The Widows for Economic Development (Widows4ED) union has petitioned President Emmerson Mnangagwa to fire Provincial Development Coordinator (PDC), Tafadzwa Muguti, following their eviction from ark Street, Harare where they were vending.
Vendors were authorised by the late Harare Provincial Minister, Oliver Chidawu in 2018, to sell their products in the open space on Saturday and Sunday only.
However, Muguti closed the site in September ordering armed anti-riot officers to seal it off. 
Widows4ED addressed its letter to Mnangagwa and copied it to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa, Police Commissioner General, Godwin Matanga, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe. Read the letter signed by Fungai Mutinsi, the Widows4ED chairperson:

Our main challenge is Muguti who defied a Court Order by unleashing the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on September 17. Old women were threatened and told they would be thoroughly beaten.
After realising that most of the widows and youths were unable to engage in productive activities because of exorbitant rentals charged by property owners, we decided to introduce the concept of a weekend market to bring convenience and affordability to the shopping public, while giving widows and youths access to affordable trading spaces.

Beginning 2016, we approached various authorities within both central and local government, culminating in the granting of permission to use Park Street during weekends for the Weekend Market concept.
Over the past six years that we have been operating, a significant number of widows and youths have managed to upgrade their operations migrating from being weekend table operators to owners of boutique shops in and outside Harare.
Since the unfortunate passing on of (former Harare province minister Oliver) Chidawu, the Park Street Weekend Market has been under siege from the very people who never liked the concept…
Muguti told us in our face that he had instructions from you, your Excellency, to shut down our weekend market. This was shocking and difficult to believe, as we do not know you as a person who is against the uplifting of marginalised members of the society.
Muguti clearly stated that he is the President’s blue-eyed boy in Harare and had direct orders from the President to clear the rot caused by the late Chidawu.
We kindly request that you reconsider the suitability of Muguti as Harare PDC regards his conduct which violates the country’s law and will likely foment negative sentiment against the government and the party.

Muguti recently gave all councils under his authority orders to initiate a cleanup campaign.

Widows4ED Petition President Mnangagwa To Fire Tafadzwa Muguti

The Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Oliver_Chidawu">Oliver Chidawu</a> has died. He was 68.
A source close to the family confirmed the development.
It is not clear how he died but reports suggest he died at his home. The source said they got the news from Chidawu’s wife.
Senator Chidawu, who was born in 1954, became the youngest mayor in the history of Harare city in 1984 at the age of 29.
A chartered engineer and entrepreneur, Senator Chidhawu was chairman of African Banking Corporation Zimbabwe, non-executive chairman of Manders Group and founder of Kuchi Group of Companies.
He was also a major shareholder in Bitumen Construction and a founding shareholder and director of Heritage Investment Bank which merged with First Merchant Bank in 1997.
He was appointed Minister of Harare Provincial Affairs in March 2019.

Minister Of State For Harare Province Oliver Chidawu Has Died

ZDF director of public relations, Colonel Overson Mugwisi who succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday was yesterday laid to rest at Glen Forest Memorial Park yesterday, The Sunday Mail reports.
Mugwisi who survived by 4 Children and was declared a liberation War Hero’s burial was attended by Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan province Oliver Chidawu who described Mugwisi as a hard worker:
<blockquote>The ZDF shall forever cherish the late Colonel Mugwisi’s selfless service to the people of Zimbabwe before and after Independence.</blockquote>
Mugwisi was the official spokesperson of the Zimbabwe National Army since 2009.

The recently sworn in Minister of State of the Harare Metropolitan Province, former Harare Mayor Oliver Chidawu claims that land barons are criminals.
He revealed this in an interview with the Herald. Chidawu said:
<blockquote>Land barons is a colloquial term for people who have stolen money from needy people who wanted housing and shelter over their heads.
These are just criminals, the point is what are we going to do with the criminals who have been roaming around cheating people? It is the duty of the local authority to provide housing to the people, it is a national duty for Government. In my time as Harare Mayor, we used to do that in places like Warren Park and Kuwadzana. We serviced the land and properly gave people land. Unfortunately, as things deteriorated, we have ended up with greedy people.</blockquote>
Chidawu also stated that real land barons do not swindle people of their money. He said:
<blockquote>a land baron would be a person who owns land and service it for sale, but these you are calling land barons are criminals.</blockquote>
