South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa will not face an impeachment process after a majority of MPs voted against the adoption of the Phala Phala report.
Only 148 members of parliament voted in favour and 214 voted against, while two MPs abstained from the vote. 
In the end, National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula ruled that the Section 89 process would not proceed.
Earlier, ANC president aspirant Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma was one of only five ANC members of Parliament to vote in favour of proceeding with a full inquiry into the impeachment of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Eliciting heaps of criticism from fellow ANC MPs in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Dlamini Zuma said: “As a disciplined member of the ANC, I vote yes,” <a href="https://www.news24.com/citypress/politics/dlamini-zuma-shocks-voting-yes-for-phala-phala-report-20221213">City Press</a> reported.
The ANC occupies 230 of the 400 seats in the National Assembly.
ANC MPs Tandi Mahambehlala, Supra Mahumapelo, Mosebenzi Zwane and Mervyn Dirks also voted yes.
Ramaphosa is being accused of <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/south-africa-ppsa-speaks-on-allegations-of-violation-of-ethics-code-against-ramaphosa/">misconduct and potentially violating the oath of office</a> after large sums of foreign currency were found hidden at his private game farm. He failed to report <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/south-africa-ramaphosa-says-ive-never-stolen-money-from-anywhere/">the money missing when it was stolen in 2020.</a>

South Africa: Ramaphosa Evades Impeachment As MPs Vote Against Adopting Phala Phala Report

South Africa’s International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor has said she’s confident president Cyril Ramaphosa will still be president in 2023 but warned that Ramaphosa needs to deal with the matter swiftly.
She made the remarks in reaction to the Section 89 report into the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/eff-criticises-gangster-ramaphosa-for-taking-parliament-to-court-over-phala-phala-farm-saga/">Phala Phala farm theft</a> scandal, <a href="https://www.enca.com/news/pandor-confident-ramaphosa-will-still-be-president-next-year">eNCA News</a> reported. She is quoted as saying:

We won’t have a different president in 2023, I think it will remain President Ramaphosa unless something unexpected occurs.
In my own limited analysis, I believe he will remain president in 2023.
On my reaction to report, I think it’s really a matter that President Ramaphosa has to deal with since he is the person that is the subject of the report and he’s acted in terms of the law and the Constitution by following the steps of taking report on review.
One or two colleagues have called… they’re more interested in is South Africa stable, is there a problem, should we anticipate that there will be some kind of conflict emerging which will harm the stability and I’ve assured them, even when te temperature appears very high in South Africa, we remain a stable democracy.

Meanwhile, the ANC has expelled former NEC member Carl Niehaus who is also the spokesperson of the disbanded MKMVA.
Niehaus was found guilty of six counts of misconduct for contravening the ANC constitution, according to <a href="https://www.enca.com/news/anc-expels-carl-niehaus">eNCA</a> News.
Charges against Niehaus included comments about the law being used to fight ANC factional battles.
The party’s National Disciplinary Committee found that Niehaus, like all other members of the ANC, was bound by the code of conduct of the organisation.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), an opposition party in South Africa, has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa for taking Parliament to court over the Phala Phala Farm saga findings saying it is a tactic by a “gangster” accustomed to using the judiciary to cover corruption. Ramaphosa’s move was after a parliamentary report accused him of <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/south-africa-ppsa-speaks-on-allegations-of-violation-of-ethics-code-against-ramaphosa/">misconduct and potentially violating the oath of office</a> after large sums of foreign currency were found hidden at his private game farm. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is disgusted and appalled by the decision of the rogue President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, to take Parliament to court in order to review the findings of the Section 89 Independent Panel.
The decision to take his own Parliament to court in order to prevent it from exercising its duty of oversight and accountability, is a confirmation of Ramaphosa’s guilt and arrogance in the face of damning findings of his violation of the Constitution of South Africa.
If Ramaphosa is truly innocent, he would not be threatened by a process to examine whether he has committed ernes on Phala Phala Farm. because it is this very impeachment process which will investigate the matter and exonerate him if he is innocent.
The question all South Africans should ask themselves is why is Ramaphosa reluctant to allow an open and transparent process to proceed. and allow Parliament to conduct its work and practice its duties as enshrined in the Constitution” Why is Ramaphosa and the ANC so determined to stall the progress of investigating the crimes which happened at and are related to Phala Phala Farm?
The money laundering President of South Africa has confirmed that he has no regard for the Constitution and wit fight tooth and nail to prevent transparency and accountability. His actions are those of a guilty man, who has no respect for the people of South Africa and will go to great lengths to cover up his criminality.
Ramaphosa has now turned to his ally and confidant in the Constitutional Court. Raymond tondo to reverse the credible, sound and concise findings of the Section 89 Independent Panel. The fact that Ramaphosa has not even applied for the review on an urgent basis shows that his sole Interest is to cast doubt over the report and delay its processing by Parliament until he has emerged in the conference of the ANC. Ramaphosa so disrespects the political parties in Parliament that he has not even cited them as interested parties in his application. This is despite knowing that it is the norm and that parties have released many statements on the issue in the past few days in particular the EFF and UDM which even made submissions to the panel.
It is a shallow and petty tactic by a gangster who has become accustomed to using the judiciary to hide his corruption.
The EFF re-affirms its support of the findings of the Independent Panel and will defend the report in public and in the courts. Ramaphosa’s continued use of the courts to hide his corrupt activity. namely with regards to the CR17 Bank Statements and now the Phala Phala Report must not be tolerated. Ramaphosa must and will be impeached for his grave violation of our constitution. and no amount of delay tactics will assist him.

The National Executive Committee of South Africa’s governing ANC party <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/anc-leadership-meets-over-president-ramaphosas-future/">met this Monday to consider the future of President Cyril Ramaphosa.</a>
This was after a parliamentary report accused Ramaphosa of <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/south-africa-ppsa-speaks-on-allegations-of-violation-of-ethics-code-against-ramaphosa/">misconduct and potentially violating the oath of office.</a>
Public Protector of South Africa’s inquiry relates to findings that large sums of foreign currency were hidden at Ramaphosa’s private game farm and he failed to report <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/south-africa-ramaphosa-says-ive-never-stolen-money-from-anywhere/">the money missing when it was stolen in 2020.</a>
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ANC NEC said Ramaphosa attended the meeting and was allowed to recuse himself. Reads the statement:

A close friend of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, James Motlatsi, said that if the president resigns, South Africa will turn into Colombia or into Zimbabwe.
Colombia is a South American country that experienced a civil war for decades and has a reputation as an unsafe place to visit.
Motlatsi on Friday told top South African presenter, Clement Manyatela, that Ramaphosa should not be told to resign by criminals, in reference to the President’s opponents within the ruling ANC. Tweeted Manyatela:

ANC national spokesperson Pule Mabe on Friday called on Motlatsi to withdraw his remarks that Ramaphosa can’t be told by criminals to leave. Said, Mabe:

While the ANC holds no right or authority to dictate personal relations, it is insensitive and rather disappointing that someone of his stature can make such reckless insinuations at a time when the movement and the country are faced with a dilemma emanating from the parliamentary Section 89 report on the Phala Phala saga.
… We call on Mr. Motlatsi, who is also a veteran activist, to consider withdrawing his unfortunate divisive remarks which are harmful and hurting to our movement. The same goes for others who may be tempted to engage in such a public spat.

Ramaphosa is under pressure following the release of the report by the independent panel, which found preliminary evidence that he violated his oath of office in relation to the theft of US$580 000 (R10 million) from his game farm, Phala Phala, in Limpopo.

"Ramaphosa's Resignation Will Turn South Africa Into Zimbabwe"

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa does not lack confidence in his own caucus to shield him from having to face an impeachment inquiry, presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya has said.
An independent panel appointed by the Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula found preliminary evidence that Ramaphosa violated his oath of office.
In June, it emerged that an estimated US$4 million in cash was stolen from Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala game farm in 2020.
The theft raised questions about how Ramaphosa acquired the money and whether he declared it.
Multiple media reports in South Africa on Thursday suggested that Ramaphosa was getting ready to resign in the wake of the scathing independent judicial report but Magwenya has downplayed the claims.
He said Ramaphosa was consulting widely on his options, and not for personal benefit, but in the best interest of the country. Said Magwenya:

So it’s not about whether he’s panicking. He’s not panicking that I can assure you. It’s not about that he lacks confidence in his own caucus.
But it’s about appropriately processing reports, and getting the benefit of different views – views that are being expressed in the interest of the country.

The recommendations of the Section 89 panel report on the Phala Phala burglary are not binding on the National Assembly.
This means the ANC has the numbers to stop the impeachment process from going any further, <a href="https://ewn.co.za/2022/12/02/ramaphosa-confident-in-his-caucus-to-evade-impeachment-says-spokesperson">reported Eyewitness News</a>.
ANC Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina said the caucus will thoroughly study the report before adopting a position. Said Majodina:

The report will be debated in Parliament and voted on next Tuesday.

Ramaphosa Confident In Caucus To Evade Impeachment, Says Spokesperson

South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, is believed to be getting ready to resign when he addresses the nation on Thursday night, <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/president-cyril-ramaphosa-expected-to-resign-in-wake-of-phala-phala-farmgate-scandal-970879f9-c510-4f85-bbc5-e14a884f2ee5">reported IOL</a>.
Ramaphosa reportedly informed his Cabinet it would be the last time he would be meeting with them.
This comes after an independent panel appointed by the Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula found preliminary evidence that he violated his oath of office.

His deputy, David Mabuza also cancelled his appearance before the South African National Council to mark World Aids Day.
According to <a href="https://ewn.co.za/0001/01/01/anc-at-a-crossroads-over-ramaphosa-s-fate-after-phala-phala-findings">Eyewitness News</a>, Ramaphosa’s supporters within the ANC held a late-night meeting – which only ended in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The meeting reportedly touched on considerations including taking the parliamentary report on review, Ramaphosa possibly stepping down as head of state but remaining ANC president, and bringing in former president Motlanthe back as head of state.
Eyewitness News also reported two ANC insiders as saying former president Kgalema Motlanthe may be brought in to take the reigns of government.

South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, Expected To Resign | Report

South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa could face impeachment after an independent panel appointed by the Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula found preliminary evidence that he violated his oath of office.
Parliament will examine the report, which was submitted on Wednesday, 30 November 2022, and decide whether to push ahead with impeachment proceedings next week. The report says:

In all the circumstances, we think that the evidence presented to the Panel, prima facie, establishes that the president may be guilty of a serious violation of certain sections of the constitution.
</blockquote>
However, Ramaphosa immediately denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crimes.
A statement issued by the South African presidency on Wednesday reads in part:

I categorically deny that I have violated this oath in any way, and I similarly deny that I am guilty of any of the allegations made against me.

On Thursday, Ramaphosa delayed an appearance in parliament to answer questions, requesting time to consider the report.
