President Emmerson Mnangagwa approached Chamisa for a deal to postpone elections and hand over power to him after 2 years, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ibbo_Mandaza/">Ibbo Mandaza</a> has claimed in an interview.
Mandaza said that a reliable informant told him Mnangagwa feared the influence of the military and FAZ in the elections. Mandaza also said he thinks ED feared his un-electability.

And he sent out emissaries to Chamisa in March around there. To say “Let’s postpone the elections for 2 years. Let’s have a Government of National Unity, and in 2 years I handover. I am going.
I asked my informant who were the emissaries and he named them. People in Emmerson’s cabinet. The inner core. 
I went further, I wanted to know, what was the rationale behind the argument for this postponement GNU. And the response was that the military were too involved in  elections…
I understood that the military meant Chiwenga. But later on I realised FAZ… Many of Emmerson’s inner core lost in the primaries because of FAZ.

Video: ED Asked Chamisa For Deal To Postpone Elections, Offered 2-Year GNU & Power Handover, Feared Military and FAZ Influence - Ibbo Mandaza

Journalists from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alpha_Media_Holdings/">Alpha Media Holdings (AMH)</a>, the largest privately owned media company in Zimbabwe, have declared incapacitation due to the erosion of their salaries by inflation, according to a statement from the AMH Zimbabwe Union of Journalists branch. 
The employees said they are struggling to afford basic expenses, including rent, transportation and school fees. The workers have requested that salaries be pegged in US dollars or equivalent indexed to the official bank rate. They said:

…our salaries have been heavily eroded by the ever-rising inflation, yet we are expected to continue producing content for the three publications and digital platforms. That the salaries have been heavily eroded, we are finding it extremely difficult to afford to put decent meals on our tables, clothe ourselves and our families, pay for our rentals, and worse even come to work daily.
We are requesting that salaries be pegged in United States Dollars or equivalent on our contracts indexed to the official bank rate.

The workers also expressed concern about short staffing, which has led to long working hours and fatigue. They proposed that management increase staff in the newsroom, as one journalist is currently writing across all three publications, which is against their contracts.
AMH becomes the second media house to declare incapacitation, following <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimpapers/">Zimbabwe Newspapers Group (ZimPapers)</a> in Bulawayo. AMH publishes the NewsDay, The Standard and The Zimbabwe Independent newspapers.
AMH Editor-in-Chief Kolwani Nyathi told the Mirror that he is not allowed to comment on policy issues saying the right person to comment is the Human Resources Manager, Livison Nyathi, who referred questions to the group’s CEO, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Trevor_Ncube/">Trevor Ncube.</a>

Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kindness_Paradza/">Kindness Paradza</a> urged media houses to pay their employees reasonable salaries and review journalists’ salaries to stop them from taking bribes. He said:

As Government, we urge media houses to pay their workers reasonable wages in tandem with the economic situation. We also encourage them to review journalists’ salaries so that they desist from getting bribes.

At a recent workshop, Vincent Kahiya, a veteran journalist and former CEO of Alpha Media, warned that several media houses could collapse by September due to a 75% drop in advertising.

Alpha Media Holdings Journalists Declare Incapacitation, Demand Salaries In US$

State security officers Monday chased out seven journalists from State House where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was swearing in <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-sets-commission-to-investigate-zacc-spokesperson/">a three-member tribunal</a> to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zacc-spokesperson-faces-expulsion-over-corruption-allegations/">investigate the removal from office</a> of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson John Makamure.
NewsDay chief reporter Taurai Mangudhla, photographer Shepherd Tozvireva, Heart and Soul head of current affairs and news Blessed Mhlanga and reporters Chengeto Chidi, Zibusiso Ncube and Atrishya Gondo were booted out by one of the security personnel without giving reasons.
Daily News reporter Katty Nyoni was also ejected.
This happened soon after the journalists had gone through the routine security clearance process plus COVID-19 tests at the State House clinic, according to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200002134/amh-journos-kicked-out-of-state-house-function">NewsDay</a>.
Meanwhile, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere has criticised the ejection of journalists from a public event. She said:

What kind of “government” chases journalists away from a national event paid for by taxpayers? It’s unconstitutional. You can’t only allow journalists you like and control. Media freedom is impossible under this regime. We need new leaders.

AMH is owned by Trevor Ncube, a former member of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Presidential_Advisory_Council_2019">Presidential Advisory Council (PAC).</a> He <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/watch-zimbabwe-worse-under-mnangagwa-than-during-mugabe-era-trevor-ncube/">left PAC early this year</a> citing a lot of issues bordering on President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Mnangagwa</a>‘s failure to transform the country’s fortunes. 
This ejection of the reporters comes amid calls for the implementation of media reforms to ensure the freedom of journalists and media houses.

Seven Journalists Chased Out Of State House

Alpha Media Holdings chairman and former member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC), Trevor Ncube says CCC president Nelson Chamisa has no capacity to lead Zimbabwe out of its current economic challenges.
In his article published by NewsDay on 12 April 2022, Ncube said Chamisa has good oratory skills at political rallies but doesn’t have what it takes to make tough decisions to navigate the country out of the economic quagmire. Wrote Ncube:

The Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) claims to have the answers to all that afflicts Zimbabwe.
As things stand, I am far from persuaded that Chamisa has what it takes to dig the country out of the ZANU PF-created morass.
I, too, sense the palpable excitement for the possibility of something new and the desperate desire for change after 42 years of authoritarian rule that has blighted the country’s fortunes.
Oratory is the skill required at rallies while governing requires a different skillset and the courage to make decisions to administer tough love to the adoring masses.
There is no doubt that Zimbabwe is ripe for change. Unless we are clear about the change we want, then anything that looks like a change will suffice. Have we waited this long to shortchange ourselves?
The country has been ready and on the cusp of change for a while now. Brute force, intimidation and daylight electoral robbery have subjugated the majority to the whims of narrow and selfish political, military and economic interests.
To many Zimbabweans, particularly the youth, Chamisa holds the key to the escape door out of years of the ZANU PF dictatorship.
He has captured the mood and his speeches at rallies, while underwhelming on substance, have connected with many, especially the young.
There is a personality cult that says he can do or say no wrong. Any criticism is seen as sacrilege at worst and a reckless attempt to derail the people’s hopes and march towards the new.
Criticising Chamisa or pointing to his shortcomings is often equated to supporting ZANU PF.

Responding to Ncube, Alex Magaisa, a former advisor to the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, questioned his political judgement, saying his previous political projects failed. <a href="https://twitter.com/Wamagaisa/status/1513804312878723072">Wrote Magaisa on Twitter:</a>

Secondly, you pledge a holy petition that Chamisa “attracts men &amp; women who are far better than him to add content, vision and strategy to his ambitions”, an indirect claim that he has none. Is that how lowly you regard accomplished peers like Welshman Ncube &amp; Tendai Biti?
Who might these men and women be that you have in mind so that we can also assess their qualities and your judgment?
When you joined PAC were you satisfied that Mnangagwa had men and women of the calibre that you suggest? If so who were they and why did they fail?
You have joined Mssrs [Simba] Makoni, [Nkosana] Moyo and Mnangagwa in their political projects and it’s been a hat-trick of failures, walking out on all 3.
On that record, do you think you’ve just been unlucky to be on the wrong side of chance or does it say something about your political judgment?

In 2018, Ncube tweeted that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had made an offer to Chamisa that he said the opposition leader couldn’t reject.
He, however, didn’t disclose the nature of the offer or whether it was indeed made to Chamisa or not.

Chamisa Doesn't Have What It Takes To Lead Zimbabwe, Says Trevor Ncube

Zimbabwean entrepreneur and media mogul Trevor Ncube says Zimbabwe can experience the same transition as recently occurred in Zambia when the leader of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND), Hakainde Hichilema, won the presidential election overwhelmingly.
Hichilema defied the odds by beating the incumbent, Edgar Lungu, in the 12 August 2021 elections despite the alleged use of state institutions including the police to disrupt his party’s political activities.
Speaking during an interview with BizNews founder Alec Hogg in Drakensberg, South Africa, Ncube urged the opposition to exercise patience. Ncube said:

It is possible. The underlying thing there is patience. HH has been very patient, firstly. Point number two, he is a chartered accountant. He has a track record.
He has run a successful business. How can you get somebody who has never run a tuck shop to run a country?
We underrate the importance of experience, the importance of exposure, the importance of the right values in the person who says they want to raise their hand to lead.
What HH has done in the past has infused in him the experience and the worldview that will help him. Look at the people who he has appointed.
He is appointing professional people, Zambians who have got a track record. My sense is that he will get it right.
If the forces of evil don’t come in and push him, Zambia could be a place to look forward to.

Hichilema is reportedly close to Nelson Chamisa, the leader of Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
In the run-up to the 26 March by-elections, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) banned several CCC rallies and imposed stringent restrictions on those that were given the greenlight.

What Happened In Zambia Can Also Happen In Zimbabwe - Ncube

Alpha Media Holdings chairperson, Trevor Ncube, has said he is being attacked by the ruling ZANU PF and the opposition in the country following his announcement that he was pulling out of the Presidential Advisory Committee (PAC).
The PAC, formed in 2019, has been advising President Emmerson Mnangagwa on various fronts including business, religion, Agriculture and International Relations.
His decision to step down as Mnangagwa’s advisor has attracted criticism from various quarters. Ncube said this Tuesday:

On Monday, TheNewsHawks, a local publication, argued that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/trevor-ncube-prostituted-journalism-for-money-full-thread/">Ncube had compromised his journalism ethics for money</a> by working with Mnangagwa.
Ncube argued that he agreed to work with Mnangagwa, one of the longest-serving lieutenants of the late founding leader of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe because he thought the former Defence Minister was sincere about implementing reforms.
Ncube says he has been disillusioned as Mnangagwa has come out worse than his predecessor.

Others said Ncube was not being attacked but people are just offering varying opinions.
Those who are in his corner say there is nothing wrong in believing that Mnangagwa was genuinely intending to transform Zimbabwe’s fortunes.
They say even Nelson Chamisa, leader of opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and the late Morgan Tsvangirai, a former Prime Minister and founding leader of opposition MDC, as well as many other opposition leaders, endorsed Mnangagwa in 2017.

Zanu-PF Is Attacking Me The Opposition Is Attacking Me - Trevor Ncube

The NewsHawks say Trevor Ncube, the chairman of Alpha Media Holdings, “prostituted journalism for money” by supporting then-vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa when he moved to topple his former boss, Robert Gabriel Mugabe. In a Twitter thread, seen by Pindula News, TheNewsHawks track Ncube’s journey in the Media to date. This is happening as Ncube has just announced that he is quitting the Presidential Advisory Council post which he held since 209. We present the full thread below:

When Zimbabwean publisher Trevor Ncube lost control of South Africa’s investigative newspaper, M&amp;G, in 2017 to return home, he tried to leverage his media group, Alpha Media Holdings, to exert insidious influence inside President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime, but it did not work.
Ncube’s story is particularly of huge public interest given that he had doggedly fought for media freedom and stood for liberty, democracy and human rights during the late ex-president Robert Mugabe’s era, values that informed and underpinned the Zimbabwean liberation struggle.
Having arrived into journalism in 1989 through the top as Financial Gazette assistant editor with no media and reporting experience, Ncube quickly manoeuvred to become editor of the paper after Geoff Nyarota was dismissed by the publisher Elias Rusike, a Zanu PF member, in 1991.
In 1994, Ncube won editor of the year award with only five years experience in media because he had a good team around him. Usually with five years experience one would still be a reporter, either junior or senior reporter, depending on talent, work ethic and performance.
After some editorial clashes with Rusike, Ncube left the Financial Gazette with his team and went to form the Zimbabwe Independent with him as editor in 1996. The team included Iden Wetherell, Barnabas Thondhlana, Basildon Peta, Sunsleey Chamunorwa and Joram Nyathi, among others.
By his own account, Ncube was a rookie and didn’t even know how to write editorials as an editor as he had no reporting experience. Wetherell then taught him how to write. Being a dynamic man, he fast learnt the ropes and took charge. He ran the paper well until he left in 2002.
In January 2002 the Guardian (UK) sold the M&amp;G operation in SouthAfrica to Ncube. After that Ncube had to relocate to Johannesburg to take over as chairman and chief executive of the paper from the outgoing Govin Reddy. Back home, Wetherell became Zimbabwe Independent editor.
In terms of the deal, Ncube’s company, Newtrust Company Botswana Limited, would acquire a majority share of 87,5% in the M&amp;G’s publishing company MG Media from UK-based Guardian Newspapers Limited. The Guardian would continue to hold a 10% stake in the M&amp;G.
As part of the deal, Ncube would acquire 35% of the M&amp;G Online, the internet publication of the M&amp;G. The other 65% was owned by internet service provider M-Web, then the largest player in the South African dial-up subscriber market.
Commenting on buying the paper with the help of a US investment fund, Ncube then said: 
My company’s long-term vision is to be a regional media player and the M&amp;G with its strong presence in the Southern African region has presented us with an opportunity to set this in motion.
The Mail &amp; Guardian is a quality product that has a proven track record in the democratic transformation taking place in South Africa and in the continent’s rebirth. Indeed, the Mail&amp;Guardian is a giant symbol of press freedom.”
The sale was announced after a two-and-a-half-year search for a new owner as the Guardian wanted to sell not to the highest bidder, but to someone who would safeguard the paper’s editorial independence; a person who would not start prostituting editorial integrity for money.
Bob Phillis from the Guardian Newspapers Limited made that clear: 
We didn’t just sell to the highest bidder. We interviewed about 10 groups of potential buyers, but they didn’t meet the criteria we had set for the continued editorial and financial independence of the M&amp;G.
Guardian Newspapers is proud and privileged to have been able to support the M&amp;G over the years… the money we have put in has been a privilege because the M&amp;G has carried the flag of independent journalism in South Africa like nobody else.
Ncube ran M&amp;G well initially, but then overeached himself in his ambitious online and regional expansion programme in his bid to become an African media mogul. The paper, funded by the New York-based Media Development Investment Fund, started making losses – back to square one.
A month after Mnangagwa’s November 2017 coup, Ncube lost control of the broke M&amp;G and went back home to run the equally struggling Alpha Media Holdings in a deal that involved the New York fund taking a majority stake, while exiting his Zimbabwean operation which he is running now.
Upon arrival back in Harare broke, Ncube quickly tried to gain tight control of his papers to leverage them to offer support to Mnangagwa’s regime and subsequently became an adviser. His new role had clear prospects of financial rewards; it was not mere national service for him.
Prior to his political capture by Mnangagwa, Ncube had already sung loud enough for his supper, while throwing media ethics out the window to support a Zanu PF faction plotting a coup. He worked, tweeted blood and sweat backing the coup, damaging his credibility in the process.
To show support for Mnangagwa, Ncube took his favourite editors to the President’s Office to pledge and demonstrate that he would back the regime to the hilt. They naively took photos and paraded themselves with him. Even at the state-owned Zimpapers, they don’t do it like that.
This triggered a fierce battle for the control of Alpha Media Holdings editorial policy and department: Ncube on one side supported by his acolytes, his mostly incompetent managers and sycophants, who would support anything to keep their jobs and steadfast editors on the other.
Editors and reporters in the newsroom were mainly resisting the Mnangagwa capture even though some of them were already compromised by support for the coup. Due to their resistance, Ncube would sometimes get frustrated and lambast them on Twitter much to the shock of readers.
Journalists were clear the editorial should remain independent and impartial even though some would sometimes in the heat of political battle in a polarised society take sides with Zanu PF factions and politics which had become a national issue as Mugabe faced a tragic endgame.
After throwing everything but the kitchen sink in support of Mnangagwa, Ncube, claiming he did it because he wanted to offer public service, push reform and resolve Gukurahundi, decided to go for the jugular: Remove the editor-in-chief and use Mugabeist divide-and-rule tactics.
In so doing Ncube did a lot of damage to his reputation and the credibility of newspapers, as well as the media and journalism in general. He did what Mahatma Ghandi warned against a long time ago: Prostituting journalism for money and/or influence by joining the gravy train.
Yet in the end, as Ncube has now admitted, his mission to capture media in service of a coup-minted dictatorship and repression was a disastrous failure. He didn’t get the TV and radio licences that he badly wanted or money, but his reputation and credibility are left in tatters.
By joining the Mnangagwa regime, it was clear Ncube didn’t just want to serve Zimbabwe he now naively romanticises, but to revive his financial fortunes, get TV and radio licences, become a media mogul and exert political influence to protect his interests Rupert Murdock-style.
But as it now turns out it didn’t end well; it all ended in tears for Ncube. This is an instructive lesson for all democracy/freedom advocates and activists out there: Don’t abandon the struggle or good cause for opportunistic and short-term benefits as Bishop Abel Muzorewa did.

"Trevor Ncube Prostituted Journalism For Money," - FULL THREAD

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Trevor_Ncube">Trevor Ncube,</a> the chairman of Alpha Media Holdings, last week announced that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/watch-zimbabwe-worse-under-mnangagwa-than-during-mugabe-era-trevor-ncube/">he was quitting</a> the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Presidential_Advisory_Council_2019">Presidential Advisory Council (PAC)</a> citing a lot of issues bordering on President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>‘s failure to transform the country’s fortunes. 
The PAC was formed in 2019 to advise the president on various matters including religion, and business. Some of the PAC members have since left. We present below a list of things that were said by Ncube as he quit PAC:

1). Why he gave Mnangagwa a chance: He said Mnangagwa played a role in the massacre of 20 000 people in Matabeleland. When he joined PAC, he thought the president was willing to “make amends” for the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gukurahundi">Gukurahundi</a> which has remained a topical one since the 1980s. 
2). 2017 coup: The people who toppled Mugabe in a 2017 coup did not do it to advance the national interest, but to champion their personal interests.
3). Mnangagwa worse than Mugabe: He says Mnangagwa is worse than his predecessor, the late former president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>. He said he believed Mnangagwa deserved a chance and after being Mugabe’s top lieutenant for years, he had learnt things that should be made right. Ncube explained that Mnangagwa has mutilated the constitution, making the judiciary biased for him. 
4). Business opportunities: He also speaks of what he says are business opportunities in Zimbabwe.
i). Cannabis industry:, laws are being fine-tuned to allow investors to come and invest, licences will cost US$57.
ii). Housing Infrastructure: There is also building boom sponsored by diaspora remmittances.
iii). Agriculture: Cotton the second-largest crop. Soya beans – we-re producing about 30 per cent of our national requirement. The return is 200 per cent. Tobacco – the golden leaf, which contributes 11 per cent . He noted that one of the issues affecting the Agriculture sector is that the Southern African country machineray is archaic. Irrigation equipment has not been renewed since the end of the Universal Declaration of Independence (UDI).
iv). Tourism: Victoria Falls, Kariba etc have the potential to contribute significantly to the GDP. The collapsed transport system is hindering the full-growth of the industry.
v). Mining: Zimbabwe is a mining country has over 40 occurances of minerals – diamond, platnum, gold, lithium (largest deposit of lithium on the African continent), Oil and gas being explored in Muzarabani.
vi) National Infrastructure: National infrastructure has not been repaired for years. Road networks declared a national disaster. It’s a crisis and also an oportunity for businesses.
5). Zimbabwe a dual economy: Zimbabwe’s economy is now being driven by the informaal sector while the formal sector is assuming a retreating role. Ncube added that nobody has confidence in the local currency, the Zimbabwe Dollar. The government is saying we are moving away from dollarisation but reality on the ground shows that the country is actually dollarisation. He accuses Finance and Economic Development Minister, Mthuli Ncube of lying essentially.
6). No confidence in CCC: Ncube also said “I have no confidence in the MDC now caled something else” in apparent refence to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), a party led by Nelson Chamisa. He says NO one seems to have the capacity to turn around the country’s fortunes. 
7). ZANU PF Influence: ZANU PF way of doing things (Corruption, violence) is being implemented in all other political parties and by individuals in personal life.

LISTICLE: Things Said By Trevor Ncube As He Quits Mnangagwa's PAC

Businessman Trevor Ncube says Zimbabwe has regressed in many aspects since President Emmerson Mnangagwa took office on the back of the November 2017 military coup that overthrew the then president Robert Mugabe.
Speaking on the final day of the BizNews Conference in the Drakensberg, South Africa, about whether Zimbabwe presents an opportunity for investors or is currently a basket case, Ncube said Zimbabwe is gravitating towards the latter.
He accused the Mnangagwa administration of State capture which has weakened State institutions such as the police and judiciary, making them serve the interests of the elite.

Alpha Media Holdings chairman Trevor Ncube has publicly admitted that he was naive and wrong to join the “give him a chance brigade” when President Emmerson Mnangagwa became the country’s leader on the back of the November 2017 military coup.
Ncube said he resigned from the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) after realising that the coup project won’t end well. He said:

I was one of those people who stood up and said give Emmerson Mnangagwa a chance and how wrong I was! But why did I say that?
I said that because this man has sat in the same room with Robert Mugabe, he has seen what Robert Mugabe did in the country.
Maybe, he is really interested in turning things around… This man played a role as far as Gukurahundi is concerned, the massacre of over 20 000 people in Matabeleland.
Maybe, it’s time for him to make amends for that. So I was generous in my spirit as a God-fearing man that this man was about to do a turnaround. Again was I disappointed!
I was actually approached and I agreed to serve in the presidential advisory council, so I sat at close range with the President advising him on a number of issues but I have since retired, stepped down because I can see this thing is not going to end well.
The lesson that we have gotten, all of us, is that anyone who embarks on a coup does not usually do so because they want to promote democracy, widen economic prosperity and so forth.
The people that launched the coup in Zimbabwe were interested in protecting their small personal interests, ethnic interests, business interests and economic interests.

Trevor Ncube Quits Presidential Advisory Council, Says Coup Project Won't End Well

Trevor Ncube’s mother has succumbed to COVID-19 just days after the deadly virus also claimed his father.
The Alpha Media Holdings chairperson announced the sad news this afternoon saying she was 79 years old. He said:
<blockquote>My 79-year-old mother has passed away due to COVID-19. She has joined Dad and gone to be with the Lord. There is no word for what we are going through. I am praying for many Zimbabweans who are in similar circumstances and worse. Keep the faith.</blockquote>
On the 10th of this month, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/10/trevor-ncubes-father-has-succumbed-to-covid-19/">Ncube announced the passing of his father who was 86 years old.</a>
In a statement posted on Twitter, Trevor Ncube said:
<blockquote>_My 86 year old father, friend and hero succumbed to Covid19 in Bulawayo early this morning. A sweet, compassionate and witty man who will be sorely missed._</blockquote>
This is happening as Zimbabwe is experiencing a coronavirus resurgence that is attributed to the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus that was first detected in India.
As of 13 July 2021, the country’s death toll had risen to 2 274 since March 2020 when the first COVID-19 death was recorded.

Popular musician Winky D (real name Wallace Chikumuriko) while in conversation with Trevor Ncube shed light on why he is not so keen to do international collabos as he said many factors including costs were at play. Asked several times why he doesn’t do collaborations with international artists Winky D responded:
<blockquote>Let me get on that one. I think that’s where the people’s worries are on the international collabos. Like I mentioned earlier on, we want to look at ourselves through other people’s spectacles. That is one challenge we have as a people. You’re not good enough until you do something with a Burna Boy or a Whizkid. Fair and fine. It’s good for the growth of the industry, to collaborate and stuff.
But what are the terms of the collaboration? We are coming in as underdogs. For instance, I want to do a collaboration with artist A and I’m told US $20,000 for the collaboration alone. And I’m told another $15,000 to $20,000 for the video. And then I’m told maybe another $5,000 for marketing the same product.
So it’s costly. I wouldn’t want to lie. And I’m not saying these figures off my head. We have explored that avenue and we sat down as a team and we said, “Gentlemen, yes, are we going to do things along business lines or it’s now for the hype. We have to be careful because we may create a pyramid for ourselves, and when it falls you know how it falls.
We are in a situation whereby most of the people when they are approached for collaborations, all they see in their eyes is the money. They’re not really worried about the product that you’re going to be making. All they want is money.
But if I have $50,000, aewa unotondoiona ndakubudawo ndaakutsvaga stand kana kamba kangu ndoziva kuti aewa.
I’m not saying I don’t want to invest in my career. I’d love to invest in my career whilst earning something that can sustain myself on an international level as they call it. And I should be able to make the finances comfortably here in Zimbabwe. I should not be straining myself. For instance, if it takes me 10 or 15 shows to raise money for the collaboration alone. We’re not yet talking about the video or the marketing of the song. Then to me really it doesn’t make financial sense. The business side of it will be crumbling. So you’ll be moving more with the hype and it’s not sustainable.
That’s how I see with the enquiries we’ve been doing over the years. So it’s not like we don’t want to be on those stages. We want but the requirement itself is pulling us back.</blockquote>

USA Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols has said that it is essential for Zimbabwe to implement reforms as they are key to the transformation of the country. He spoke of economic,  media, security sector and electoral reforms as some of the critical reforms the country needs to quickly implement. He also said that a national dialogue had the potential to unlock solutions to the socio-economic and political crises grounding the country.
