former Harare East MP, who also served as the deputy minister of finance and considered a close ally of Mnangagwa said that the same strategy could not be employed twice.
Writing on microblogging site Twitter, with a short video of Major General Sibusiso Moyo speaking in a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) broadcast when he announced the army’s intervention on November 15, 2017, Mukupe said:

Mukupe was apparently referring to “Operation Restore Legacy”, a euphemism for the November 2017 military coup which led to the ouster of the then President Robert Mugabe.
The report further claims that Mnangagwa will be forced out through any one of three ways;
<blockquote>The first is a recall by the party (Zanu PF), allowing Chiwenga to replace him in the fashion and manner the ANC dealt with Jacob Zuma in February 2018; an impeachment parliamentary process over the deteriorating economy; or call for his arraignment in the killing of innocent protesters in August 2018 and early this year.</blockquote>
